TezcatlipocaWP (テスカトリポカ, Tesukatoripoka?), Class Name Ruler (ルーラー, Rūrā?), is a Ruler-class Pseudo-Servant summoned by Daybit Sem Void. He is identified as a Grand Servant in the Indian Lostbelt, but no mention of his classification as one is made when encountering him in the South American Lostbelt.

Although he was originally Grand Berserker (グランドバーサーカー, Gurando Bāsākā?), he is later summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru of Chaldea as an Assassin, where he comments on having gained the position of Grand Assassin (グランドアサシン, Gurando Asashin?) that First Hassan had previously left void.[3] He summons Pretender Tenochtitlan in the South American Lostbelt.

Profile

Identity

Tezcatlipoca is a spider and jaguar deity. Quetzalcoatl earned Tezcatlipoca's resentment through his actions as a god, causing the two to battle. Quetzalcoatl was defeated by Tezcatlipoca, in part due to Quetzalcoatl consuming alcohol. Upon planning to leave the Aztecs, Quetzalcoatl burned down his own temple to keep Tezcatlipoca from taking claim of his treasures.[4]

There are four Tezcatlipocas, all different aspects of a single Divine Spirit. They are each given a color and a compass direction: Black Tezcatlipoca, Red Tezcatlipoca, Blue Tezcatlipoca, and White Tezcatlipoca.[1][5] This one is Black Tezcatlipoca, the cold-blooded and ruthless god of war, who will never heed the opinions of others,[1] as well as the God of Darkness representing night, battle, and a previous sun, who demands sacrifices. He can freely switch between his four aspects, though since Black hates Quetzalcoatl he will never change to White.[5] Also known as Yayauhqui Tezcatlipoca (ヤヤウキ・テスカトリポカ?).[6]

He was also known as Tohil and K'awiil to the Maya. Both of them are him.[7]

As a Divine Spirit, Tezcatlipoca can't be summoned under normal circumstances. The Servant Tezcatlipoca is a Pseudo-Servant, but his human vessel is just an empty human body that he created himself. It is similar to the humanoid avatars of the Machine Gods of Olympus.[8]

Tezcatlipoca became the Grand Assassin when King Hassan stepped down.[7]

Appearance

Tezcatlipoca manifests before Quetzalcoatl at some point, and she describes his form as "the worst form", saying, "Really, you’re so dirty-looking to the point that I want to smash you to pieces."[4]

Personality

Tezcatlipoca is said to be an evil god, Quetzalcoatl describing him as "The worst, disgusting Divine Spirit no matter the time or place." He has apparently taken a liking to some aspect of modern civilization. Quetzalcoatl hypocritically criticizes him for it, saying he should be ashamed of himself as a god, despite her own liking of lucha libre.[4]

He enjoys modern weapons. They're cumbersome, tasteless, and costly, all of which he welcomes. He believes that tools of war should evolve just like life does. However, he believes that the idea of a battle without fair casualties on both sides is a sick joke, and that Chaldea making it so far without casualties is pure luck that has run out.[9] According to First Hassan, who calls him "Smoking Mirror", Tezcatlipoca kills for the sake of killing and exists to die, which Hassan can't dispute his belief in.[10]

He believes that hierarchy must be respected. He will shoot even family members if they don't respect the fact that he ranks above them.[11] He will also shoot people who badmouth his family.[8]

Tezcatlipoca is fatalistic, which he attributes to Aztecs as a whole. Someone dies when their time comes, and there's no need to change fate.[8]

