OsakabehimeWP (刑部姫WP, Osakabehime?), Class Name Assassin (アサシン, Asashin?), is an Assassin-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Identity
Osakabehime (who is mentioned in “Saikaku Shokoku Banashi” as the apparition who haunted the Saga Prefecture’s Palace, and named in “Konjaku Gazu Zoku HyakkiWP” as “The One with the Great Wall”), a yokaiWP once enshrined as the ruler deity of HimejiWP. Nowadays, she settles in the keep of Himeji CastleWP, and is renowned as the famous castle-ghost.[1]
Truthfully speaking, originally when she lived 300 years ago, she was a “fox”. But in this meta-only SNS Age, she receive a "refreshing" reply from a certain fox-type housewife Servant, "you are already defeated in the race to claim the fox role!" (paraphrased). As such, Osakabehime was summoned as a bat-motif servant.[1]

Personality
Being a shut-inWP is as sweet as nectar itself, internet mail-orders are the Apples of Eden, and binge-shopping e-books and painted figurines brought refreshing feelings resembling a nice pond. Real-life friends are nonexistent to her.[1]
At first glance, she’s just a neat and tidy, black-haired young maiden. However, if one looks past the surface, her self-abasing, gloomy nature can be annoying. She assumes the air of a princess and tries to act like one, but since her interpersonal communication skills are severely limited, she can’t talk much beyond the cliché templates lines. When her wickedness comes into question, the only thing that can be felt is a mere misdemeanor of a minor scoundrel after all. At worst, she uses credit cards to shop as she pleases.[1]
She thinks removing glasses is the kind of move a princess would do. It doesn't matter if the place is gloomy as hell, she'll still remove her glasses.[1]
In the English version Osakabehime has a habit of mixing together English and Japanese words, such as "kudastop" and "chigawrong".
Relationships
- Kiyohime
- "Oh, it's Kiyohi. You still doing that stalking? You're after Anchin-sama? Hmm, so Master-chan is Anchin-sama... that's... quite the twist."[2]
- She met her through Tamamo.
- "She may be older than me but I have the upper hand as a princess, there's nothing to fear!" or so she thought, but she eventually came to know of Kiyohime's Kiyohime-ness and started going "Kiyohime, so scary..."
- She formed her own doujin group 'Princess x2' with her, and they work on doujinshi in many different genres.[1]
- "Ah. Kiyohi, yahoo. Eh? My manuscript? Oh. Doing well. I really have it so it’s doing well. Eh? You can know it’s a lie even without licking my sweat? Ri~ght...Hyaah!!"[2]
- Tamamo-no-Mae
- "What's this, it's Tamamocchi who plundered the kitsune seat from me. Truth be told, I was a kitsune too, but overlapping characters is a big no-no in the servant world. Well, bats are cool, so that's fine."[2]
- They once had this huge argument about how one of them had already called dibs on being the fox character, or whether one of them was the original, etc. and they ended up causing huge trouble and dragging an entire online forum into it. This incident is still the stuff of legend. After having lost the argument, Osakabehime ended up dropping her fox element and adopted a bat element when being summoned!
- "Just looking at her she seems to exude this incredible normie aura, but I also feel like there's something oddly off about her, like she carries a very unfortunate air around her due to carrying some huge weight on her shoulders~♪ I guess being strong and famous isn't all that great after all..."[1]
- Miyamoto Musashi
- "Geh! Musashi-chan! Ah, no wait, weren't you a man? Woman? ... Well whatever. Hmph! Just so you know, I'm properly doing my job by holing myself in!"[2]
- ...Back when she was having trouble with other youkai who lived in Himeji castle, they all suddenly ran away once Miyamoto Musashi decided to stay in the castle for a while.
- "T-Thanks for that...Huh? Wait were they a man, or a woman? Aaaah at any rate they're scary! The force of their smile is too much!"[1]
- Miyamoto Musashi (Swimsuit)
- "Uwawa! Even Musashi-chan has a swimsuit?! But what’s with that uselessly outstanding style? And in top of that, not only a swimming swimsuit, but following with Western style, that’s why natural geniuses are...! You’re being pushy even without it being your aim! But... That side is cool.. Hihi"[2]
- Murasaki Shikibu
- She feels like she doesn't stand a chance when faced with a true genius. Also she feels like their characters overlap!
- -Literature
- -They're both gloomy
- -Glasses
- -Japanese
- Princess check, done!
- But still, she does respect her as a fellow author[1]
- Minamoto no Yoshitsune
- Yoshitsune was the wielder of the rainmaking relic Hatsune no Tsuzumi that was made using her parents. Genkurougitsune followed Yoshitsune out of love for his parents and eventually received the relic from Yoshitsune. It is said that Genkurougitsune was so moved by this that later on he saved Yoshitsune from danger many times. And Genkurougitsune is indeed Osakabehime's little brother.
- "Ahhh but having seen Ushiwakamaru in Chaldea I can't help but feel she did it while thinking something like...'Well the Minamoto house didn't need some rainmaking relic, so I gave it to this random fox'..."
- (from the joruri 'Yoshitsune Senbonzakura')[1]
- Artoria Pendragon (Swimsuit)
- "Kya! A big-wig, a big-wig is here! Bunny, gorgeous, celebrity! Ahh, how dazzling... Let me worship her, let me worship her...Ah, somehow she's making an odd face, uwah!"[2]
- Glass Wearing Servants
- "Come to think of it, there are other servants wearing glasses, right? Ah, quite a few of them. Hmm... which do you think is best for me?"[2]
- Kitchen Servants
- "Er... People of the food team... Is there any food with low calories, that makes you feel full, can be well digested, is highly nourishing, makes you lose weight just by eating it, and on top of that is tasty?"[2]
- Swimsuit Servants
- "Uh, there are many other swimsuit Servants... I-I don’t lose to them...? I, don’t lose to them...? I don’t lose to them... Hey? Hey?! I don’t lose at all...? Yay!"[2]
Role
Fate/Grand Order
Subspecies Singularity III: Shimosa
Prior to meeting Ritsuka Fujimaru, Miyamoto Musashi met Osakabehime.[3][4] She mentions having fought a bat monster in Himeji Castle during her travels.[4]
Halloween Event: Halloween Strike! Devil's Building Climber
By sheer luck, Osakabehime finds a Holy Grail, and true to her shut-in nature, wishes she could be holed up inside it. Her wish, however, transports her and her home, Himeji Castle, to Csejte. There it is stacked atop Ozymandias' upside-down pyramid, which is already stacked on Castle Csejte. Seeing that no one works on Halloween, Osakabehime realizes Csejte would be perfect for her if it were always Halloween.
