ScáthachWP-SkaðiWP (Scáthach-Skadi) (スカサハWP=スカディWP, Sukasaha Sukadi?), Class Name Caster (キャスター, Kyasutā?), is a Caster-class Servant appearing in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Identity
Scáthach-Skadi was a fusion of Skadi and Scáthach brought about by Odin in the Norse Lostbelt during Ragnarok, before he died while sealing Surtr.[2]
A Servant originating from the Scandinavian Lostbelt. A "completely different person" compared to the Scáthach from the common history of man, recognized as the only god in the Lostbelt, whose nature is closer to being a queen.[1]
Scáthach and Skadi are not perfectly equal in existences, but they mutually influence each other and the term "mixed up" is used. She, who, existed in the Lostbelt as "Scáthach-Skaði", has a particularly high mixing rate with Skaði, hence she has many attributes of the Bride of Gods.[1]
Skaði (Skadi)
The Nordic Jötun who originated from the Celtic hero Scáthach, the mountain goddess───many of Skaði's characteristics are revealed. This side of Skadi should rather be expressed as "the Skadi with some of Scáthach's nature" than dark Scáthach.[1]
Skadi's name derives from Old Norse and means "one who scars". According to Poetic EddaWP's "Sayings of GrímnirWP", she was the daughter of "the Abominable Jötun Þjazi", and lived in the old palace in Realm of Þrymheimr along with her father. After being married to the Nordic Gods, she was named "the Beautiful Bride of the Gods". Skadi is also called Öndurguð (Ski God) as well as Öndurdís (Ski Goddess). She was a master of hunting in the mountains and was also told to be a master of skiing.[1]
According to the Norwegian manuscript "HeimskringlaWP", Skadi had divorced with the Vanir Njörðr and remarried with Odin. Although she is unmarried in the World of Fate/Grand Order, it should be noted to the degree that it would be deeply engraved in posterity.[1]
Appearance
Scáthach-Skadi has red eyes, with a face framed by long, dark purple hair lengthening down her back. A small, ornamental headpiece adorns her forehead, and she wears a flowing gown in shades of purple and white. The dress has fur accents on the shoulders and around the upper chest area, and sleeves that are long and bell-shaped, flaring out at the wrists. She also wears fitted gloves that extend to her upper arms, blending in the sleeves. The lower half of her gown is designed with slits.
Compared to the martial-inclined Scáthach, Skadi has more body fat that makes a certain part of her larger.[3]

Personality
In this current world, she does not have the face of a mentor capable of raising a warrior. She is not a master of martial arts, either. Unlike the Lancer Scáthach who was more approachable, "Did I step on something", "Oh, what a young one (human)", and "Should I welcome you, or should I kill you" are just what makes up the properties of nature (gods). “Blow a breath. Be like a blizzard. And living beings will die.” “Smile. Be like the eternal spring. And life will sprout gorgeously.” Both, are equivalent to her.[1]
The Formidable Queen. The Goddess of Ice and Snow. However... While ruling over the Lostbelt, she felt sorrow in her heart as "someone left behind", but she hid it away. She was a goddess beloved by the other gods and continued to be a suitor, but after the gods perished at the climax of Ragnarök, she became "the last Scandinavian God of the Lostbelt". Therefore─── Actually, she is proportionately tough. Actually, she is proportionately pure. Actually, she is proportionately warm. If one deepens their relationship with her, they will begin to see a face unlike a queen... they will see her true personality. She was neither a god nor a ruler. Even if her title "the Mother of Scandinavia" falls off, she is still a girl.[1]
Her "Chaotic" alignment is self-proclaimed. When she ruled over the Scandinavian Lostbelt, her original purpose was for social order, but it is now different when she was reborn as a Heroic Spirit, or so it is said.[1]
As a Servant of Chaldea, she has full recall of her actions in the Lostbelt, which have become a source of profound grief for her. As she sees it, she not only failed to protect her children, but her very love for them only made them suffer even more. She sometimes says that her capacity for love died with her Lostbelt, and it is only with great difficulty that she has come to terms with what she did to preserve the Lostbelt and its inhabitants.
Relationships
- "Take a look at me, Celtic Scáthach. What do you think of my swimsuit Spirit Origin? Personally I think the lack of coverage... Hm? I still have a long way to go as Scáthach if I think like that? I-I see, I suppose that's how things go... That's quite the challenge."[4]
- "Maybe I should have consulted you more on this. Hm, what's that? The concept itself was not a bad one? I see. I'm more confident, hearing that from you."[4]
- After everything, she learned that Scáthach, too, did all sorts of things one summer and thought "I see." [5]

(Gasp) Uh...well...I...Okay, let me confess...It's true that I was angry after my argument with Thrúd, but I do not recall summoning new warrior maidens. And it wasn't the power of Ibuki-Douji either. That was actually more of Odin's meddling...perhaps?"[4]
- "When I gave them their summer Spirit Origins, their numbers increased. While I am relieved that they all seem to be doing well, I can't help but worry that Odin might have intervened and tampered with their Spirit Origins."[5]

Role
Fate/Grand Order
Götterdämmerung: The Eternal Ice-Flame Century
Scáthach-Skadi became the King of the Lostbelt, establishing human villages and protecting them with the help of the Valkyrie. However, in order to keep the giants at bay, all humans were forced to reproduce at the age of fifteen and be sacrificed to the giants at the age of twenty-five. Though this arrangement was necessary to protect the humans, it still brought grief to Scáthach-Skadi. She ruled the Lostbelt for three thousand years until modern day 2018. Ophelia Phamrsolone soon arrived and informed her of the Proper History. But, Skadi knew her world was abnormal and unnatural long before.[6] At some later point, she found Sitonai and imprisoned her in her castle dungeon.[7]
Following Sigurd's theft of the Paper Moon, Skadi asks Ophelia why she ordered Sigurd to take it. With her magical snow, she sees and hears everything that occurs in the Lostbelt, including Chaldea establishing a Bounded Field around the Shadow Border to protect themselves from the giants. She reprimands Ophelia for having ordered Sigurd to kill the Chaldean, with exception of Mash, but forgives her upon seeing she cares for Mash. She then tells Sigurd not to kill them, as she forbids such acts in her Lostbelt. She tells Ophelia and Sigurd that if they ever come to know love to cherish it and never let it go. If they're not careful, loveless flames will throw everything out of balance as it has been since the gods came to be.[8]
She later meets with Koyanskaya, the latter delighting in the fact that the castle wasn't made to accommodate humans. Skadi calls humans weak and frail in constant need of a god's boundless love to sustain them. Koyanskaya admits to her disappointment that the Lostbelt is filled with Skadi's love, despite the population being kept at 10, 000. Skadi comments she will not let humans die out, considering all them her beloved children. The same applies to every creature in her domain. However, if they are an enemy, she will kill them. She then tells Koyanskaya how she's keep the population constant and the giants pacified.[9]