Relationships

Tenochtitlan
"Metztliapan, my cute little sister. She also calls herself Huitzilopochtli. If her level of humidity was a bit lower, I wouldn't have a thing to say as her old brother."[6]
Quetzalcoatl
"Yo, Coatl! What's with the old-fashioned looks? Did you come to make me laugh? You, who love new stuff, are learning from the past? …Ah? "I love the Azteca, and above that I love the culture I raised"? "I fight just like in the myths. I'm not a fashionist as you", you say? Why you… You got a nice figure so get changed. Aaah~, here I thought I could worship Birdie's Latino style."[6]
"Quetzalcoatl! Did you get addicted to body language? Nice, looks like the forgetful birdbrain is alive and well."[6]
Kukulkan
"Lostbelt Kukulkan. It's ironic that someone imitating our myth is truer than the god himself. I can change my personality at will, you see. No one in Quetzalcoatl's knows how to use their brains, but they still take things too seriously."[6]
Jaguar Man
"Jaguar. I don't really think I chose the wrong person. You're good like that, probably. …However, why do you have a relationship of intuitive understanding with Quetzalcoatl? Could it be that you became one of her followers?"[6]
"The jaguar is America's strongest, smartest, and most divine beast. Therefore I'm an avatar of the jaguar. …Got it? Be conscious about the smart part."[6]
First Hassan
"Old man, I succeeded to the Grand name through a connection with the mountains, but this is a loan, 'kay? Next time I hav to finish up something, just give it up at once."[6]
Captain Nemo
"The Storm Border's nice. I've always wanted to operate a battleship. Hey, can we have a serious business discussion? Haha, don't be so harsh. You now may not, but you as a young adult are an acquaintance of mine."[6]
James Moriarty
"Yo, Professor. You got a management advisor in Chaldea, don't you? Then how about you hire me as a management advisor too? Would be the best if it's you, how about we settle down and talk?"[6]
Koyanskaya of Darkness
"Solar eclipse. A blocked sun, the sun's shadow floating in the night, in other words a smoked mirror. Light or dark, I have a bond with you, Beast. So, how about you wear leopard ears from now on?"[6]
Koyanskaya of Light
"Much obliged for the stocking of weapons. Can I pay the bill with cacao? That's a no. What, don't make a face like it's the end of the world. Now we're fellow Assassins, let's get along."[6]

Tezcatlipoca's appearance in India.

Tezcatlipoca's appearance in India.

Travelling alongside his master to the Indian Lostbelt, Tezcatlipoca is seen dispatching some enemies in his vicinity. After recognizing Asclepius' Authority of Yama, he mumbles about how preposterous the idea of judging the dead is. Stating that life is for being offered in sacrifice and death is for being consumed, he ends by saying the laws of his world don't allow such a violation as giving freedom to the dead before having his master remind him that they are in a foreign territory, so he isn't in a position to judge. He agrees and decides to remain silent until their departure.[12]

Nahui Mictlan: Golden Sea of Trees

Tezcatlipoca serves as the primary antagonist of the South American Lostbelt alongside Daybit Sem Void, his Master and the Lostbelt's Crypter.

When the Storm Border is destroyed, Ritsuka Fujimaru falls from it and dies. They awaken in the underworld where they meet Tezcatlipoca, though he doesn't introduce himself. Tezcatlipoca tells them how much he likes weapons, and agrees to revive Fujimaru in exchange for giving him a weapon: their Command Spells. [9] These would later be handed to Camazotz as payment for changing the four underworld layers into trial realms. Tezcatlipoca also hands Fujimaru a sugar skull as a bonus.

When U-Olga Marie has a dream where she fights all of the Grand Servants at once, Tezcatlipoca appears as Grand Berserker, albeit as a Shadow Servant unlike the rest of the Grands who appear normally.[13] This is meant to showcase that he was originally Grand Berserker, before he changed classes to fill in the absent Grand Assassin class left by First Hassan.[3]

Tezcatlipoca later travels to the crash site of the Storm Border, seeking to purchase it as a weapon. When Jingle Abel Meuniere tells him that it is not for sale, Tezcatlipoca shoots him in the chest and head. Tezcatlipoca calls on the Ocelomeh to fight Chaldea, and Kadoc Zemlupus and Nitocris fight them off only for Tlaloc to arrive and nearly kill Nitocris. Tezcatlipoca moves to finish the job with Nitocris but Tlaloc advises him not to touch the blood of divinities from other mythologies. Recalling that he got sick when he ate Indians during his trip to that Lostbelt, Tezcatlipoca agrees, but he still shoots Tlaloc for not respecting his authority. Tezcatlipoca then orders his soldiers to capture Kadoc, Captain Nemo, Sion and Da Vinci, and kill the rest.[11][14][15]