Beneath Castle Csejte, she discovered the guardian statue of Csejte and modified it into a giant robot version of Elizabeth Bathory using parts ordered from Amazoness.com. Then, needing a terminal to control the Guardian of Csejte, she created Mecha Eli-chan using parts ordered from Amazoness.com and the vestiges of Elizabeth's Heroic Spirit in Csejte. Mecha Eli-chan's Spirit Origin was then stabilized by Elisa Particles. But for whatever reason, Osakabehime removed Mecha Eli-chan's heart circuit. Afterward, she built Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II and a factory to mass-produce her with parts ordered from Amazoness.com. Mecha Eli-chan went rogue, however, and conquered Csejte as per her primary directive to protect it. Osakabehime was thus forced to flee from the castle. Along the way, she meets Elizabeth, who's fleeing from her own knights who now serve Mecha Eli-chan.
Continuing to flee, Osakabehime runs into Ritsuka, followed by Elizabeth. After the knights are subdued, Elizabeth and Osakabehime ask Ritsuka to retake their castles from Mecha Eli-chan. Mecha Eli-chan herself then appears and gives the princesses another chance to surrender and show remorse for their sloven ways. If they do, she will show mercy by letting them repaint their castles as part of their one-year compulsory labor sentence. They refuse, so Mecha Eli-chan fires at Elizabeth, but Osakabehime defends her with her origami. The group fights Mecha El-chan to no avail. She leaves, telling the group they need to climb if they wish to reach Himeji Castle.
Ritsuka, Elizabeth, and Osakabehime fly up on her giant origami crane while Yan Qing climbs. They soon enter Castle Csejte to find the stairs to the upper floors are all blocked. They defeat Carmilla, but Wu Zetian has her retreat with her. After they leave, the group moves onto the pyramid.
In the pyramid, Ritsuka's party is confronted by Wu Zetian, Carmilla, and Cleopatra. After defeating them, Elizabeth asks Osakabehime if she’ll be able to remove her castle once they retake it. Osakabehime lies that she doesn't know how it happened. Elizabeth figures they can find a Grail fragment to remove Himeji Castle.
Entering Himeji Castle, the group finds that Mecha Eli-chan has redecorated it. She explains the folding screen is a mural that depicts how unfit Elizabeth is to be Csjete’s ruler. She then tries to destroy the group, primarily Elizabeth. The group nearly defeats her until she starts charging Breast Zero Erzsébet. Fortunately, they incapacitate her.
Afterward, Osakabehime shows the others her room. She finds her Grail and reveals her wish is to be a shut-in forever. Himeji Castle was summoned into Csjete in response. She then uses the Grail to awaken the Guardian of Csjete and call forth Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II. She orders her to expel the others from her castle. With Guardian's support, she defeats Ritsuka's party. She tells them to go back to Chaldea, except for Elizabeth, for whom she has “special plans”. Elizabeth thinks "special plans" means losing her chastity. Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II quickly muffles her and prepares to expel Ritsuka and Yan Qing from the castle on Osakabehime's order. Ritsuka and Yan Qing escape, however.
Later, Osakabehime prepares to use the castle's reactor to absorb Elizabeth's Elisa Particles to empower the Guardian of Csjete. It could then remove Csjete Pyramid Himeji Castle from history, granting Osakabehime’s wish for eternal isolation. An alarm then sounds to indicate the others have returned, so Osakabehime leaves to deal with them.
She confronts Ritsuka's party at her castle and sics knights, who she promised to give paid leave if they pretend to be brainwashed, on them. But the knights are easily defeated, for which Osakabehime reprimands them for not even trying. She denies them paid leave and retreats using a secret passageway in her room. To her surprise, though, Ritsuka's party easily catches up. She calls Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II for help, but the robot girl refuses. With no other choice, Osakabehime fights the group with the Guardian of Csejte. She is soon forced to retreat and takes an elevator back down to her factory.
She welcomes the group when they arrive and explains the factory's function. She tries again to justify what she is doing, though Ritsuka and Mecha Eli-chan notice she has doubts about what she is doing. But she refuses to abandon her plan and sics the mass-produced Mecha Eli-chan Mk.IIs on the group. The group destroys the robots, so Osakabehime retreats to the castle's reactor chamber. Ritsuka's party follows after her.
Osakabehime is surprised to see Elizabeth upside down and demands an explanation. Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II admits she did it n a vain effort to stop Elizabeth's incessant chatter. Elizabeth tries to convince Osakabehime not to become an eternal shut-in by saying that she'll get fat. But Osakabehime is looking forward to that and reiterates how she and Elizabeth are opposites. She then orders Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II to activate her secret weapon. But Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II has gone rogue and activates the weapon to disable everyone, including Osakabehime. Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II modified it to absorb magical energy from Spirit Origins and convert it to Elisa Particles, so she calls it the “Omni-Eli-izer“. Mecha Eli-chan however divides her energy among everyone so they can move again. The group struggle against Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II until Elizabeth's oddly beautiful singing weakens her. Invigorated by Elizabeth's singing, the group defeat Mecha Eli-chan Mk.II. Ritsuka installs a heart circuit in her, then frees Elizabeth. After Ritsuka decides to return to Chaldea with one of the Mecha Eli-chans, the reactor goes into overload. Everyone gets ready to escape, but Osakabehime stays behind to contain the blast with her Noble Phantasm, along with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth accepts Osakabehime's declaration of friendship. Osakabehime then uses her Noble Phantasm to contain the blast, but it isn’t enough. She argues against Elizabeth using her Noble Phantasm until she realizes its negative Elisa Particle could nullify the positive ones of the reactor. The plan seems to work until Elizabeth stops singing, and the reactor explodes. Fortunately, the Elisa Particle density was low enough that only the reactor chamber was destroyed. The princesses survived, however, thanks to Elizabeth's Noble Phantasm. Osakabehime wants to disappear with the Singularity to make amend, but Ritsuka and Elizabeth convince her to join Chaldea instead. Afterward, everyone returns to Chaldea. Osakabehime redecorates Ritsuka's room to match her old room.
