Ciel (シエル, Shieru?) is the seventh member of the Burial Agency of the Holy Church. Formerly an incarnation of Michael Roa Valdamjong, she goes undercover at Souya's high school, acting as Shiki Tohno's senior.

Ciel is one of the six heroines of the Tsukihime Remake series.

Profile

Background

Birth name: Elesia (エレイシア, Ereishia?). A girl born in the French countryside to a baker's family.[1][2][3] She lived happily, helping her father at his bakery and attending school.[2] Due to a high degree of magical potential, she was born as Michael Roa Valdamjong's fifteenth incarnation. His fourteenth was destroyed by Arcueid Brunestud before he had a chance to find a family bloodline with both wealth and power. He could only fulfill the requirement that his next incarnation would have physical potential, so he was born into a normal family without any social standing. Her body instead had extremely high magical potential, such that in Roa's estimations even magi at the top of their fields look like rusted-out clunkers when compared to her body.[2]

Everything changed around her twelfth birthday, when Roa finally began to manifest, causing her to become a vampire.[1][2] She started to experience abnormal violent urges, but always kept them in check. She wanted to snap the necks of her friends for no reason, and the sight of a beggar on the road was so funny that she wanted to stab him with a knife. She tried her best to resist the impulses by locking herself away in her room. It was not the same as possession, as she equated the feelings to those normal small destructive passions that all humans possess solidified inside her mind. She knew something terrible would happen if she were to let them take over, so she tried not to see anyone or do anything to avoid hating anyone and bring about her feelings.[2]

It became too much to bear, so she shut herself into her room. Locking herself away was a large mistake because that gave time for her mind to grind away and finally surpass its limits. She became completely replaced with Roa after that point, but still felt his actions as her own. With only the thought of her thirstiness, she left her room for the first time in months, and bringing smiles to her worried parents, as they rushed to welcome her, bit into their necks and sucked their blood.[2] Roa greatly enjoyed the amount of power the body gave him. Due to her having no social standing, it took him time to take over, and it was difficult to do so without having people notice.[2]

Roa in Ciel's body took over her village, and eventually become a center figure of what would be called the French Incident.[1][2][3] He committed various atrocities to the citizens as he enjoyed using a body with true power, but it was not as wild as previous times and without as much blood spilled. The will of the incarnation still comes from the body, so she still had some power over his actions. She took the townspeople she loved one by one, and she humiliated and mutilated their souls. She figured that she would go insane, but also figured that insanity would cause her to commit even more sins than before. She tried to minimize the damage in order to persevere and keep her sanity. It only took a month before she was in full control of them and playing with their lives however she wished.[2][3] Her only solace was that it ended quickly. After the town was completely under Roa's control, he was inevitably hunted down by Arcueid. She found him on a night with a crimson moon, and he was killed after their fight.[2][3] But after being defeated by Arcueid, Roa transferred to the next incarnation and the corpse taken by the Holy Church to CuriaWP where, after seven years, she revived as Elesia, with her original personality without any of Roa's influence, while Roa moved on to his next incarnation, SHIKI Tohno.[1][2][3]

The girl, now immortal for as long as Roa is alive, discarded her name, was baptized as Ciel, and joined the Church as a vampire Hunter in order to one day die as a human.[2][3] She was personally recruited into the Burial Agency by the Director of it, Narbareck.[3] She became an Executor at the age of only 13 due to her unique form of immortality and knowledge obtained from Roa, and spent the next six years working as one. Owing to her immortality, she has a 100% success rate, and has killed countless vampires despite impossible odds. According to Noel, she once spent an entire year lurking in the sewer of a European city just to kill a single vampire. The vampire had the ability to monitor the entire city as if it was its own body, allowing it to monitor for any intruders, but had trouble locating people in the sewers due to how filthy they were. As the vampire would have been able to detect her presence if she made use of any Sacraments, she swallowed the handle of a Black Key which she kept inside her body for the entire year she spent in the sewer. Ciel waited until she had an opportunity to attack it, managing to make the kill after the vampire had eliminated a group of other Executors who were sent to kill it, then attacking it from below when it wasn't expecting it. Killing vampires is all she is good at, and all she has done for every single day since she joined the Church. Had her vampire-like nature and inhuman mentality not made her taboo within the Church, she would have been canonized as a saint.[4]

Ciel holds the seventh seat in the Burial Agency, along with the codename "Bow" (弓, Yumi?).[5] Before the events of Tsukihime, Ciel defeated and killed three of the Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors; the 7th Einnashe, the 22nd Chromclay Petastructure and the 25th Be'ze.[6][7][8][9][10] She currently possesses Einnashe, Be'ze and Chromclay's Idea Bloods, and utilizes them to facilitate unique magecraft.[8][9][11][10] Noel is her pupil, who she had taken in as a student five years earlier after she had run afoul of a bishop.

