MetatronWP Jeanne (メタトロンWP・ジャンヌWP, Metatoron Jan'nu?), Class Name Ruler (ルーラー, Rūrā?), is a Ruler-class Servant summoned by Dante Alighieri in the Reckoning Singularity and later summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Profile
Identity
A high-ranking Angel who is the ascended form of the human EnochWP (エノク?), a righteous man and a seventh-generation descendant of Adam.[1] He is God's right hand, known as "Little God"[1] or "One Who Attends God".[4] The scribe of Heaven, and the executor of God's will.[5]
The origin of the name is unclear, but one theory suggests that it comes from "Metatronios", a combination of the Greek words "μετὰ (behind)" and "θρóνος (throne)", together meaning "one who serves behind the throne" or "one who occupies the throne next to the throne of glory". (There are other popular theories, but no conclusive answer exists as to the origin of the name.)[1]
Jeanne d'Arc is a French Saint, and this time, she serves as the "outer layer", with the Archangel Metatron as the "inner layer". However, Angels are power itself, and do not have personalities or emotions.[1]
In Jewish folklore, Metatron is said to be the representative of God who sits upon the throne. In some apocrypha, it is written that "He was born human, but was blessed with the form of an angel when he was told to walk with God and stand before Him forever." Metatron was Moses' guide, and according to some, it was through this guidance that that man was able to produce the miracle that would become the most famous legend in the Book of Exodus, when the sea itself was parted through the power of God in order to create a dry road.[1]
In the World of Magecraft, all angels, not just Metatron, are nothing more than vessels of power. The accumulated myths of angels eventually gave birth to the powerful Metatron, but only as a sort of Craft Essence. However, due to its excessive power, the Craft Essence was deemed a failure.[1]
When Jeanne d'Arc equipped the Craft Essence, she awakened as Metatron. While she lost most of her humanity in the process, Metatron, who should have manifested as a "perfect angel who mechanically judges humanity", for some reason manifested as a "lazy archangel who lazily judges humanity". The form summoned to Chaldea is a combination of the former and the latter aspects, and her attitude changes when she manifests in her second ascension.[1]
A lazy, useless angel who lazes around and doesn't move a single step from her throne.[1]
Appearance
She appears slightly younger than the regular Jeanne (but not as young as Lily) being shorter, lighter, and with a smaller chest. Her eyes are golden instead of Jeanne's blue.
Personality
First Ascension
A serious, reliable class president-type. She still retains some of her more human tendencies, with her girlish and cheerful nature occasionally coming through. You could say that this is the serious side of a younger Jeanne coming to the surface.[1]
Second Ascension
When Metatron manifested in Jeanne, a human, he was forced to experience the Seven Deadly Sins. He cast off the sin of sloth, which manifested as her second ascension. As a result of being cast off from her original self and embodying the sin of sloth, she is lazy, spiritually burdened,[Note 1] and quite slothful.[1]
Third Ascension
A transcendent Divine Spirit Servant close to God. She prides herself on being perfect and complete and conducts herself with dignity befitting of her words and actions. This is thought to be the strongest reflection of her existence as Archangel Metatron.[1]
Relationships
First Ascension
- Amour / Ciel (Servant) / Grigori Rasputin
- "Oh my, there are priests in active service here? Then I, as a fellow agent of the Lord, should like to greet them. Perhaps I could visit them, or speak with them in their dreams. Of course, I would also like to learn what kind of faith they hold in their dreams."[6]
- Martha
- "Saint Martha... I see. There are indeed quite a lot of things to admire about your faith and your fists. However, as the saying goes, 'The Pen is mightier than the Sword', so I do believe I am stronger! Probably."[6]
- Amakusa Shirou Tokisada
- "Amakusa Shirou, your spirit of martyrdom is truly admirable. I was a little concerned about your habit of clinging to Holy Grails, but if your wish is for world peace, then there's no problem! Your spirit deserves recognition, so I will confer upon you the Metatron Award!"[6]
Second Ascension
- Amakusa Shirou Tokisada
- "Amakusa Shirou is here too, huh. How was he? Was he a Ruler seeking the Holy Grail? Hmm, I see. He even challenged the other me. That guy's the super patient type, huh."[6]
- Ashoka
- "King Ashoka? Huh, guess you're here too. Well, how are things going? Think Chaldea's fun? If so, then that's great. Either way though, as long as King Ashoka's here, I can slack off... No? Aw..."[6]
- Dante Alighieri
- "Oh, there's Dante. About the singularity... ah, you don't remember? Well, just to be sure, I'll tell you anyway: I have no connection to Beatrice, and that girl never got summoned. 'Could it be, that you are Beatrice?' Definitely not Beatrice, dude. 'Not even a 1% chance?' No."[6]
- James Moriarty (Ruler)
- "The younger Moriarty... in that singularity, he was a lawyer that always got into trouble with Dante. I kinda missed him a bit. So he turns into some kind of super crime lord in Europe when he grows up? Wow, you really never know what a person's like..."[6]
- Lilith
- "Wow, Lilith's here too? Eh?! Do you by any chance still have your memories?! Ah, so you do. To think that she'd become an ally after all she did... Chaldea's either super generous, or Master's just got a real big heart. Either way though, you shouldn't rely too much on Master's kindness, you know?"[6]
Third Ascension
- Amakusa Shirou Tokisada
- "Ah, there is Amakusa Shirou. I would quite like to hear of that man's story again. Regrettable. Truly, a pity. Though perhaps I should not be the one to say that."[6]
- Dante Alighieri