Event: Oni Pagoda Festival
On the 60th floor of the Oni Pagoda, Osakabehime, Tamamo-no-Mae, and Kiyohime are having a party arranged by Shuten-douji. Osakabehime freaks out when Ritsuka arrives as she thought the party was supposed to be an online friend-only IRL meetup and accuses Tamamo of tricking her. Tamamo tells Osakabehime she wouldn’t have left her room if she didn’t. Ritsuka tries to speak to Osakabehime, only for her to scream and hide. Kiyohime and Tamamo then get a text from her, asking them to buy her time while she makes herself more presentable. Tamamo reminds her not to text them when they’re next to her. She also tells her it’s pointless to hide from Ritsuka since they already know what they’re like. Osakabehime soon represents herself and initially tries to pretend that nothing happened. Tired of fighting, she insists Ritsuka's party stay with her and the others. She also tells Ritsuka that she and Tomoe Gozen are gaming partners, revealing that she taught her everything. Tomoe declines her offer for them to stay and game together, though, as they need to proceed to the next floor. But Tamamo says she and the others are obligated to Shuten since she organized the party to not let anyone pass without a fight. Ritsuka's party then proceeds to defeat the girls. Tamamo declares girls' night out as officially over. Osakabehime sends her a text expressing how much fun she had, which annoys Tamamo as she's right next to her. She then asks Osakabehime to send Kiyohime down on one of her origami cranes, which Osakabehime agrees to.
Summer Event: Servant Summer Festival!
With Kiyomehime, Osakabehime is a member of the doujin club Princess Princess. She finds the name unrepresentative of them, though, as they’re princesses in name only.
Osakabehime is stressing about getting her rough draft when Ritsuka’s party barges into her room. After Ritsuka explains their situation, Ushiwakamaru asks Osakabehime if Jeanne Alter’s request does not enrage her, considering that the latter just barged into her room and said she wanted to draw doujins with no prior experience. Osakabehime admits it is arrogant, but seeing that Jeanne Alter is dedicated, Osakabehime agrees to let her borrow her art tools and to teach her the basics. Then, after telling Jeanne Alter that amateurs like themselves only have their passion, she moves her things into the group’s room. It soon becomes time for Mysterious Heroine XX’s first attack, so the group go drive her away.
On a later day, Abigail Williams tells Osakabehime that someone stole her club’s section at the covention center and asks her if she could share some of hers. But Osakabehime, knowing her club’s space won’t be enough, goes up to the room door of Ritsuka’s party to ask if they could share some of their section as well. Nitocris and Scheherazade notice her trying to work up the courage to knock and decide to go with her as moral support. Upon entering, though, they catch Jeanne Alter in an embarrassing situation as she struggles to wake Ritsuka up. After Ritsuka wakes up, Osakabehime explains why she came. Jeanne Alter allows it, then answers a call from Henry Jekyll. He requests for her to drive Medb, who’s claimed the beach as her own and wants Ritsuka for herself, away. Jeanne Alter accepts and heads to the beach with Ritsuka and Osakabehime. Together they stop Medb’s bodyguards from poaching Ritsuka for her club for their supposed photography skills.
While helping Jeanne Alter in another loop, Osakabehime listens to her worries about if her work will be well received or not. She tells her that limits are what they discover on their own, saying they can approve all their lives and still find something more they can do. She then asks Jeanne Alter why she wanted to draw doujin. Jeanne Alter answers it’s because of a story about a princess and a monster that Jeanne d’Arc drew, though Jeanne insists she never drew such a story. Later, Osakabehime agrees to spar with Jeanne Alter. Feeling more relaxed afterward, Osakabehime goes her separate ways from Ritsuka and Jeanne Alter to continue working on her own doujin. Upon reentering the hotel, she muses how unusual it is for her to still feel so motivated. She wonders if it’s because Luluhawa is rubbing off on her or because she read something inspiring recently. Kiyohime then suddenly appears and reminds Osakabehime that they only have one day left. She refuses to let Osakabehime’s declaration that will be her best doujin ever go to waste, much to the annoyance of Osakabehime.
In the final loop, Ritsuka and Jeanne Alter run into Jeanne, Katsushika Oei, and Osakabehime while looking for a fight to relieve some stress. But hearing that they’re all done with final drafts only serves to frustrate Jeanne Alter even further. Osakabehime calls her crazy for wanting to start over, saying that missing a deadline is worse than releasing something you’re not satisfied with. Oei tells her to accept what she has drawn and put it together the best she can. Then, learning why Jeanne Alter came outside, Jeanne helps her relieve her stress, having Oei and Osakabehime join as well. Afterward, she leaves with them, saying they need to change their schedules.
Later that night, the three girls enter Ritsuka's party's room, having been invited by Ritsuka to help Jeanne Alter complete her story in time. But when they're so close to the end, Oei accidentally deletes all the data. Jeanne Alter tells Osakabehime to recover what she can and confirms with Robin Hood that he’s been making backups every 15 minutes. Everyone then crunches until morning and successfully completes the story. Osakabehime, Oei, and Jeanne all collapse from exhaustion afterward.
