Ushiwakamaru (牛若丸?), Class Name Rider (ライダー, Raidā?), is a Rider-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
She is also summoned by Gilgamesh to act as a general in his army during the Seventh Singularity,[6] Neco-Arc in Melty Blood: Type Lumina to strongarm the people of the Tsukihime world into subservience,[5][7] and is the Servant of Rurihime in the world "After" the Holy Grail War of Fate/Requiem.[8]
Profile
Identity
Better known by her adult name Minamoto-no-YoshitsuneWP (源義経WP?), she was the most famous military commander in Japanese history. Probably only someone like Oda Nobunaga possesses a popularity that rivals hers... However, there are many obscure points in regards to history, and especially the early half of her life from before raising an army is wrapped in mystery.[2]
It has been told that at eleven years-old, while she was under the care of the Kurama TempleWP, Ushiwakamaru met with the onmyouji Kiichi Hougen (some theories say that they were also the Kurama TenguWP) and was awarded with the arts of war.[2] Kiichi teaching Ushiwakamaru the secrets were entirely against their will. Ushiwakamaru just seduced their daughter one day to sneak a look at the secrets, causing the fearsome mentor to try to kill her in their rage.[9]
Although she was blessed with talent and charisma, Ushiwakamaru was abandoned by her brother Minamoto-no-Yoritomo, and was defeated together with her attendant Musashibou Benkei.[2]
Legend
Perhaps this ill-fated commander is probably a being so famous, there is no one in Japan who does not know her name.[1][2] That recognition is also frequently apparent in the proverb called the "Sympathy for a Tragic Hero." Namely, a tragic military commander who, while was overflowing with charisma and holds an innate disposition of a genius, was driven off in defeat at the end of a confrontation with Yoritomo, her older brother who was jealous of this prominent figure's nature————apart from that matter of whether it was distinctly right or wrong... This Ushiwakamaru is unmistakably a monster.[1]
In any case, Ushiwakamaru cannot read the hearts of men. She cannot understand this matter, perplexed at her own human being.[1]
"Love, what is it?" Ushiwakamaru inquires. She was left under the care of a temple when she was very young, and she was raised unaware of a father's love, a mother's love, as well as love spun from a significant other. If there is only one fact, Ushiwakamaru was a samurai. A samurai serves the lord and swears allegiance to the lord. Concerning her, that was the only truth, and with the exception of that, everything else didn't matter. Separated from her parents when she was very young, she was disciplined by a Tengu deep in the mountains; subsequently, she was not able to nurture her "humanity". Close to a pure beast, she fights for the sake of her master instead of herself. For the cause of being praised, Ushiwakamaru triumphed. She won thoroughly. That is, she removed all ostentation from herself because that is none other than a choice for a way to slaughter her enemies quite efficiently. Yoritomo was afraid of that, and Ushiwakamaru's circumstances did not make her popularity rise. It may not be discovered that her fangs could turn towards her allies to tear off their attractive yet deceptive outward appearances... They were afraid of her inhuman nature that did not truly fit in with the relationship of gaining profit by having power.[1]
Ushiwakamaru fought in the Genpei WarWP between the Minamoto clan and Taira clanWP. During the war, Ushiwakamaru was ordered by her brother Yoritomo to kill their cousin, Kiso Yoshinaka.[10]
After he destroyed the Taira clan, Yoritomo immediately began to obliterate Ushiwakamaru. Her social position has not yet settled within their clan, and if he does not destroy her, he will always become anxious about the future. At any rate, Yoshitsune doesn't understand politics. She doesn't understand the hearts of men. If that kin, similar to an antiquated beast, exists, then Yoritomo cannot make the era he is aiming for. It was rumored in the public streets that Yoritomo killed his younger brother at the end of a power struggle. Ushiwakamaru consented. That synopsis is correct. Regardless of what intentions Yoritomo had, and regardless of what Ushiwakamaru was feeling, with this state of affairs around her, it was reasonable for Ushiwakamaru to dispose herself, and...[1]
Since the Taira no longer existed, Ushiwakamaru was Yoritomo's next political opponent. Also, as far as Hojo MasakoWP, her older brother's wife, is concerned, the likes of Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune is probably unneeded. Thus, she will behave as if she was her older brother's enemy, doing nothing but fight and die in battle, all in accordance with what her older brother desires. Although Ushiwakamaru thought as such, her subordinates persuaded her, and she decided to escape to OshuWP. And yet, Yoritomo persistently chased her. He saw her not as family, but as an inhuman monster, and chased after her.[1]
————"That's strange. This is somewhat unreasonable."
————"Though, it was human beings that preferred emotions rather than gains and losses."
————"I only wanted my older brother to praise me, but I was lacking something."
————"I am sorry, I could not change up to my last moments————"[1]
Although Ushiwakamaru was defeated at Oshu, her name was carved into the history of Japan. Without understanding the essence of anyone.[1]
Appearance
Ushiwakamaru is a young girl clad in samurai armor.[11] She is summoned as a teenager, and says her adult self looks more mature.[12] Taira-no-Kagekiyo is how she looks as an adult, though without Kagekiyo's lipstick or eyeshadow.
In Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Ushiwakamaru wears a black bodysuit under her armor, covering more of her up. This design is a simplifield version of a design that first appeared on the Fate/Grand Order 6th anniversary Craft Essence "Heroic Spirit Tour: Ushiwakamaru".

Personality
Ushiwakamaru is a genius swordsman that wholeheartedly adores her older brother, Minamoto-no-Yoritomo.[11] She respected him as a samurai and loved him for being her brother. Although she tries not to be boastful, she says that he was the most exemplary older brother in the world.[13]
Ushiwakamaru likes to have fun. When she was a child, she was rather mischievous since she spent her days playing pranks on adults as a hobby and causing trouble for the monks, all while laughing out loud. Though she is not like that any more as she conducts herself properly to the best of her ability.[13]
For some reason, Ushiwakamaru has some level of acrophobia as she hates high places and never wants to be anywhere high.
She was constantly persecuted by those around her in life due to her exceedingly great talent.[11] While there is no doubt that she was an excellent tactician, Yoshitsune lacked something vital.[2] That is fear towards the battlefield; she never thought battles were frightening.[2][13] All throughout life, she was incompatible with the other military commanders. That Yorimoto even held killing intent towards Yoshitsune was probably something that she never came to understand in her entire life. For, since she was a genius, having concern towards abilities was something that did not exist in her.[2] But no matter how many times she is betrayed, she still wants to fight for someone's sake.[13]
A beautiful swordsman who is disciplined, scolding even her Master for any sloppy habits.[1][13] Despite her beautiful figure, showing an appearance like a flower blooming in the midnight, Ushiwakamaru is without self-assertion. She sometimes speaks as necessary, but she does not have a talkative disposition that can express a beautiful voice that would draw 10,000 people in to listen to it in ecstasy. Also, she does not boast her outstanding arts of war, instead proving it with nothing but results and at the scene of battle. It is possible to say that this person is a paragon of knighthood that discerns propriety and speaks with actions before words... and, someone simply seen as a genuine fighting machine.[1]