- "Dante Alighieri... in that case, I will have to lecture him again. Creating a singularity for the person he loves... such love is truly worthy of praise and respect, but that is that and this is this."[6]
- James Moriarty (Ruler)
- "Oh my, so James Moriarty is here too? You may not be that courageous lawyer, but his courage and strength still exist in your eyes. Even without him, they are there. You are not simply someone who has lost something. You understand that yourself, do you not?"[6]
- Lilith
- "Oh? I see Lilith is here as well. Well then: preparing Noble Phantasm. Hm? What's wrong? Is it not natural for me to be on guard after having been struck down from behind? Oh, I am not angry at all. I'm not. It would be quite a big deal were I to get angry. Anyway... preparing Noble Phantasm."[6]
Role
Fate/Grand Order
Courtroom for the Judgment of Mankind: Trinity Metatronius
Dante Alighieri attempted to summon Beatrice PortinariWP however that failed and Metatron Jeanne was summoned in her stead.[1] The end result was a Divine Spirit whose body was constructed using the materials from Beatrice's would-be Spirit Origin to form Jeanne d'Arc as the 'exterior' with Metatron as the 'interior'. In the process of doing this, Metatron also inherited Beatrice's strong emotions such as love but refuses to consider herself and Beatrice as the same individual.[3]
Abilities
Within the Reckoning Singularity, Metatron Jeanne was summoned after being sent out by the Human Order;[7] being given charge over the Planet's resources in holding for the creation of the next Prime Species.[8] Furthermore, she took hold of the Holy Grail from Dante Alighieri, powering herself up and utilizing it to alter the Singularity. Then she took control of the Singularity, allowing her to govern nearly everything within, including the laws of reality, utilizing Galahad as the core to maintain the Singularity. Within the Reckoning Singularity, Metatron Jeanne's Spirit Origin is labeled on par with Tiamat.[8] When Amakusa Shirou created a Holy Grail Dagger out of the Holy Grail drops that had been brought to him and the remnants of his power as a Ruler, he noted that while the weapon could lift the combat prohibition instated by Metatron, the Holy Grail would unable to erase the Reckoning Singularity due to Metatron's power being superior to the grail itself.[9]
Skills
Class Skills
- Independent Manifestation (Angel) (EX Rank): A skill that allows one to manifest in the world without outside help. Strictly speaking, this is not the same as the Beast version of the skill Independent Manifestation. This Angel can appear wherever the concept of an angel has arisen. Furthermore, Metatron themself possesses extraordinary power.[1]
- Throne Creation (EX Rank): The name Metatron is said to be rooted in the greek word "Metatronios (One Who Sits Upon the Throne)". Metatron, who is given the authority to act and speak on behalf of God, can sit on the throne and exercise unparalleled power as long as she sits there.[1]
- Divine Core of the Archangel (B Rank): A sub-species of the Divinity skill. She is born perfect. However, the rank of this skill is reduced by her evil nature of Sloth.[1]
- Bestowal of Seven Sins (Sloth) (A Rank): One of the evil traits that remained when she descended upon Jeanne d'Arc. In exchange for improved resistance against mental effects, resistance to sleep is reduced.[1] As a result of splitting off this aspect from herself, she regressed into an imperfect pseudo-Divine Spirit until that aspect remerged with her.[3]
Personal Skills
- True Name 72 (A Rank): According to some, Metatron is associated with the number/name 72. Not only does this prevent the disadvantageous effects of one's true name being revealed, it also automatically deflects all curses, including bindings via Command Seals, Magecraft, and even Noble Phantasms that track specific targets.[1]
- Angel of Contracts (B+ Rank): One of Metatron's angelic powers. She can make a contract with someone and enact various miracles in order to protect and fulfill said contract. However, if the contract is broken, she will be weakened.[1]
- Absolute Agent (EX Rank): Metatron is also said to be the agent of God. They have an exceptionally large body, with feet that stand upon the soil and a head that reaches the heavens. Their overwhelming size, and the strength that comes with it, far surpasses the superhuman strength of demonic beasts.[1]
Noble Phantasm
Metatron Jeanne's Noble Phantasms are Saint-du-mont Pilier and Univers Immortel Metatron.
She also possesses a third unnamed Noble Phantasm that was used to trap Mash in her womb, a fourth Noble Phantasm which is the 'crown' or Authority that allows her to control all of the Angels within the Reckoning Singularity, and a fifth Noble Phantasm which utilizes a miracle allowing attacks beyond a Singularity.[10][11]
After Shielder Paladin Mash manages to block Univers Immortel Metatron with Lord Chaldeas, Metatron claims to possess a near-infinite variety of Noble Phantasms to choose from. A feat unprecedented for a Servant.[3]
Development
Metatron Jeanne was teased twice before her introduction:
- At the ending of Ordeal Call II, as Jeanne Alter is leaving Chaldea, she tells the regular Jeanne to look after Lily and to punch "the other one" on Alter's behalf, hinting that there was a fourth Jeanne Servant in Chaldea. Takashi Takeuchi was asked if that comment meant he was the artist for a new Jeanne variant. He stated, "I’m not drawing one, but look forward to the reveal of what this line means."[12]
- In the 2024 Christmas event, one of the people in Phantasmoon's stream chat was a Ruler-class Servant who said they lived in Florence, Italy (the place where the Reckoning Singularity is located).
Creation and Conception
Metatron Jeanne was designed by Ototsugu Konoe in Fate/Grand Order.
Notes
- ↑ Translation refined from the original Japanese text: 「怠惰、堕落、不精者」. While “堕落” can imply moral decline, it does not carry the strong connotation of “corruption” in English. Here it refers to spiritual or emotional deterioration caused by failed synchronization with Metatron, not Jeanne’s own moral failing.