Imaginary Scramble
Osakabehime is chosen as one of the Servants alongside Scáthach-Skadi and Xiang Yu to take part in a test run of the Nautilus in Imaginary Numbers Space in preparation for the Atlantic Lostbelt. She later trains with Skadi and Xiang Yu onboard the Nautilus, but after they're done, Xiang Yu requests a ten-minute break and leaves. Osakabehime and Skadi both decide to rely on Ritsuka’s judgment on this matter. Everyone then takes a break.[5]
Later, after a successful Zero Sail, the alarm suddenly goes off with the sonar used in Real Number Space being active for some reason. The alarm is warning that the ship is about to run aground, even though there is no ground in Imaginary Number Space. Captain Nemo assumes the alarm is a glitch caused when Xiang Yu was fiddling with the instruments earlier.[6]
Entering the room, Xiang Yu apologizes for his absence and tells everyone to cover their ears. He then screams at the top of his lungs, all the while painting on a bamboo scroll, and gives said scroll to Ritsuka once he’s finished. His body is unsuited for the upcoming battle, so he opted to take numerous advance measures in preparation. He advises they stop the ship and open the box, then he leaves the room to rest, wishing Ritsuka good luck.[6]
Ritsuka orders the ship to be stopped. Nemo and his partitions try to comply with the order when the Nautilus crashes into something and its hull is penetrated. Rainbows—Imaginary Numbers—are leaking inside, threatening to flood the ship and kill everyone, so Nemo orders Sections 4 through 6 to be abandoned. He also orders the evacuated sector welded shut, and barriers and a Bounded Field to be set up to isolate observation. Ritsuka, refusing to let Marine and Professor die, uses a Command Spell to teleport them to the control room.[6]
Nemo realizes the fact that Marine and Professor nearly drowned in Imaginary Numbers means Imaginary Number Space is now observable. He suspects someone or something has altered Imaginary Number Space, making so everyone can see the same rainbows, meaning Real Numbers and Imaginary Numbers can observe one another. As such, the heroes will go insane if they observe or interact with Imaginary Numbers.[6]
Something suddenly attacks the ship. Ritsuka opens the crate that Xiang Yu placed earluer and told them to open. Inside, they find Mash’s swimsuit, which BB had prepared beforehand at Xiang Yu’s request. Ritsuka uses a Command Spell to change Mash into her swimsuit instantly. The swimsuit allows Mash to go out and eliminate the hostiles, though her victory relied mostly on luck since she couldn’t see the enemy.[6]
Nemo reveals the abandoned sectors contained their computers, observation devices, torpedoes, pantry, and a plethora of magical energy resources. As a result, the Nautilus’s potential cruise time dropped to ~150 hours. Everyone could have been dead by now if it weren’t for the preparations Xiang Yu made beforehand. Mash opens Xiang Yu’s scroll to find it has a sea chart; Osakabehime surmises his roar was a wide range echolocation scan. The chart shows they’re currently in a maze-like trench, also marking their current location, a recommended route, and a destination.[6]
With Professor in charge of the selection process, Ritsuka tries to summon a Servant from the Spirit Origin graph only to summon Yang Guifei, a Foreigner-class Servant they don’t remember, from the Throne instead. Guifei agrees to help and reveals that, with her exceptional hearing, she has been hearing someone outside pounding on the ship, warning of incoming enemies. Mash, Skadi, and Osakabehime go out (Skadi changed herself and Osakabehime into swimsuits using her runic magecraft to copy the Imaginary Numbers Formula memory chip BB embed in the swimsuit she sent) and eliminate the enemy, which they were able to see thanks to Guifei’s powers. Afterward, Mash and Osakabehime rescue and bring aboard Van Gogh.[6]
Osakabehime later runs away upon realizing Skadi intends to shoot her out of a torpedo tube for reconnaisance purposes, but she is eventually found and captured. Skadi explains that it is too dangerous to use sonar to locate enemies as they’re attracted to sound, so she proposes sending Osakabehime out and having her use the divination she uses to prepare her Noble Phantasm to detect enemies instead. Osakabehime is convinced by Ritsuka to follow Skadi’s plan. Nemo assigns her, Guifei, and Van Gogh to eliminate any enemies she detects as they progress through the trench, while Mash will act as the last line of defense and Skadi will work with Professor as head of engineering.[6]
The conversation then turns to how they have very little resources; food, magical energy, and materials for repairs. Van Gogh suggests eating the monsters for food and magical energy like she did while adrift. Her words turn out to be true following a battle, so it’s decided the combat team will double as a resource provisional team. Then, tying monster entrails to her to act as a lifeline, Osakabehime is launched.[6] She later discovers and reports a monster larger than the Nautilus, which Nemo would dub enemy ship.[7]
Reaching the second area, Ritsuka summons Minamoto-no-Raikou in response to Nemo’s request for a Servant with a large solid projectile Noble Phantasm to act as anti-ship artillery. She is also put on recon duty because her powers can increase the size and scope of the crew’s recon capabilities. But to Osakabehime’s dismay, that doesn’t mean she is off recon duty as the crew needs as much recon as possible. They also need someone to interpret the results of Raikou’s scans. Everyone but Ritsuka, Mash, Nemo, and Guifei are then made to leave the room so Guifei can tell the other three something in private.[8]
Everyone is later called to the bridge. Nemo enters and informs everyone that he called to congratulate them on passing their 150 hour time limit. To commemorate their hard work, he and Skadi have prepared a feast. Everyone heads to the mess hall for the feast, though Guifei thought she heard something.[9]
Unfortunately, the feast is interrupted when the ship is attacked. Nemo finds it strange the enemy found them as he was certain the ship was running silently. At his behest, the combat team heads out and eliminates the enemy before resuming the feast.[9]
Later, Raikou eliminates enemy ships (which aren’t even retaliating) barring the Nautilus from the next area. But then Guifei hears that strange sound again and warns an ambush is coming. Nemo orders the combat team to be ready to deploy when Osakabehime reports that the ambusher is another enemy ship. Nemo asks Professor to tell Raikou to switch targets to the new enemy ship, but Professor refuses as recalculating the homing spell inscribed on Raikou’s Noble Phantasm would take too long. Nemo thinks they may have no choice but to use the Nautilus Noble Phantasm, even with Raikou still out there.[10]