Because her character is straightforward and not a falsehood, all the established things Ushiwakamaru undertakes completely becomes the "shortest, fastest straight line" towards the goal. When ordinary people do this, they usually fail and reflect on their failure, and subsequently from that, they consider... and polish a variety of plans... The problem is, Ushiwakamaru is a super genius. Because she does not fail at these things, she has grown to as she is now with this unmanageable nature.[1]
In battle, Ushiwakamaru is cold-hearted, cool-headed and the personification of the most suitable hand, but ordinarily, she is a young girl who earnestly wishes "to become her older brother's power, to become the head's strength, and to want to help this splendid figure." To address this in a few words, "a faithful hound with a broken brake." She is faithful, bright and friendly, but somewhere, she is missing a screw... no, it becomes unclear of its whereabouts.[1]
Her talents sublimated up to its utmost limits and her extraordinary loyalty becomes intertwined, and a person (Master) that notices "this unthinkable genius who, without thinking, is just unreasonably becoming emotionally attached to me for no real reason" won't understand why and might harbor fear at that characteristic. On the other hand, how Ushiwakamaru treats her subordinates is surely demonic. "Die so you can make an easy place for me to fight. That is your role."[1]
Ushiwakamaru is a girl who really loves her brother and is making great efforts as a girl who really loves her Master. That cool behavior that does not get agitated by anything... from there is a ferocity one step short of an unleashed Berserker's, and anyone would be bewildered at that.[1]
If the Master is vexed about "If that enemy's ship is usable...", Ushiwakamaru will head towards the ship visibly like a gale while saying "Master, please leave the decisions to me!" A few minutes later, she would inform the Master about the ship and say "Master, this way to the ship!" However, except for the sailors operating the ship, everybody will be completely dealing with the scene of carnage called "being bound for the netherworld."[1]
Ushiwakamaru is a cool-headed subordinate, but she too is a person that draws from the blood of the Minamoto clan, a clan of which has the origin of the word "ruler" in the past. She is only faithful towards the Master, and will display a sadistic and cold-hearted side to anyone except the Master.[1]
Naturally, much like with her brother, Ushiwakamaru will serve her Master with all her heart, fighting until her's or her Master's final moments.[13]
Ushiwakamaru's wish for the Holy Grail is to be with her older brother. It would truly make her happy.[13]
Relationships
- Musashibou Benkei
- "The man calls himself Benkei... and I understand the gist of it, but it is extremely bold of him to do so. I'll mess with him for fun. Then I can kill him behind the temple when I'm bored of him."[1]
- "Benkei, is that you? Try chanting these sutras. What? You can't do it? Then fly, fly and make me coin. What? You can't do that either? ...I see. Meet me behind the temple later if you know what's good for you."[14]
- "Um...ahem. You there. Yeah you, who claims to be Benkei. Well...I suppose...in Babylonia, you did...good...if the bar was set real low...I guess.. Just...you did good. What's with that look? Do you want to get sliced up or something?"[14]
- "Hey, you're big as usual! A man as big as you might be able to walk to that other island over there. Okay, let's try it out. Hoist me up on your shoulders, Hitachibou! Oh wait, did I get your name wrong? Or did I not? What do you think, hmmm?"[14]
- She’s playing with all her power while poking fun at the troubled former retainer.[15]
- Taira-no-Kagekiyo
- "Wha...!? Taira-no-Kagekiyo!? But they obviously look like me... No. No, no, no! I must be seeing things! Yes, I'm just hallucinating. I will absolutely never acknowledge it!"[14]
- Minamoto-no-Raikou
- "Ah, so that is Minamoto-no-Raikou-dono! Care for a duel... No, never mind. Killings within the family is never a good thing."[14]
- Shyly happy to have her as an ancestor and to get to know her. Feels like she's a mother. Vaguely feels that "their roots are similar."[1]
- Watanabe-no-Tsuna
- "So that's the legendary oni-slayer, Watanabe-no-Tsuna-dono! I just witnessed the way he fought, and it was very impressive. He chopped them into literal mincemeat! Are you sure he claimed he doesn't like to kill? I bet he's one of those types who won't be satisfied until he's ground the enemy to a pulp."[14]
- Sakata Kintoki
- "Kintoki-dono! It is quite the honor to be fighting alongside a legendary hero like you! I actually have a favor to ask you... May I take a ride on your Golden ride!? It'll be fine. I'm a genius, so I should be able to catch on real quick!"[14]

- "Ta-Ta-Ta-Ta-Ta- Tawara Touta-sama!? Th-the legend himself! Wh-wh-wh-what should I do, Master!? Is asking for an autograph and a handshake allowed in Chaldea!?"[14]
- Jing Ke / Martha
- Artoria Alter categorizes these three as the "disappointing trio". They may act like they have common sense, but since they're really just weirdos, they fit together well. "When I speak my mind, most people seem to be stunned, but Jing Ke and Martha keep on going like nothing strange happened. I've never met someone so easy to talk with!"[1]
- Medb
- "Master, do you have a moment? I want to know something about the woman called Medb. She doesn't do any kind of training, right? So those legs and that body of hers is just natural? Are you kidding me!? I'm so jeal—no, you have the wrong idea. That's not what I mean! Argh!"[14]
- Medb (Swimsuit)
- "I don’t really understand the games that woman likes. Shouldn’t games be something healthier?"[15]
- Osakabehime
- "Oh hey Okki! If you're bored, how about we play some video games? Very good. Let's get to it right away. How about this fighting game!? By the way, does this game have any animations where the character cuts off the enemy's head? No I see..."[14]
- Helena Blavatsky
- "Every time Helena-dono looks at me, she keeps saying "I sense a strong Mahatma." What does this my-hat-ma mean...?"[14]

- Hessian Lobo
- "Bow-wow, bark, bark, awooo! Hnrgh... This wolf-dono really is tight-lipped. Or maybe there's a language barrier here. Eh? Oh, well my animal communication is all based on feelings. I'm a genius, after all!"[14]
- Animal-type / Wild child-type Servants
- "I’m close to being a wild child so it makes me want to run around together in the middle of nature (including the beach). Kintoki-dono, how about we have one match even if it’s at sumo? …Why are you averting your eyes, Kintoki-dono?!"[15]
Role
Fate/Grand Order
GUDAGUDA Honnouji
She appears in this Singularity under the name Imagawa Yoshitsune. After setting up camp, she orders Musashibou Sessai (who she repeatedly almost calls Benkei) to prepare a banquet in two seconds. Sessai tells her to be on guard since their camp is in a dangerous location. Imagawa tells him not to worry because of their Mini-Nobbu army. Later, she and Sessai see Ritsuka’s party approaching as they flee from Matsudaira Arash‘s Stella. Seeing the Noble Phantasm, Imagawa and Sessai wonder it is when they’re struck by it. Imagawa disappears, lamenting that her army was destroyed and her dream to resurrect the Kamakura Shogunate is gone.
Christmas Event: Santa Alter for Roughly a Week
When Gaius Julius Caesar came to Jing Ke’s hideout, he is mistaken for Santa Claus, and makes Ushiwakamaru, Martha, and Jing Ke sign a contract that forced them to buy expensive presents with their own money. But when Caesar discovered they didn’t have enough money, he confiscates their possessions.
Later, Ushiwakamaru complains about how people should send presents to each other anytime, not just on Christmas. When Santa Alter asks for Jing Ke (calling her Jean Kay), Ushiwakamaru starts to tell her, but a drunk Jing Ke arrives interrupts her. She apologizes for Jing Ke’s drunkenness and explains that it’s the result of her drinking for ten days to recover from an incident. Santa Alter then reveals herself to be Santa Claus, prompting Ushiwakamaru and company to attack her. After Santa Alter defeats them, Ushiwakamaru recounts to her of their encounter with the other Santa. She is then given her present, a ship, which she says she’ll board at night and take over it after killing the captain.
