Jiao (鮫, Kō?) is a spirit summoned by the Godfelling Crossbow in Fate/strange Fake.
Profile
Background
Jiao is a figured related to the legends of Qin Shi Huang (whom they call Zheng[3][4][2]) and Xu Fu. Notably, Qin Shi Huang was the one who killed him using the crossbow, after trying many other Mystic Codes to do so,[2] because they impeded Xu Fu’s voyage on the orders of Qin Shi Huang to search for immortality.[1] They were once called a deity, a sea god,[1] and once had a name long ago but have since "lost it".[4] "Jiao" is the name they give Sigma to call them by.[5]
Presumably, based on Lord El-Melloi II's recounting of the legend of the crossbow, their real identity is that of a sea god or an avatar of the ocean named Dajiaoyu (大鮫魚?). Jiao is likely a remnant of the sea god set to manifest if taken to the underworld, as what happened when taken inside Doomsday Come.[1]
Appearance
Jiao has a beautiful androgynous appearance[3] and voice,[4] making it difficult to tell if they are a man or a woman.[2] They are shrouded in an aura of opulence produced by their distinctive makeup and the glamorous red clothing they wear, making Tsubaki Kuruoka wonder if they are royalty.[2]
Personality
Role
Fate/strange Fake
Abilities
They are one of the only characters able to sense Watcher.[2][5]
Development
Creation and Conception
Originally, rather than Jiao, Qin Shi Huang was going to appear in the role of the spirit manifesting from the Godfelling Crossbow in Fate/strange Fake, planned with the series' original release five years prior. Due to the character appearing in Fate/Grand Order, Narita developed instead a new character for the role, commenting that it worked out because the new character was fun to write.[6]