Sensing Roa's reincarnation, Ciel assigned herself alone to the town of Souya to punish him. She lives a double life, steadily getting rid of the constantly proliferating vampires by night, and infiltrating a school by day to investigate and observe her Roa body candidate, Shiki Tohno, eldest son of the Tohno family. Despite her suspicions about the assignment of her pupil Noel, she tries to use Shiki to seal and/or destroy Roa, but things don't go as planned.[1]

Appearance

She looks about 16-18.[1] In Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Vlov Arkhangel mentions that she looks a lot like his 8th wife.

Personality

She poses as an upperclassman in Shiki's school but is actually a Holy Church Executor who came to Souya after Roa. The people of the Church call her by the pejorative name Quinze. Although she explains their secrets to Shiki as he gets involved in the situation, the mystery woman doesn't tell him a thing about herself. She's Lawful Good. Extroverted, timid, and active. Ciel has a generally quiet and caring personality. However she's also nosy and curious, and can't leave lazy or depressed people alone.[1]

The character whose personality best fits the big sister archetype. She takes cares of people and does anything they ask. She's satisfied with her class representative-like position... but, things get different if she grows affectionate to the person she's helping. Her teasing can get mean-spirited. Maybe she just likes troubling her loved ones.[1]

However, that's all just the base Ciel. She uses a different persona as an Executor, so she can become a cold-blooded machine to fulfill her objectives if necessary.[1]

When operating as an Executor, Ciel is like a machine whose only purpose is to kill vampires. She is absolutely merciless towards them, even willing to kill children who have been transformed into Dead Apostles. Her process is methodical and inhuman, never complaining about her orders and always performing her task with ruthless efficiency.[4] Ciel has dedicated her life solely to the extermination of vampires as a form of atonement for her past actions as Roa’s host. Since she remembers Roa’s actions in her body as if they were her own, she blames herself for having killed her family and other loved ones, and it is that guilt which drives her to become a killing machine. Her ultimate goal, however, is to die as a human after vanquishing Roa, which she views as the only way she can find salvation.[3] It is only through her relationship with Shiki, and confronting her past in the form of Noel, that she is able to overcome her guilt and find a new reason to continue living.

Due to her guilt surrounding her time as Roa, she refuses to use any of the magecraft knowledge obtained from him against any foes other than Arcueid Brunestud and Roa himself. Instead, she relies on the Black Keys and other standard Sacraments taught to her by the Church.[4]

Role

Tsukihime

Ciel is first introduced on her train trip back to Souya as Shiki's upper-classmate, who she apparently became acquainted with just a week earlier, at least according to her. She is carrying a lot of stuff, having apparently been out early in the morning doing volunteer work at the park. Ciel invites Shiki to visit her at the tea ceremony club after school. Ciel and Shiki's excited chatter is interrupted by a blue-haired sharp-looking middle schooler, who chides them for being loud in public. Ciel has some business elsewhere and leaves Shiki at the station to go to school on his own.[12]

At lunch, Shiki walks out into the corridor and meets Ciel. She offers to make up for the mishap at the train, inviting him for lunch. Shiki secures them a seat next to Arihiko Inui. Supposedly Ciel had at first plans with Arihiko, but dropped it to talk to Shiki. Ciel brings Shiki curry. They have a small chat until Ciel asks where Shiki lives. He hesitates, but Arihiko spills the beans about his circumstances. Shiki gives in and tells Ciel about his family, and how he is moving today. Arihiko feels bad, and eventually tells Ciel he has to talk to Shiki alone. After she leaves, Arihiko tries to cheer Shiki up about the move.[12]