Event: Onigashima
Ushiwakamaru accompanies Ritsuka and Mash when they rayshift to the island they saw from Kyoto during the Rashoumon incident. The island's shape shocks her when the group is attacked by an Oni. After killing it, they realize the island is Onigashima, the legendary island of the Oni. Romani says he cannot pinpoint the island’s temporal coordinates, similar to Kyoto. He speculates the island was created as part of the abnormality when Ushiwakamaru mentions Onigashima never existed in her lifetime. On the subject of Onigashima, Ushiwakamaru recalls the tale of Momotarou and says if Ritsuka is Momotarou, then she is the dog. But seeing Fou wants to be the dog as well, she decides they must compete for the position. The two then race off towards the beach.[16]
But she finds Fuuma Kotarou unconscious, surrounded by Oni, and returns to get the others. After the group slays the oni, Kotarou regains consciousness and helps slay more oni. However, they’re soon surrounded, so Kotarou decides to use his Noble Phantasm to create a diversion. Ushiwakamaru warns, though, that they lack the strength to break through the oni. Suddenly though, Sakata Kintoki jumps from a nearby cliff on a motorcycle and helps slay the remaining oni.[16]
Proceeding to a mountain pass, Kotarou and Kintoki agree to help investigate the mystery of Onigashima. The two then do some recon while the others check the area. ash and Ushiwakamaru spot a forced human labor camp run by oni. Kotarou returns and reports there are more forced labor camps. He also found a way to the island’s peak, but it is blocked by three locked gates each guarded by great oni and a hired guard. The group then gets worried Kintoki hasn’t returned yet. Suddenly Romani and Kotarou detect something approaching, so the group hide and observe. They see higher-ranked oni leaving the camp. Given their ability to speak, Mash wonders if they can get information from them when Ushiwakamaru runs off towards them. However, the group spot a female Servant killing the oni and goes to help her. After the oni are slain and the Servant leaves, Ushiwakamaru notes how she seemed nostalgic. Kintoki then returns and reports he found something akin to a human settlement, so the group head there to get information.[17]
Ushiwakamaru tells Ritsuka they should settle the matter of their roles concerning the tale of Momotarou. She asks Mash what role she wants; Romani suggests Mash is the dog. Ushiwakamaru suggests the pheasant for Mash until she realizes that role is more fitting for Kotarou. She then tries to assign a role to Kintoki, but he stops her. She wonders if he knew she was going to assign him the role of the monkey. Realizing Kintoki also fits the role of Momotarou, Ushiwakamaru ponders implementing a double Momotarou system since Ritsuka is already Momotarou. But Kintoki says he's fine being the monkey, given that he grew up in the mountains. Now with the matter of their roles settled, the group move on to the first gate.[18]
The group arrives at the first gate and defeats Sasaki Kojirou and the great oni Kazakoemaru.[18] Afterward, they unlock and pass through the gate.[19]
Arriving in the oni’s human slave settlement, the group encounters Benkei. He tells them there is another settlement higher up. He was actually looking for the group when he ended up in the village. The group then leaves the village with Benkei.[20]
Eventually, the group encounters a checkpoint. Ushiwakamaru asks Benkei how he got past it. Benkei confesses he fell off the cliff and ended up in the previous settlement. Seeing the path is too narrow and steep to go around the checkpoint, the group decides to break through. Disguising himself as an oni, Kotarou takes the others as human slaves. He tells the oni guard they were requested by the great oni. The oni doubts Ushiwakamaru can do any work based on her small frame and shameless outfit. Benkei tells him she is a seductress and knocks her out to "eliminate" her as a threat to the oni. He then drags her unconscious body past the confused oni guard. After the oni are slain, Ushiwakamaru prepares to decapitate Benkei for his actions until she realizes they helped them pass through the checkpoint. She wonders why Benkei is so powerful on the island.[21]
Continuing on the pass, Benkei suggests they gather information at a teahouse in the settlement up ahead. He then gives Ushiwakamaru a flask of tea when she complains of thirst. However, Ushiwakamaru gets drunk from the tea and mistakes a jizo statue's face for her brother's. She takes it, but its head falls off during a fight with oni. Slaying the last oni, Ushiwakamaru chases the statue head into a cesspit. But upon reaching it, she abandons the statue altogether because her "perfect brother would never go to the toilet". But she is still drunk, seeing her brother in everything.[22]
The group then arrive at the second gate where they encounter Tamamo-no-Mae and the great oni Wazahamimaru.[23] After defeating them, the group unlock and pass through the second gate.[24]
Arriving in the settlement, the group finds Shuten-douji and Ibaraki-douji working at its teahouse. Shuten denies she and Ibaraki constructed the island and suggests they work together to defeat the mastermind of Rashoumon and Onigashima. But Kintoki rejects her offer and a fight ensues. Ushiwakamaru is left fatigued by her fight with Ibaraki, who unleashes her Noble Phantasm. However, Benkei uses his body to block it, and Ushiwakamaru disperses the flames with Kikenjō - Icicle Cutting after jumping from his shoulders. Struggling against the group, Ibaraki asks Shuten for the Grail to regain the power she had in Rashoumon. However, the Servant from before arrives, and Kintoki reveals she is Minamoto-no-Raikou. After forcing Shuten and Ibaraki to retreat, Raikou chases after them while the group continues their journey up the mountain.[25]
Arriving at the third final gate, the group encounter Kiyohime and the great oni Gorikimaru.[26] After defeating them, the group unlock and pass through the final gate.[27]
At the summit, they find Raikou standing before the Grail. Kintoki warns the others about getting closer, recognizing she isn't Raikou but her sealed oni self, Ushi-Gozen. Ushi explains how she created the island and its oni with the Grail and her Authority to create a refuge for those scorned by human society. Revealing she mortally wounded Shuten and slew Ibaraki a moment ago, she tries to convince Kintoki to join her as she constructed the island for him. She also reveals that she created the Rashoumon incident to make everyone kill each other by getting them intoxicated with the Grail’s wine. Kintoki refuses to join her and fights her with the others.[28]
As the group struggle against her, Ushi prepares to finish them off when Shuten ambushes her, only to be slain by her. Kintoki uses the opening Shuten created and defeats Ushi with Golden Spark. Though, in truth, she jumped into the lightning to knock herself out. Raikou soon wakes up, having no recollection of being Ushi. Despite that, though, she recognizes the incident as her fault and apologizes for her behavior. After Raikou disappears, Ushiwakamaru is disappointed she didn't get a chance to talk with her as a fellow Minamoto. Though she doubts Raikou would speak to a country bumpkin such as herself, Kintoki assures her that Raikou would, much to her joy.[29]
Later, however, Raikou returns, having used sheer will before she completely returned to the Throne because she forgot something. Ushiwakamaru praises her ancestor for tenacity, proud that she inherited the same blood. She tells Ritsuka to look forward to when she becomes her adult self. Benkei says she will never have Raikou's figure, however. For these roads, Ushiwakamaru drags Benkei behind a rock for punishment.[12]
Christmas Event: The Second Generation is Alter
Ushiwakamaru is drunk this year alongside Jing Ke and Mata Hari. They tease about making Tarasque into turtle soup. Martha soon notices Ritsuka and Jeanne Alter Santa Lily. Alter Lily criticizes the girls for getting drunk but hides in fear when Jing Ke drunkenly touches her. Martha then challenges her to fight her alongside the other girls. Alter Lily accepts and proceeds to defeat them. She then gives the girls their presents, all of which are detoxifiers. She scolds them for getting drunk and explains the medicine will help them keep to their duty as Servants. Ushiwakamaru is disappointed, thinking it's going to be tough being sober on Christmas. Upon hearing the detoxifiers were made by a Caster who wore white clothes, she, Jing Ke, and Mata Hari leave to kill him.
Seventh Singularity: Babylonia
Ushiwakamaru is one of Gilgamesh's Servants, along with Musashibou Benkei, Leonidas, and Merlin. She and Benkei hunt the Demonic Beasts surrounding Uruk.[6]
She and her fellow Servants eat with Ritsuka, Mash, Medusa, and Siduri at the Chaldean Embassy at night. She confirms she is the representative of the Heroic Spirits. As Gilgamesh summoned them, she and her fellow Servants know nothing about Chaldea. She warns if she and her fellow Servants were forced to choose between Gilgamesh and Ritsuka, they would choose Gilgamesh without hesitation. However, since their goals align, they will help in every way possibility to the best of their abilities.[6]
Ushiwakamaru and Benkei help Ritsuka and Mash investigate an affair that the armorer suspects his wife is having. The group follows the wife deep under Uruk, where they discover she is a member of a subterranean species plotting to invade the surface world. The group return to the surface after killing them. Ushiwakamaru then explains Uruk is currently under threat from three different directions; the Demonic Beasts from the north; the jungle to the south; Ishtar‘s aerial attack from the southeast. While Leonidas is keeping the Demonic Beasts at bay at the Northern Wall, there are no countermeasures against the other threats. Ishtar is a nuisance, comparable to an unpredictable storm. Nothing is known about the southern jungle, however, as none of the scouting parties Gilgamesh sent there ever returned. Ushiwakamaru wonders if the Alliance seeks to recreate the world in their own image after they destroy Uruk. Her confirmation that Gilgamesh indeed calls his Grail the Greater Grail of Uruk makes Ritsuka, Mash, and Romani realize it isn’t Solomon‘s.[6]
On another day, Ushiwakamaru helps get rid of some troublesome birds. However, she ended damaging up to four shops dealing with the birds flying low through the street. She welcomes back Ritsuka to the embassy after they return from cleaning the river later that evening. She then eats supper with Ritsuka’s party, Benkei, Leonidas, and Siduri.[6]
She and Beneki congratulate Ritsuka’s party on being tasked by Gilgamesh to investigate Ur after hearing about it from Siduri. They would like to join, but Leonidas sent for their aid at the Northern Wall. Ushiwakamaru and Benkei then spare with the group to see if they’re ready for the journey. While they’re reassured by their skills, they warn them that two Servants of Gilgamesh, Fuuma Kotarou and Amakusa Shhirou Tokisada, failed to return from the jungle. Benkei recalls Ibaraki, another Servant of Gilgamesh, deserting. Ushiwakamaru recalls scaring Ibaraki after she said she was going to form a bandit group. She then vows to take responsibility as a member of the Minamoto clan to take her head if she ever finds her, and guesses that Ibaraki is currently fuming in some ruins somewhere. She and Benkei then bid farewell to Ritsuka’s party.[30]
When Ritsuka’s party is tasked by Gilgamesh to retrieve the Tablet of Destinies from Kutha, Ushiwakamaru wishes she could accompany them. Benkei reminds her though that they need to head to the Northern Wall tomorrow to prepare for the operation to liberate Nippur. Ushiwakamaru explains Kutha is under Ishtar’s control, and it’s next to Gorgon’s territory. Because of the many powerful Demonic Beasts expected to be there, she warns the group to be wary.[31]
Ushiwakamaru and Benkei meet Ritsuka’s party again at the Northern Wall when they’re sent there to help liberate Nippur. She explains how the movements of the Demonic Beasts changed to patrol Nippur’s outskirts, suspecting a new commander has appeared to replace Girtablilu. Leonidas explains Ushiwakamaru and Benkei’s unit will distract the Demonic Beasts from the east. Meanwhile, Ritsuka’s party will enter Nippur from the west and rescue the citizens. Ritsuka voices concern for Ushiwakamaru and Benkei’s unit, but Ushiwakamaru assures Ritsuka that they’ll be fine. She also reveals Gilgamesh forbade them from entering Nippur. Leonidas then states the operation will be launched tomorrow evening.[32]
As she and Benkei battle the Demonic Beasts, they hear what Benkei thought to be an earthquake. He assumes it scared the beasts off and asks Ushiwakamaru to give him the order to take the soldiers and retreat to the Northern Wall. Ushiwakamaru however deduces the sound was something monstrous burrowing through the earth. Then, as Ritsuka’s party struggle against Gorgon in Nippur, Ushiwakamaru arrives to hold her off while they escape. She is seemingly killed in the confrontation. (In the anime adaptation, she fights Gorgon again following this encounter. She uses Dan-no-Ura - Eight-Boat Leap against her, and after wounding and weakening Gorgon, seemingly dies after unleashing her final strike.)[33]
Ushiwakamaru captured by Kingu.