Van Gogh paints a platform for Raikou to stand on and the combat team is sent out to protect her while she destroys enemy ships. As they do, the Nautilus slowly reverses, luring the enemy ship away from Raikou and the combat team. Once the Nautilus is far enough away from them, Nemo uses his Noble Phantasm to destroy the enemy ship at point-blank range once the Nautilus is far enough from Raikou and the combat team. Unfortunately, the combat team’s platform suddenly falls apart and the shockwave from the Nautilus Noble Phantasm blasts them away. Communication with them is lost, and worse, they had cut their lifelines in preparation for the attack so now they are adrift. Fortunately, they’re rescued by the recently summoned Meltryllis. Afterward, however, everyone witnesses Gogh suddenly gnawing on her own arm. She is taken to the infirmary, where she eventually calms down. Her outburst was apparently the result of her being confused about what had happened.[10]
Entering the third area, Osakabehime scans the area to discover a swarm of small enemies along with an enemy ship three times the size of the Nautilus. The crew eliminates the swarm, but Guifei questions the validity of Osakabehime’s scans as she still cannot hear the giant enemy ship Osakabehime had mentioned earlier. Osakabehime affirms it is indeed there, having been scanning the area every ten seconds, and the other scouts’ data support her. The reason Guifei can’t hear it is because it isn’t make any sound. The giant enemy ship suddenly moves, allowing Guifei to finally hear it. She hears it moving away from the Nautilus, so Osakabehime assumes that means they’re safe. But then it destroys a nearby landmass with an energy beam, the aftershock of which rocks the Nautilus as if to dissuade the crew from going any further. Nevertheless, the Nautilus proceeds further in.[11]
Following many battles, it becomes very clear the third area is absolutely packed with enemies, though fortunately there hasn’t been any sign of the giant enemy ship since the crew’s first encounter with it. Osakabehime presumes it is the “lord” of the area, but Professor refutes that as hers and Skadi’s research on the Imaginary Number Sea creatures proved they’re akin to marionettes moving in response to stimuli with not enough evidence that they have a hierarchy. Nemo tells Osakabehime and Guifei to keep an eye out for the giant enemy ship in case it attacks again.[12]
The ship then suddenly comes under attack by a swarm of enemies. After they’re eliminated, Nemo tells Osakabehime and Guifei to stay on the bridge at all times for now and work alongside Professor to devise a viable technology for remote operations. He understands this double workload for the two of them isn’t sustainable, though, so they’ll need to think of a longer-term viable solution.[12]
Sometime later, the crew destroys the giant Enemy Ship—Enemy Ship Alpha. But Alpha makes a loud sound as it dies, which fatally wounds Guifei as a result of her sensitive hearing and having weakened her own Spirit Origin when she cloned herself earlier. Desperate to save Guifei, Van Gogh activates De Sterrennacht, explaining that it deifies any Foreigners who look upon it while driving everyone else insane. She therefore implores the latter to close their eyes when a white flash occurs.[13]
The deification restores Guifei’s Spirit Origin, but as a side effect, her Spirit Origin changed to her third Ascension. Van Gogh is glad the deification didn’t go any further, otherwise Guifei wouldn’t be a Servant. However, it seems the Ascension had affected Guifei’s personality as she offers to serve everyone and her beloved emperor for giving her a second chance at life. She notices the change and changes back to her second Ascension, restoring her original personality.[13]
In the fourth and final area, the Nautilus is hit by repeat stealth attacks, eventually forcing the crew to retreat to a calmer area worse the exit is blocked. The stress of the situation is getting to Nemo, and he decides he needs to be alone, so Ritsuka tells everyone to take a break.[14]
However, the ship soon becomes overrun with monsters spawned from Van Gogh’s blood. Mash, Osakabehime, Guifei, and the Marines stay safe on the bridge while Ritsuka, Raikou, and Frankenstein go around and slay the monsters. After the monsters are slain, everyone gathers on the bridge.[15]
The crew argues about Van Gogh’s innocence since her blood was used to summon monsters and she is most likely the Foreigner who created the spatial gaps from which the enemy launched multiple stealth attacks against the Nautilus. Professor confirms the gaps theory is true with a magecraft function she built with Guifei and Osakabehime. They also modified the ship’s weapon systems so they can now eliminate the enemies hiding within the gaps.[15]
Raikou wants to test it out immediately, but Meltryllis thinks they should take care of their internal dispute first. Raikou asserts Van Gogh is innocent, for there is no evidence that says otherwise. The Marines refuse to believe Van Gogh is innocent, though, and start a mutiny calling for her execution. The conflict overloads Nemo into an unresponsive state.[15]
Xiang Yu then suddenly enters the room and uses his Noble Phantasm at minimum power to knock out the thirteen Marines; he is awake because the incident hadn’t been resolved by now like he calculated. Ritsuka remembers there are only supposed to be twelve Marines and deduces the impostor is Oei, prompting the latter to remove her disguise. [15]
Oei confesses she is responsible for nearly every problem the crew has encountered, all because she wanted to stay in the Imaginary Number Sea, calling it a painter’s dream come true. She had knocked out her father when he disagreed and found a way to stowaway on the Nautilus. She has no loyalty toward the Outer Gods and only wants to stay here and paint all she can, so she requests Ritsuka to keep the Nautilus here for the next 200 years or so. Ritsuka refuses, leading to a battle between Oei and the crew.[15]
Pushed back, Oei confesses she came to the Imaginary Number Sea because a voice from its deepest depths was calling to her. She and Guifei start charging their Noble Phantasms when Van Gogh (she recently regained consciousness from an earlier battle with Ritsuka, Frankenstein, and Raikou) enters the room. Oei realizes Van Gogh is the one who called her, but she realizes she isn’t Vincent Van Gogh. She tries to ask for her true identity, but Meltryllis knocks her out.[15]
Realizing what Oei said was true, Van Gogh asks Ritsuka if they know her Heroic Spirit’s true identity. Suddenly the Marines all start saying Clytie, a name Nemo has been keeping to himself, repeatedly. Van Gogh recognizes the name and turns into her third Ascension. But even after hearing that, she still can’t help but think of herself as Van Gogh, nor can she escape his memories. She therefore intends to die somewhere deep and far away so she will not bring trouble to everyone and teleports away. Everyone agrees with Ritsuka they need to find her.[15]
Nemo later recovers and everyone discusses Van Gogh’s true identity. Nemo deduces she is Clytie (Apollo’s former Oceanid lover) implanted with Vincent van Gogh’s memories. Skadi realizes the Outer Gods always intended for Van Gogh to go insane and theorizes that they seek to use Imaginary Number Space as an outpost to invade modern-day Earth. For this reason, they summoned Van Gogh to Imaginary Number Space and, per their orders, called Oei and waited for the crew. She was also ordered to create a base and recruit and deify Chaldea’s Foreigners.[15]