Later, she and Ophelia discuss which Lostbelt to cooperate with. Skadi discounts the Chinese Lostbelt, along with two of the remaining four. So she accepts Ophelia's original proposal of cooperation with the Atlantic Lostbelt. She then moves the discussion to the incident at Village 23, revealing Napoleon Bonaparte has joined Ritsuka and Mash. She tells Sigurd not to kill them, calling it unnecessary as they may meet their ends by giants or Envoys. After declaring once again that she'll love every being in the Lostbelt, Skadi calls Thrúd for her analysis of Ritsuka's party. Thrúd answers that the transgressors, Chaldea, can be left alone since Skadi permitted them to remain alive. Regarding the Envoys that were destroyed, Thrúd comments they lack the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. She believes she and her sisters won’t have to respond based on what she’s seen in their shared records. Even if they’re forced to confront Chaldea due to circumstance, Thrúd believes either the giants or an Envoy’s self-destruction function will suffice because the transgressors are a human and a Demi-Servant. Skadi expects Ritsuka's party will arrive tomorrow evening.[10]
When Ritsuka's party come to her castle, she refuses to divulge Fantasy Tree Sombrero's location to them. She knows they intend to cut it down, a sin not even she could forgive. However, she will allow them to take the Paper Moon back. She then orders Thrúd to capture them. They fight until Ophelia and Sigurd arrive. Skadi orders Thrúd to stand down under Ophelia’s request so she may speak with Mash. Thrúd complies and turns to spirit form. Then, before the fight between Sigurd and Ritsuka's party can go any further, Skadi demands Ophelia to stop it, noticing how Mash is about to collapse. Ophelia complies and has Sigurd turn to spirit form. Afterwards, Skadi uses her power to render the group's bodies inert. Caenis arrives and tries to kill Ritsuka, but Napoleon stops her. She tries to kill him, but Sigurd stops her, as Skadi doesn't permit killing. She then delivers a message from Kirschtaria Wodime for Skadi, expecting Chaldea to also be there. Following Kirschataria's message, Skadi is fascinated that he wishes to restore the Age of Gods and help the gods take their revenge. She is also amused that he would allow her Lostbelt swallow his if it grows to that extent. Caenis threatens to kill her when Skadi almost recounts Poseidon raping her. Ultimately, though, she agrees to return to the Atlantic Lostbelt.[11]
Ophelia tells Skadi that Ritsuka's party has escaped the castle. She suspects Sitonai told them where Brynhildr is sealed, and requests Skadi to tell her their current location so she and Sigurd can recapture them. Skadi tells her to leave them be, as she already decided to love them as her children. She also knows Sigurd would rather kill the group than capture them. She suggests Ophelia reflect on herself, and give some thought to Mash and Napoleon.[12][13]
When Ritsuka's party return to her castle, Skadi uses power to ensure Sigurd isn't killed by Brynhildr's spear. She also protected everyone from Surtr before he left with Ophelia. Inside, she informs the others that giants are attacking the villages, as her masks meant to pacify them ceased to function with Surtr free. After explaining the Lostbelt's origins, she is infuriated to know that the Sigurd who accompanied Ophelia harbored Surtr's soul. But she does find it unfortunate that Ophelia saw Surtr's soul with her Mystic Eye, allowing Surtr to establish a connection with the Crypter. Fantasy Tree Seeds suddenly crash down. Skadi commands them to die, but to her shock, it is ineffective. Sitonai arrives and reveals Skadi’s connection to Sombrero has been severed. After Sitonai destroys the Seeds, the group suspects Surtr is the new Lostbelt King. Skadi then reveals Sombrero is to the north, camouflaged by her magical snow. After she agrees to help, the group return to the Shadow Border in pursuit of Surtr. Skadi then reveals Sombrero is to the north, camouflaged by her magical snow. She warns Sigurd and Brynhildr that while her runes are keeping their Spiritual Cores intact, the bonds are still fragile. Thus if they expend all their magical energy in battle, Sigurd and Brynhildr's Spiritual Cores will crumble. After Skadi agrees to help, the group return to the Shadow Border in pursuit of Surtr.[2]
Reaching Village 23, Skadi, Brynhildr, Sigurd, and Ortlinde support Sitonia in blocking Surtr's attack with Heracles. Napoleon then sacrifices himself to damage Surtr with his overloaded Noble Phantasm. Before disappearing, he removes Fafnir's curse that Surtr inflicted Ophelia with from her. This last act of Napoleon's inspires Ophelia to join the others in fighting Surtr. She warns if Surtr burns the planet and the Lostbelt becomes the new history, the planet's Texture will be fire. Then, as it is her connection to Surtr, she destroys her Mystic Eye to sever their contract and remove his source of magical energy. This is followed by her using her Sirius Light to rewrite the Lostbelt.[14]
Skadi uses the land's remaining mana following Surtr's assault to grant Ritsuka' party flight and her protection so they may fight Surtr. She also has Sitonai support her in this endeavor. Following Surtr's destruction, Skadi and Leonardo da Vinci try to treat the dying Ophelia. But it is fruitless as the cost of using Sirius Light is the user's life.[15]
Sitonai unveils Sombrero to see that Surtr didn't eat all of it. Skadi suspects it remained connected to its roots via a spatial distortion within Surtr's body. Finding their abilities incredible, she wonders where the Fantasy Trees came from, and asks Ritsuka and Mash if they thought the same. Mash confirms they have, and realizes Skadi helped cultivate Sombrero without knowing its origins to create a world without humanity. Skadi dismissively confirms as much. She then ascends her very existence in preparation for her fight against Ritsuka and Mash to protect Sombrero so her world may live. Ortlinde decides to join her of her own free will. Skadi tells Ritsuka and Mash that she'll reveal the identities of the twin ravens they've seen flying around if they defeat her and destroy Sombrero. She then declares she will take the innumerable lives of the Proper History to protect her world of only 10,000, calling its existence a miracle. Sherlock Holmes deduces from these words that Skadi knew her world was abnormal and unnatural long before Ophelia informed her of the Proper History. Confirming Sherlock's deductions, Skadi laments how her world was pruned six months after Surtr was sealed. She further laments she still lacks the power to support more villages, beyond those created in the first six months. She admits her world has no real future, yet fights Ritsuka and Mash with Ortlinde to protect it.[6]