Ushiwakamaru later finds herself in the Blood Fort, having been captured by Kingu. She overhears them giving directions to children on how to escape. Kingu tells her of their intent to turn her into a Demonic Beast, explaining the temple functions as a womb of sorts to produce Demonic Beasts at greater numbers than a maternal body could. Hearing the mind is converted last, Ushiwakamaru considers it foolish to do so since it only gives humans the chance to resist even after transforming. Kingu agrees and explains those used for materials are turned into goo to be placed into each Demonic Beasts’ adjustment tank. Ushiwakamaru asks them why they let the children escape. They explain that, unlike Gorgon, they only kill those they consider to be threats. Ushiwakamaru points out, though they merely answered a child’s cry for help. Because they’re unable to embrace complete cruelty, Ushiwakamaru tells Kingu that they’d be ridiculed on the battlefield as a clown. In response, Kingu decides to corrupt her into one of Tiamat’s children with the Chaos Tide.[33]
Final Singularity: Solomon
Ushiwakamaru is amongst the "Babylonia" Singularity Servants assisting Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars[34], and is seen personally escorting Ritsuka Fujimaru to Goetia in the animated film.[35]
Christmas Event: Merry Christmas from the Underworld
She and Benkei guard the fourth gate, though she constantly attacks him to keep herself warm in Kur's cold. It also to vent her frustrations towards Ereshkigal for ordering her to cultivate the land that lacks proper nutrients, much like herself right now. Benkei tells her that she will never have Raikou's figure. Ushiwakamaru decides to kill Benkei for his rudeness. Benkei replies that would only extend her sentence.
Ritsuka and Altera arrive and force an end to the fighting. Ushiwakamaru understands Altera is this year's Santa and is surprised she is bringing Ereshkigal a present. Benkei asks Altera which Christmas is Chaldea celebrating. Altera answers December 2017. Benkei realizes the time difference in Kur and whispers it to Ushiwakamaru. He asks her to keep it a secret, not wishing to complicate matters. Ushiwakamaru then asks Altera for alcohol, but she gets a picture of herself instead. Since she doesn't want it, Benkei takes it for himself. Altera tries again with a picture of Benkei, but Ushiwakamaru again refuses, forcing Ritsuka to ask her what she wants. Ushiwakamaru privately tells Altera what she wants, and she is gifted with a Craft Essence depicting Ritsuka and Mash. The gate opens, and Ushiwakamaru urges Ritsuka and Altera to hurry through it.
After they're gone, Benkei doubts he and Ushiwakamaru will remember anything once Ritsuka restores Kur to the proper time. But Ushiwakamaru finds what happens to the two of them to be of no consequence. She then commands Benkei to stay with her until she atones for her crimes. Benkei agrees, saying he will serve her until the day she meets her end.
Event: Oni Pagoda Festival
Ushiwakamaru is on the Oni Pagoda's 40th floor with Benkei. To her confusion, Benkei is desperately trying to get her to leave. Furthermore, Benkei asks her not to call him by his name for today. Ushiwakamaru decides to call him Captain Cosplay. Benkei then notices Ritsuka's party and prevents Ushiwakamaru from seeing them. Making the excuse it was a rat, he convinces Ushiwakamaru that Ritsuka wants her to go and surpass her own headhunting record. Ushiwakamaru tries to declare her name in dedication to this duty, but Benkei keeps interrupting her with Berserker roars. Benkei makes an excuse and convinces Ushiwakamaru to leap out the window without looking back, adding Ritsuka wants to see her do a dive from 40 stories. Ushiwakamaru proceeds to do so, telling an "absent" Ritsuka to behold her display of skill and agility.
Summer Event: Servant Summer Festival!
Ritsuka’s party is given the mission of investigate the Foreigner SHEBA detected in Hawaii. But since it isn’t a Singularity, they can’t rayshift and they can’t use Chaldea’s own transport as that would get the organization in trouble with the Mage’s Association. Therefore, they will have to fly commercially. But Jeanne Alter refuses to go in spirit form, insisting that everyone will ride as regular passengers. Leonardo da Vinci eventually concedes, saying she'll think of a way to conceal the Servants' outfits. She warns them, however, to behave themselves during the flight, or she will immediately hypnotize everyone on the plane, force them into the spirit forms, and make it impossible to turn back until they reach Hawaii. After everyone agrees to behave, Ritsuka’s party board their flight.
After arriving at their destination, Ushiwakamaru goes to exchange their money for US dollars. But instead she gets money with a picture of Gilgamesh on it and shows it to Ritsuka. The situation then turns even stranger when BB turns Hawaii into a Singularity, combining the islands into one she dubs the Luluhawa Singularity.
After killing a large and monstrous chicken, the group meet Blackbeard. He explains he is in Hawaii for ServantFes, a regular get-together for Chaldean and non-Chaldean Servants, which officially starts in six days. He also tells them that the Servants have agreed that there will be no “real combat” until ServantFes is over, despite the potential danger of a Foreigner being present. BB is this year’s manager of ServantFes and she admits she turned Hawaii into a Singulaitry so the convention can be bigger than ever and the Servants can cut loose without worrying about the Concealment of Mysteries. Once ServantFes is over, the Singularity will be dissolved and the islands will return to normal. She then shocks Ritsuka’s party by saying the most popular doujin club will be rewarded with a Holy Grail. After hearing Jeanne d'Arc's club won last year's ServantFes, Jeanne Alter forms the group into their own club, calling it Gespenst Ketzer. BB registers their club. As they know nothing about drawing doujin, Blackbeard decides to provide them with tips, but only if they defeat him first. After they do so, he directs them to the Shelton hotel where he reserved a suite.
Ritsuka’s party arrives at the Shelton and gets their room keys. Ushiwakamaru changes into her swimsuit, and when Ibaraki complains about not having one, she tells her she only has herself to blame for asking Scáthach to fiddle with her Spirit Origin beforehand like she did. The group then check into their room, where they see a mysterious object crash-land. Realizing it’s the Foreigner, they head for Waikiki Street.
There they see BB trying to fight the Foreigner, but she can’t defeat her since she is using all her powers keeping the tourists safe. The group takes over for her and force the Foreigner to retreat. She flies away, promising to destroy ServantFes. After BB leaves, Robin Hood advises they hone their skills and find inspiration in Luluhawa, all the while continuing their investigation. Jeanne Alter says they’ll purchase art supplies once they have the money to, then go look for stuff they want to draw.
The next evening, Jeanne Alter tells the others that she tried making an appointment with the printer, but the owner wasn’t there. Ushiwakamaru sees a portly man a in aloha shirt and wonders if he’s the owner of the printer. It quickly becomes apparent, though, that he is not. Everyone then returns to the hotel for dinner and to discuss story ideas.
Tomorrow afternoon, Ritsuka, Mash, Robin, and Ushiwakamaru go to the beach to take photos. There they meet Jeanne, who offers to give them swimming lessons, but they decline since they only came to get reference material. Medb then shows up and informs the group that she’ll be releasing a photo book of herself for ServantFes. Disliking her attitude, Ushiwakamaru asks Ritsuka if they can fight her. She accuses Medb of threatening Abigail Williams’ club to give her their club space when the latter says she negotiated with them for it. She describes her as someone who thinks they deserve everything just for being pretty and shouldn’t give anything in return, saying Lady Masako has nothing on her. In response, Medb insults Ushiwakamaru’s figure. The two of them then make it clear they hate everything about each other. Realizing a fight is about to ensue, Ritsuka has Robin hold Ushiwakamaru back. When Medb orders her men to remove the group from the beach, Ushiwakamaru begs Ritsuka for permission to cut her head off. She and Medb then fight, which Jeanne joins in on. The others soon stop the fight and Medb leaves, followed by Jeanne.