After school, Shiki is pondering on what to do, and not feeling quite ready to go home, he decides to make good on his promise with Ciel and visits her at the tea ceremony club. After going around looking for the place, Shiki finally finds it after consulting a map. Only Ciel can be found in the room. She explains that the tea ceremony club was long abandoned and that only recently has she been trying to revive it. Eventually, Ciel asks him about his family again. Shiki says he never felt like he could properly return's the Arima family's love for him. He explains how with his Father now dead, he was called back to the Tohno mansion. The two start spend the rest of the time small-talking until the school starts to close.[12]

Arcueid Route

Ciel Route

In the Normal End of Ciel's route, when Shiki stabs himself to kill Roa, Ciel sacrifices her own life to keep Shiki from dying from his suicide attempt. It ultimately ends with Shiki training to becoming an Executor in hopes that he can find a way to bring Ciel back to life before he himself dies as well.[13]

In the True End of Ciel's route, Ciel pulls out all the stops to defeat Red Arcueid before she kills Shiki and consumes the city entirely. She first uses up all her magical energy utilizing the Seventh Holy Scripture to snipe Arcueid from afar from minute one. When that fails, now out of juice and having lost one form of the Seventh Holy Scripture, Ciel consumes Vlov's Idea Blood to replenishes her magical energy, knowing she would lose some of her humanity in the process, and continues the assault, with both weapons and magecraft, the latter of which she detests using. Finally, she unleashes the Star of Calvaria, which finally destroys Arcueid's Lumina and splits the city in half.[11]

Abilities

Ciel is a member of the Burial Agency, the Holy Church's very best Executors, capable of fighting against members of the Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors head on.[14] Each of them are failed Saints that rivals a whole Assembly of the Eighth Sacrament on their own.[4] The Burial Agency name is passed down among the Dead Apostles, warning each other of their terrifying power. Hansa Cervantes, an elite Executor states that his own abilities pale in comparison to their power and is insulted that someone would believe that they were on the same level.[14] Ciel has only been an Executor for six years, but during that time her record has been flawless, having eliminated every single Dead Apostle she was sent to exterminate without fail.[4] Over the course of her career as an Executor she has killed three Ancestors on her own, including her own sword master Be'ze, Chromclay Petastructure and Einnashe.[7] As such she is noted to be special even within the den of monsters known as the Burial Agency.[11] During her battle against Arcueid Brunestud, Ciel became the first person to successfully repel a True Ancestor Royalty by themselves.[11]

Physique

Ciel's body has extremely high physical and magical potential.[2] She has exceptionally powerful Magic Circuits with incredible output and magical energy generation. If the average magus's output is 20, Ciel's is 5000. She has over twice the amount of magical energy held by the Clock Tower's record holder McDonell Trambellio Elrod. While his magical energy regeneration is unparalleled, in terms of raw magical energy reserves, Ciel is the undisputed prodigy in TYPE-MOON.[15] Despite lacking dedicated magecraft countermeasures, her body's prodigious generation of magical energy naturally repels any superficial attacks, granting her the equivalent of A-Rank Magic Resistance.[16] This allowed Ciel to remain completely unaffected by Vlov's blue flames as they were conceptual magecraft.[7] She has the magical energy capacity of several hundreds of normal mages put together.[17][18] She is able to reduce Mario Gallo Bestino's threads to ashes just by pouring magical energy into them from her fingertips.[17]

Ciel's possess outstanding physical ability that she increases even further by reinforcing her body with magecraft. Which allows her to wield multiple heavy weapons all at once.[18] In that state her physical capabilities outclasses Shiki Tohno and Vlov Arkhangel. Shiki states that even if his and Vlov's physical ability were stacked on top of each other it still wouldn't measure up to her.[7] She is able to easily carry boulders weighing a few tons with one arm as if they were a tatami mat. She can leap from buildings and between rooftops at high speeds, she is even able to run up the walls of Millennium Castle Brunestud while carrying a person at full sprint without breaking a sweat.[11] She is able to move so fast that Shiki is unable to perceive her and during her battle against Dead Apostle Noel, Ciel was able to smash apart all of Noel's spears that were launched with all of her might and close the distance between them instantly. She easily overpowered her and struck her down with the Seventh Holy Scripture all without even receiving a scratch.[3]