In answering Van Gogh’s call, Oei became amendable to the Outer Gods’ desires and, per their plans, she stowed away in the Nautilus and transformed Imaginary Number Space into a sea. If she wasn’t stopped, it is likely she would’ve succumbed to madness completely and painted a temple for the Outer Gods, which would serve as their outpost. Skadi theorizes the Outer Gods planned on having Van Gogh use her Noble Phantasm to deify the other Foreigners once the temple was complete through which they meant to descend upon Earth.[15]
However, Skadi believes Van Gogh had no desire to betray the crew, which is why the Outer Gods fused her with Clytie. She concludes from Vincent’s history that he committed suicide because he learned his painting Starry Night had inadvertently invited an Outer God into their world and he’d rather die than fall under the Outer Gods’ influence. His absolute refusal to obey them obviously caused a conundrum for the Outer Gods since they desired his Noble Phantasm above all others, so they created their own Heroic Spirit by implanting Clytie with Vincent’s memories and talent. Clytie’s refusal to end her life would conflict with Vincent’s unconscious need to commit suicide and eventually Van Gogh drive to madness and use her Noble Phantasm without compunction.[15]
Meltryllis suggests they honor Van Gogh’s wish and kill her since she cannot kill herself, seeing the fact she abandoned the only people who could do that as proof her madness has reached its peak. Van Gogh is only a step away from initiating her final, most dangerous plan, so if the crew wants to save her from that fate, they need a plan that’s just, kind, wise, and smart. Everyone agrees to come up with a plan to save Van Gogh while stopping the Outer Gods. Xiang Yu confesses he calculated Van Gogh would separate herself from the others. The crew will reencounter Van Gogh in the current area, but Xiang Yu warns they’ll need to be prepared for fierce battles.[15]
The crew eventually located Van Gogh, but discover that her body had been mutated into a giant flower bud. Skadi theorizes it is the Outer Gods' contingency plan in case Van Gogh failed to deify the other Foreigners with De Sterrennacht. Oei agrees to help the crew get through the flower’s shell and reveals that the spatial gaps actually work like a real Go board, meaning any area they surround becomes their territory. Therefore, if the crew can make the area Van Gogh is in their territory by capturing the four surrounding gaps, they can warp inside her.[16]
Nemo says they will capture the four gaps with as few people as possible. Once that is done, they will go inside the flower and rescue Van Gogh at its center. Afterward, they will use Raikou’s Noble Phantasm to destroy the flower from the inside. Skadi decides the rescue team will consist of Raikou, Meltryllis, and Frankenstein; Raikou will assume torpedo duties, Meltryllis will be the escort, and Frankenstein will rescue Van Gogh. As for who will capture the four points, she decides it will be Guifei, Osakabehime, herself, and Oei.[16]
All the sudden, Van Gogh lets out a screech that shakes the Nautilus and implores the crew to stay away, sending out Enemy Ships in order to force them. She knows everyone wants to save her, but she believes they shouldn’t, considering herself too dangerous and feels she has no right to be with them.[16]
She is no longer certain of who she is, wanting to die because she is Vincent, but refusing to die because she is Clytie. But none of that matters, for she only needs to follow the Outer Gods’ orders to use her Noble Phantasm to deify other Foreigners. Even if her mind self-destructs due to overload, she can still fulfill her main objective by engaging her core consciousness and letting her divine form bloom. She is glad her life has a purpose even if she cannot stand it or herself, and is certain Vincent and Clytie would feel the same way.[16]
To the crew’s surprise, though, half of the enemy warheads contain A-rank explosives while the other heals, and if they weren’t hitting at the same time, the ship would’ve sunk long ago. Nemo realizes it is the result of Van Gogh feeling conflicted over whether to give herself over to the Outer Gods’ influence or rid herself of their influence. As a Phantom Spirit himself, he can tell she is trying to fight their influence. Ritsuka suggests to Nemo since that they’re both Phantom Spirits, maybe his voice can get through to Van Gogh.[16]
With Guifei amplifying his voice so it reaches her, Nemo asks Van Gogh to give herself a name so she may gain a sense of self. He promises her that, no matter what name she choses she will not be abandoned and she will be rescued. After a moment, all enemy projectiles are fully converted into support resources. Van Gogh then addresses the Nautilus crew, declaring herself Clytie van Gogh, telling them if they can accept that name she’d be happy if they saved her.[16]
Van Gogh is eventually rescued from the flower, which Raikou destroys from the inside with her Noble Phantasm. The Evil God of Flowers (Van Gogh’s Outer God and the mastermind behind this whole incident) contacts the crew afterward. It accepts it lost due to lack of foresight, but it also claims the crew had refused their chance at the second-best outcome they could’ve hoped for: a peaceful, gentle destruction. It finds it a pity and bids the crew farewell.[17]
Now back on the Nautilus, Van Gogh begins the process of creating a Holy Grail, which will be used to return Imaginary Numbers Space to normal, so the Nautilus crew can leave, as well as prevent future invasions. While she is making it, though, she reveals she cannot use Le Père Tanguy, though she can still paint the picture. Ritsuka remembers it was Guifei who first brought up Le Père Tanguy when Xiang Yu suddenly tries to kill her. He fails and is defeated by Guifei’s counterattack. He apologizes to Ritsuka that the rest is up to them and collapses.[18]
Guifei snatches the Grail Van Gogh just finished making. Raikou and Meltryllis try to stop her, but her flames keep them from approaching her, having carefully researched everyone so none of them could stop her at this precise moment. She then fills the bridge with a curse, which presumably prompts the Marines to suddenly grab Skadi, Osakabehime, and Meltryllis from behind. Guifei had planned for this exact moment and decided now to make her move now that she is overflowing with eldritch power (the Outer Gods’ power source), which the Outer Gods used to bug out the summoning system and connect directly to the Throne. Guifei then changes into her third Ascension to demonstrate her allegiance to the Outer Gods.[18]
Van Gogh believes her usage of De Sterrennacht had turned Guifei into the Outer Gods’ ally. Guifei corrects her that she was always their ally, revealing she came to Imaginary Number Space because she was called. Van Gogh refuses to believe that as the Evil God of Flowers only had her call out to gods of the same alliance and of those only Hokusai had answered. Guifei reveals her emperor had vacated a spot in the Throne for her so she could be summoned from it. She then calls Ritsuka her emperor, putting them in a trance.
