Keziah MasonWP (キザイア・メイスンWP, Kizaia Meisun?) is a figure appearing in Salem in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Background
The "historical" Keziah Mason.
An accursed Witch that is said to have survived the "Salem Witch TrialsWP" after vanishing mysteriously from her cell in 1692 and lived on for over two thousand years.
In reality, she is a fictional character created by Raum in the Salem Singularity for the purpose of monitoring and obstructing anyone who would attempt to escape or interfere with the Singularity. When she was initially created, she mistook Raum for "him" using a 'different mask' but later learned of Raum's true identity as a Demon God Pillar.[1]
Keziah appears to have some history with the Whateley family, having been affiliated with Absalom Whateley in the past.[2][3]
Appearance
Keziah is a woman of average build who wears a black dress, light colored coat and long scarf with long black hair that covers the right side of her face. She wears a necklace with multiple trinkets on it.
Her second form has two sets of three smaller eyes on both sides of her face and is wearing a black bodysuit with long sleeves and exposed middle. She has a pair of black wings as well as more eye symbols across her outfit.
Personality
Keziah comes across as laid back, if unreserved, avoiding the more puritanical people of Salem in favour of being able to do things as she pleases. Rumors of her being a witch have quickly circulated due to her disposition, a fact she leans into in order to keep control of her patrons.[4]
Role
Fate/Grand Order: Epic of Remnant - Salem
Keziah first appears as the proprietor of a bar in the wharf area of Salem, calming a conflict between her sailor patrons and Nezha.[5][4] She warns Ritsuka and Mash about coming by her place as it will bias the people of Salem against her and her allies.[4]
She later kidnaps Abigail Williams for her own purposes but is found out for by Robin Hood in a bluff related to a trap he set up. Angered and seeking revenge for injuries, she transforms into Ritsuka and flees after attacking with some of her familiar parts in order to frame her as a witch.[6] Ritsuka, Circe and Robin Hood manage to ambush her after she teleported in their own Keziah disguises, but the witch summons her familiar in its full form which proves too much for the party with its Mental Pollution attack and durability as she teleports again into town and starts wrecking havoc.[7] Ritsuka however manages to distract her long enough for the Master to call upon Mata Hari to use her Noble Phantasm to seal away the familiar and reveal her true form to the guards who restrain and imprison her.[8][9] While imprisoned, she dreams of her past and is informed after waking up by one of Raum's birds that he is discarding her. Ritsuka, Mata Hari and Robin Hood meet with her at night where the Master offers to undo the sealing and help her escape Salem but the witch refuses.[1] The next day she is taken to the gallows and hung, whereupon her corpse reanimated surrounded by the familiar which is destroyed by Nezha's Noble Phantasm before the ghoul is shot down by silver bullets.[10]
Smaller Keziah riding atop Brown Jenkin's head.
One of her eyes is retrieved by a disguised Brown Jenkin for an unknown purpose and when the Demon Pillar's plan is revealed in full much later, she reappears along with Brown Jenkin in their second forms as she teleports from a magic circle in the sky.[11][12] It is revealed that she had given her eye to Brown before he first met Chaldea so she could reform from it with the familiar swarm after being hanged so she could be free from and surprise Raum. She destroys some Demon Pillar statues while flying alongside Ritsuka, Robin Hood and Brown Jenkin before being surprised by a shadowy Abigail Williams.[13] The two have a brief tentacle clash before she recreates her pick to destroy another Demon Pillar statue after which she gets jumped by an eldritch creature. While she manages to destroy it, her left half is missing and more of those eldritch creatures appear through Shadow Abigail's portals. In the end, she sacrifices herself by using numerous portals in succession to destroy the eldritch creatures and more of the statues before breaking apart, leaving one last portal for Ritsuka, Brown and Robin to go through.[14] As the Singularity collapses, it is revealed Keziah managed to reform herself again, albeit much smaller and was hiding on Brown. After she refuses his offer to use his body as material to regain her full size, the two fly through a portal to an unknown location. [15]
Abilities
Keziah seems to have a keen understanding for people, using rumor and insight to get her way. While she hasn't shown any outward magical ability, Robin Hood suspects there is more than baseless rumour to her and her past association with Absalom Whateley may point towards this.[4][2] Keziah is able to disguise her form, hiding away her arm injury as well as erasing any trace that could expose it. She can also transform her appearance to imitate other people such as Ritsuka.[6] She also has access to a familiar given to her by Raum, a large shapeless swarm of creatures that she can use small parts of as weapons or make a summoning circle to summon its full power. These creatures primarily communicate by chanting "tekeli-li" implying they are ShoggothsWP (ショゴスWP, Shogosu?).[16][1] Keziah can use those magic circles to also teleport to other locations, either on the ground or in the air.[16][12] In her second form, Keziah is able to fly and use her portals to enlarge weapons made from the familiar swarm to deal more damage.[13]
Lastly, Keziah can use numerous portals in succession to rapidly build up momentum to pierce through targets with her entire body.[14]
Development
Keziah was first mentioned in the game version of the Salem Singularity, though only by her surname, briefly referenced as a helper of Absalom Whateley who had left Salem since.[3] She was added to the manga adaptation and got an expanded role and much more details added.