After Sombrero's destruction following her defeat, Skadi laments she couldn't protect Ortlinde. Sherlock asks why she fought Ritsuka and Mash at their full strength, even though she was still weakened from the battle against Surtr. Mash says Skadi could've used the death rune like Surtr tried to in the end. Skadi replies her pride wouldn't allow it, as she is obligated to protect all in the Lostbelt. She also reveals her magical energy was being spent restoring the land, repairing the villages, and treating the wounded following Surtr's attack. She therefore never had much magical energy to spare for her fight against Ritsuka and Mash. Then, noticing the twin ravens, Skadi reveals they are Huginn and Muninn. She also realizes they were guiding Chaldea all this time, Then, as Sombrero disappears, she reveals to Chaldea its given name, suspecting they will understand what it means. After Chaldea leaves, Skadi orders all the villagers to stay in their homes and sleep. Following her death, the Envoys deliver her final command.[6]
Imaginary Scramble
Skadi is chosen as one of the Servants alongside Osakabehime and Xiang Yu to take part in a test run of the Nautilus in Imaginary Numbers Space in preparation for the Atlantic Lostbelt. She later trains with Osakabehime and Xiang Yu onboard the Nautilus, but after they're done, Xiang Yu requests a ten-minute break and leaves. Osakabehime and Skadi both decide to rely on Ritsuka’s judgment on this matter. Everyone then takes a break.[16]
Later, after a successful Zero Sail, the alarm suddenly goes off with the sonar used in Real Number Space being active for some reason. The alarm is warning that the ship is about to run aground, even though there is no ground in Imaginary Number Space. Skadi explains that Imaginary Number Space contains all possibilities, for it is an unobservable territory where the established laws of physics do not exist. The rainbows everyone is seeing outside are merely an illusion made observable thanks to the Zero Sail’s technology. Even if anything did reside in Imaginary Number Space, it wouldn't be able to observe or interact with anything from Real Number Space, for the two are incompatible with one another. It should therefore be impossible for any obstacles to exist in Imaginary Number Space.[17]
Captain Nemo assumes the alarm is a glitch caused when Xiang Yu was fiddling with the instruments earlier. Xiang Yu then enters the room, apologizes for his absence, and tells everyone to cover their ears. He then screams at the top of his lungs, all the while painting on a bamboo scroll, and gives said scroll to Ritsuka once he’s finished. His body is unsuited for the upcoming battle, so he opted to take numerous advance measures in preparation. He advises they stop the ship and open the box, then he leaves the room to rest, wishing Ritsuka good luck.[17]
Ritsuka orders the ship to be stopped. Nemo and his partitions try to comply with the order when the Nautilus crashes into something and its hull is penetrated. Rainbows—Imaginary Numbers—are leaking inside, threatening to flood the ship and kill everyone, so Nemo orders Sections 4 through 6 to be abandoned. He also orders the evacuated sector welded shut, and barriers and a Bounded Field to be set up to isolate observation. Ritsuka, refusing to let Marine and Professor die, uses a Command Spell to teleport them to the control room.[17]
Nemo realizes the fact that Marine and Professor nearly drowned in Imaginary Numbers means Imaginary Number Space is now observable. He suspects someone or something has altered Imaginary Number Space, making so everyone can see the same rainbows, meaning Real Numbers and Imaginary Numbers can observe one another. As such, the heroes will go insane if they observe or interact with Imaginary Numbers.[17]
Something suddenly attacks the ship. Ritsuka opens the crate that Xiang Yu placed earlier and told them to open. Inside, they find Mash’s swimsuit, which BB had prepared beforehand at Xiang Yu’s request. Ritsuka uses a Command Spell to change Mash into her swimsuit instantly. The swimsuit allows Mash to go out and eliminate the hostiles, though her victory relied mostly on luck since she couldn’t see the enemy.[17]
Nemo reveals the abandoned sectors contained their computers, observation devices, torpedoes, pantry, and a plethora of magical energy resources. As a result, the Nautilus’s potential cruise time dropped to ~150 hours. Everyone could have been dead by now if it weren’t for the preparations Xiang Yu made beforehand. Mash opens Xiang Yu’s scroll to find it has a sea chart; his roar was a wide range echolocation scan. The chart shows they’re currently in a maze-like trench, also marking their current location, a recommended route, and a destination.[17]
With Professor in charge of the selection process, Ritsuka tries to summon a Servant from the Spirit Origin graph only to summon Yang Guifei, a Foreigner-class Servant they don’t remember, from the Throne instead. Guifei agrees to help and reveals that, with her exceptional hearing, she has been hearing someone outside pounding on the ship, warning of incoming enemies. Mash, Skadi, and Osakabehime go out (Skadi changed herself and Osakabehime into swimsuits using her runic magecraft to copy the Imaginary Numbers Formula memory chip BB embed in the swimsuit she sent) and eliminate the enemy, which they were able to see thanks to Guifei’s powers. Afterward, Mash and Osakabehime rescue and bring aboard Van Gogh.[17]
Five hours have passed without another attack, and Van Gogh is already cooperating. However, the crew questions if Van Gogh is the famed artist Vincent Van Gogh and if she can be trusted since Nurse's medical examination of her suggests she isn't human and confirmed she is female, unlike Vincent. Skadi sees no issue with Van Gogh being female since there seems to be a precedence for genderswapped Heroic Spirits in Chaldea. Mash argues that those Heroic Spirits all had their own reasons for why their gender differed from what was known, but the commonality between them is that they’re all from time periods with very few reliable historical records. Meanwhile, Vincent is from the 19th century, and there is plenty of visual evidence to confirm he is male.[17]
Nemo suggests Van Gogh is either deluded into thinking she’s Vincent, Vincent himself with his gender and memories confused by an abnormality in his Spirit Origin, or a hostile impostor. It’s also worrying she doesn’t truly understand she is a Foreigner, but because she’s already provided valuable information about Imaginary Number Space, everyone agrees she isn’t an enemy. Ritsuka decides to enter into a temporary contract with her. Nemo has everyone leave the room so he can have a private conversation with Ritsuka.[17]
Meanwhile, Skadi finds an alleged self-destruct switch in the storeroom and shows it to a supposedly drunk Mash. The sound of the explosion attracts Imaginary Number Space monsters, leading them to attack the Nautilus. As Mash is drunk and Osakabehime is missing, only Skadi is available for combat, but since she alone isn't enough, she forces the Imaginary Numbers formula on Guifei so she can accompany her. Van Gogh joins them after contracting with Ritsuka.[17]
After achieving victory, Skadi realizes Osakabehime ran away because the latter figured out the former intends to shoot her out of a torpedo tube for reconnaisance purposes. Osakabehime is eventually found and captured. Skadi explains that it is too dangerous to use sonar to locate enemies as they’re attracted to sound, so she proposes sending Osakabehime out and having her use the divination she uses to prepare her Noble Phantasm to detect enemies instead. Osakabehime is convinced by Ritsuka to follow Skadi’s plan. Nemo assigns her, Guifei, and Van Gogh to eliminate any enemies she detects as they progress through the trench, while Mash will act as the last line of defense and Skadi will work with Professor as head of engineering.[17]
