Kama/Mara (カーマ/マーラ, Kāma/Māra?), Class Name Beast III/L (ビーストⅢ/L, Bīsuto Surī/Eru?), full name Beast III/Lapse (ビーストⅢ/ラプス, Bīsuto Surī/Rapusu?), is a Beast-class Servant appearing in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order. She is the counterpart to Beast III/R.

Profile

Identity

Beast III/L. The L stands for Lapse (corruption). While Beast III/R was an embodiment of narcissism that "filled the universe with her own love", this one is an incarnation of love towards others that "exhausts the universe by aiming love towards all mankind". This is the oppressive and sadistic Kama/Mara, whose speech and actions look down on humanity, but she can "love" anything, and therefore is able to "degenerate into lust". That said, that love isn't love by thinking of others. The bestial nature of Kama/Mara is not drowning in love and being corrupted, but using love for corrupting.[1]

Originally, only one part of the Divine Spirit Kama/Mara that was a Divided Spirit borrowed the form of a human and manifested as a Pseudo-Servant. (Leave it as if it wasn’t a conscious action, but) according to Parvati, the body of "the girl acting as the yorishiro" is separated into good and evil. "The Kama of this world" possessed/was reincarnated into that body of "evil" as if he was attracted to it. The reason why he became a female deity instead of a male deity is because of this.[1]

Kama/Mara possesses the opposite of affinity towards the emotion of love, variety as a being, and many aspects. Kama/Mara has been an unstable existence from the beginning, but her "divine core mixed with love and suffering" matches the "yorishiro’s" destiny, and she has acquired a more stable Saint Graph.[1]

Normally there’s a ratio of about Kama: Mara = 6: 4. Same as other Divine Spirit Servants like Ishtar, she has the character (personality/nature) of the girl acting as the yorishiro, but not the personality (personal history). The usual Kama has a Kama/Mara proportion of 6:4. But when that ratio gets closer to Mara, this Saint Graph is awakened as a Beast. Kama got the body of the Universe, but that's similar to how the identical being, the Demon Lord Mara had the power of a boundless territory (Universe) in his hand. The greatest evil/disaster of "The Demon Lord of Lust connected to the Universe" being similar to "the god of love connected to the Universe". That is enough qualification to become the immature form of a beast that destroys people.[1]

One of the Seven Evils of Mankind, the Beast of "Lust", Beast III/R had already manifested. As if that was a chain. "Making all the love be directed to oneself", that beast’s course of action was reversed, however she has manifested here as the immature form of a Beast that "gives love to others ── in other words, steals all the love (basically, the one directed to lovely people)".[1]

Personality

Basically, she's no different from Kama. She hates, looks down on and mocks everyone (humans), but at the same time this also means that "she pays mind to everyone". As a god of love, Beast III/L's forte is "being able to love anyone no matter what they are like". She has a truly annoying personality of "hating everyone other than herself" despite "loving everyone but herself". The only point in which she differs from Beast III/R is "whether she loves herself". Kiara only loves herself, while Kama loves everyone but herself.[1]

Beast of Pleasure

Beast III/L is described as giving love to all, differing from Beast III/R taking love from all. Beast III/R declares that difference means they cannot associate as friends.[2]

The god of love that was fated to snuggle up to the love of others, annihilated by getting embroiled in the love of others, and as a result had infinite on his hands, naturally lost interest in love. Therefore, she tries to fill everything with her endless love. Because if the Universe (humanity) is filled with her love, the unpleasant and troublesome love of others wouldn’t exist.[1]

What is here is a Beast that stews mankind with her (arrow of) love that could burn the Universe. Do whatever you want. Become as helpless as you want. I’ll love you all the way until you degenerate into livestock, she affirms. To all mankind of the Universe, each one of them, she’ll give more love (temptation) that the one she gave to Buddha in the past.[1]

“Carnal desires innumerable, I vow to overcome them all ──── Isn’t that painful? I’ll burn all your worries”.[1]

A form that smiles while ridiculing and toying with the oath of a Bodhisattva. Truly the great enemy of Buddhism, one suitable to be called Demon Lord. Her class was determined by more than her true nature. A fake name like that of a god of love. That’s the great disaster that became a God Demon and will save humanity mostly late. Its name is Beast III/L. One aspect of the Seven Evils of Mankind, the Beast that has the Logos of “Lust” (『愛欲』の理, “Aiyoku” no Kotowari?, localized as "aspect of lust").[1]