That night, as the group work on their doujin, Ushiwakamaru notices that Jeanne Alter’s drawing is imitation. She doesn’t mind though since she learned her fair share the same way. She tells Jeanne Alter that she only needs to improve her art now that she understands the fundamentals.
The next night, the group gets ready to go to a japanese restaurant for which they have a reservation at 7. They run into Blackbeard on the way and he tries to con them out of 150 Gil Bucks after taking a group photo with them. He gives up and apologizes, though, when Jeanne Alter draws one of her katanas. He is then suddenly blasted to the beach by the Foreigner, who is at the intersection about a hundred meters away.
Ritsuka’s party confront her, and she attacks them in a rage upon hearing BB call her an evil Foreigner. Thanks to her armor, she is unfazed by their attacks and she introduces herself as Foreigner Hunter XX. In response, BB installs Pele’s Divine Core and helps Ritsuka’s party force XX into retreating. Afterward, she explains she met Pele a month ago and copied her Divine Core. It was through Pele’s Authority that she made Luluhawa. She then leaves to repair some buildings, reminding the group that there’s only two days left until ServantFes. The group has dinner before returning to the hotel.
With six hours before ServantFes begins, Ritsuka’s party has only completed half of their doujin. As their manager, Robin advises sending what they have done to the printer and using the photocopies since they won’t finish in time. Everyone agrees, but even though they’re switching to photocopies, they still need to turn them into a book, which will take about three hours. They, therefore, decide to continue working until daybreak.
Ritsuka’s party arrives at the convention center an hour before ServantFes starts, having managed to make fifty photocopies. XX then suddenly attacks the convention centers five minutes before the convention starts. Ritsuka’s party fights her aided by Leonidas. Getting tired and hungry, XX decides to destroy the convention center by detonating her armor. Hassan of the Cursed Arm then arrives, having heard the commotion. After learning XX is going to self-destruct, he immediately takes her a safe distance away from the center. He survives the explosion, though, thanks to his Protect against Wind Skill. With one minute until opening, everyone gets ready.
ServantFes soon concludes. Jeanne Alter notes how people seemed to like their book, though there is still a copy left. But with the Foreigner defeated and ServantFes over, she expects the Singularity will dissolve soon enough and they’ll all return home tomorrow.
The next morning, however, the group finds themselves at the airport, not the hotel. BB has sent them back to their first day, and she now wants them to become of the best seller of their own complete professionally printed book. She has changed the rules because she disliked the idea of Medb, who was the best seller, using the Grail for selfish reasons. Jeanne Alter doesn’t believe her claims that she wants the Grail to be used for good and demands to know the real reason. BB reveals XX was the one that defeated Pele and made her lose her power. Taking the practically dead goddess into herself, BB devised a plan to forge a Grail forged from the passion of ServantFes attendees and have a good-hearted person use it to wish for peace for Hawaii, thus restoring Pele. She wanted Ritsuka to be that person, but everyone neglected their bookmaking duties, so Medb became the best seller. She then tells the group to use the Grail at Kilauea once they win it and wish for world peace. The energy of said wish would then restore Hawaii’s leyline and Pele both. She then leaves, saying she’ll await the group at the Mauna Kea Observatories on the seventh night.
After BB leaves, the group notices Ibaraki isn’t with them, even though they were sent back to the first day. Ushiwakamaru suspects it’s because she wasn’t part of their club. Regardless, Jeanne Alter sees the time loop as an opportunity for them to make the best doujin ever. She then gets Blackbeard to give them his hotel suite and asks why he chose the Shelton. Blackbeard tells the group to visit their neighbor after they check in, suspecting that Osakabehime will be a big help to them.
Immediately after checking into their room, Rituska’s party goes to Osakabehime’s room and asks for her help. Ushiwakamaru asks Osakabehime if Jeanne Alter’s request does not enrage her, considering that the latter just barged into her room and said she wanted to draw doujins with no prior experience. Osakabehime admits it is arrogant, to which Ushiwakamaru proposes cutting off Jeanne Alter’s head when she isn’t looking. But seeing that Jeanne Alter is dedicated, Osakabehime agrees to let her borrow her art tools and to teach her the basics. She then moves her things into the group’s room. It soon becomes time for XX’s first attack, so the group go drive her away. Though glad they’re all focused on making their doujin, Ushiwakamaru is still curious about what happened to Ibaraki.
Later that night, Robin informs everyone that Ibaraki is on a rampage. After Ibaraki flees following their battle, Ushiwakamaru proposes enlisting Raikou’s expertise to help with the oni. Robin and Mash are worried that may cause more trouble though.
The next morning, Jeanne Alter decides they should take a break now that their doujin is halfway done. Jeanne joins them for breakfast and tells them about the other doujin clubs.
That evening, Ritsuka’s party heads for the printer when Jeanne Alter remembers they couldn’t find the owner last time. Deciding to ask the other Servants, they soon run into Astolfo and ask him. He doesn’t know, but he recalls a big-shot that is likely a company owner. He says he is at the hotel during this time and the hotel’s owner.
Returning to the hotel, Jeanne Alter immediately asks the manager, Henry Jekyll, if the owner is in. He tells her that the owner is at the beach, so the group immediately rushes over there. The owner turns out to be Gilgamesh, though he lost his memory because of reasons and now calls himself Gorgeous P. Jeanne Alter asks if he owns the printer. Queen of Sheba confirms he does and says their company offers printing five minutes before the convention starts and even after it has already started. They do so by sending the printer into Imaginary Number Space, inverting cause and effect so printing is finished when a customer finishes their final draft. But Gilgamesh wants the group to show their resolve in battle to see if it’s worth printing their work. He sees they are determined and permits them the usage of his printer.
The next morning, Jeanne Alter struggles to put her ideas to paper and allows the others to take a break. She wants them to take pictures of girls in swimsuits, though, but not Jeanne, since they have the same build. Mash asks her what girl does she want a picture of, to which Jeanne Alter gives a description that matches Medb. Ritsuka, Mash, Robin, and Ushiwakamaru then head for the beach.
Medb immediately denies their request to take pictures of her. She calls them weak and pathetic, and is mad that they stand out more than her. It makes her want to squish them like bugs, especially Ushiwakamaru. Ritsuka tries to stop Medb and Ushiwakamaru from fighting when XX arrives. However, to her and Medb’s surprise, the photographers who once surrounded Medb start taking pictures of XX, amusing Ushiwakamaru and upsetting the Celtic queen. The photographers soon flee in response to Medb’s anger. Medb then helps the others force XX to retreat. After XX is gone and Medb leaves, the group return to the hotel.
The next day, Ushiwakamaru accompanies Mash when Jeanne Alter sends the latter out to take pictures. Later, with two days before ServantFes, Ritsuka’s party is nearly finished with their doujin. They try to continue working when they get a call from Jekyll, who asks them to drive XX away from Main Street. The group drives her away, followed by destroying a replica of Twrch Trwyth. BB reminds them they have two days left and leaves to repair the buildings. The group then return to the hotel.
Ritsuka, Mash, Robin, and Ushiwakamaru go to the beach while Jeanne Alter takes a nap. There they see Medb had set up a beauty contest for herself. While they could ignore it, Ushiwakamaru points out that Medb’s ability to garner men’s attention could cost them ServantFes the more popular she becomes. Medb boasts her photo book will sell more than anything and denies she is using her contest to garner attention and gain an advantage at ServantFes. She then challenges Ushiwakamaru to beat her in her contest, which Ushiwakamaru accepts despite the others’ objections. She gets relatively good scores, but the judges still like Medb better. After Medb gives her a backhanded compliment about not getting all zeroes, however, she criticizes Medb’s contest for not having any other contestants. Medb replies that more contestants are coming, though she still feels her victory is assured. Other swimsuit Servants then arrive to take part in Medb’s contest; Mash also takes part after it was announced Medb wanted her to. Medb, however, puts herself back in the contest as a last-minute entrant three times, using her regular outfit, warden outfit, and swimsuit, and gets perfect scores across the board. She denies that she cheated, saying she never said contestants couldn’t enter multiple times. She then leaves the group with a condescending compliment that they may sell a tenth of what she’ll sell. Afterward, Ritsuka’s party return to the hotel and wake Jeanne Alter up with Jeanne’s help.
