Waxing Moon

The Waxing Moon^WP (盈月, Mitsuru Tsuki^?) is the Subcategory Holy Grail of the Waxing Moon Ritual of Edo. Designed as a replica using the records of the future Holy Grail Wars archived by Abe-no-Seimei as a basis, It is capable of functioning in the capacity of granting wishes but possesses no known aptitude for replicating the Third Magic.^[1]

History

With his Clairvoyance, Abe-no-Seimei learned of the Holy Grail War and proceeded to write down pieces of the information he had gleamed for his future descendants to discern and use. One such descendant, Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro, worked himself to exhaustion in his efforts to do so and through a fair number of miracles and coincidences, Tsuchimikado would succeed in creating the Waxing Moon.

However in it's incomplete state, the Waxing Moon was only capable of summoning one Servant and thus he used it to summon forth Caster, who would proceed to assist him in modifying the Waxing Moon to a level capable of summoning multiple Heroic Spirits.^[1]

In the Edo Singularity, Count Cagliostro would later appropriate the Waxing Moon to manufacture an artificial Fantasy Tree utilizing both it and Yui Shousetsu's Noble Phantasm to do so.

Characteristics

Rather than being designed in the image of a chalice, the Waxing Moon instead resembles a pair of clasped hands with talismans attached. As a byproduct of its incomplete nature, it was unable to properly absorb Servants as pure Magical Energy which resulted in their souls corrupting the vessel and "mud" to begin secreting from it as the Ritual continued.^[2]

It's incomplete state would also result Phantasmal Species of varying rank to begin spawning within Edo in conjunction with ten Stray Servants, the Divine Spirit Kishimojin, and an additional two Ruler-class Servants. As a result, it lacked the ability to grant wishes until the final Heroic Spirit, Ototachibana-hime, was offered to it by Chiemon.^[3]