Fate/Grand Order

Event: Tokugawa's World-Changing Labyrinth

As a result of what happened to the gods in the Indian Lostbelt, the normally suppressed presence of Mara inside Kama become stronger, and she began to turn into a Beast thanks to Beast III/R's demise.[3][4] In order to avoid the Counter Force from detecting the presence of a Beast, she sought a place to hide while her transformation completes.[5] She eventually found the Ooku in Edo Castle upon sensing the dying regrets of Lady Kasuga of wanting to continue nurturing the Tokugawa. Establishing a personal chamber inside the Ooku, Kama invited Iemitsu Tokugawa to indulge in her flesh until he forgot everything. After obtaining his soul, she followed the karmic bonds to everyone in the Ooku, and took their souls. Following that, she took all the souls from the rest of Edo Castle, then everyone’s souls from the surrounding area. She then used Kasuga’s karmic bonds to the Tokugawa to steal the souls of the shoguns across. Afterwards, she used her karmic bonds with Ritsuka to reach into Chaldea and tried to bring them to the Ooku, but Sion Eltnam Sokaris protected them.[6] So she brainwashed Goredolf Musik into disabling Chaldea’s protection and rayshift himself to the Singularity. From there, she used his connections to reverse summon nearly everyone in Chaldea into the Ooku.[6][7] Once they rayshifted to the Ooku, Kama froze them while their spiritron avatars were still being established.[8][9][10]

Using the souls of everyone from Edo Castle and Chaldea, Kama reconstructed the Ooku into a labyrinth that is six floors deep, with the souls of the shogun serving as its lynchpins.[11][5] Each floor of her Ooku was designed to be impossible for any human to pass unless they break one of the Five Precepts each floor represents.[12][13][14][15][16] However doing so activates a curse that turns them into a Tokugawa because the Ooku is a place for the shogun to indulge in pleasure, so conceptually, any human who indulges in its pleasures is the shogun. Before the arrival of Chaldea, Goredolf became the first victim of the curse. Kama also connected the Ooku to her, and since her existence is conceptually linked to the universe, it is a recreation of the universe and her body.[6] She also allows Matsudaira Nobutsuna to serve her, knowing he's a double agent for the Tokugawa.[4]

Kama reaches the first stage of her growth as a Beast shortly after Ritsuka’s party arrives in the Ooku’s innermost chamber. She calls Beast III/R the embodiment of self-love and cites her selfish desires and size as the primary causes for her defeat. But Kama declares she is the polar opposite, and her goal is to give everyone in the universe her infinite love. Kiara Sessyoin says, though, that would destroy the concept of love. Kama calls her satisfying all of mankind's desires as a form of salvation, not caring if others consider it to be depravity. She then calls Ritsuka to her and tells them to stop resisting and accept the Tokugawafication. Ritsuka's party attacks Kama, but she easily repels and orders Nobutsuna to have Ritsuka drink with Goredolf. The shogun’s conceptual authority is strengthened inside the Ooku’s innermost chamber, a concept Kama's body also shares. Suddenly, though, Kasuga slaps Goredolf and reprimands him for behaving like a true shogun shouldn’t. Kama is baffled that broke Goredolf’s mental conditioning and Scheherazade asks Kasuga if she isn’t afraid to die for her actions against the shogun. Kasuga answers she will go to her death proudly if it meant guiding the shogun down the right path. Kasuga’s words infuriate Kama, who asserts humans only need to accept her love. Goredolf then attacks her, which she easily dodges, and he returns to being a Tokugawa since his reversion to his old self was only temporary. Kama then gets furious at Kiara for speaking and attacks her with her flames. Unfazed, Kiara calls Kama's love cold and lacking of passion, something she cannot abide by, so as a Beast herself, she cannot permit Kama to fill the universe with such love. Kama angrily reminds Kiara she failed and declares the universe only needs her love. Kiara then expels the others from the chamber and tells them to gather the hanafuda cards while she holds Kama back with her power as a fragment of Beast III/R.[6]

Ultimately, though, Kama kills Kiara, leaving her disgusted she had to give her polar opposite her love, even if for a moment. But having erased Kiara, Kama believes she will not be a bother anymore and declares she will succeed where Kiara failed. She then tells Nobutsuna that Ritsuka has no choice but to return, given she is still holding Goredolf and everyone else from Chaldea hostage, so they’ll only need to wait.[6][5][17]

Upon returning, Ritsuka activates their Anti-Tokugawa shield to counteract the Tokugawafication and diminish the constraints on Yagyuu Munenori. Kama realizes they found Yoshinobu’s pillbox and laughs. She tells Ritsuka’s party that their animosity toward her doesn’t matter because, as the Beast of Pleasure, she consumes everything with her love. She then attacks and the group seems to have the advantage. Kama, however, mocks them for thinking that they can beat her and reveals she wanted them to find Yoshinobu’s pillbox so they may despair when they lost with their only hope. Then, to make it even harder for Parvati to use her Saint Graph, she reveals it was the dying Kasuga’s desire that served as the catalyst for the current crisis. As Kasuga panics about what she has wrought, Kama tells her she can never redeem herself for what she has done. She will still love her, though, along with everyone else. Ritsuka’s Tokugawafication then starts again, with Kama revealing the Anti-Tokugawa shield can only halt the corruption. Ritsuka’s Tokugawafication then starts again, with Kama revealing the Anti-Tokugawa shield can only halt the corruption. She wanted Ritsuka to find and use the pillboxes to further their Tokugawafication in order to facilitate her maturation. Then, changing into the next stage of her growth, Kama removes the gravity, leaving everyone adrift in space. She then reveals every star is her and envelops the group in darkness with the barest minimum of oxygen.[18]

