Subspecies Singularity III: Shimosa
Raikou was summoned by Amakusa Shirou Tokisada to serve as one of the Heroic Spirit Swordmasters.[2] Her Cursed Name is Rider of Kālasūtra Hell.[3] She slew her horse, Kyōgoku, shortly after becoming a Swordmaster.[4]
She and her fellow Swordmasters first encounter Ritsuka’s party as they tried to cut through a bamboo forest to reach Onui and Tasuke’s hermitage. She blocks Miyamoto Musashi’s attack that was aided by her Heavenly Eye. Shuten comments on Musashi being still alive after crossing swords with Raikou to mean the people of the Tokugawa era aren’t totally worthless. Raikou refutes this saying the only decent people in the Tokugawa era are children. She tells Shuten to commit suicide to atone for her lapse in judgement. She is surprised to hear that Ritsuka recognizes hers and Shuten’s voices. Soon afterwards, Raikou and her fellows watch Houzouin Inshun fight Yagyuu Munenori alone to let the others escape. This is followed by Ashiya Douman infusing Inshun with the Curse of Annihilation to become the final Swordmaster: Lancer of Purgatorio.[3]

Raikou later slaughters an army near Arakawa River while they were en route to rendezvous with Munenori. She only spared a young soldier left mentally broken by the slaughter, believing he’d make a poor sacrifice. She and Shuten then depart for Sagami to unleash the latter’s Noble Phantasm upon it. Katou Danzou reminds them though that they weren’t ordered to do so, but they ignore her. They proceed to Sagami and destroy it with Shuten’s Noble Phantasm. Afterwards, they massacred larger settlements until high noon, only sparing smaller settlements because they vanished by then.[1]
Ordered by Douman,[4] Raikou and Shuten take Onui and Tasuke hostage. Musashi attacks Shuten, but Raikou blocks it. The Swordmasters then overwhelm the group using only a fraction of their power. Raikou tells them to come to the peak of the nearby mountain before high noon if they wish to save the children. She and Shuten then escape.[1]
On the summit Raikou threatens to kill Shuten if she tries to eat a child in front of her when the latter threatens to eat Onui. She explains to a confused Onui that she could never kill a child, nor let one die in front of her. She commends Onui for doing her best to keep Tasuke safe. Then she tearfully apologizes for taking her and her brother hostage, saying all Swordmasters are broken. Some time later, she kicks Shuten off the summit.[4]
Later that night, Onui cries herself to sleep. Raikou sings her lullaby as Onui joins in her sleep. She stops and fully wakes up upon accidentally calling Raikou mom. Raikou understands Onui misses her mother, saying it’s expected for her to confuse another long-haired woman for her mother sometimes. She then cuts the children free and places them in a nearby shrine. She then leaves to fight Ritsuka’s party, lying to the children that she’s going to talk to them.[5]

Ritsuka’s party demand she and Shuten return the children. They doubt Shuten’s claims that she ate them, and slay the Orochi she summoned. Afterwards, Shuten and Raikou bring Musashi to the bloody battlefield for their fight. After Shuten disappears, Raikou tells the group where she placed the children, confirming that they are safe and unharmed. She asks Muramasa to apologize to Onui for her, for tying her up, and getting a little rough when she cut her ropes. She also asks the group to defeat the Swordmasters and prevent the Onriedo’s arrival. Then, calling herself a disgrace of a mother, Raikou disappears.[5]
Abilities
Rider of Kālasūtra Hell's True Name is Minamoto-no-Raikou, one of the fiercest monster slayers ever.[1] However, her signature trait is her nature as Ushi Gozen, an Oni side to her. While Shuten-douji is more overtly oni than Raikou, oni blood still runs through both of their veins. Furthermore, Fuuma Kotarou believes that it may have an influence on their behaviour as Heroic Spirit Swordmasters.[4] Kālasūtra Hell is overwhelmingly powerful when it comes to taking on large groups.[1][5] During the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, she killed 10,244 soldiers gathered on the east bank of the Arakawa River.[1] Nevertheless, Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell states that she wouldn't dare mess with Saber of Empireo or Caster of Limbo with her "weak little" Saint Graph, and she doubts that Kālasūtra Hell would either. If they had to fight them, Shuten would like to at least have the same bodies and power that they did when they were alive. On the other hand, Amakusa Shirou Tokisada states that if Sasaki Kojirou were to fight the group that defeated Kālasūtra and Saṃghāta Hell during the Shimosa Singularity, it would be over too quickly, implying that he is vastly stronger than the two Swordmasters combined.[5]
Combat
Raikou pushing back Musashi.
