HephaestusWP (ヘファイストス, Hefaisutosu?) is one of the Twelve Machine Gods appearing in the Atlantic Lostbelt in Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Background
Hephaestus, the Greek God of Fire and the Forge and the husband of Aphrodite.
Within the world of the Atlantic Lostbelt, there was a shift from the Proper Human History in 12,000 BC that ultimately led to the Age of Gods continuing into the modern day. Hephaestus still exists in 2019.
The Olympians held a vote 12000 years ago on whether to continue their rule with Hades, Apollo, Athena, Ares, Hephaestus and Hestia voting no, with Zeus, Artemis, Hera, Demeter, Aphrodite and Poseidon killing them in response.
After his death and defeat by Zeus, Hephaestus's wreckage was scavenged and reused by Zeus in order for him to maintain maintenance of Olympus by merging what remained of him with the Titan, Prometheus and transforming them both into the maintenance core temple. However despite saving him and similarly to Artemis and Poseidon, Hephaestus's mind was severely altered and changed by Zeus in order to maintain control of him and insure his continued loyalty, effectively only leaving a small silvers of his original consciousness within the core and leaving him as nothing more than AI that maintains repairs and upkeep of Olympus.
Personality
Apollo describes Lostbelt Hephaestus' personality as being pretty much the same as the Hephaestus from Proper Human History, who tends to be considered a gloomy, uptight, can't-look-away-from-your-forge-for-a-minute type of spouse. Though he speaks robotically like a machine, he also has shown himself to have a sense of humor, as he shows Orion a simulation of his teddy bear form dying graphically as a joke.
He hates Apollo.
Role
Fate/Grand Order
Atlantis: Ocean in the Age of Titans
At its bottom they activate the Hephaestus terminal. Hephaestus tests Orion to see if he can execute the plan to destroy Artemis. The first test is an anti-Artemis simulation battle, so Hephaestus utilizes data from the Servant closest to Artemis in the Proper History. He then asks Orion if he can destroy his beloved as the second test. Orion answers he'll destroy her out of pity, which Ritsuka affirms is reason enough. Hephaestus accepts this, and agrees to forge Orion's bow. After being given Achilles' armor, he begins the two hour forging process. He gives his remaining Klironomia, and warns Orion's shot will not reach Artemis on this island or the nearby island. He play a message from a Archer from the Proper History to explain it better. It reveals the only island where a shot can reach Artemis is the one beneath her.[1][2][3][4]
Abilities
Hephaestus was originally one of the Twelve Machine Gods until Zeus went berserk and killed all those who opposed him, Hephaestus included. Despite having been reduced pieces scattered through different islands in Atlantis, Hephaestus retained all his data and most of functionalities.[2] Da Vinci states his remnants surpass anything at Chaldea, making them more advanced than even the most cutting edge tech of modern day Proper Human History.[1] A few months prior to the arrival of Chaldea to the Atlantic Lostbelt, 56.4% of Hephaestus's data was stolen by Olympus. This loss was caused by Senji Muramasa, who severed his head unit with a single strike.[2] Despite having received such damage in the unit where his data was stored, Hephaestus still retained his ability to forge Divine Constructs,[2][3] as seen when he reforged Achilles' Armor into the bow Aegis Eclipse and two arrows for Super Orion to strike down Artemis.[3]
After his "death" at the hands of Zeus during the divergence of history in the Atlantic Lostbelt, Hephaestus was noted to have been stripped of a majority of his powers as a god and was completely relegated to only focus on using his remaining abilities and powers in maintaining the upkeep of Olympus together with Prometheus.
Chiron states that Hephaestus Klironomia is simply outmatched when pitted against the superior Zeus Klironomia. Hephaestus may have been a god, but he was a "hapless fool" of a god whose one and only talent was swinging a hammer.[4]
