William TellWP (ウィリアム・テル, Wiriamu Teru?), Class Name Archer (アーチャー, Āchā?), is an Archer-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Identity
William Tell (Wilhelm Tell) is a legendary character that is said to have lived in Uri, in central Switzerland, during the late 13th century ~ early 14th century. The anecdotes of him rousing the governor’s anger for not showing respect to his hat that was hung on a square, and shooting at an apple placed on his son’s head are quite famous.
He’s a being whose name has been popularized as a character in dramas, but for the people of Switzerland, he’s recognized as a hero that symbolizes the movement of founding the country.
As depicted in the play, he’s a man with the courage to face the oppressors that make the people suffer.
Nevertheless, he wasn’t moved by the political/national sense of crisis, but for personal reasons if anything. As a result of doing what he should do as a huntsman, as a father, as one man, he became a warrior of justice. In other words, a realistic hero. As if he embodied the concept of “a father is a hero”, he has the boldness and composure to protect his family, sometimes frivolous, sometimes warm, and a man that’s scary when angered.
William Tell’s story is popular, but not much is known after the episode in which he saved his son. While shooting the arrow at the apple, the evil governor Geßler noticed that Tell had hidden another arrow in his body apart from the one he fixed to his crossbow. To the Tell that had pierced the arrow with magnificent skill and ran to embrace his saved son, Geßler asked the meaning of that arrow. To what he answered “If the arrow from the beginning pierced something that wasn’t the apple, I intended to kill you with this arrow”. The enraged Geßler arrested Tell, but Tell managed to escape midway.
And ——— in order to escape from the governor’s revenge, in order to protect his sons from the governor’s rage, Tell did what he needed to do. He sniped Geßler on horse at a narrow valley’s road, piercing his heart.
Peace returned to the city that lost its tyrant, Tell was honored as a hero, and beginning from here, the momentum of the Swiss independent movement became stronger and stronger ———
Appearance
Personality
A hunter that lives together with nature. The simple and virile disposition to love his family. He doesn’t really like doing flashy or pompous things.
He doesn’t really have a wish for the Holy Grail. But if there was something he would wish for, he would seek "a world in which his family can live happily".
He treats the Master as he normally would treat a Master. But if it’s someone he has taken a liking to, he may see them as his son/daughter. In that case, he would try to guide the Master to the righteous path as much as he could, and scold them when they make a mistake.
As depicted in the play, he’s a man with the courage to face the oppressors that make the people suffer.

Role
Fate/Grand Order
Yuga Kshetra: Samsara of Genesis and Terminus
William is the last Servant to be summoned by God Arjuna to serve as one of his Lokapala.[4] He was informed of what is duty as a Lokapala, but he refused on the basis that he doesn't kill children. Considering those feelings defective, God Arjuna erases William's memories of his son.[5]
When the Kali Yuga comes, William and his fellow Lokapala accompany God Arjuna to Bichu after he became curious about Chaldea’s actions. Upon seeing them, however, he dismisses them and their allies as failures to be erased. Then after a charging period, he resets the world with Mahāpralaya.[6]
William later finishes killing the Kali in a village when Nezha comes to retrieve him as he's late for a meeting. After she brings him to the Vimana, William tells the others that there are fewer holy beasts in his territory. He and Nezha suspect Chaldea is responsible, and William deduces they have a way to survive Mahāpralaya. Nezha decides to go after Ritsuka’s party herself since she allowed them to escape before. William offers to help, but Nezha rejects the offer. Nezha leaves after telling Asclepius she never expected him to help when he refuses to.
