The Crimson Codex (紅玉の書, Kōgyoku no Sho?, "Ruby Book") is a sentient western spellbook that was an heirloom of Miyamoto Musashi left to Miyamoto Iori, involved in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile
Background
A sentient spellbook that has a will of his own. He floats in the air, and speaks like a human. He is Iori's magecraft teacher and self-proclaimed substitute for Musashi after his death.[1]
The leather of its cover is made from the skin of a rare Hippogriff. The reason it's capable of thought and speech is because he simulates the personality of the magus whose soul is bound with the book. He is an intelligent life created through magecraft, but in a completely different field of study from Homunculi.[2]
It is stated that he traveled with the male Musashi over half of his lifetime. He asserts to this day that it was his keen insights that prompted Musashi to write the Book of Wind. He considers Musashi his friend.[3]
Appearance
Personality
The Crimson Codex is knowledgeable about both history and magecraft from lands outside Japan. In addition to teaching Iori Jewel Magecraft, he identifies the Waxing Moon as a type of Holy Grail and deduces that the Waxing Moon Ritual must be based on a non-Japanese ritual. He is also the one who tells Iori and Saber of Lancer's identity as Jeanne d'Arc, as he recognizes her face while they had never heard of her before.
Role
Fate/Samurai Remnant
He instructs Iori and Saber about the protection of Iori's Magical Workshop and the inner details of the control and fighting over Edo's Ley Lines and Spirit Fonts.
At the end of the game Crimson Codex chooses to absorb the Waxing Moon Vessel, by doing this he would absorb the Waxing Moon's magical energy but would die. He accepts this fate, telling Iori and Saber that he lived long enough and had various owners, he is only choosing his own time to die. While he is willing to do this in all three routes, he only goes through with it in "Entreat the Darkness" as the Waxing Moon is destroyed through other methods in the other two routes.
Keian Command Championship
Crimson Codex joins Aria and supports Iori and Saber during their matches.
Fate/Grand Order
When Iori is summoned as a Servant, the Crimson Codex is one of his Skills.