Kama tries to wait patiently for Ritsuka to have a mental breakdown but loses her patience. She tells Nobutsuna to stop staring at her and orders him to keep Goredolf company so he doesn’t throw her off her game with a stupid remark. Appreciating his following her orders without question, she also promises to reward Nobutsuna with lots of extra love once she achieves her goal. Suddenly, she notices a light coming from where Ritsuka’s party is. Kasuga’s voice then declares that if she is here, then this place must be the Ooku, manifesting a floor.[18]

Kasuga then rewrites the definition of Kama’s universe to reestablish gravity, while Ritsuka’s Mystic Code is used to reestablish oxygen. Nobutsuna reveals himself to be a double agent for Tenkai to protect the Tokugawa and they ensured Kasuga’s soul was protected. The cards are also actually his organs transformed by Tenkai. Sion realizes the cards can purge Ritsuka of Kama’s corruption. After Ritsuka is cleansed, Munenori kills Nobutsuna to release his soul, which holds the concept of “one whose actions oppose the Tokugawa” thanks to Tenkai’s spell. The false Muramasa blade, an Anti-Tokugawa weapon, emerges from Nobutsuna’s body for Munenori to wield against the false Tokugawa. Baffled by the situation, Kama admits she knew Nobutsuna was betraying her, though she was surprised to hear he helped Kasuga escape. She also knew Nobutsuna was creating and leaving the cards behind for Ritsuka’s party while he thought she was busy reading. She only kept him around because she wanted to see his face when he learned all his work for naught. But to her frustration, he succeeded instead. It disgusts her he would betray the Tokugawa to imbue himself with Anti-Tokugawa properties and let himself be killed so he could turn himself into a Tokugawa Slayer and help defeat her. But Kasuga understands Nobutsuna’s thinking, calling his actions to protect the Tokugawa a pure expression of love. Kama tells the group they don't need any love of their own, especially love she doesn't know. She declares her love will satisfy all earthly desires. When all desires are satisfied, they will cease to exist. Kama considers this salvation, not caring that it will ultimately lead to stagnation. She and her duplicates then attack RItsuka’s party.[4]

Kama eventually understands Munenori will only kill her if she continues to hold the property of Tokugawa and the Ooku. She thus removes said properties from herself, but that allows Kasuga full control of the Ooku and returns it to its original form. Then, after the others attack Kama, Kasuga uses her authority over the Ooku to expel Kama from it. As Kama continues to be expelled into the air, Parvati strikes her with Trishula Shakti. In agony, Kama complains people always blame her for why there isn’t enough love to go around, so she tried to get revenge by giving them her infinite love. As a god of love meant to love others, Kama knew she wouldn’t never be loved herself. She, therefore, had no choice to dominate everyone with her love if she didn’t want to feel like a victim anymore. She is then destroyed, lamenting she couldn’t give the humans that she despises her infinite love.[4]

Kama later finds herself in her inner universe in the giant hands of Kiara. She questions how Kiara could be here, since no one should exist here unless she invites. But then she recalls she incinerated Kiara with her fire and realizes that is why she is in her inner universe. Kiara denies Kama’s suspicions that she wants to consume her to gain a perfect form, saying they repel each other despite both being Beast III, since their sins are polar opposites. She then grants Kama the ability to be summoned as a Servant, calling it her punishment and a chance to redeem herself and learn about mutual love. She expects Kama won’t remember this conversation, or that she is a Beast herself or anything about Beasts. Kama accepts being a Servant as a chance to learn about the love Kasuga spoke of, the love that comes from watching someone grow and improve. She expects it will be easy to wait for RItsuka to grow and improve, confident in patience. She also can’t wait to irritate Parvati with her seductions. Kiara and Kama then bid farewell to each other.[3]

Other appearances

In Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, the third-ranked member of the Burial Agency, Kiara Kisshouin, used the SabbathWP (サバト?) to turn into a demon, managing to climb to the rank of Maradeva, and became omnipotent in this dimension because of her higher dimensional senses.[19]

Abilities

The God of Love Kama and the Demon King Mara are said to be the same entity.[1][6] Under normal circumstances, they coexist in a 6:4 ratio respectively,[1] with the latter being unable to operate freely due to Shiva and the other hindu gods keeping him under constant supervision.[3] However, in the events of the Indian Lostbelt, Arjuna Alter incapacitated and absorbed the gods,[20] allowing Kama/Mara to flee India and the Mara side to grow stronger.[3] Furthermore, as the Demon God of Depravity, Mara's existence resonates with Beast III's left side: Lapse.[1][6][5] Whereas Beast III/R represents the YinWP side of the Sin of Lust—a hole that takes love into itself—Kama/Mara represents its YangWP aspect, an existence that gives love to everyone in the universe.[6][3] For this reason, when Kiara Sessyoin was defeated by Chaldea, the scales tipped to the left, causing Kama/Mara to manifest as an immature Beast.[6]

