The unnamed Gatekeeper (門番?) is a resident of Uruk appearing in Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Background
The gatekeeper was alive during 2600 BC.
Appearance
Personality
The gatekeeper claims the reason for his post is his good memory, allowing him to easily recognize the faces of travelers. He comments that seeing people return alive brings him joy.[1] Despite the south gate being a point of fear among other soldiers, he was stationed there because he doesn't hold feelings of animosity towards Quetzalcoatl.[2]
Role
Seventh Singularity: Babylonia
Within the altered history of the Seventh Singularity in 2655 BC, the gatekeeper is a soldier watching over the entrance to Uruk. Ritsuka Fujimaru, Mash Kyrielight, Medusa, and Merlin encounter him upon arriving to Uruk, the gatekeeper taking special notice of Medusa, believing her to be an ordinary child. Offering her candy given to him by his daughter, Medusa reluctantly accepts it.[1]
After Ereshkigal's curse started to affect the citizens of Uruk and drag their souls down to the underworld, the gatekeeper was afflicted by it, developing symptoms and rendered unable to eat for three days. During Quetzalcoatl's attack on Uruk, Quetzalcoatl didn't even attempt to fight him as she entered the city. She instead noticed his affliction from the curse, offering him a mango that was able to instantly restore him to health and allowed him to resume his duty. As Ritsuka and their group departs the city to subdue Quetzalcoatl, they encounter the gatekeeper who embarrassedly admits he wasn't even seen as an opponent by her and tells of his encounter. He mentions that he hopes the incident with Quetzalcoatl can be solved without conflict.[2] The gatekeeper is absent upon the group's return to Uruk due to the Gilgamesh being declared deceased.[3]
Upon Ritsuka's group later leaving on the mission to defeat Gorgon, the gatekeeper greets them as they depart, surprised they mean to make it to the Northern Wall by nightfall. Addressing Medusa, he mentions finally being able to see her face after she had previously kept herself hooded.[4] The gatekeeper is not mentioned again after the Laḫmu begin their attack on Uruk.