The conversation then turns to how they have very little resources; food, magical energy, and materials for repairs. Van Gogh suggests eating the monsters for food and magical energy like she did while adrift. Her words turn out to be true following a battle, so it’s decided the combat team will double as a resource provisional team. Then, tying monster entrails to her to act as a lifeline, Osakabehime is launched.[17] Skadi and Professor soon find a way to convert enemy carcasses from Imaginary Numbers to Real Number, making them edible.[18]
Nemo later calls everyone to the bridge for an emergency briefing about the recent discovery he made. It has been discovered that Van Gogh’s unique blood converts Imaginary Number beings into Real Number beings, and the monsters are essentially a renewable resource for everything the crew needs. Unfortunately, it has also been discovered that the Nautilus cannot currently resurface because the current Imaginary Number Space lacks the concept of depth, so the spells the Paper Moon uses to employ the necessary concepts for reemergence are currently unavailable. Any attempts to resurface will either result in nothing happening or crashing into a reef because of the glitched coordinates. Worse still, Osakabehime had detected a monster larger than the Nautilus that Nemo dubs an enemy ship.[18]
The combat team is sent out to prevent the monster from reaching the Nautilus, but they’re unfortunately soon overwhelmed. Ritsuka calls for a retreat, but the lifelines are snagged. Worse, Guifei hears reinforcements coming. Fortunately, Van Gogh uses her Noble Phantasm to rescue the combat team, allowing the Nautilus to ram on through. None of the combat team save Van Gogh seem to remember how they were rescued.[18]
Much later, Skadi along with Nemo prepares a feast to commemorate the crew’s hard work on surpassing their 150 hour time limit. Everyone heads to the mess hall for the feast, though Guifei thought she heard something. Unfortunately, the feast is interrupted when the ship is attacked. Nemo finds it strange the enemy found them as he was certain the ship was running silently. At his behest, the combat team heads out and eliminates the enemy before resuming the feast.[19]
Later, Minamoto-no-Raikou eliminates enemy ships (which aren’t even retaliating) barring the Nautilus from the next area. But then Guifei hears that strange sound again and warns an ambush is coming. Nemo orders the combat team to be ready to deploy when Osakabehime reports that the ambusher is another enemy ship. Nemo asks Professor to tell Raikou to switch targets to the new enemy ship, but Professor refuses as recalculating the homing spell inscribed on Raikou’s Noble Phantasm would take too long. Nemo thinks they may have no choice but to use the Nautilus Noble Phantasm, even with Raikou still out there.[20]
Van Gogh paints a platform for Raikou to stand on and the combat team is sent out to protect her while she destroys enemy ships. As they do, the Nautilus slowly reverses, luring the enemy ship away from Raikou and the combat team. Once the Nautilus is far enough away from them, Nemo uses his Noble Phantasm to destroy the enemy ship at point-blank range once the Nautilus is far enough from Raikou and the combat team. Unfortunately, the combat team’s platform suddenly falls apart and the shockwave from the Nautilus Noble Phantasm blasts them away. Communication with them is lost, and worse, they had cut their lifelines in preparation for the attack so now they are adrift. Fortunately, they’re rescued by the recently summoned Meltryllis whom Skadi provided with Imaginary Number chip so she could go outside. Afterward, however, everyone witnesses Gogh suddenly gnawing on her own arm. She is taken to the infirmary, where she eventually calms down. Her outburst was apparently the result of her being confused about what had happened.[20]
The crew soon enters the third area, whereupon they’re attacked by a swarm of smaller enemies accompanied by a giant Enemy Ship. The swarm is eliminated when the giant Enemy Ship destroys a landmass with an energy beam, the aftershock of which rocks the Nautilus as if to dissuade the crew from going any further. Nevertheless, the Nautilus proceeds further in.[21]
Following many battles, it becomes very clear the third area is absolutely packed with enemies, though fortunately there has been no sign of the giant enemy ship since the crew’s first encounter with it. Skadi and Ritsuka both suspect someone is controlling the creatures, but Nemo considers that only to be speculation at the moment. Nevertheless, the giant enemy ship could attack at any moment, so Osakabehime and Guifei must keep a watch out for it. The ship is then suddenly attacked by a swarm of enemies, but the crew eliminates them promptly.[22]
Frankenstein is later summoned per Van Gogh’s strategy to destroy the giant Enemy Ship requiring a Servant with a close-ranged Noble Phantasm. She gets tired following a battle, so Skadi offers to let her nap in her workshop. She needs to work on her Noble Phantasm anyway.[23]
Sometime later, the crew destroys the giant Enemy Ship—Enemy Ship Alpha. But Alpha makes a loud sound as it dies, which fatally wounds Guifei as a result of her sensitive hearing and having weakened her own Spirit Origin when she cloned herself earlier. Desperate to save Guifei, Van Gogh activates De Sterrennacht, explaining that it deifies any Foreigners who look upon it while driving everyone else insane. She therefore implores the latter to close their eyes when a white flash occurs.[24]
The deification restores Guifei’s Spirit Origin, but as a side effect, her Spirit Origin changed to her third Ascension. Van Gogh is glad the deification didn’t go any further, otherwise Guifei wouldn’t be a Servant. However, it seems the Ascension had affected Guifei’s personality as she offers to serve everyone and her beloved emperor for giving her a second chance at life. She notices the change and changes back to her second Ascension, restoring her original personality.[24]
Van Gogh concludes her Noble Phantasm is too dangerous, knowing with a single mistake every Foreigner can become a threat to humanity. She admonishes herself as a pathetic excuse for a Heroic Spirit and believes she has no right to serve Ritsuka. Ritsuka, Nemo, and Guifei, however, seemingly convince her of her own self-worth and wish for her to stay. Van Gogh is moved by their kindness and promises to do everything to help.[24]
Entering the fourth and final area, the Nautilus is hit by an enemy ship’s beam that no one could tell where it came from. Skadi, calling from her workshop, says she’ll study the enemy’s new adaptation once the ship is out of harm’s way.[25] After several more stealth attacks, the crew retreats to a calmer area. Guifei, per her duty as sonar, realizes and reveals that the area’s exit is blocked. Skadi reiterates her theory that the Imaginary Number Sea creatures are being controlled by someone, and if true, they’re either telling the crew they’re going to kill them slowly or they shall not pass. She suggests following the latter when another attack hits the ship. Her theory proves to be true after Nemo stops the Nautilus for a while. The stress of the situation is getting to Nemo, and he decides he needs to be alone, so Ritsuka tells everyone to take a break.[26]