Later that night, Ritsuka's party finish their doujin and get the final draft to the printer. The next day, Medb wins ServantFes, so the group will have to go through another loop.
On the night of another loop, Ushiwakamaru and Mash join Ritsuka and Jeanne Alter when Kintoki gives them a ride to Mauna Kea. However, he can only get them halfway up the mountain as that it is where the road ends. There Jeanne Alter gives some trivia about the mountain.
The next day, Jeanne Alter, understanding they all have their suspicions about BB, decides they should ask the other Servants to determine if BB is telling the truth or not while continuing to work on their doujin. Later that night, the group make tremendous progress on the story, even though it’s only the third day. When jeanne Alter says she’ll even take a cat as an assistant, Tamamo Cat bursts into the room with Boudica, whom she dragged with her. Boudica agrees to cook for everyone, but she requires more ingredients, specifically chicken. Ritsuka, Mash, Robin, and Ushiwakamaru go out and hunt several giant chickens. They run into Blackbeard, who’s surprised they’re halfway done with their doujin. But he also pities them because he knows Medb is going to be the best seller, which upsets him to the point of killing one of his crew members for wanting to buy one of her photo books. He offers to help the group if they get a chance to ruin Medb’s beauty contest.
The next night, Ritsuka’s party follows the sound of Edmond Dantès’ laughter and finds him fighting Ibaraki. After they help him drive her away, he correctly presumes they want to ask him about BB and reveals he knows about the time loop. After hearing what BB’s supposed goal is, he suspects she sicced Ibaraki on him. He then asks Robin to lend him his cloak so he may follow BB, knowing Robin can’t do it. After he gets it, he leaves to investigate Luluhawa.
During a cookout, Ushiwakamaru doubts they’ll win ServantFes regardless of their doujin’s quality. She also wants something done about Medb’s contest, and knowing they stand no chance in a beauty contest, tries to think of how to change it into something they can win. Yan Qing and Alexander notice something is bothering her and offer to help. After hearing Medb’s contest is rigged in her favor, Alexander decides they must turn the contest into one where victory is indisputable, like sports or a martial arts match. Ushiwakamaru doubts Medb would agree to change the rules, knowing that she only cares about winning. She knows it’s pointless for Yan Qing to disguise himself as Medb because unless Medb herself admits defeat, her accomplices would twist the situation to her advantage. Alexander calls on El-Melloi II to devise a strategy. El-Melloi II points out that Medb’s weakness is that she cannot allow herself to lose while in a position of popularity. He then explains his plan, for which Yan Qing will be key, to Medb to accept a challenge.
With one day left before ServantFes, Ritsuka’s party prepares to sabotage Medb’s popularity so she doesn’t make the most sales per El-Melloi II’s plan. Yan Qing, having disguised himself as Medb, changed the queen’s contest from a beauty contest to a beach volleyball match. Medb soon arrives, annoyed that Moriarty bribed her sponsors, and summons Cú Chulainn, who was handcrafting elsewhere, for the volleyball match. Cú Chulainn then loses to Ushiwakmaru, loses and leaves after Medb does. Ritsuka’s party believe the loss greatly reduced her popularity, so now it’s all up to their doujin to win ServantFes.
XX attacks the convention center five minutes before the convention starts. With the help of Ibaraki, Ritsuka’s party defeat her and break off her armor. To their shock (expect Ibaraki who’s oblivious), she looks like Mysterious Heroine X. Refusing to say anything beyond saying her targets are other Foreigners, XX, calling herself Heroine XX, redons her armor and flies off. Ritsuka’s party still didn’t become the best seller so they go through another loop.
Ritsuka’s party repeats what they did on the first day of the second loop, but this time they have Ibaraki to help. They rush to Waikiki Street, intending to speak with XX before BB shows up, and end up saving Oei. XX confesses her primary order is to eliminate the Foreigners, followed by ServantFes and the Singularity. The group defeat her in battle and she reveals she is also caught in the time loop. But she refuses to talk with them further, believing they’re on BB’s side, and leaves. BB then arrives, surprise to see XX gone and Oei still alive. She tries to ask the group for a favor, but they rush back to the hotel when Mash gets a message saying the final draft is in trouble.
Getting back to their room, they find Edmond there and he confesses he sent the message as a way of warning them without alerting BB. He tells them that XX is the key to unraveling the Singularity’s mysteries, so they must bargain with her and get her on their side. The group goes out and convinces Oda Nobunaga to talk with XX when she next attacks.
Later on, they assist Oei and Abigail in fending off Medb, ensuring their club space isn’t taken over if they lost. Afterward, Jeanne Alter asks Oei for art lessons. Grateful and wanting to repay the group, Oei agrees to teach her.
Soon after, Ritsuka’s party waits with Nobunaga for XX to arrive so they can negotiate. XX shows up and inadvertently mentions her hideout is in Kileau, prompting Jeanne Alter to wonder if she took it after defeating Pele. When XX adopts a combat stance, Nobunaga tries to de-escalate things, but ends up provoking her instead—complaining about not having a swimsuit and calling her armor cosplay. In response, XX sheds her armor, revealing she’s been wearing a swimsuit the entire time. During her rant about being forced to work while everyone else enjoys vacation, she accidentally reveals she was deployed to Hawaii due to a No. 3 Outer God reading. After being defeated by Ritsuka’s group, she warns them she’ll use her Anti-Planet Noble Phantasm to obliterate Luluhawa on the seventh morning. Once she leaves, Nobunaga casually suggests finding XX a new job.
That night, joined by Nobunaga and Edmond, the team tracks XX to her camp at Kileau. XX attempts to kill them for witnessing her rather undignified living conditions. As she begins charging her Noble Phantasm, Nobunaga interrupts and offers her a job, saying they’re trying to recruit her. She hands Ritsuka the contract to give to XX, knowing she hates her current role. Finding the new working conditions agreeable, XX “accidentally” destroys her antenna for Galactic Police HQ. Now happily part of Chaldea, she leaves to enjoy her paid vacation, saying she’ll answer questions the next day. After she’s gone, Jeanne Alter asks Edmond to regularly check in on Kileau.
With only one night before ServantFes, Ritsuka invites Jeanne, Osakabehime, and Oei to help finish Jeanne Alter’s story in time. Just as they near the end, Oei accidentally deletes all their work. Luckily, Robin had been backing up the data every 15 minutes. The group pulls an all-nighter and manages to complete the story by morning. Robin distributes copies on USBs and urges everyone to keep one. As they rush to the printer, they discover Gilgamesh is already at the convention center. Just as they try to follow, Medb’s soldiers ambush them. Fortunately, Edmond appears and holds off the Celtic warriors. He also arranged for Astolfo and Kintoki to give the team a ride. The group splits up—Ushiwakamaru, widely considered one of Japan’s most formidable Heroic Spirits, rides with Kintoki, while Ritsuka and Jeanne Alter take Astolfo’s Hippogriff.
Ritsuka and Jeanne Alter manage to print the story, which becomes the best seller at ServantFes. After receiving the Grail from Gilgamesh, Edmond informs them that BB was never at Kileau, contrary to Jeanne Alter’s suspicions. Jeanne Alter then declares that the final battle will take place at the Mauna Kea Observatories, where Pele awaits.
On the seventh night, the party ascends Mauna Kea. Jeanne Alter notes it’s odd BB would ask them to meet there—Pele hated the place. Even stranger, the Foreigner Chaldea detected couldn’t have been XX, who only arrived after they checked into the Shelton. Then, Mash realizes Chaldea’s Hawaiian branch wasn’t unreachable due to the Singularity—it had vanished. BB appears and reveals that she sent the branch and all observatories into Imaginary Number Space. Altering her form and the landscape, BB questions why they didn’t use the Grail like she planned. Ritsuka makes it clear: they don’t trust her. BB explains that while prepping ServantFes with Pele last month, she visited Chaldea’s Hawaiian branch and peered through their telescope—locking eyes with an Outer God and synchronizing with it. To erase the evidence, she shifted all mountain facilities into Imaginary Space. She confirms she was the Foreigner Chaldea detected and that the Outer God’s Authority is “reserving time.” However, because she didn’t fully merge with the Outer God, her class remains MoonCancer. Declaring herself both MoonCancer and Foreigner, BB reveals she intended to reset everyone back to day one without memories. She also claims that using the Grail would erase the Singularity—and the planet—since it grants the inverse of the wisher’s intent. BB tries to turn Robin into a pig, but he counters it using a spell Circe taught him. XX then joins the fight to help Ritsuka’s team.