Chaldea frees Nemo and Kadoc, and then attempt to stop the sacrifice of Da Vinci and Sion. Tezcatlipoca arrives to stop their efforts, and comments that he is surprised U-Olga Marie is still alive. Olga freaks out at the sight of him, calling him the one who killed her. Tezcatlipoca orders Tlaloc to fight them. Tlaloc changes her Saint Graph to Huitzilopochtli and gains the upper hand, but the fight is interrupted by Kukulkan who easily defeats Huitzilopochtli.[8]

Kukulkan came to kill Tezcatlipoca due to the decision of Malla, which proclaimed that the Lostbelt will perish if he is allowed to live. Tezcatlipoca gives Daybit the okay, and Daybit orders him with a Command Spell to wield his Authority. Tezcatlipoca brings the future into the present, showing Chaldea what will happen shortly in the future: the awakening of ORT and the end of the world. He calls it a sample of the reality that they will face in just a few more days days: first they will die, then the Lostbelt will disappear, and finally the planet will meet its end. ORT will climb to the surface, travel to Antarctica, devour CHALDEAS and destroy the world.[8]

Chaldea fails to do anything against ORT, but then Tezcatlipoca's Authority runs out of time and the present and future return to their proper places. Chaldea flees Mexico City as the Ocelomeh begin to attack them. Tezcatlipoca isn't too bothered that they lost the sacrifices, because surprises keeps things interesting. Tlaloc asks if Tezcatlipoca should have Daybit heal him after using his Noble Phantasm, but Tezcatlipoca chooses not to because Daybit needs to be in top shape for his underworld pilgrimage. Tlaloc asks him if the future he showed them was real and Tezcatlipoca affirms that it was, but it doesn't matter because there's no reason to try changing fate.[8][2][16][5][17][18][19]

Tezcatlipoca tags along for the Xōchiyāōyōtl; Izcalli's siege on Chichen Itza with the Ocelomeh. There he defeats Koyanskaya of Light when she tries to defend the Deinos. When Fujimaru and their company arrive, he challenges them to a battle, only to be interrupted by U-Olga Marie. He reveals to her that Fujimaru and the others knew she was their enemy all along, prompting her to leave distraught. He takes his leave after Izcalli shoots the Dinosaur King, who is actually the Blue Tezcatlipoca and another aspect of himself. Black Tezcatlipoca explains to Izcalli that only a Tezcatlipoca can kill another.

Tezcatlipoca accompanies Daybit on his underworld pilgrimage to the ninth layer to awaken ORT, bringing Izcalli with him. The three are waylaid at the third underworld border by a team consisting of Kadoc, Goredolf and Koyanskaya. While Daybit remains behind to deal with Chaldea, Tezcatlipoca and Izcalli move on ahead to Calakmul.

At the ninth layer, Tezcatlipoca and Izcalli reach the temple, however the pair arrive at the same time as Chaldea. Tlaloc suddenly arrives and intervenes despite suffering from heavy wounds inflicted by Camazotz, allowing Tezcatlipoca and Izcalli to proceed toward's ORT's Coffin first. There they gather to fulfill Izcalli's purpose: to sacrifice Izcalli to ORT to reawaken it. Izcalli's nursed hatred for Proper Human History will provide a guiding Order for the extraterrestrial to destroy the entire planet. Otherwise, ORT will only gnaw on the Earth for a little bit before moving on.