Just like the other Heroic Spirit Swordmasters, Rider of Kālasūtra Hell was stronger than Miyamoto Musashi by the start of the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, prior to her reaching the Void. During their first encounter, she parried Musashi's Heavenly Eye, the best attack she had, as if it was nothing.[3] During their second meeting, she casually deflected a surprise attack from Musashi aimed at Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell with a single flick of her wrist. While the attack nearly took Saṃghāta's head out, Kālasūtra claims that it was nothing special, and that she simply swung her sword as she saw fit. As the two fought, the tremendous force of Kālasūtra's strikes overwhelmed Musashi. The latter attributed it to the difference in their bodyweights and claimed that she wouldn't have been able to keep pace without Senji Muramasa's finest katana: Myoujingiri Muramasa. Furthermore, despite Kālasūtra only using a fraction of her power, her attacks were so strong that Katou Danzou couldn't measure them.[1]
While Miyamoto Musashi regards both Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell and Rider of Kālasūtra Hell as incredible warriors, she claims that they are not equally skilled.[1] Saṃghāta likes to play around, so Fuuma Kotarou, Senji Muramasa, and Musashi should be able to handle her if they rushed at her all at once, however, that definitely wouldn't work on Kālasūtra.[5] Kālasūtra excels at taking large armies,[1][5] so the only way to defeat her is to best her in a head-on-test of skill.[5] During her final confrontation against Musashi, the latter finally learned how to cut karma itself. This wasn't an ability granted by Myoujingiri Muramasa, but a result of Musashi finally reaching her own true power: the Void. While she hadn't been able to perceive Karma when she fought Lancer of Purgatorio, Saṃghāta's and Kālasūtra's were too easy to see. Musashi may have had a long way to go, but even she could see how completely her karma had stagnated. Despite being physically stronger than Musashi and having blocked Myoujingiri's final strike, Kālasūtra lost. While Musashi's better proficiency in one-on-duels could be to blame, the actual determining factor was that Musashi had experience battling others who were stronger than Kālasūtra.[5]
Despite being former enemies, Rider of Kālasūtra Hell and Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell have great synergy fighting together. During the fight on Senji Muramasa's household, they always worked together to deflect Fuuma Kotarou's and Katou Danzou's sneak attacks whenever they tried to get close. While Muramasa, Miyamoto Musashi, Kotarou, and Danzou might have been able to handle one at a time, together, they were completely outmatched. It was only thanks to Musashi making up the difference with her Myoujingiri Muramasa that they still had a chance.[1]
Swordmaster Abilities
As a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster granted the Curse of Annihilation, Kālasūtra possesses the following abilities:
- Immortality: Kālasūtra can heal all her wounds unless her Spiritual Core is cut with Myoujingiri Muramasa.
- Evil Spirit summoning[1]
- Unnamed Skill: Kālasūtra possesses a unique Skill that allows her to vanish from the battlefield instantly. Fuuma Kotarou can't figure out the particulars, but he claims that it's similar to Presence Concealment.[1]
- Unnamed Bounded Field: Kālasūtra can use powerful Magecraft resembling a Reality Marble. It creates a battlefield made out of corpses that consumes the Soul of the loser after a fight.[5]
Noble Phantasm
When summoned as a Rider-Class Servant, Minamoto-no-Raikou has access to a horse Noble Phantasm. However, after becoming a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster, Rider of Kālasūtra Hell killed it. She claims that she didn't need it because it wasn't embedded with the Curse of Annihilation.[4]
In combat, she wields the sword Yasutsuna.[1]