A couple days later, William camps himself far from Bichu and snipes the Kali attacking the town using Vayu's power. Once they're all dead, he changes his target to Ritsuka's party. When the group start coming for him with a horse carriage, he fires at the horse, but his arrows only hit the driver, Lakshmibai. He then tries to hit Ritsuka, only for Lakshmibai to get hit again. Then, realizing something, he starts firing at Lakshmibai. But eventually Ritsuka's party comes to his location and force him to retreat.[7]
Willaim returns to Bichu when the Kali Yuga comes again. He kills the Kali in town while Asclepius deals with Ritsuka's party. He soon finishes with the Kali and confront the group after they killed Asclepius. They struggle against him thanks to him using Vayu's power to constantly change his arrows' trajectory. As the fight continues, Asha picks up a crossbow and aims it toward William. William aims his crossbow at her but notices himself unable to fire. Ganesha tries to get him to remember his son, but God Arjuna erased those memories.[4]
As William struggles mentally, Rama deals a fatal blow. He tries to finish him off when Ashwatthama arrives.[4] William gets up and shoots Ashwatthama as he remembers he was made to forget something. He uses Vayu’s power to sneak away from Ashwatthama while Ritsuka’s party makes a run for it. Then, as God Arjuna nearly finishes charging Mahāpralaya, William fires Apfel Schiessen at him. The arrow misses, only for it to twist back and hit God Arjuna through the activation of Zweite Schiessen. Though it does nothing to harm God Arjuna, William finds the fact he got God Arjuna’s attention for a few seconds meaningful. William suspects God Arjuna summoned him last because he felt a regular human would be a good match for a god, even if it was subconsciously. God Arjuna deems William unnecessary and unleashes Mahāpralaya. Before he is erased, William remarks how he truly cannot tell who he is if he can’t remember his son.[8]
Abilities
William's armament is a crossbow that resembles a machine gun, and it essentially functions as such.
Class Skills
- Magic Resistance (D Rank): Invalidates spells of one stage (Single Action). The level of Magic Resistance of an amulet that repels magecraft.
- Independent Action (A Rank): A Skill that represents how he can manifest for a long time even in absence of a Master or without mana supply. If it’s in a situation inside the mountains, and waiting motionlessly for his prey without moving, the effect rises more.
Personal Skills
- Hunter of Uri (B Rank): The techniques of hunting he learned while living with the nature in the province of Uri, currently in central Switzerland. What lies at the basis of the widely known famous hunter. Compositely includes several skills and techniques related to hunting such as obviously treatment of the crossbow, good visual acuity, the ability to grasp the target with the eyesight, creation of traps, their adequate installation… and so forth. In the mountains of Uri, it’s equivalent to EX. If he takes time to get used to mountains he doesn’t know, the skill rank rises substantially.
- Unwavering Patience (C Rank): Waiting for the prey still and without moving when it’s cold or when it’s hot, with a patience like a huge rock. The reason why this skill is separated while parts of it are contained within the 1st skill is because this patience is the basis of a lifestyle of him providing for his family in a rustic way that goes along with nature and not having a gaudy life, and because according to legend he used this for other things besides hunting. After the incident of the apple on his son’s head, he lurked patiently in the mountains, and waited for the evil governor to cross a defile. Everything until now, and everything from now on. What should be done, and what must be done. While thinking about that, he kept waiting, still, still ———.
- Patience Leading to Opportunity (B Rank): Upgrade from Unwavering Patience in Fate/Grand Order.
- Aiming (EX Rank): A Skill that shows the ability to take aim with firearms. He’s able to shoot even at an apple put above his son’s head. In addition to the high level of concentration to even put the breathing and heartbeat under perfect control, by perfectly adapting them to the external world without making them noticeable, he doesn’t “hit”, but gets the result of “naturally hitting”. This is said to be related to the spirituality of archery that appears in Orient.
Noble Phantasms
William's main Noble Phantasm is Apfel Schiessen. Noble Phantasm has the property of interfering with the law of cause and effect, and evasion is fundamentally impossible.
William's second Noble Phantasm is Zweite Schiessen. This arrow is released in the case of the first arrow missing. That means this arrow is a Noble Phantasm that is conceptually overlapped and exists multiple times. However it’s hard to fire randomly since the mana consumption becomes intenser.
Indian Lostbelt
When he was summoned to the Indian Lostbelt under God Arjuna as one of his Lokapala, William was granted the divinity of Vayu the Indian God of Wind, greatly increasing his shooting range and the destructive power of his arrows. He was also able to use Vayu's power to change the trajectory of his arrows,[7] increase his own stealth capabilities, and augment the power and effects of his Noble Phantasms.[8] William also gained the Divine trait from being imbued with Vayu's divinity.
Development
Creation and Conception

Comment from Illustrator
"William Tell-san’s image was 「Morizō」. But, searching again Morizō is a quite monochrome green, it didn’t have multi-cam camouflage. William Tell-san couldn’t be that green…! He had the image of an austere father from the beginning, but I thought 「Is it too funky?」 when I painted his hair pink in a rush so I dropped the colorfulness." (Keitarou Takahashi)[3]