Tlaloc is defeated, though she begins to sympathize with Chaldea and protects them in the fall to ORT's Coffin, bringing them right back to Tezcatlipoca and Izcalli. Tezcatlipoca notices Tlaloc's sympathy and demands an explanation from her. When she hesitates, he considers her actions as a defection and intends to kill her, much to Izcalli's protestation. Tezcatlipoca points out how despite having summoned her to build Mexico City, Tlaloc -whose true identity was the spirit of Tenochtitlan- had never truly thrown her lot in with the ocelomeh. Tezcatlipoca admits he should've told Izcalli sooner. Izcalli then makes one last stand against Chaldea and loses. Tezcatlipoca notices that Izcalli was not as focused, and Izcalli replies that he has acknowledged Fujimaru's strength as superior. Tezcatlipoca respects him for giving the fight an earnest shot despite the fact that a human like him could never defeat a Servant, then steps in with the intent to fight Chaldea himself and let Izcalli awaken ORT. However Izcalli admits that he cannot do it. Despite his willingness to destroy Proper Human History, he is unwilling to destroy Mictlan with it and tries to plead for the prosperity of the Ocelomeh. Tezcatlipoca addresses Izcalli by his true name: Moctezuma II from Proper Human History, and reveals that he revived the latter to see what choices the last emperor of the Aztecs would make when given a second chance. Tezcatlipoca admits that Izcalli passed his trial with flying colours and lets Izcalli choose for himself, as a reluctant sacrifice given to ORT could never truly destroy the world. Given this fact and knowing that Izcalli will choose to reject his sacrifice, Tezcatlipoca promptly shoots Izcalli in the head. When Izcalli asks why, Tezcatlipoca explains that one must be willing to put their life on the line if they are going to give a god orders.

With Izcalli dead, Tezcatlipoca turns to Fujimaru, intending to use them as the new sacrifice to awaken ORT. When Fujimaru refuses, he changes form and engages them in battle. As he begins to gain the advantage, U-Olga Marie arrives to aid Chaldea. With her aid, Tezcatlipoca loses. With all his options expended, Tezcatlipoca willingly disappears, but not before revealing that he's bought enough time for Daybit to catch up to them and lets his Master take over from there. Daybit reveals how he possessed U-Olga Marie's heart all along, having sent Tezcatlipoca to ambush her upon her arrival in Mictlan. Tezcatlipoca used his specialty of removing living hearts to extract her's as a backup plan should Izcalli's sacrifice fail. With U-Olga Marie's heart, Daybit sacrifices himself and successfully reawakens ORT. From his underworld domain of Mictlampa, Tezcatlipoca and Daybit watch Chaldea's grueling operation to defeat ORT.

When Fujimaru collapses after the defeat of ORT Xibalba, their spirit returns once more to Mictlampa, where Tezcatlipoca and Daybit were waiting for them. They applauding Fujimaru's success at the near-impossible task defeating the alien monster. However Tezcatlipoca reveals that although Fujimaru had regained all of their Command Spells in the course of their journey through Mictlan, he never returned Fujimaru's Master Authority. Daybit decides to challenge Fujimaru to a battle. If Ritsuka wins, their Master Authority is returned to them and they are brought back to life. Should Daybit prevail, Tezcatlipoca will send him back in time to the moment he first summoned the latter, allowing Daybit to repeat the whole year once over to try his plan again. Tezcatlipoca assumes his third Ascension form and fights Fujimaru with his Master in a final duel, but ultimately they are beaten. Although Daybit chastises Tezcatlipoca for choosing to fight Fujimaru alone without summoning additional Servants to his side, he bows out gracefully. Tezcatlipoca halts Fujimaru from stopping Daybit's exit. Mictlampa is an underworld for both winners and losers in battle; a rest stop before the defeated can return to fight again. The Aztec god assures Fujimaru that the next time they see Daybit, he will fight alongside them against their true enemy. He returns Fujimaru's Master Authority to them and sends them back to the world of the living.[20]

Other appearances

In Fate/Grand Order: Fujimaru Ritsuka Doesn't Get It, Tenochtitlan and Tezcatlipoca are camping when they get interrupted by Fujimaru, Ozymandias, and Nitocris. The two groups begin to have an argument, with Tenochtitlan and Ozymandias rapidly changing the weather between rainy and sunny.