However, the ship soon becomes overrun with monsters spawned from Van Gogh’s blood. After the monsters are slain, everyone gathers at the bridge. There the crew argues about Van Gogh’s innocence since her blood was used to summon monsters and she is most likely the Foreigner who created the spatial gaps from which the enemy launched multiple stealth attacks against the Nautilus. Despite Raikou’s insistence that there is no evidence against her, the Marines refuse to believe Van Gogh is innocent and start a mutiny calling for her execution. The conflict overloads Nemo into an unresponsive state. Xiang Yu then suddenly enters the room and uses his Noble Phantasm at minimum power to knock out the thirteen Marines; he is awake because the incident hadn’t been resolved by now like he calculated. Ritsuka remembers there are only supposed to be twelve Marines and deduces the impostor is Oei, prompting the latter to remove her disguise.[27]
Oei confesses she is responsible for nearly every problem the crew has encountered, all because she wanted to stay in the Imaginary Number Sea, calling it a painter’s dream come true. She had knocked out her father when he disagreed and found a way to stowaway on the Nautilus. She has no loyalty toward the Outer Gods and only wants to stay here and paint all she can, so she requests Ritsuka to keep the Nautilus here for the next 200 years or so. Ritsuka refuses, leading to a battle between Oei and the crew.[27]
Pushed back, Oei confesses she came to the Imaginary Number Sea because a voice from its deepest depths was calling to her. She and Guifei start charging their Noble Phantasms when Van Gogh (she recently regained consciousness from an earlier battle with Ritsuka, Frankenstein, and Raikou) enters the room. Oei realizes Van Gogh is the one who called her, but she realizes she isn’t Vincent Van Gogh. She tries to ask for her true identity, but Meltryllis knocks her out.[27]
Realizing what Oei said was true, Van Gogh asks Ritsuka if they know her Heroic Spirit’s true identity. Suddenly the Marines all start saying Clytie, a name Nemo has been keeping to himself, repeatedly. Van Gogh recognizes the name and turns into her third Ascension. But even after hearing that, she still can’t help but think of herself as Van Gogh, nor can she escape his memories. She therefore intends to die somewhere deep and far away so she will not bring trouble to everyone and teleports away. Everyone agrees with Ritsuka they need to find her.[27]
Nemo later recovers and everyone discusses Van Gogh’s true identity. Nemo deduces she is Clytie (Apollo’s former Oceanid lover) implanted with Vincent van Gogh’s memories. Skadi realizes the Outer Gods always intended for Van Gogh to go insane and theorizes that they seek to use Imaginary Number Space as an outpost to invade modern-day Earth. For this reason, they summoned Van Gogh to Imaginary Number Space and, per their orders, called Oei and waited for the crew. She was also ordered to create a base and recruit and deify Chaldea’s Foreigners.[27]
In answering Van Gogh’s call, Oei became amendable to the Outer Gods’ desires and, per their plans, she stowed away in the Nautilus and transformed Imaginary Number Space into a sea. If she wasn’t stopped, it is likely she would’ve succumbed to madness completely and painted a temple for the Outer Gods, which would serve as their outpost. Skadi theorizes the Outer Gods planned on having Van Gogh use her Noble Phantasm to deify the other Foreigners once the temple was complete through which they meant to descend upon Earth.[27]
However, Skadi believes Van Gogh had no desire to betray the crew, which is why the Outer Gods fused her with Clytie. She concludes from Vincent’s history that he committed suicide because he learned his painting Starry Night had inadvertently invited an Outer God into their world and he’d rather die than fall under the Outer Gods’ influence. His absolute refusal to obey them obviously caused a conundrum for the Outer Gods since they desired his Noble Phantasm above all others, so they created their own Heroic Spirit by implanting Clytie with Vincent’s memories and talent. Clytie’s refusal to end her life would conflict with Vincent’s unconscious need to commit suicide and eventually Van Gogh drive to madness and use her Noble Phantasm without compunction.[27]
Meltryllis suggests they honor Van Gogh’s wish and kill her since she cannot kill herself, seeing the fact she abandoned the only people who could do that as proof her madness has reached its peak. Van Gogh is only a step away from initiating her final, most dangerous plan, so if the crew wants to save her from that fate, they need a plan that’s just, kind, wise, and smart. Everyone agrees to come up with a plan to save Van Gogh while stopping the Outer Gods. Xiang Yu confesses he calculated Van Gogh would separate herself from the others. The crew will reencounter Van Gogh in the current area, but Xiang Yu warns they’ll need to be prepared for fierce battles.[27]
The crew eventually located Van Gogh, but discover that her body had been mutated into a giant flower bud. Skadi theorizes it is the Outer Gods' contingency plan in case Van Gogh failed to deify the other Foreigners with De Sterrennacht. Then, per Nemo's request for aid in getting through the flower's shell, Skadi goes with him, Ritsuka and Mash to the cargo hold where Oei is being kept prisoner.[28]
Oei agrees to help and reveals that the spatial gaps actually work like a real Go board, meaning any area they surround becomes their territory. Therefore, if the crew can make the area Van Gogh is in their territory by capturing the four surrounding gaps, they can warp inside her. Nemo says they will capture the four gaps with as few people as possible. Once that is done, they will go inside the flower and rescue Van Gogh at its center. Afterward, they will use Raikou’s Noble Phantasm to destroy the flower from the inside. Skadi decides the rescue team will consist of Raikou, Meltryllis, and Frankenstein; Raikou will assume torpedo duties, Meltryllis will be the escort, and Frankenstein will rescue Van Gogh. As for who will capture the four points, she decides it will be Guifei, Osakabehime, herself, and Oei.[28]
All the sudden, Van Gogh lets out a screech that shakes the Nautilus and implores the crew to stay away, sending out Enemy Ships in order to force them. She knows everyone wants to save her, but she believes they shouldn’t, considering herself too dangerous and feels she has no right to be with them.[28]
She is no longer certain of who she is, wanting to die because she is Vincent, but refusing to die because she is Clytie. But none of that matters, for she only needs to follow the Outer Gods’ orders to use her Noble Phantasm to deify other Foreigners. Even if her mind self-destructs due to overload, she can still fulfill her main objective by engaging her core consciousness and letting her divine form bloom. She is glad her life has a purpose even if she cannot stand it or herself, and is certain Vincent and Clytie would feel the same way.