Axiomatic Embodiment

Kama's signature ability is her power to turn theoretical axioms into real conceptual connections between two entities. While it has never received an official name, it has been used several times:

  • Beast Maturing Process: Ritsuka Fujimaru was the one who stopped Beast III/R from maturing during the SE.RA.PH Subcategory Singularity. Due to this, it stands to reason that if an immature Beast III/L defeated him, they would have evolved further than Kiara ever could. Following this reasoning, Kama's plan during the Edo Singularity became to lure Fujimaru into depravity as a means of transforming into a mature Beast herself.[6]
  • Ananga: Centuries ago, Kama was tasked by Indra to charm Shiva into having a child with Parvati. However, Kama's attempt to stop his meditation greatly angered him, prompting him to burn Kama to ashes with his third eye.[21][6] It is said that the more powerful a Divinity, the greater the ramifications of their actions will be.[6] In this case, Shiva is the god who administers the "destruction of the universe" through the unfathomable power of his third eye, so when Kama was incinerated by it, the universe and her became linked on a conceptual level. Due to this, Kama is known as Ananga, The Incorporeal One. Under normal circumstances, it would be impossible for an ordinary God of Love or the Demon King Mara to exploit this connection and manifest a Conceptual Universe. However, when Kama/Mara awakened their new powers as a Beast, which transcend the limits of a Divine Spirit, it became possible.[21][6]
  • Tokugawafication: The Ooku is the place inside Edo Castle where the Shogun's wife and concubines reside.[8] As such, it can be defined as a place devoted to the shogun's pleasure. Following this logic, Kama was able to establish a rule so that anyone who experiences pleasure inside her Ooku Labyrinth would be considered a Tokugawa shogun as well.[6] Similarly, the Tokugawa Pillboxes can also trigger Tokugawafication on whoever uses them. Only a fellow Tokugawa can toy with the supreme Authority of other Tokugawa family members. As such, whoever uses the pillboxes, which contain the transformed Souls of other Tokugawa shoguns, for their own gain, would also be considered a Tokugawa.[18]

Ooku Labyrinth

Eclosion: Kama transforms from the into the Crown of Light.

Eclosion: Kama transforms from the Crown of Stone into the Crown of Light.

Every Beast has a different crown known as the Horns of the Beast. However, in Beast III/L's case, her horns come in two forms.[1] Her true form, the Crown of Light, can only be revealed once her previous form, the Crown of Stone is cracked open and destroyed by Humans. Furthermore, the Crown of Light is regarded as her next stage of growth, one which has gone through eclosion.[1][18] However, despite its Magical Energy Output being greater than in its previous variant,[18] she can't be said to have reached full maturity yet.[1][18] To reach her "adult" state, she would need to fill up the universe first, a process that would normally take her NayutaWP (a hundred million) hours. While requiring a long time to reach her normal state after "eclosion" compared to other Beasts is a weak point of hers, Beast III/L came up with the amazing plan of shortening that period of time to just a couple hours by likening the universe to the restricted space inside the "Ooku".[1]

Beasts of Disaster usually need to be fought with the power of the seven Grand Servants. However, since Kama was still immature and recluded inside the Ooku, the Counter Force didn't recognize her as one. This is the reason why not a single Grand Servant was summoned during the Edo Singularity.[5] Furthermore, Kama's Ooku is protected by Anti-Counter Force barriers that prevent normal Servants from being summoned inside it.[15] Kiara Sessyoin was an exception thanks to her particular ability and ties to Beast III.[8][6]

It has been speculated that killing Kama/Mara would result in the Ooku's destruction.[10]

Tokugawafication

« If we define the Ooku as a place devoted to the shogun's pleasure, then anyone who experiences pleasure there would have to be a shogun, right? »

(Kama, FGO - Ooku Event, Act Seven)

The Ooku is a Curse designed to turn anyone who makes their way to the innermost sanctum by breaking the Five Precepts into Tokugawa. Its Spell is called the Tokugawafication (徳川化?), a mental attack designed to make Ritsuka Fujimaru indulge in the pleasures of the Ooku Labyrinth and fall into depravity. In fact, Kama's false Ooku was designed specifically for that purpose.[6] Every different floor is themed after one of the five precepts, making it impossible for someone to proceed unless they break them.[13][15] Whoever traspasses into the Ooku without doing so will have their health worsen over time, eventually killing them.[13] According to Scheherazade, she has never heard of such a massive specialized spell in all the stories she has ever read. She claims that not even a Divine Spirit should be able to pull it off easily. However, Kama/Mara is able to do it through the power of her love. No matter how much someone breaks the precepts, Kama will continue to love them. Furthermore, proving her love to someone causes the concept behind the Ooku to become stronger, which grants the spell a feedback effect.[6] On the other hand, Sion Eltnam Sokaris states that she doesn't have an accurate way of measuring the Tokugawafication due to it being a new concept.[17]