Despite their efforts, BB nearly overwhelms them—until XX activates her Noble Phantasm and confiscates the Outer God’s Authority, restoring BB to her normal state. Gilgamesh appears and announces that ServantFes will be extended one more day, calling for a celebration on Sheba’s tab. XX takes BB into custody, promising they’ll both return for the party. Ritsuka’s group notices BB dropped several versions of the book created throughout the loops. Jeanne Alter sees two identical copies—one from this loop, and one from a prior—and quietly struggles with the paradoxical truth of her story. Meanwhile, everyone else celebrates.
Summer vacation ends, and the group returns to the airport. Chaldea’s Hawaiian branch and the observatories reappear from Imaginary Number Space. Just as they prepare to board their flight, BB returns and announces all flights have been permanently grounded. She needs their help to remove Pele’s Spirit Origin from her own—something even the Grail can’t accomplish—so she can get rid of her tan before returning to Chaldea. She explains the Singularity won’t resolve until Pele’s influence fades. After the group agrees to help, she reveals she’s created clones of herself and scattered them across Luluhawa. Once all four are defeated, her body should revert. Ritsuka’s party succeeds, and BB loses her tan. She grants them another Grail and confirms the Singularity will end, restoring Luluhawa to the Hawaiian Islands. Everyone bids the islands farewell.
Interlude
Love is Not Free
Due to stabilization issues, Ushiwakamaru, Ritsuka and Mash are accidentally rayshifted to an island. Traversing through a forest into another coastline, the group is told by Romani Archaman that it will take longer for him to stabilize the Rayshift system. During this time, Ushiwakamaru asks Ritsuka to tell her a story about themselves. After Ritsuka tells their story, Ushiwakamaru asks if she’s useful to them. Glad to hear their answer, she recounts how others, including her brother, misunderstood until her death. Comparing Ritsuka to Ise Yoshimori, she expresses gratitude to Ritsuka for taking time to speak with their Servants personally. Mash contacts Romani about the Rayshift, but he tells the group that they need to remove the instability in the area before he can rayshift them back. Mash guesses a nearby ship is the source of the instability, so Ushiwakamaru jumps to the ship to bring it to shore. The ship’s undead crew attack her, but she still brings the ship to shore. She and others slay the undead crew, but their vengeful spirits, the source of the instability, raise to attack the group. After slaying the spirit to stabilize the area, Ushiwakamaru expresses her disappointment that Ritsuka couldn’t see her fight. She then asks for them to pat her on the head.
Fate/Requiem
Ushiwakamaru cooking tempura manju.
Ushiwakamaru is the Servant of Rurihime. She works part-time making tempura manju at a stall at Yushima Tenmangū, the shrine run by Rurihime's family. Rurihime calls her by the nickname Shana-kun (シャナくん, Shana-kun?).[3]
The Boy Among the Stars
Ushiwakamaru participates in the Holy Grail Tournament as part of a team alongside Barbarossa and Jacques de Molay. The emcee Circe introduces her with the name Minamoto Kurou Yoshitsune (源九郎義経?). She reacts uncomfortably towards cheers of "Ushiwaka" from the crowd of the tournament, but eventually responds to the cheers by waving.[8]
She manages to survive Nzambi's zombie attack on the tournament and is seen alive at its end with Rurihime. She is shown collecting the heads of her enemies to present to her Master. The pair comfort Koharu F Riedenflaus, who is crestfallen after she watched the zombified Hannibal be killed by Longinus.[36]
Nostalgic City Shinjuku
Ushiwakamaru energetically greets Rurihime when she returns home from school, jumping at her while still dressed in her apron from her part-time job. She gives some tempura to Voyager. When Rurihime takes Erice Utsumi's place as Nightwatch, Ushiwakamaru is excited for her and vows to help her, but also wary of Rurihime getting hurt. She privately speaks to Erice and says that if it comes to it she will sacrifice herself for Rurihime to escape, and Karin chides Ushiwakamaru for not caring about her own safety as well.[3]
Melty Blood: Type Lumina
Ushiwakamaru Story
In this story Ushiwakamaru is summoned to Souya by Neco-Arc, this Ushiwakamaru is a different summon from Chaldea's version, however she was summoned recognizing Mash's Shield being used as a catalyst. Assuming Mash was the one who summoned her, she broke her formal speech in joy before being met by the strange cate. Intended to be used by Neco-Arc to teach the residents of the Melty Blood universe a lesson, Ushiwakamaru instead cuts Neco-Arc into submission and leaves with her to enjoy the modern world while looking for Mash. Eventually while she was setting a picnic for herself with Mash's handmade lunch, she comes across Miyako Arima. There, she offered to share food until Miyako attacks her after sensing her connection to Neco-Arc. After their battle, Miyako directs her to the Tohno Manor to fight a strong foe. Upon entering the mansion, she declares a challenge from the residents and is met with Akiha Tohno and Kohaku. Confused and startled by her attire, Akiha asks Kohaku to give her a new change of clothes while commenting on her current wear, before Kohaku interrupts her and asks the implications of letting a woman like Ushiwakamaru in the mansion with Shiki currently living in it. A fight ensues, ending with Ushiwakamaru victorious, however a bond was shortly forged between the two of them. After she explained her situation to Akiha, Akiha then asks if she would like to stay in Souya to see more of the modern world, after she breaks her alliance with Neco-Arc. At the end of her story, Ushiwakamaru enrolls in Shiki's high school under a new alias as "Midoriko Usui", introduced by her homeroom teacher, "Arumi".[5]
Boss Rush 3
In this story residents of the "F" Universe (Ushiwakamaru, Edmond Dantes, and Mash Kyrielight) are summoned by Neco-Arc to fight in a tournament organized by her and pitted against the residents of the Melty Blood Universe (Shiki Tohno, Arcueid Brunstud, Ciel, and Akiha Tohno) for supremacy. There, Ushiwakamaru is very reluctant to be the Servant of Neco-Arc and wishes to be out of her contract as soon as possible. When it comes to her match in the tournament, she unexpectedly faces Shiki rather than Akiha like Neco-Arc planned. However, he earns her respect and a serious battle with her after he explains that he is taking his sister's place in order to protect her. She loses to Shiki, but compliments his skills and abilities, much to his shock. She is then given an offer by Akiha to contract with her instead of Neco-Arc, after she noticed Ushiwakamaru's visible and audible distress under Neco-Arc during the tournament announcement, and gladly accepts. After witnessing the end of Neco-Arc, she, Mash, the residents of Tohno Manor, Ciel, and Arc banded together to help Mash find a way back home. A week later, they find a portal back to Chaldea, however, she decides to respectfully stay behind as she knows Chaldea already has their own Ushiwakamaru staying there.[7]
Abilities
Ushiwakamaru is a genius swordsman and an excellent tactician.[2][11] It would be no exaggeration to say that Ushiwakamaru (Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune) is the most famous military commander in Japanese history, and one of the strongest Heroic Spirits Japan has to offer. Probably only someone like Oda Nobunaga possesses a popularity that rivals hers.[2]
Combat
Her sword is Usumidori (薄緑?), being the sword that beheaded the Earth Spider, said to have belonged to her ancestor Minamoto-no-Raikou.
Skills
Class Skills
- Magic Resistance (C Rank): Cancels spells with a chant below two verses. Cannot defend against magecraft on the level of greater magecraft and Greater Rituals.[1][2]
- Riding (A+ Rank): All vehicles and all creatures up to the level of Phantasmal Beast and Divine Beast can be used as mounts. However, that does not apply to members of the Dragon Kind.[1][2] Her mount is a white horse called Tayuuguro.[2]
Personal Skills
- Tengu's Art of War (A Rank): A Skill derived from the anecdote of Ushiwakamaru having learned the arts of war from a Tengu - an existence beyond humans. Provides bonuses to close-combat power such as swordsmanship, archery and spearmanship, as well as Skills such as Tactics and Magic Resistance.[1][2]
- Charisma (C+ Rank): Although she is in a form that not everyone likes, there is a strange charm to her that attracts people the closer they get to her.[1]
- Feat of the Swallow (B Rank): With her body as light as a swallow, at the Gojo-ohashi bridge, she has dodged Benkei's terrifying slashes not once but twice.
Noble Phantasm
Her Noble Phantasm is the Wandering Tales of Shana-oh, the embodiment of numerous legends that were born after Ushiwakamaru became Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune and traveled to Oshu. This Noble Phantasm comprises five secret techniques, including Dan-no-Ura - Eight-Boat Leap.[1]
Forms and Alternate Versions
Berserker
- Main article: Berserker
Blackened by the Chaos Tide of Tiamat, Ushiwakamaru is corrupted and converted into the Berserker Class.