Unable to speak, Ritsuka is manipulated into commanding Guifei to bring forth depravity or destruction. Fortunately, Frankenstein destroys the good luck doll Guifei gave Ritsuka, allowing them to speak again. Ritsuka tries to rescind “their” command, but it is too late, as Guifei uses the Grail to hack the summoning system and summon Abigail Williams and Mysterious Heroine XX, though she could’ve sworn she summoned a third Servant. But believing the current number will suffice, she proceeds to infuse all present Foreigners with eldritch power, driving all of them (except for Van Gogh) insane.[18]
She declares that the Foreigners will now hold the Great Foreigner Festival Imaginary Number Sea Scramble Ritsuka “requested”, a festival where they will vie for control of the Imaginary Number Sea, with the winner earning the right to rule over the next era on Earth. Ritsuka tries to tell they never asked for anything of that, but Meltryllis concludes Guifei had only pretended to be sane from the very beginning. Then, at Guifei’s behest, the Foreigners leave the Nautilus to take the Imaginary Number Sea for themselves, except for Van Gogh as the eldritch power didn’t render her insane, presumably because her link with her Outer God was severed when its terminal was physically destroyed.[18]
Frankenstein destroys the dolls Guifei gave to the Marines and Baker returning them to normal. Skadi concludes they can stop the Foreigners’ rampage by destroying the terminals feeding them eldritch power from the Outer Gods and then restrain them once they’ve come to their senses. She suggests Van Gogh use De Sterrennacht, believing it can be used to remove the Outer Gods’ terminal from each Foreigner, thereby severing the link between the two. Van Gogh agrees to do it, wanting to be of more help now that she is free of the Evil God of Flowers’ machinations.[18]
Though she is sure the Foreigners will be fine once their madness is removed, Osakabehime asks what should be done about Guifei since it seemed her madness ran deep. Meltryllis and Raikou both want to kill her, but Ritsuka refuses to let that happen. Wu Zetian then addresses the crew, having been summoned with Abigail and XX but went unnoticed during the commotion. Mash thinks they might be able to return Guifei to her senses with Zetian as she is the grandmother of Emperor Xuanzong, Guifei’s beloved emperor. Zetian agrees to help, and so the Nautilus crew sets out to stop the Foreigners.[18]
When the crew later confronts Guifei as the final Foreigner, Osakabehime tells her that even though she knows now that their friendship was a sham, she still believes the way Guifei smiled when they ate lychees or when she played with the Marines was the real her. So even if Guifei is broken, Osakabehime knows Ritsuka could never abandon a Servant with redeeming qualities. Osakabehime’s words seem to reach Guifei as she reverts to her first Ascension and becomes confused about what exactly happened to her beloved emperor. It is unfortunately brief, though, as she returns to her third Ascension.[19]
Van Gogh defeats Guifei in combat, but unfortunately she cannot cleanse her without killing her because 90% of her Spirit Origin is occupied by the Outer God’s terminal. Guifei then starts to disappear, but it is stopped by a torpedo Raikou made with Nurse. Afterward, Zetian has Frankenstein briefly connect her to Van Gogh and borrows De Sterrennacht to return Guifei to her first Ascension by placing restrictions on her Spirit Origin. One of these restrictions is that she cannot marry her beloved emperor until she is mature enough for marriage. Zetian tells Ritsuka to use this opportunity to help Guifei grow as a person, believing one day they may be able to remove the Outer God’s terminal from her.[19]
With the Foreigners all freed of their insanity, Van Gogh uses the Grail to return Imaginary Number Space to its pre-tampered state, allowing the ship to finally return to Real Number Space. But the moment the Nautilus returns to Real Number Space, the entire voyage is revealed to have been a dream.[20]
Other appearances
In Fate/Grand Carnival Osakabehime is a popular streamer on ServantTube who gets jealous when Ereshkigal starts taking viewers away from her. She starts streaming in her swimsuit to counter this, which at first gets her more donations from the stream's chat than Ereshkigal but eventually results in her channel getting banned.
In the Unlimited Blade Works manga, Osakabehime appears in a series of non-canon bonus chapters where Rin Tohsaka summons her instead of EMIYA.[21]
Abilities
Osakabehime is able to, through her Chiyogami Manipulation Techniques Skill, manipulate and transform folded paper for offensive and defensive purposes. With her Shapeshift Skill, she can change into various forms like a woman of 17-18 in a multi-layered kimono, or a fierce demon of human proportions.