The Five Precepts are:

  • Level I (Do not kill): Ritsuka Fujimaru and his Servants are forced to destroy the Ooku attendants. While they aren't technically alive, their nature as artificial Familiars means that destroying them constitutes "killing."[11][13]
  • Level II (Do not lie): On the second floor, they had to lie to themselves about wanting to move forward, then follow paths in places that falsely presented themselves as dead ends.[11][13]
  • Level III (Do not consume intoxicants): To progress, they had to drink alcohol. However, they circumvented it by having Mata Hari use her Noble Phantasm to brainwash Fujimaru. By making him feel intoxicated, they were able to convince the Ooku that he was actually drunk.[13]
  • Level IV (Do not steal): They were forced to steal a Tokugawa Pillbox from one of Kama's doubles.[14][15]
  • Level V (Do not engage in sexual relationships outside of marriage): On the fifth floor, Kama and her doubles tempted Fujimaru directly.[16]

While the Tokugawafication is a corruption that occurs as a result of making one's way through the labyrinth, that is not the only way it can happen.[17] Kama only designed it around the five precepts because they are easier to understand,[15] however, the deciding factor is whether someone falls into depravity inside the Ooku or not.[6] Due to this, none of the loopholes Ritsuka Fujimaru and his Servants exploited in the first five floors are able to prevent the Tokugawafication from taking effect on the sixth one.[6]

Lady Kasuga was able to temporarily break Goredolf Musik out of the spell by slapping him in the face.[6] On the other hand, Sion Eltnam Sokaris was able to devise Anti-Tokugawa countermeasures by using the Tokugawa Inrou.[17] These pillboxes were made out of Souls from deceased Shogun, which granted each one the same properties as the shogun's reign they represent. After becoming aware of this, Sion pointed out that the inrou associated to Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the man who abolished the Tokugawa shogunate, should contain the power to bring Kama's false Ooku to an end as well.[5] After collicting every single pillbox, Sion added them to Ritsuka Fujimaru's Mystic Code, granting its wavelength an opposite Magecraft phase to the Tokugawafication. She also condensed it into a projectile attack, like Gandr. While Sion's barrier didn't get rid of Fujimaru's Tokugawafication, it was able to temporarily stop Kama's influence on him from getting stronger.[17] However, using the Inrou proved to be a double-edged sword. Following Kama's logic-based abilities, only a fellow Tokugawa can toy with the supreme Authority of other Tokugawa family members. As such, when Fujimaru combined the inrou to exploit Yoshinobu's Tokugawa-ending properties, he inadvertently transformed into a Tokugawa himself, falling deeper into depravity. Due to this, the pillboxes became nothing but blackboxes with both positives and negative forces meddling with Fujimaru's mind. Only the one with the higher output would have prevailed, and Sion's barrier wasn't up for the task. Had Matsudaira Nobutsuna not completely netutralized Fujimaru's Tokugawafication through the Hanafuda Cards backdoor program created by Nankoubou Tenkai, Kama would have become a fully-matured Beast in a matter of minutes.[18]

Inner Space

Kama's Inner

Kama's Inner Conceptual Universe

After being burned by Shiva, Kama became Ananga, the Incorporeal One. Due to this, the Universe and her are linked on a conceptual level.[6] During the Edo Singularity, she was able to transform the sixth level of the Ooku into its own self-contained Inner Space: Inner Conceptual Universe (内面概念宇宙(インナースペース), Gainen Uchū(Innā Supēsu)?).[6][3] Despite being an infinite universe without beginning or end, it is considered part of her body. Due to this, she displays an overwhelming territorial advantage inside it as well. Metaphorically speaking, Kama doesn't just have the high ground, she is the high ground itself.[6] Furthermore, since Humans can't survive in space, it stands to reason that Novum Chaldea can't defeat a Beast who has become the universe.[18]

On the other hand, Kama's advantage also lies in the universe being the Ooku's innermost chamber, the ultimate place reserved for the Tokugawa shogun. There, a Tokugawa can truly be who they are, making the significance of their title stronger than ever. Thus, anyone who knows the Authority a Tokugawa wields cannot help but obey what they say. It is nothing so overt as someone using their voice to directly control others. But rather, like an unconscious nudge that makes them feel like like everything they say is a good idea. This property works on an instinctual level, and it's applied not only to Kama, but those under the Tokugawafication like Goredolf Musik as well. Yagyuu Munenori notes that his sword feels extremely heavy while fighting them because of it. Breathing is also hard due to the weigth Goredolf's words carry.[6]

