Profile
Identity
Galahad was placed inside the resurrected body of a girl who died in the Great Fire of Fuyuki at the end of the Fourth Holy Grail War. Ernest Gravehill, a necromancer, performs this ritual to help reduce magical energy expenditure while summoning Galahad as his Servant.
Personality
Shielder initially displays no personality, being like a robot who follows her Master Ernest's instructions. The two personalities of Tachie and Galahad emerge as time progresses, and she becomes increasingly savage as she regains her identity. Tachie's personality switches randomly with Galahad's, making it seem as if she has a double persona. She holds a grudge against Shirou Emiya because she felt that he abandoned her when she called for help in the fire.
Role
The plot outlined in Fate/unpublished material describes first an anime series similar to the Fate route but featuring Tachie and her Master as the seventh Servant instead of Sasaki Kojirou, and then a movie that would have an original route highlighting Tachie's backstory.
Ernest and Shielder would have made their first appearance when Shirou, Artoria, and Rin Tohsaka first visited the Fuyuki Church. They were already present at the church by the time Shirou, Rin, and Artoria arrived. At some point Ernest would have dropped out of the Grail War, leaving Shielder as a Masterless Servant wandering Fuyuki.
In the anime series, Tachie would have died to Gilgamesh after he interrupted a battle between her and Artoria. The movie would have ended with Tachie coming to terms with her death and Shirou's survival, and saving Shirou before disappearing.[1]
Abilities
Her Noble Phantasms are Around Round Shield and Lord Camelot. Her Lord Camelot is different from the finalized version which Mash Kyrielight would use in Fate/Grand Order.
Development
Creation and Conception
The Stray Servant, planned for the original visual novel.
Known as the Stray Servant (はぐれ サーヴァント, Hagure Sāvanto?), Shielder was a heroine candidate during the development of Fate/stay night who was left unused in the final version. She was considered along with Medusa and Medea to be a possible heroine, but she was cut due to the plot beginning to stray so as to keep it manageable for the player. As Artoria is a "Servant of the Sword", she was to be her rival as a Shielder, "Servant of the Shield."[2] She would have been an "abandoned puppy" type heroine who killed her Master during the Fourth Holy Grail War and went on a rampage, surviving into the Fifth Holy Grail War in a similar manner to Gilgamesh.[3]
Her scrapped role for the visual novel was originally only detailed in Fate/side material, but later it was planned that she would be a character in what was to be the original story of Studio DeenWP's Fate/stay night adaptation. Her character design by Takashi Takeuchi was completed at that time, but the anime was later changed to an adaptation of the Fate route and the character was again abandoned. There was a plan for an anime original film featuring the character, but the storyline and designs went unused.[1] Despite the scrapped plans, the mention of a Stray Servant is mentioned by Artoria in Episode 17, just prior to Shirou and Artoria heading out to Ryuudou Temple.
The design was later revived for Grand Order in 2015 for Kinoko Nasu to allow her to be one of the main heroines along with Artoria and Jeanne d'Arc, thus becoming Mash Kyrielight.[4] Tachie's version of Lord Camelot, which fired beams from its walls, would inspire Galahad's second Noble Phantasm in Fate/Grand Order, High Road Camelot.[5]
The notes from the anime original film were collected and revised in the Fate/unpublished material booklet released on the fifteenth anniversary of Fate/stay night in 2019.

A heroine candidate that vanished without a trace during the plotting stage.
She was conceived of as an "abandoned puppy" type heroine, who killed her Master and went on a rampage.
As a Servant of the shield, she was going to be a rival to Saber, the Servant of the sword, but…
Just like Gilgamesh, she would have been a Servant that had remained behind after the previous Grail War.
Unfortunately, though, she had to be cut for the sake of keeping things manageable for the player.
After all, around this point, the plot itself was starting to stray. Not only Rider, but even Caster was a potential heroine candidate. It was terrifyingly chaotic.
Hmm? Fuji-nee? I don't know what you're talking about, Fuji-nee never had a main route even during the plotting stage.

Grand Order 4Gamer interview 4Gamer: So it really is a shield, then. Did you design her, Takeuchi-san?
Takeuchi: Yes. But that shield girl's design existed before this project began.
Nasu: It never came to be, but when Studio DEEN made their "stay night" anime, it was originally planned to have an original story. This heroine was formally made back then. We felt it was a waste to keep her locked away like that, and she fit right into the story of "FGO", so we decided to make her the main heroine this time around.
4Gamer: So, is her true identity to be revealed at a later date?
Takeuchi: It's too early (laugh). Trying to figure out a heroic spirit's true name-- their identity, is a big part of the enjoyment of "Fate".
Nasu: In "FGO's" case, the servant's identity becomes revealed once players get their hands on them. So I'd be happy if all the players would do their best to avoid spoilers.4Gamer:
- ↑ Famitsu - Fate/Grand Order 10th anniversary interview with Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi - Translated by Comun