Due to being a complete shut-in, she isn't as skilled as other Assassins when it comes to combat, but still experienced nonetheless, able to somehow match Yan Qing and Elizabeth Báthory. She is also good at curses, even Tamamo-no-Mae, an expert at curses, calls her curses very dangerous and annoying. She is also capable of creating portals to transport herself.
Skills
Class Skills
- Presence Concealment (Shade) (B Rank): The fact she locked herself up for years on end is not for show.
- Territory Creation (A+ Rank): The fact she locked herself up for years on end is not for show.
Personal Skills
- Chiyogami Manipulation Techniques (EX Rank): She is able to control her origami at will. She can use it to attack, defend herself, and she can even combine it with her Shapeshift skill to make decoys.
This is her own personal arrangement of the shikigami utilized by practitioners of Onmyoudou.
- Shapeshift (A+ Rank): In front of human beings, she took forms ranging from 17-18 year-old maidens in 12-layered ceremonial kimonos to demon-gods 10 shaku in height. During peaceful times, she’s the top ranker in Japanese Shapeshifting.[1]
Moreover, despite being so reserved, she possesses a top-class growth aspect within Japanese Servants which even managed to fool Miyamoto Musashi.
- Four Gods Divination (Hakuro) (A Rank): A Skill that came from the story that the four Gods is observing the Himeji CastleWP. It's only for few turns but by treating her surroundings as her own territory, she can increase the status of allies. Furthermore, she can focus the stat amp in her field to an extent. To be more precise on the amp, north is endurance, south is strength, east is agility and west is mana. It doesn't matter if it's a servant or master but the maximum people that can be used is 4.
- Castle Apparition (A++ Rank): A collective term for the creatures who moved from the likes of Shrines into the castle.[1] It was said that Osakabehime was the true ruler of Himeji CastleWP. Even the mere glimpse of her figure will cost one’s life. On the contrary, the further she ventures outside the castle, the weaker her powers will be.[1]
- Animal Control (Bat) (EX Rank): She can control bats, which are neither beasts nor birds, as her familiars. She's become highly specialized in bats, and thus she uses them to attack and move, and she never fights by herself. She's pretty lazy. Since she's currently using her origami as main means of attack, her bats are currently taking a break
- Divinity (C Rank): She was worshiped as the indigenous god of the land of Himeji.
Noble Phantasm
Her Noble Phantasm is Lord Hachitendo of Hakuro Castle's Hundred Demons. Purely defensive Noble Phantasm. Grand-scale magecraft that is similar but different to a Reality Marble that manifests a miniature recreation of Himeji castle. With its majestic beauty, the castle provides mental support to allies. It has a side-effect of inflicting charm upon Japanese Servants, especially those from up to the Edo period.
Forms and Alternate Versions
Swimsuit
After two years of complaints, she finally did it.
Swimsuit installation by spirit change, achieved! The Hikikomori Princess, who became a little more active after her class change from Assassin to Archer, is here! To be more specifically, it fits her game feature, where she is playing battle royale mode every day.
For the moment, the princess was worried whether her life would be fine.
Just for the Master, it may be good to go outdoors with more courage for this one time in life. It would be like some manga story. She made a choice. Providing support as a friend 70%, with up to 10-20% firepower. Along with some encouragement, she finally got her swimsuit version. Incidentally, she became one of the Saint swordsmen for this Summer event. By doing a bit of the Boxing Diet, she managed to lose a bit of weight. Sadly, she'll have to endure the rebound effect once Autumn season begins.
Personality
After she became a Swimsuit Servant, she got a little more active, however, her true nature still hasn't changed much.
In other words, she prefers fun playing more than works that make her sweat. That's Osakabehime for you, whose attributes remain the same since the first event.
By the way, her attitudes towards Master are not particularly different from when she was an Assassin either. A maiden's feelings are complicated and mysterious, blind, and futile.
Abilities
The colours of her military equipment make them look like toys, however, as the bullets are a mass of magical power, they hold much greater destructive power than the flimsy real things.
Class Skills:
- Magic Resistance (B Rank): No information available.
- Independent Action (A Rank): No information available.
- Divinity (C- Rank): No information available.
- Fortification Construction (B Rank): Another version of Territory Creation. Taking advantage of the experience of being a guardian deity of Himeji Castle, she could use this to build a stronghold. As a B rank Skill, its strong enough to endure a bombing.
Personal Skill:
- Marksmanship (FPS) (B Rank): She has honed her skills of reflexive training during her time of playing video games. She does this by repeatedly jumping around to avoid attacks.
- Princess Summer Vacation (Fake) (A Rank): Why is there a (False) in princess?? I am a decent and respectable princess!! Eh? why is there a (fake) in vacation? A Copy? Eh? ……EHH?
- Chiyogami Battalion Commander (EX Rank): By manipulating small animals made of origami, she can prepare for simultaneous shooting, support bombing, and shelling.
- Noble Phantasm
Osakabehime's Noble Phantasm is Hakuro Castle - Thousand Forms Mili-Mili Night Fever. A battalion of origami (one thousand sheets) that is fully utilized for volley firing, cover bombing, and main battery shooting.
Development
Osakabehime was considered to be in Fate/Samurai Remnant, but the writers felt there were too many Japanese Servants already and that she couldn't be included without involving her relationship with Musashi, which would bring in too much baggage from FGO. As a result Circe was chosen instead.[22]
Creation and Conception
Osakabehime was designed by Daisuke Moriyama in Fate/Grand Order. Her scenario writer is Yuuichirou Higashide in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Comments from Illustrator
"I was told to draw Osakabehime as a shut-in so I tried to draw her different expressions in a way to make her easy to like; her fragile mentality makes her so cute...I thought too much about her fellow e-mail buddies when deciding on her colors so she ended up naturally looking Halloween-ish. If you ask me, her second stage is her default form, while her third one is basically her best clothes for going out. So if she were to be suddenly called while she was lazying around in her room she'd go to her first stage to hide her appearance since she had no time to prep herself." (Daisuke Moriyama)[1]