To the crew’s surprise, though, half of the enemy warheads contain A-rank explosives while the other heals, and if they weren’t hitting at the same time, the ship would’ve sunk long ago. Nemo realizes it is the result of Van Gogh feeling conflicted over whether to give herself over to the Outer Gods’ influence or rid herself of their influence. As a Phantom Spirit himself, he can tell she is trying to fight their influence. Ritsuka suggests to Nemo since that they’re both Phantom Spirits, maybe his voice can get through to Van Gogh.[28]
With Guifei amplifying his voice so it reaches her, Nemo asks Van Gogh to give herself a name so she may gain a sense of self. He promises her that, no matter what name she choses she will not be abandoned and she will be rescued. After a moment, all enemy projectiles are fully converted into support resources. Van Gogh then addresses the Nautilus crew, declaring herself Clytie van Gogh, telling them if they can accept that name she’d be happy if they saved her.[28]
Van Gogh is eventually rescued from the flower, which Raikou destroys from the inside with her Noble Phantasm. The Evil God of Flowers (Van Gogh’s Outer God and the mastermind behind this whole incident) contacts the crew afterward. It accepts it lost due to lack of foresight, but it also claims the crew had refused their chance at the second-best outcome they could’ve hoped for: a peaceful, gentle destruction. It finds it a pity and bids the crew farewell.[29]
Now back on the Nautilus, Van Gogh begins the process of creating a Holy Grail, which will be used to return Imaginary Numbers Space to normal, so the Nautilus crew can leave, as well as prevent future invasions. While she is making it, though, she reveals she cannot use Le Père Tanguy, though she can still paint the picture. Ritsuka remembers it was Guifei who first brought up Le Père Tanguy when Xiang Yu suddenly tries to kill her. He fails and is defeated by Guifei's counterattack. He apologizes to Ritsuka that the rest is up to them and collapses.[30]
Guifei snatches the Grail Van Gogh just finished making. Raikou and Meltryllis try to stop her, but her flames keep them from approaching her, having carefully researched everyone so none of them could stop her at this precise moment. She then fills the bridge with a curse, which presumably prompts the Marines to suddenly grab Skadi, Osakabehime, and Meltryllis from behind; Meltryllis can't even liquify her body to escape for unknown reasons. Guifei had planned for this exact moment and decided now to make her move now that she is overflowing with eldritch power (the Outer Gods' power source), which the Outer Gods used to bug out the summoning system and connect directly to the Throne. Guifei then changes into her third Ascension to demonstrate her allegiance to the Outer Gods.[30]
Van Gogh believes her usage of De Sterrennacht had turned Guifei into the Outer Gods' ally. Guifei corrects her that she was always their ally, revealing she came to Imaginary Number Space because she was called. Van Gogh refuses to believe that as the Evil God of Flowers only had her call out to gods of the same alliance and of those only Hokusai had answered. Guifei reveals her emperor had vacated a spot in the Throne for her so she could be summoned from it. She then calls Ritsuka her emperor, putting them in a trance.
Unable to speak, Ritsuka is manipulated into commanding Guifei to bring forth depravity or destruction. Fortunately, Frankenstein destroys the good luck doll Guifei gave Ritsuka, allowing them to speak again. Ritsuka tries to rescind "their" command, but it is too late, as Guifei uses the Grail to hack the summoning system and summon Abigail Williams and Mysterious Heroine XX, though she could've sworn she summoned a third Servant. But believing the current number will suffice, she proceeds to infuse all present Foreigners with eldritch power, driving all of them (expect for Van Gogh) insane.[30]
She declares that the Foreigners will now hold the Great Foreigner Festival Imaginary Number Sea Scramble Ritsuka "requested", a festival where they will vie for control of the Imaginary Number Sea, with the winner earning the right to rule over the next era on Earth. Ritsuka tries to tell they never asked for anything of that, but Meltryllis concludes Guifei had only pretended to be sane from the very beginning. Then, at Guifei's behest, the Foreigners leave the Nautilus to take the Imaginary Number Sea for themselves, except for Van Gogh as the eldritch power didn't render her insane, presumably because her link with her Outer God was severed when its terminal was physically destroyed.[30]
Frankenstein destroys the dolls Guifei gave to the Marines and Baker returning them to normal. Skadi concludes they can stop the Foreigners' rampage by destroying the terminals feeding them eldritch power from the Outer Gods and then restrain them once they've come to their senses. She suggests Van Gogh use De Sterrennacht, believing it can be used to remove the Outer Gods' terminal from each Foreigner, thereby severing the link between the two. Van Gogh agrees to do it, wanting to be of more help now that she is free of the Evil God of Flowers' machinations.[30]
Though she is sure the Foreigners will be fine once their madness is removed, Osakabehime asks what should be done about Guifei since it seemed her madness ran deep. Meltryllis and Raikou both want to kill her, but Ritsuka refuses to let that happen. Wu Zetian then addresses the crew, having been summoned with Abigail and XX but went unnoticed during the commotion. Mash thinks they might be able to return Guifei to her senses with Zetian as she is the grandmother of Emperor Xuanzong, Guifei's beloved emperor. Zetian agrees to help, and so the Nautilus crew sets out to stop the Foreigners.[30]
The crew eventually succeed in restoring the Foreigners' sanity. Van Gogh uses the Grail to return Imaginary Number Space to its pre-tampered state, allowing the ship to finally return to Real Number Space. But the moment the Nautilus returns to Real Number Space, the entire voyage is revealed to have been a dream.[31]
Interlude
An unknown amount of time after the events of the British Lostbelt, Ritsuka glimpses in a daydream one of Skadi's dreams in which she asks Odin why she was left as the only goddess in her Lostbelt and why he also abandoned all her children. Sherlock Holmes, who had been in the middle of a tactics report with Ritsuka, is fascinated by how he can see memories and records of his Servants even through daydreams. Before he can elaborate further Skadi orders him to cease so he does not unravel its Mystery too greatly. She is aware that Ritsuka could see her memories. and asks Ritsuka and Holmes to help her settle a certain issue for her.