In Fate/Grand Order: Cempasúchil, Tezcatlipoca and Tenochtitlan visit modern Mexico for the Day of the Dead celebration. They speak about the ways that their homeland has changed since their time, as well as the ways that it has stayed the same.

In Fate/strange Fake, while Tsubaki Kuruoka is within Doomsday Come, she has a dream of wandering between various underworlds, guided by the bacteria that infected her body. She eventually finds herself in Tezcatlipoca's realm, where Tezcatlipoca is sitting in front of a fire. He speaks to Tsubaki in words that she can't understand, but she does notice that he switches from speaking to her to speaking to her Servant in the darkness behind her. After she realizes this, Tezcatlipoca and the fire disappear, and Tsubaki wakes up from her dream within a dream.[21]

Abilities

Tezcatlipoca is the most powerful Divine Spirit in Aztec mythology.[1][9][18] Under normal circumstances, it would be impossible to summon him as a Servant. However, he is able to avoid this restriction by manifesting as a Pseudo-Servant. In the World of Fate/Grand Order, Tezcatlipoca possesses an artificial human vessel he created himself, making it reminiscent of the avatars the Machine Gods used in Olympus. This allows him to operate independently without the need of a Master.[8]

Similarly, it is normally impossible for a Divine Spirit to be be summoned as a Grand Servant. However, in Tezcatlipoca's case, he can qualify as one thanks to possessing a human body.[3] His most compatible classes are Ruler and Berserker,[6] and he qualifies for both Grand Berserker and Grand Assassin.[6][3][22] Tezcatlipoca was originally Grand Berserker,[3] however, when King Hassan gave up his own crown, Tezcatlipoca's connection to mountains made him the only hero left qualified to take his seat.[6][3] Much to his chagrin, Tezcatlipoca agreed to step up to the post.[6][3][22] This is why Tezcatlipoca is currently summoned in Chaldea as an Assassin.[6][3]

During his brief appearance in the Indian Lostbelt, Tezcatlipoca was identified by Leonardo da Vinci as a Grand Servant, making her wonder how Daybit Sem Void had managed to form a contract with him.[12] However, in his subsequent fights in the South American Lostbelt, his game NPC version was always portrayed as a Ruler-class Servant.[5][19][20] It is unknown if this class change was caused by a continuity error, Tezcatlipoca having changed his class offscreen between both events, or due to a yet unexplained ability that is used when he undergoes a Saint Graph Ascension.[citation needed] In either case, U-Olga Marie's 3rd Planetary-Class Saint Graph Output in the Atlantic Lostbelt was stated to be second only to Goetia's, whose rank was 2nd Planetary Class. Due to this, it can be inferred that Tezcatlipoca's Grand Servant counterpart from the fourth Lostbelt was weaker than either of them.[23] Furthermore, Beryl Gut also believes Morgan to be superior to Tezcatlipoca, as he stated that with Beast VII out of the picture after the events of the fifth Lostbelt, his Lostbelt King was now the strongest being left on the planet.[24]

Daybit Sem Void claims to be afraid of Tezcatlipoca and that he has tried to avoid reprehending him because of it.[15] On the other hand, Lostbelt Camazotz states that, in Mictlan, he is stronger than Tezcatlipoca, implying that without his precious sun, Tezcatlipoca is not at full strength.[14] Similarly, Tezcatlipoca states that he would be the strongest in the Aztec world, however, in the South American Lostbelt, that title is held by Camazotz.[18] Moreover, Tezcatlipoca claims that he can't see a way of defeating Ikusautsuwa-no-Oomikami while the latter was supplied with both Kadoc Zemlupus and Goredolf Musik's Magical Energy paths.[18] Finally, Tezcatlipoca says that fighting Ritsuka Fujimaru is one thing, however, weakened U-Olga Marie is too powerful for him to handle.[8]