Furthermore, Kama can modify the settings of her universe at will.[6] Since it is all conceptual, she can manipulate everything that forms part of it, like the amount of gravity, light, or oxygen, with a mere thought.[18]

Ooku's Construction

When Kama/Mara first arrived to the Edo Singularity, she infiltrated the Ooku, the most guarded place in Edo Castle. There, she created a single room, a part of her in a way, that she could manipulate at will. After that, she invited the current ShogunWP, Tokugawa Iemitsu, into her chambers, tricking him into falling under her control. Once Iemitsu was fully charmed, Kama gained control of his Soul and transformed him into the first Tokugawa Pillbox. Kama would go on to use it as an Anchor for her false Ooku. She started by following his bonds across Edo, trapping everyone who resided inside Edo Castle and the surrounding buildings.[6] Then, she continued by followings his connections vertically, across time and space, to gather people who shared links to the Tokugawa Clan and the Shogunate as well.[6][18] The most significant souls, those of the the Shogun in the past and the future, were also transformed into pillboxes. However, Kama decided to only use them as guidelines to make the new floors, so she didn't really need them as anchors.[6] The remaining ones were atomized and broken down into the smallest possible components to be used as construction materials for Kama's false Ooku.[6][17]

Once her labyrinth was complete, Kama's goal became to summon Ritsuka Fujimaru to the Ooku so that she could corrupt him through the Tokugawafication. Under normal circumstances, it would be impossible for Kama to access a place so extraordary like Novum Chaldea, located at the Wandering Sea. However, thanks to Fujimaru being tied to her through fate, she was able to pull it off. Nevertheless, the alchemist cought on and got in Kama's way, forcing her to modify her plan into having Fujimaru make his way through the six floors out of his own volition.[6] To accomplish this, Kama made contact with Goredolf Musik, brainwashed him to her side, and Rayshifted him to the Ooku.[7][3] Having used his director security clearance to disable all of the Command Room's protections prior to being invited to the Ooku,[7][3] Kama was able to use Goredolf's connection to the staff and Servants to reverse-summon them to the Ooku as well.[7] Inducing this forced Spiritron summoning was only possible by using Sion Eltnam Sokaris' Coffin as a Catalyst,[8] as well as Kama's inexhaustible Magical Energy generation capabilities surpassing that of a Holy Grail.[7] Only Kiara Sessyion and Parvati were able to escape Kama's call.[8][7] The first one was through her Independent Manifestation skill,[8] whereas the latter was by absorbing Lady Kasuga's Soul into her Saint Graph, which made her definition become less clear midway through the summoning.[7] On the other hand, the members of Chaldea who were trapped by Kama were transformed into construction materials, just like the residents of Edo Castle.[10][11][15] While there are differences in their density, both humans and servants alike share similar building blocks, which allows Kama to use them indiscriminately.[10]

Kama's actions caused the Ooku to become a full blown Singularity that could lead to the collapse of Humanity. While that was Goetia's ultimate goal when he created the seven singularities, in Kama's case, creating the singularity was just a side effect of her true goal.[10][6] Furthermore, while technically a Singularity, the Ooku is closer to a Lostbelt in nature. The reason for this is that its influence stretched rather than staying confined, trying to interfere with Proper Human History in the process. Sion Eltnam Sokaris explains that whereas Human History can be understood as a long scroll, singularities are like stains that weaken the scroll by contaminating the history around them. On the other hand, lostbelts are like independent scrolls that were discarded once they stopped being useful. In the case of the Edo Singularity, it was a hybrid of both, a Pseudo-Singularity similar to Shinjuku or Shimosa. She categorizes it as a massive Humanity Destruction Zone that affects the axis of time itself.[8]

Combat

Kama has a Spell that messes with the memories and behavioral principles of the target, turning them into puppets she can control. Even Kiara Sessyoin's Five Approaches to Meditation program is rendered completely useless against it due to their differences at a fundamental root.[12] While Matsudaira Nobutsuna has the highest respect for Yagyuu Munenori's skill and leadership, he states that Kama could easily control him and force him to be her attendant the way she did with Mata Hari and Scheherazade.[10]