The scene cuts to Ritsuka speaking with Cú Chulainn (Lancer) and Cú Chulainn (Prototype), who agree to help clean up for their other self's mistake. Cú Chulainn Alter says he isn't interested in joining them, but Medb also accompanies them (as she is convinced that Skadi intends to make a sexual advance on Cú and wants to see what happens). They plan to lure Caster Cú into the simulator under the pretense of having him examine a rune they do not recognize, but he sees through the intended trap. His attempt to escape is thwarted by Skadi and Medb, and the former demands she be allowed to speak to him in his capacity as Odin's Pseudo-Servant. After a pitched battle, he concedes and allows her to voice her feelings.
Skadi laments that even after her summoning, Caster Cú- or more precisely, Odin- never spoke to her. He tries to explain that Odin's blessings have nearly faded in his current manifestation and that even if that wasn't the case, the Odin of Proper Human History and the Odin of the Scandinavian Lostbelt were never the same entity and shouldn't be treated as such. Skadi disputes this, citing how Morgan and Odysseus gained the records of their counterparts, but according to Cú it would not be possible for Odin to steal those records from himself like they did. She continues to press him about whether Odin could not have seen his other selves' worlds like Gilgamesh can, but he reiterates that he isn't the true Odin and isn't capable of such a feat himself.
Hearing this, Skadi orders him to shut up before breaking into tears. She demands to know why Odin did not save her and her children, and instead allowed her to instead create a cycle of false life that she can now recognize as an abomination. She curses herself for killing millions of her children after promising them a place in a nonexistent Valhalla, and concludes by asking why Odin did not simply let her die with the rest of the Norse gods.
Although he again warns that he's not Odin, Caster Cú says that if the Lostbelt Odin was anything like the Odin of Proper Human History, he would have spared Skadi out of love and have seen her future in Chaldea, "smiling like a brat after eating some ice cream". Skadi is only more upset that he would have had so little regard for her children, but Ritsuka advises her not to question Odin's feelings and to let herself be happy as Odin would have wanted. She agrees to heed their advice.
Abilities
The Skaði appearing in the Norse Lostbelt is not a Servant nor a Divine Spirit; a god that lost their true body and fused with nature, but an actual full living goddess.[10] Rather than dying in Ragnarök like the other gods,[10] Odin fused her with the Celtic warrior Scáthach,[2][10] a woman with whom she shared a fateful bond.[2] Thus, she remained intact for thousands of years, ever since the Age of Gods up to the present day.[10] Being a superior class of deity, Ophelia Phamrsolone states that the power of Scáthach-Skaði is easily a match for a Divine Spirit and that she can't imagine her having anything to fear, even from Caenis.[32] Upon being notified by Kirschtaria that Caenis would visit her Lostbelt, Ophelia expressed concern that Scáthach-Skaði would destroy Caenis Saint Graph if they were to clash.[9] Originally, it would be impossible for her to manifest as a Servant due to her not being a Heroic Spirit of the Human Order, however, she's able to be summoned by Chaldea as a pseudo-Divine Spirit.[33] The Chaldean regards Scáthach-Skaði as an extremely powerful Mage but he also believes that Solomon is superior and the strongest mage.[34]
Even while using a large portion of her power to suppress the flames of Surtr for thousands of years, Scáthach-Skaði possesses a vast amount of Magical Energy that is capable of filling up her entire castle. Upon meeting her, Mash stated that she was unable to even begin to grasp the amount of magical energy, thus being unable to determine how strong Skaði was. Her energy was so concentrated that Mash felt like she was about to pass out, further adding that it could instantly kill any normal creature. It even reminded her of the Seventh Singularity and the massive magical energy in the atmosphere there. Just seeing her standing is enough to claim she's on par with "Sigurd".[11] In fact, although "Sigurd" may be the strongest being in all of Scandinavia, Ophelia claims Skaði is the exception.[8] Even after Ophelia released one of his limiters, allowing Surtr to manifest Sigurd's stage 2, there was no doubt in Da Vinci's mind that Skaði was more dangerous than him and thus the unquestioned ruler of the Lostbelt. It wasn't until his final limiter was removed and Surtr got access to Sigurd's full capabilities as a Heroic Spirit that Mash claimed his demonic sword became more powerful than anything they had seen before.[13] Skaði is powerful enough to boost Sigurd's Bölverk Gram to block Surtr's flames, a feat that he could have never accomplished on his own.[2] She can also use the earth's leylines to boost Ritsuka's party with her blessings, allowing them to damage Surtr more effectively.[6]
Skaði is capable of ascending her very existence with the same method Chaldea's summoning system employs to enhance Heroic Spirits. Despite unlocking her full capabilities in the form of her final ascension against Ritsuka and Mash in their final confrontation, the chaldean team defeats both Ortlinde and her due to them not having recovered any magical energy after their battle with Surtr from suppressing his power over the millennia. Whereas Mash had completely healed, she was extremely weakened. Furthermore, even though she could have used a death rune to instantly kill Mash, her pride could not permit it.[15]
In combat, Skaði's usual weapon is her frost magecraft; Skaði's magecraft is powerful enough to summon a number of Frost Giants, known as Jötunn, to fight alongside her. Sometimes, a number of spears similar to Gae Bolg materialize from the shadows, but she doesn't seem to understand why she can use them.[1]As revealed, Scathach-Skaði is also able to create the Envoys, mass produced copies of the the past three Valkyries serving her, that she created to help her manage the human populace of the Norse Lostbelt. Who, while not having the same fire power and strength, the sheer number of them was able to more to make up for it.