Authorities

Proper Human History labels Tezcatlipoca as a "god of war", however, Camazotz deems that title a disservice, claiming that there is nothing Tezcatlipoca can't do.[14] In fact, Tezcatlipoca is regarded as an omnipotent god with control over all things.[1][8][20] In some respects, this makes him a mixture of the Norse god Odin, the Greek god Zeus, the Buddhist Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, and Lucifer of Christianity. These gods (or demonic beings) are all unparalleled in the physical world, but they are not invincible in the spiritual realm, which is superior to destiny. They are similar in that, while almighty, they still have their limitations.[1] As such, Tezcatlipoca doesn't have the Authority to create anything and everything.[8] He can be considered omnipotent, but not omnisicient. He can only manipulate that which exists in the present, or events that are bound to happen. However, he can only control things that exist withing the World and not outside of it.[6] Furthermore, due to having a human body, using his authorities usually demands sacrificing one of his organs as payment.[8]

Excluding some of his Skills or Noble Phantasm, Tezcatlipoca's most prevalent Authorities are:

  • Removing Living Hearts: This is described as Tezcatlipoca's specialty. During the South American Lostbelt, Tezcatlipoca ambushed U-Olga Marie while she was recovering her energy after being overpowered by Kukulkan. With a single strike, he pulled out her heart and gave it to Daybit Sem Void.[19]
  • Immortality: It is implied that all four Tezcatlipocas are immortal, however, other fellow Tezcatlipoca's are able to bypass this invulnerability. In Black's own words, "only Tezcatlipoca can defeat Tezcatlipoca," as shown when Izcalli shot down Huitzilopochtli.[5][17]
  • Soul Summoning: In exchange for his right lung, Tezcatlipoca was able to summon Moctezuma II's Soul and keep him alive for an entire year.[19] He performed the summoning in Chiconahualóyan, a place in Mictlan equivalent to Proper Human History's Aztlán: The Land of Beginning.[17]
  • Resurrection: Tezcatlipoca is the ruler of Mictlānpa.[20] Due to this, he can revive warriors who fell in battle and made it to his domain.[9][20] However, he will only do so as part of a fair trade. Although initially wanting modern weapons, he agrees to bring Ritsuka Fujimaru back to life in exchange for his three Command Spells and his Master Authority. Due the latter's value being greater than Fujimaru's life, Tezcatlipoca gives him a sugar skull as "change", which also marks them as an unwitting participant of his trials.[9] After Fujimaru defeats ORT, he offers to resurrect the winner of the final duel between Ritsuka and Daybit Sem Void.[20]
  • Time Travel: Tezcatlipoca claims that if he revived Daybit, he could send him back in time one year to before he even summoned him.[20]

Combat

Tezcatlipoca utilizes guns due to his fondness for modern weapons as tools of war that have evolved just like life itself has.[1] His bullets are seemingly quite powerful, being able to knock out Tlaloc with just one shot. However, his aim is poor, to the point of hitting his target's heart when trying to hit their head.[11] He is embarrassingly clumsy with them, so, in combat, he normally resorts to using brutish axes, jaguar claws, and supernatural phenomena as his weapons.[1]

Tezcatlipoca initially believed that if Daybit Sem Void and him ran into Kukulkan, one of them would need to sacrifice himself to keep her at bay while the other reached ORT. However, he later considers Kukulkan's nature as an imitation of Quetzalcoatl. Due to this, he claims that he should have good compatibility against her. He claims that Kukulkan is a "newbie" and that her brute-force approach wouldn't hold a candle to his expert evasion.[18]

Skills

Class Skills

  • Warrior Tsukasa (A Rank): Titlacauan. It means “we are his slaves”. He forces his contractor to fight without a fear of death. Those who contract with Tezcatlipoca are not permitted to die of natural causes, but must instead end their lives in battle. As compensation for such a harsh covenant, he will confer vital energy to his contractor that exceeds their own limits. Improves Master's Skill functionality.[1]

Personal Skills

 featured in .