Her body also has potent regeneration that automatically restores areas of her body that sustains damage. This regeneration is what caused her to revive and gain Immortality.[19] Arcueid in her Lumina form states that Ciel's body's capabilities is the pinnacle of human potential, after seeing that Ciel had the mental strength to maintain her mind against her Mystic Eyes.[10] Furthermore Ciel was born with an extremely rare talent that has yet to be explained. A department within the Church described it as being ‘blessed with the birth of an angel’. Conversely, a certain mage dismissed it as nothing more than an innate defect.[16]

Combat

Ciel is a cornucopia of talents,[7] able to wield a wide variety of weapons with extreme precision.[20] She utilizes all types of weapons created by the Seventh Holy Scripture, which includes a pilebunker, a segmented-whip greatsword form, two rifles, and a ballista-like bow. In particular Ciel is a highly skilled Archer, which earned her the codename Bow. She is able to accurately snipe within 5km. Within 500 meters she doesn't even need to look at her target before the last moment. She is able to prepare, calculate distance and outside factors before loading the arrow by pour magical energy and firing all within 0.2 seconds.[11] She is also skilled at martial arts, from kicks and punches to throws and jabs, and she has mastered the multiple different Black Key throwing techniques.[4]

Seventh Holy Scripture

Main article: Seventh Holy Scripture

Ciel's primary weapon or rather weapons against Dead Apostles ranked VII or above. An Anti-Vampire Suppression vehicle that doubles as a factory that creates all types of weapons.[21] Ciel usually utilizes the segmented greatsword-whip, the rifle and the pilebunker. However when she needs to fight from long range, she employs a ballista bow made from a fusion of multiple weapons.[11]

Swordsmanship

Ciel was taught swordplay by Sword Monk Be'ze and was his last disciple. She learned his Phase Slip Swordmanship, a sword style crafted for vampire extermination. While the soul, a higher-dimensional entity, is impervious to direct manipulation, its waves can be perceived. This impact transmission technique, a breach into divine domains, delivers a physical blow capable of penetrating the ethereal. For this reason, Be'ze proclaimed that "The soul is sound." For vampires, blood and the soul are synonymous. Thus, an undead struck by this sword would suffer the depletion of its internal blood (life stock). Given the creator being a swordsman, its efficacy seems to be intrinsically linked to the sword.[16]

Her technique is superior to Vlov Arkhangel's who also learned the swordsmanship, however, she lost their duel as a result of Vlov's Principle continually weakening her after she used Gothic Fort: Cathedral to contain the blizzard from destroying the city, which resulted in it being focused on her.[7] When powered by Vlov's Idea blood and reinforced to the limit, Ciel was able to double the density of the magical energy surrounding her, which allowed her swings that clashed against Arcueid's own dense magical energy distortion to break down the mana around them into elementary particles and set the atmosphere on fire. Ciel was even able to redirect the force of Arcueid's Breath of the Planet, which used a portion of the Earth's rotational force as an attack.[11]

Black Keys

Ciel's primary weapon as an Executor are the Black Keys, one of the standard Scriptural Weapons of the Church created from pages of the BibleWP through magecraft. While seen as an archaic weapon inferior to modern firearms and more difficult to use than Ash Locks by most Executors, Ciel holds the Black Keys to be one of the most effective tools at her disposal, saying they belong among the "conclusive weapons" that Noi Seonator Granfatima speaks of. She prefers the use of them due to their convenience, with her being able to create as many as she needs on the spot so long as she has the magical energy and carry them around wherever she wants. She also finds them convenient due to being easy to sneak them past airport and border security, and not requiring the heavy maintenance the Seventh Holy Scripture does. They are also more useful during her duties rescuing the victims of vampire attacks, as she can hide them beneath her clothing as to not intimidate scared civilians in the way that carrying a large weapon like the Seventh would.[19]

Ciel utilizes her Black Keys as a primary weapon against Dead Apostles under rank VII. She has mastered multiple throwing techniques such as the Iron Plate Effect, and she is so accurate that they don't stray even a milimeter from her intended target. She also makes use of them as a channel for her magecraft, using them to demarcate the boundaries of her Barriers and channel spells such as the Cremation Rite and Internment Rite into them in combat.[4][19] She also shows the ability to both create and control large numbers of Black Keys telekinetically. During her fight with Noel, she manifests hundreds of them in midair and commands them to fall like rain in order to destroy the vampirized Noel's undead minions. Her degree of control over them is such that not one weapon missed its target.[19]

Torture Instrument: Virgin Pain

Ciel wearing the "Torture Instrument: Virgin Pain" armour.