Swimsuit
The Tengu girl who was the talk (probably) of the mountains of Kurama is ready to hit the beach! It turns out this great strategist also knew how to have a good time! Swimsuit Ushiwakamaru is no longer the Ushiwakamaru you knew; her agility, her divine power, and her skimpy swimsuit make her the true Tengu maiden of Kurama.
"My fleet feet and the beautiful natural scenery all around... My memories of training in the mountains are returning to me! Oh, the fan? It's a hand-me-down from my mentor, so please don't let it bother you!"
After being surrounded by Hawaii's natural beauty (and putting on her swimsuit), Ushiwakamaru somehow reverted to how she was during her wild and free-spirited days training at Mt. Kurama.
Her master's words echo in her mind. "Play is the ultimate form of training." And so while she fulfills her duty as a Servant, she is ever alert for a chance to play (train) with Master. If you have some spare time, go ahead and play with her.
Personality
She's...a bit immature and mischievous, but the clear thinking and almost inhuman rationality at Ushiwakamaru's core remain intact. Because she is closer to a tengu now, her attitude of, "I'm a tengu, so I'm stronger than humans," gives her a sense of superiority (not that she rubs it in, she's just matter-of-fact about it). Part of why this version of Ushiwakamaru is so mischievous is because she can't help but think, "I need to punish (teach) those humans who don't realize what fools they are! (Haughty laugh)" Looks like she puts herself on a bit of a pedestal compared to humans.
"That human really is incorrigible. Okay, I'm going to make right by mocking them."
However, she shows no mercy for those who commit evil deeds such as murder. "They don't deserve punishment. I simply have to cut them to ribbons."
Abilities
Class Skills:
- Presence Concealment (C- Rank): As a result of playing (training) in the mountains, she has mastered the art of hiding in the middle of nature. She can’t display the effect that much in a city.[15]
- Independent Action (A+ Rank): There were many animal friends at the mountain of Kurama. That’s why I’m quite fine even if I’m alone![15]
- Riding (A+ Rank): Talent in mounting. Can mount any kind of ride, but can’t mount the Dragon Kind. In case of mounting the animals of the mountain she connected her heart with, there’s a plus modifier.[15]
Personal Skills:
- Animal Communication (D Rank): Mutual understanding of intention with animals that don’t use words is possible. It’s something that happens because of the youthful senses of when she ran around the mountain, so it was lost when she got down from the mountain (when she’s a Rider). It’s not like she properly speaks the language of animals, it’s purely feeling. Normally, leaking tanuki-like words may be a remnant of the training days of the past. Also, when asked about why the Assassin class,「In order to get a wooden sword from my teacher while he was asleep, I earnestly practiced invisibility with the animals of the forest as my training partners, so there it is」「No way, an Assassin just because of that?」「Yes. I mean, I’m a genius」[15]
- Tengu's Art of Play (Summer) (EX Rank): The style of playing at the mountain taught by the tengu. But to Ushiwakamaru that holds the same meaning as training. Due to her teacher teaching her that the way of living at the mountain, the way of playing and everything is training. Skipping about the trees like a monkey, setting foot and crossing over rocks like a deer, swimming across the river like a charr. Super-high speed mountain style parkour… or something like that. Of course, even if she goes to the sea that way of using her body is greatly useful. (Being able to apply it) surely was useful for the Eight-Boat Leap.[15]
- Heaven-Sent Child of Kurama (A+ Rank): Protection granted by 『something』 existing in the mountains of Kurama. Ushiwakamaru likely trusts it’s 「the protection of the tengu of the mount」, but details are unknown. Ms. H: 「…The etymology of “Kurama” is a dark mountain, and its former name was Kurabuyama. But what if it was called “Kumara” a long time ago…?」[15]
Noble Phantasm
Ushiwakamaru's Noble Phantasm is Tengu's Feather Fan - Sudden Gale.[15]
Overseer Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune
Overseer Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune (九郎判官源義経, Kurō Hōgan Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune?) is the purified form of Ushiwakamaru's adult Spirit Origin.
After Taira-no-Kagekiyo was forcibly ejected from her body and subsequently slain following a battle with Chaldea, Yoshitsune is restored to normal. As a result of the Spirit Origin having been created using Kiichi Hougen's Mallet of Fortune, she returns to Ushiwakamaru soon after the mallet's magical energy wears off.[38][37]
Yoshitsune was the wielder of the rainmaking relic Hatsune no Tsuzumi that was made using Osakabehime parents. Genkurougitsune followed Yoshitsune out of love for his parents and eventually received the relic from Yoshitsune. It is said that Genkurougitsune was so moved by this that later on he saved Yoshitsune from danger many times. And Genkurougitsune is indeed Osakabehime's little brother.[39]
Additionally, at the time (and even now), Dai-Jizai Ten was often confused with Ishana TenWP, the king of a place named Take-Jizai Ten, due to their similar names. Ishana Ten is considered to be on the same god as Izanagi, the ancestor god of Japan. And, due to how its name is pronounced, he is associated with Shana-ou (Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune). Since Yoshitsune was, even at the time, considered the originator of the samurais’ militarization, Ishana is implied to be connected to both Japan and the origin of samurais.[40]In Japan Yoshitsune is one of those heroes every kid knows about.[41]
The Downhill Attack of Hiyodorigoe was a tactic of a heroic warrior named Minamoto no Yoshitsune. A Japanese story about one time when he made two horses descend from a cliff, and with one horse confirming that he could make it down unscathed, he struck a horseback surprise attack.[42]
Personality
While describing herself as having come from the Ushiwakamaru of Chaldea, she is not the same individual as her, being considerably stronger. Nevertheless, she retains Ushiwakamaru's desire to serve as a dutiful blade to her Master and hopes to serve faithfully if she is summoned again as an Avenger.[37] Ushiwakamaru describes if you were to summon her as a Minamoto that is, when she had a position she would probably appear different. Yoshitsune is a cold-blooded warrior who brought death upon many compatriots, and never corrected her foolishness until the very end.[6] Benkei says when Yoshitsune was commanding them as a warrior for the Genji clan. Well, she still had moments of lighthearted mischief, but she was first and foremost a cold, calculating general who strove for perfection in all of her actions and pursuits.[43] Yoshitsune has regret and love for Minamoto-no-Yoritomo.[44]
Development
Creation and Conception
Ushiwakamaru was designed by Mineji Sakamoto in Fate/Grand Order.[1][2] Her scenario writers are Yuuichirou Higashide and Nasu Kinoko in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Her character design in Melty Blood: Type Lumina is a simplified version of her design in the Craft Essence Heroic Spirit Tour: Ushiwakamaru of Fate/Grand Order.
Comment from Illustrator
"I thought about giving her a handgun but I gave it up." (Mineji Sakamoto) [15]

Profile
In Japan, this ill-fated military commander is famous to the point of being said that there is nobody who does not know her name. Possessing inborn talent, despite her charisma she was shunned by elder brother - Yorimoto - and in the end was defeated together with her attendants such as Benkei. Ushiwakamaru is Minamoto no Yoshitsune's childhood name.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Gender: Female
The name of the horse she mounts is Tayuuguro.
Level 2 Bond
It would be no exaggeration to say that Ushiwakamaru (Minamoto no Yoshitsune) is the most famous military commander in Japanese history. Probably only someone like Oda Nobunaga possesses a popularity that rivals hers.
..however, there are many obscure points in regards to history, and especially the early half of her life from before raising an army is wrapped in mystery.
Level 3 Bond
- Tengu's Art of War: A
Personal Skill. Derived from the anecdote of having learned the arts of war from a Tengu - an existence beyond humans.
Provides bonus to close-combat power such as swordsmanship, archery and spearmanship, as well as Skills such as Military Tactics and Magic Resistance.
Level 4 Bond
It has been told that at eleven years-old, while she was under the care of the Kurama Temple, Ushiwakamaru met with the onmyouji Kiichi Hougen (some theories say that he was also the Kurama Tengu) and was awarded with the arts of war. While there is no doubt that she was an excellent tactician, Yoshitsune lacked something vital.
Level 5 Bond
That is fear towards the battlefield. All through life, she was incompatible with the other military commanders. That Yorimoto even held killing intent towards Yoshitsune was probably something that she never came to understand in her entire life. For, since she was a genius, concern towards abilities was something that did not exist in her.
Interlude
The formal name of her Noble Phantasms is "Wandering Tales of the Mahavairocana King".
The many legends that Ushiwakamaru accomplished until her death embodied as secret techniques, other than the present Eight Boats Hopping there are also four others remaining.牛若丸 - ライダー

牛若丸(源義経)は日本史上、もっとも有名な武将と言っても過言ではない。