Black Sun featured in First Sun Xibalba.

  • Black Sun (EX Rank): The Sun reflected in obsidian. The omnipotent deity’s Authority to see the Future, and to manage the flow of all things. “Things not in this World” cannot be manipulated, but things “that exist in this world” are able to be rearranged at will. For example, if there was “a kingdom that will triumph, then be defeated”, it would be possible to change the order of events, and thus the conclusion, to “a kingdom that will be defeated, then triumph”. However, if his manipulations go too far against the natural order, Tezcatlipoca himself will be penalised. When the sun no longer reflects off his Obsidian Right Leg, Tezcatlipoca will lose his Divinity, becoming a normal Human.[1] There are a few variants of this ability:
    • Smoking Mirror (煙る鏡?): Tezcatlipoca can summon black smoke to protect either himself or his allies,[8][19] as shown in the fight against Huitzilopochtli.[8] The smoke not only prevents the enemy from hitting the target, but from charging up their energy as well. According to Leonardo da Vinci, it is a manifestation of his Probability Manipulation (確率変動?) Authority. It is not that the attacks don't land, but that he manipulates the events so that "even if [they] defeat him," "[they] haven't defeated him." While Tezcatlipoca isn't particularly powerful himself, this ability makes it impossible for Ritsuka Fujimaru's party to defeat him on their own.[19] The only two characters who have ever bypassed this smoke are Kukulkan, who punched right through it, knocking out Huitzilopochtli,[8] and weakened U-Olga Marie, who dispelled the entire fog giving Chaldea trouble.[19] Mash Kyrielight also believed that Black Barrel would be able to overpower it, however, she refrained from using it because the collateral damage would have collapsed the cavern they were fighting in.[19]
    • First Sun Xibalba: Tezcatlipoca can combine this Authority with his Noble Phantasm, creating a vision of the future.[8]
  • Charisma of Struggle (A Rank): Just as Quetzalcoatl has the Charisma to rouse and inspire “goodness” and “activity” in lifeforms, her rival, Tezcatlipoca, holds the Charisma to incite lifeforms. An aggressive Charisma that excites “malignance” and “conflict”. Tezcatlipoca gives favourable treatment to those warriors who are mortally wounded, yet seek to fight on, or those who have died and still try to fight.[1]
  • Heart of the Mountain (A Rank): Tepēyōllōtl. A name signifying the king of the jaguars, and also the name of a giant jaguar. In mythology, it is the exterior projection of one part of his Soul, Tezcatlipoca’s jaguar form, which killed and devoured the Giants who filled the Earth, and which crushed the hip-bones of Quetzalcoatl, who had become the Sun, causing them to fall to the ground.[1] The jaguar is the strongest and wisest sacred beast of Mesoamerica. Due to this, it is considered Tezcatlipoca's avatar.[6]

Noble Phantasm

Tezcatlipoca's Noble Phantasm is First Sun Xibalba. This Noble Phantasm fuses Tezcatlipoca's Authority as the ruler of Mictlānpa, the paradise of rest, and his era as the First Sun in the sky. He controls all physical laws of the earth's surface and can force creation to comply with the laws he decides, but he is also bound by those same laws.[1]

When Tezcatlipoca uses his Noble Phantasm, he is able to manipulate the World using his other Authorities, as shown when he used his solar eclypse in the South American Lostbelt to manifest the future where ORT destroys Mictlan:[8]