During the Edo Singularity, Kama's Authority as a living universe and the Ooku Labyrinth proved to be extremely challenging for Novum Chaldea to overcome. The only way for them to defeat her was by turning the Ooku into something that isn't the universe, and then, reinforcing that definition so that they could gain an advantage over her. Firstly, the counterattack began by using her axiomatic based powers against her. Mata Hari used her Noble Phantasm to brainwash Lady Kasuga into believing a larger than life story told by Scheherazade depicting her as the undisputed ruler of the Ooku, which granted her a form of Self-Modification. Since the Ooku had been built using other people's Souls, Kasuga's own strengthened soul gained the ability to modify it by establishing new rules the way Kama had done in the past. First, Kasuga established that since her name will always be spoken alongside the Tokugawa Ooku, wherever she manifests must be the Ooku itself. This allowed her to create a floor for the Servants to stand, contrary to Kama's wishes.[18] After that, Yagyuu Munenori, now wielding Izu-no-Kami Muramasa, the ultimate Anti-Tokugawa sword, started exploiting Kama's connection to the Ooku, cutting down her doubles faster than she could spawn them. In fear of receiving a critical hit herself, Kama was forced to abandon her connection to the Ooku and the Tokugawa. However, this sealed her fate. Kasuga took the opportunity to revert back the Ooku's structure to its original shape. Then, Mata Hari, Scherazade, and Muneori struck her with everything they had. After Kasuga sent her flying into the surface, Parvati finished her off with Trishula Shakti.[4]

  • Authority of the Beast (A Rank): A Skill that one could call Anti-Human Order. She has a strong hold over lifeforms that require the "recognition of the living". forms with differing forms of intelligence can not communicate their intentions and their meaning, Beast III's devilish wiles do not require connecting through such intelligence and can corrupt her target through emotions alone. One could even call it a special attack against growth, that makes one renounce hard work and compromise that their current situation is already "good enough".[1]
  • Independent Manifestation (C Rank): In a world overflowing with voices starving for love, she appears to satisfy them. Of course, the world will be satisfied at the Beast's discretion.[1]
  • Nega-Desire (A Rank): The absolute and ultimate Skill of adoration possessed by the Beast that is the incarnation of worldly desires. No matter what kind of existence they are, those with desires will fall into depravity due to her love. If all desires and appetites of the flesh can be fulfilled with infinite love, that is the same as erasing the concept of desire from the universe. Also, as an existence that gives love, she is completely immune to "charm".[1]
  • Accepting Body of Myriad Desires (EX Rank): Originally, Kama/Mara was endowed with a high degree of diversity when it comes to shape and ability in order to answer the (worldly) desires of the multitude of Humans inhabiting this World. This diversity has been sublimated into a more specific form by the addition of the nature of infinity known as the universe. It is an Authority that makes sure that each and every (worldly) desire inhabiting this universe is cuddled close together, pampered, and corrupted. A theorem that, innumerable like stardust, there are freely customizable "all-accepting versions of her". In other words, the Beast that is Kama/Mara is infinitely present in the universe known as her.[1]

Personal Skills

Kama's infinite clones covering her universe.

Kama's infinite clones covering her universe.

  • Embrace of Dreams (— Rank): Summons Mara's "doubles" that are unevenly distributed inside the universe by "Accepting Body of Myriad Desires".[1] According to Parvati, Kama was never known to be capable of creating body doubles. Still, considering their nature as Divine Spirits, it’s not too hard to believe that they would be able to make more avatars of themselves if they really wanted to. Even Parvati herself does something similar when she uses her Noble Phantasm. Shinobi like Fuuma Kotarou also possess cloning techniques, and Scheherazade has heard of a dollmaker ranked Grand among mages who can make puppets that look identical to real people.[15] However, Kama/Mara surpasses all of them in this regard, as her copies are not clones, nor does she divide herself. All copies are parts of her and real Beasts. The reason for this is that Kama is not a single organism, but rather, a colony with enough identical copies to fill the entire universe.[18] Furthermore, the abilities of every single duplicate are equal in rank to Kama/Mara's main body despite them not having the Beast's Crown of Light.[1]
  • Pathos Scepter (A Rank): Her special trait as the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, Hajun. The power of the Beast's Crown of Light (scepter). Depending on Beast III/L's state and mood, it emits various beams of love. "Free love", "pure love", "unjust love", "unbiased love", "inexhaustible love" and "everlasting love"; these six. Each one will restore her HP and apply numerous debuffs to the target whenever she attacks. The more Beast III/L fights, the more she will heal her wounds, weaken the opponent and multiply. When it comes to a battle of pure quantity, Beast III/L could be considered the strongest among the Beasts.[1]
  • Affection of the Heavenly Demon (A Rank): A rare Skill that activates after death. The one who defeats Beast III/L or one of her doubles will have all of the debuffs that have been applied to them up to this point cleared. A skill that embodies Beast III/L's special trait of "loving even her killer". It has a disadvantageous effect for Beast III/L, but that might also serve as a source of amusement for her.[1]