Skills
Class Skills
- Territory Creation (EX Rank): As a queen, she's able to reproduce her castle anywhere she goes. To modern magecraft, this extraordinary ability would be equal to Temple-level, but Skadi herself claims that she's 'not very good' at creating territory. If so, one must wonder how incredible the God of Magic Odin's abilities would be.[1] Once Ragnarök concluded, Skadi turned the vast majority of her power toward extinguishing the flames that threatened to consume the world and all life on it. Through her Authority she blanketed Scandinavia with her snow and ice, laden with magical energy. Thus creating safe heavens that the surviving giants could not touch in order to give humans an opportunity to live their lives.[2] Every bit of snow and ice blanketing her Lostbelt is part of her and extends her authority. Thus, nothing can elude her. She knows, sees and hears everything that takes place within her domain.[8] She can use her Ice and Snow to disrupt the Shadow Borders equipment and optically and magically camouflage objects as large as the Fantasy Tree Sombrero.
- Item Construction (A Rank): As a queen, she's able to create many things with her mana. She can create anything from miraculous medicines to equipment to tree seeds, but they all seem to be created with a low temperature. Her items will be cold to the touch.[1] Thanks to Ymir's blood, other than her shadow, ice and snow-based abilities, Scathach-Skadi has also displayed the ability to use the three surviving Valkyries as a base to mass-produce a hundred envoys infused with her own magical energy.[2] This, alongside her Authority over giants, allowed her to keep both giants and humans in check for thousands of years.[10]
- Divine Core of the Goddess (A Rank): A skill that symbolizes her status as a goddess. A composite skill that includes Divinity. Due to Scathach-Skadi possessing both god and giant attributes, she has been classified as A-rank instead of EX.[1] Being the daughter of the giant Pjazi, she possesses his former Authority to control giants. By putting them masks infused with her Magical Energy,[2] she can make them attack or sleep with a single command. However, even she cannot suppress their instincts. The giants who survived the Ragnarök consume heat in any form they can. Thus, they can't serve as a proper, disciplined army. As familiars go, Surtr regards them as third-rate at best. Although they may have lived through Ragnarök up to the present day, they are only pitiful shadows of their former selves. They were once beings on par with the gods.[10]
Personal Skills
- Primordial Rune (— Rank): The ability to freely control norse runes. Unlike the runes commonly used by modern magi, these are the original runes created by the great god Odin. Their power transcends human understanding.[1] According to Norse Mythology, Odin made most of the world from Ymir, with the exception of the runes, which he discovered after offering up his own life. He saw that the shape of the runes contained the depth of the world itself, as such the runes can be called pathways to the truth that Odin discovered.[35] With these runes, she can employ numerous spells including a divine curse capable of rendering both Napoleon and Mash inert without them being able to lift a single finger.[11] Like Surtr she can also inscribe a primordial rune of death, which is said to bring inescapable death to any living being. Skadi can also use her runes to hold Sigurd's and Brynhildr's Spirit Core's together after they had been damaged, however, the bonds are fragile. Thus, the cores will inevitably crumble should they spend all their magical energy in battle.[2] She can also use her Primordial Runes to simultaneously summon a large number of Divine Iron Shields, strong enough to aid, alongside the rest of Ritsuka's party, Berserker Heracles to momentarily hold back Surtr's Loptr Laegjarn.[14] Skaði's runes also allowed them to fly within a hundred-meter range next to Surtr's head to attack him.[6]
- Freezing Blizzard (B Rank): A skill that represents her attribute as the goddess of the icy mountains, Skadi. The manifestation of the cold winds of the north that freeze all of creation. Normally this ability is part of her goddess Authority, so if she uses it at A rank or above, Queen Scathach's spiritual core will completely shatter. Due to this, the use of this skill is limited to B rank.[1]
- Wisdom of the Great God (B+ Rank): Due to being known as 'the beautiful bride of the gods', Skadi's body possesses the blessings and protection of the Norse gods. A skill based on the wisdom obtained by the Great Odin when he gave up one of his eyes. It's similar but differs from Scathach's 'Wisdom of Dún Scáith' skill.[1]

Scáthach-Skadi's Noble Phantasm is Gate of Skye.[1]

- Primordial Rune (Midsummer) (- Rank): Scathach-Skadi, who has changed into a Summer Saint Graph, also utilizes the Primordial Rune. The rune also switches over to midsummer specifications, but only the user may know what is exactly different.[36]
- Midsummer Ice Cream (C Rank): She loves ice cream. It’s cold and sweet. A girl-like smile that Scathach-Skadi flashes at unexpected moments. Originally, it was supposed to be a composite skill that included the effects of Beach Crisis. It gives a buff to one’s own party.[36]
- Dreaming in the Late Summer Night (A+ Rank). Scathach-Skadi, who has changed her Saint Graph, is known as the “Summer Goddess of Reflection.” She ponders on how to give the members and Servants of Chaldea including the Master, survivors of Proper Human History, a taste of “summer fun.” As for her own self ――― she also wonders about what her other self was like a long time ago, the shadow of the queen who once lived a different life. Furthermore, since she is now in Chaldea, she also thinks about how she won’t fail like back in Christmas……[36]

Scáthach-Skadi's Noble Phantasm is Gate of Aegir.
Development
Creation and Conception
Scáthach-Skadi was designed by Hirokazu Koyama in Fate/Grand Order. Her scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai in Fate/Grand Order.
Comment from Illustrator
"When I first heard 'Queen Scathach', I thought 'Queen of the Land of Shadows'? But it turns out it was something completely different and she ended up being the frivolous queen of the land of ice. Her first stage was designed thinking of a queen who would likely live in a castle of ice. Her second stage has her changing to something closer to combat attire. Her third stage was designed as something more like a battle dress. It seems her third stage got used to allude to her legend as the bride of the gods. I designed her to be younger and of a smaller build compared to Scathach. I drew her with the intention of them being completely different characters despite looking similar." (Koyama Hirokazu)[1]
