Abe-no-SeimeiWP (安倍晴明WP?) is an Onmyouji in the Heian periodWP related to the legends of Tamamo-no-Mae and Shuten-douji.
Profile
Background
Ashiya Douman, said to be Seimei's greatest enemy, once tried to overthrow the city's government with Fujiwara no AkimitsuWP.[2] Author Murasaki Shikibu was one of Seimei's disciples in Onmyodo Magecraft.[3]
According to Katou Danzou, Abe-no-Seimei was believed to have passed away in the 2nd year of Katou (1006 AD).[4] However, as shown in the Heian-kyō Singularity, he was still alive in 1008 AD.
Seimei was involved in the case of the Oni gathered on Mount Ooe under the control of Ibaraki-douji, though Shuten-douji was given more attention as the more powerful being. With the disappearances of men and princesses from the imperial capital, Seimei determined Shuten-douji to be the culprit through Divination. Minamoto-no-Raikou and her Four Heavenly Kings were later sent to subjugate them, resulting in the death of Shuten-douji and escape of Ibaraki-douji.[5]
Seimei was the one who exposed Emperor Toba's court lady Tamamo-no-Mae for her true identity as a wicked fox spirit. Tamamo states that Seimei caused a lot of trouble for both her and Sakata Kintoki when they were alive.[6]
Abe-no-Seimei's house was located in eastern KyoWP, around the Ogimachi district.[7]
He is the ancient founder of onmyouji.[8] Seimei was the greatest and most powerful sorcerer of his time and administrator of the Bureau of Onmyou.[9]
The Genji engineers who assembled Minamoto-no-Tametomo were a highly skilled group of craftsmen, gathered by Abe no Seimei. Seimei was an outstanding man, skilled in not only onmyoudou, but also occult arts, the same arts that form the basis of Kashin Koji karakuri.[10]
Appearance
According to Sakata Kintoki, Abe-no-Seimei looks young despite being an old man. He explains that there have been rumors for a long time that he is the second or even the third to bear the name and it wouldn't surprise him if the title got passed down through generations. Sherlock Holmes reminds Kintoki of him.[4]
His allies and his enemies found him to be rather off-putting.
Personality
He’s boastful of his abilities, not unlike the Caster he’s historically compared to.[citation needed]
Minamoto-no-Raikou has no comments on the topic of Seimei, Tamamo, or Douman.[5] Ibaraki-douji vehemently hates him.[5] Shuten-douji claims that she cannot help but laugh when asked about him.[5] Kiichi Hougen laughs incontrollably about him.[11] Taigong Wang describes that he can’t get a good read on him and says he plays dirty. [12]
Role
Fate/Grand Order
The Stage of Carnage: Shimousa
Ashiya Douman falsely claims his True Name to be Abe-no-Seimei.[2]
Naraka Mandala: Heian-kyō
He doesn't appear directly, but is able to write in the air from long distances. He contacted Fujiwara-no-Kaoruko not long before Ashiya Douman's plot is revealed to Fujiwara-no-Michinaga, and decides to halt the Imperial Holy Grail War. He informs that he is able to hear all conversations inside the Bounded Field, which is the entiriety of Kyō, and has listened to it all. He informs that Limbo is the culprit behind the sudden appearance of the Subspecies Fantasy Tree. Correcting himself that it was a collaborative work by both living Ashiya Douman and Limbo, fueled by his complex towards Abe-no-Seimei.
He informs that Limbo went ahead and summoned the Tree before the seven Casters were defeated and plans to proceed anyway. He warns the group about the Saisetsu and Hyoubi summoned by Limbo, telling them that both must be kept away from the Tree, but not dead since the Tree could consume their souls and that would help Limbo.
Seimei tells them that Kaoruko will help them with 8 talismans in order to seal them before crushing their Spirit Cores to make them not be absorbed by the Tree.[13][14]
Summer 2021: Chaldea Summer Adventure
Seimei is implied to be the true identity of "Pirate C", a friendly pirate who recurs throughout the story. Pirate C is revealed at the end to be a Magus with a lot of knowledge about Japan who has been helping Chaldea to thwart Douman's plans from behind the scenes.[15]
Fate/Samurai Remnant
With his ability to divine the future, Seimei learned about the Holy Grail War. The information he wrote down about it was passed down his family until his descendant Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro used it to create the Waxing Moon Ritual.[16]
Abilities
Abe-no-Seimei is regarded as the strongest and most famous Onmyouji of the Heian period. Even Katou Danzou heard his name revered during the Age of War some hundreds of years after his time.[7] Due to this, no Onmyouji is believed to have ever surpassed him.[7][13] He is supposed to be fairly well known in the Caster community. He is described as a legend that stands at the highest rank of Astrologers and a master of yin and yang techniques. It is even said that he knew secret Spells that could bring the dead back to life. It is also believed that a man with that True Name defeated the white-faced nine-tailed fox, one of the three great monsters that threatened all of Japan. Some stories describe him as a superhuman born to a fox, who went on to live an exceptionally long life. For all these reasons, Sherlock Holmes believes that it makes sense that he would leave his mark on Humanity as a Heroic Spirit.[17]
Magecraft
Abe-no-Seimei has displayed the following uses of Magecraft:
- Heian-kyō's Bounded Field: During 1008 AD, all of Kyo was protected by a Bounded Field created by Abe-no-Seimei to fend off invasions from powerful monsters. The field was formed by a layered barrier that reacted to the quantity of Mystics or possibly Magical Energy levels. The stronger the threat, the further away from the Suzaku GateWP the Bounded Field would keep them when they materialize. During the Heian-kyō Singularity, the first two Hasshoujin appeared inside RashomonWP. Then, Saikyou Taira-no-Kagekiyo and Saiha Kugamimi-no-Mikasa showed up across from the Kamogawa at the end of GojouWP.[14] In Taisai Ibuki-douji's case, she was sent to Mt. Ooe,[14] 100km northwest from Heian-kyo.[18] Katou Danzou suspects that this Spell could easily surpass the power of relics from even the strongest ascetics. Alternatively, she speculates that it might use ashes from the Buddha, or something similar.[14] The Bounded Field covering the city also worked as an enormous monitoring device that allowed Seimei to know what took place inside it better than he knew how clean his own house was. He could keep track of not just every event, but all conversations as well. Although this ability reminded Ritsuka Fujimaru of Lostbelt Zeus, Seimei claims that he is not that good.[13]
- Mystic Eyes: Seimei claims he has Mystic Eyes capable of looking into the future. Thanks to this, he is fully knowledgeable of modern expressions which he used in everyday language as early as 1008 AD.[13]
- Taizan talismans: Abe-no-Seimei was able to create Onmyoudou talismans capable of temporarily sealing away the Souls of the Hasshoujin after their Spiritual Cores were shattered, preventing the Holy Grail in the Fantasy Tree Naraka Mandala from absorbing them.[13]
- Long-Range Communication Spell: Abe-no-Seimei can project text on the air as a sort of written message. Medea Lily states that it is very different from telepathy and suspects that it is woven with a translation Spell as well.[13]
- Taizan Commentary Festival: One technique Seimei taught to Murasaki Shikibu, similarly named but unrelated to the Lord Taizan Ceremony (泰山府君祭, Taizan Fukun no Sai?), described by her as "like the embodiment of Lord Seimei’s desire to cause mischief has been materialized." It creates an invisible commentator that, unable to lie, "can target your heart and soul to give terrible wounds."[3]