Noble Phantasm

Beast III/L's Noble Phantasm is Samsara Kama/Mara Avaruddha, a Noble Phantasm of extreme depravity that displays an evil of cataclysmic scale with the power of two gods, Kama and Mara. If one's struck by this Noble Phantasm inside Kama's universe, they might witness a hell────or perhaps heaven-like spectacle where "without distinction, Kama dispatches herself (doubles) everywhere, burning and exhausting the universe with her one-sided love". When the large-flowered lotuses bloom under Kama's feet, she and the target she chose to love fall into the darkness of the universe. Within the immeasurable darkness, Kama faces her partner and presents them her hand. The hand that seems to be inviting a lover or perhaps tempting a Saint, will turn into blue flames before lengthening and flowing through the darkness. The blue flames will eventually crash into the other party in the form of a gigantic arrow, piercing through them and imprisoning them in Kama's universe. Afterwards, the arms of flame become innumerable, filling the space vigorously and inexhaustibly as if to tear the world into pieces, and in the end, the immeasurable darkness is replaced with the blue universe of Kama────by the time one notices, everything has been captured within Kama's arm.[1]

It is a powerful Noble Phantasm, but due to Beast III/L's special characteristics, it also has its flaws where she is unable to love those in close proximity or just a single person. If her target of corruption is not "a large number of people", but a "'single person", she can not wield this Authority. Her Noble Phantasm being single target in Fate/Grand Order signifies that Beast III/L was still in an immature stage.[1]

Forms and Alternate Versions

Crown of Stone

Each Beast has a different crown, the horns of the beast. However, in Beast III/L's case, her horns come in two different forms. The first crown of the beast is made out of stone. It isn't until it's destroyed that she can manifest her true form, the crown of light hidden underneath. In other words, Kama's first form is the stage before the eclosion process.[1]

Abilities

In this form, Kama/Mara wields a Conceptual Universe as one of her abilities, something the Demon King Mara could have never done on its own.[18] The reason for this discrepancy in power is that Kama/Mara had succeeded in manifesting as a Beast,[18] albeit immature.[5][18] According to Mata Hari, Kama/Mara is not only incredibly strong, but she displays an overwhelming territorial advantage inside her universe as well.[6] In fact, Sion Eltnam Sokaris believes that Kama is an enemy Novum Chaldea can't fight by themselves.[5]

Kiara Sessyoin states that having become a fragment of her true self, she currently lacks the power to truly defeat Kama/Mara. However, if she were to break her vow to exist only as a Servant of Chaldea and fight her as Beast III/R, she should be able to win. Despite this, she isn’t sure if defeating Kama once would put an end to her permanently.[6] Nevertheless, Kama admits that Kiara was the only Servant aiding Ritsuka Fujimaru who had any chance of defeating her.[18] On the other hand, as Kama hadn't gone through her eclosion process yet, her Magical Energy Output was weaker than in her Light Form.[18]

Combat

Kama/Mara was fast enough to dodge a strike of Yagyuu Munenori without much effort.[18]

Kiara Sessyoin was able to send Ritsuka Fujimaru and his Servants outside the Ooku Labyrinth at the cost of her own life. As she teleported them away, Kama burned her to ashes with her fire.[6] However, Kiara survived, later manifesting inside Kama's universe after her defeat. According to Kama, Kiara is like a patch of mold that keeps spreading no matter how hard someone scrubs.[3]

After integrating all the Tokugawa Pillboxes into Ritsuka Fujimaru's Special Mystic Code, Novum Chaldea gained access to Anti-Tokugawa Magecraft Protection capable of slowing down Kama's influence over them. Furthermore, thanks to Sion Eltnam Sokaris' assitance, they were able to condense it into a projectile attack, like Gandr, with the same properties.[17][18] According to Mash Kyrielight, their chances of defeating Kama/Mara at this point where 50%, maybe less.[17] Parvati, Mata Hari, Scheherazade, Yagyuu Munenori, and Ritsuka Fujimaru would go on to fight and presumably overwhelm Kama. However, their decision to use the pillboxes backfired, as Kama had set them in advanced as a way to intensify Fujimaru's Tokugawafication by linking his existence to that of the Shogun. Furthermore, Fujimaru getting closer into becoming a full blown brainwashed Tokugawa allowed Kama to evolve into her next stage of growth, the Crown of Light.[18]

Doubles

Thanks to Kama's Accepting Body of Myriad Desires and Embrace of Dreams skills, she has the ability to manifest as a colony of infinite doubles that spread across her entire universe.[1] Kama's "doubles" are not clones, and she is not dividing herself, either. They are all her. They are all Beasts. Kama is not a single organism, she is a colony with enough identical copies to fill the entire universe.[18]

Appearance

During the events of the Edo Singularity, her doubles took two different forms. Initially these doubles took the same form as Kama (Assassin)'s second ascension, and later on, after Kama manifested as a Beast, they obtained their own distinct design, which closely resembles Kama (Assassin)'s third stage and Kama's evolved Beast III/R form.[18]

Abilities

Despite the clones' abilities being of the same rank as Kama/Mara's,[1] Yagyuu Munenori was able to cut them down faster than Kama could spawn them. This was possible thanks to wielding Izu-no-Kami Muramasa, the ultimate Anti-Tokugawa weapon, at the time.[4]