  • Solar Eclypse: Black Tezcatlipoca is an almighty deity who manipulates all creation, however, his Authority doesn't allow him to create whatever he wants. It can only "manifest anything that could possibly happen within [his] set of rules". If something will happen in the future, then he can slide around the order in which it comes to pass. This is not indefinite, there is a time limit to how long the effect lasts before the timeline returns to its correct order.[8] This time limit is directly proportionate to his "budget." The more resources he has, the longer it will be.[20] While strengthened by one Command Spell and the sacrifice of some of his internal organs, he is able to manifest ORT destroying Mexico City. This is not an illusion, but the real future events swapped out of order by manipulating the space-time continuum. However, once the vision fades away, everything returns to normal. As shown during the South American Lostbelt, once it disappeared, Captain Nemo, who had been devoured by ORT during the vision, returned back to his previous condition as if nothing had happened.[8]

Forms and Alternate Versions

Heart of the Mountain

Tezcatlipoca's second Ascension is called Heart of the Mountain and Jaguar Man.[citation needed] It is his original shape among the Maya, an imitation of the gods TohilWP (トヒル?) and K'awiillWP (カウィール?).[6]

Tohil the obsidian god of the sun, rain, and fire.[6]

On the other hand, K'awiil is a guardian deity of the Maya, and snake god who rules over rain, thunder, and the harvest. K'awiil granted maize to mortals as a source of food. Furthermore, it is also considered the flesh of a god.[6]

Abilities

In this form, Tezcatlipoca's Spirit Origin, principle, and alignment are different. Mash Kyrielight implies that it must be one of Tezcatlipoca's three remaining aspects: Red, Blue, or White. Tezcatlipoca agrees that she is on the right track, only noting that he will never transform into White due to his animosity towards her.[5]

Combat

Tezcatlipoca completely outmatched and defeated Koyanskaya of Light.[5][17] However, Koyanskaya claims that it was only due to her lacking a Master supplying her Magical Energy at the time. If she had one, things would have gone very differently.[17]

When Mash Kyrielight and Ritsuka Fujimaru first confronted him, the former adviced the latter to summon the most powerful Heroic Spirits at his disposal. While the situation seemed desperate, U-Olga Marie's sudden plasma attack managed to push back Tezcatlipoca.[5] In their final confrontation, Novum Chaldea was completely outmatched by Tezcatlipoca's Smoking Mirror. However, once again thanks to U-Olga Marie's intervention, they were able to turn around the situation. U-Olga Marie, despite still being weakened due to lacking a heart, was able to dispel Tezcatlipoca's entire smoke with a single attack. She then defeated and killed him with the help of Chaldea, however, she noted that whether they helped or not wouldn't have made a difference.[19]

Notable Skills:

Mictlānpa's Ruler

Tezcatlipoca's third Ascension is no longer a part of Black Tezcatlipoca, but rather, his form as the ruler of Mictlānpa, the resting place for warriors who died in battle.[6][20]

Development

Tezcatlipoca was first mentioned in Quetzalcoatl's profile in Fate/Grand Order material IV, released in 2017. Daybit's Servant first appeared in 2019 but his identity as Tezcatlipoca wasn't revealed until 2022.

Tezcatlipoca wasn't originally planned to have such a large role in Nahui Mictlan; his screentime was originally about the same as Camazotz. His role grew larger as Kinoko Nasu learned more about Latin America and what kind of god Tezcatlipoca was, as well as once he saw Tajima Shou's design.[3]

Creation and Conception

Tezcatlipoca was designed by Tajima Shou in Fate/Grand Order.[26] Tajima met Takashi Takeuchi over lunch one day, which led to his first work for Type-Moon: an illustration of Gilgamesh for Fate/stay night's 15th anniversary. Some time after that Takeuchi was contacted by Tajima's manager with a formal request to work with him again.[3]

Tezcatlipoca's First Ascension design went through several minor revisions, while his Second Ascension came out pretty much exactly like Nasu wanted. For the Third Ascension Nasu and Takeuchi told Tajima to go nuts and design whatever he wanted, which resulted in a giant skeleton mecha design. It was too big to be used as a playable character so they asked Tajima to go back to the drawing board, but the skeleton mecha was used for his Noble Phantasm.[3]