A conceptual device repurposed into an armour, it is modelled on an Iron MaidenWP, a torture instrument made for identifying witches. All those who wear the armour cannot take it off until the armour has affirmed whether they're a witch or not, either dying if it does declare them a witch or if they take off the armour early, but at the same time the wearer cannot die until the armour has finished affirming. Ciel can make great use of this armour as her curse will cause her to revive when she dies from the armour's affirmations, and also will revive her when she dies by removing the armour, thus allowing her to reuse it. At the same time, the armour itself would stop her dying from any attacks while it affirms whether she's a witch or not, minimising the number of brief lapses between her dying and reviving.[7][19]

Ciel used this armour in the battle against Vlov Arkhangel, the device preventing her from dying against his Principle's near-Absolute Zero temperatures. Although she would have been able survive against his Principle in the end, the temperatures would constantly be killing her over and over again and preventing her from moving or fighting.[7]

Other equipment

Ciel's nun outfit that acts as her primary Executor clothing, is an all-purpose, lightly armed armament, with incredible protective abilities. In comparison, the Virgin Pain she used against Vlov is for fights to the death.[19]

Immortality

Ciel possess a unique form of immortality that has her live as long as Roa is alive. The reason Ciel originally revives after her body has been slain by Arcueid and been abandoned by Roa's soul has to do with her magical potential. Her body's power of regeneration is so exceptional that she was able to revive. After her body revived in such a fashion, the World, recognizing her soul as Roa, caused a contradiction to form. While she lived as a unique person for her first twelve years, she was a human born as Roa. She is herself, but she is also Roa because the name of her soul is Roa according to the world.[1][19] Narbareck describes Ciel’s nature with the metaphor of computer software, an authentication error where so long as Roa’s account exists, Ciel is unable to log into (or out of) human society.[3]

She has gained a form of immortality due to the contradiction, always reverting her to her original state no matter the damage, whether it is lethal or not. She cannot age, so she cannot die of old age. Even if she is incinerated to ashes, time will reverse her to her original state. She is not able to die under any circumstance, meaning that she was able to be killed every moment of an entire month without a single negative consequence to her body.

It is not healing or regeneration, but more like any wounds caused to her are "rewound." After cutting her neck, blood sprays everywhere, but within a moment, the wound and all of the blood are gone, returned to how it was before as if being rewound like a video. Even pools of blood are instantly reverted, leaving no trace of having existed, and her heart will start to beat again even with a sword through her brain. The ability does not remove foreign objects impaling her, so she will still be trapped in place even if they cannot kill her. While it is useful in battle, it does not allow her to compete with Arcueid in direct combat. Though she cannot die, Arcueid can kill her repeatedly to keep her from retaliating.

Her power of immortality is so potent that, according to her, she was once exposed to the Monte Cristo Mythologie and, though suffered pain, was undamaged[22] despite its poisonous magical flames and ability to burn souls and nullify regeneration and reincarnation, which is capable of killing Michael Roa Valdamjong permanently.[23] Due to this trait, Noel calls her a monster, who has a body more immortal than any vampire.[4]

Magecraft

Ciel is extremely gifted at magecraft, having by sheer random chance mutated to be born with very powerful Magic Circuits.[2][15] She also has inherited a variety of spells from Roa's knowledge, such as his Numerology, High Speed Incantation, Simplified Repetitive Incantation, Automatic Incantation, suggestion, and Necromancy. By drawing upon Roa's encylopedic knowledge Ciel is able cast difficult spells with ease.[20] Due to her past with Roa, she refuses to use any of his magecraft unless absolutely necessary, such as when fighting against Dead Apostle Ancestors or True Ancestors, relying instead on the Sacraments and weaponry she obtained from the Church in normal fights. However, as Roa notes, because she has such incredibly high aptitude, she never learned to be efficient and precise, as a result, her spells can be wasteful.[11]

She is skilled at creating Bounded Fields, being able to create one in the midst of battle to block Vlov Arkhangel's fire curse.[7] When forced to utilize Roa's Magecraft she primarily uses Gematria, also known as Numerology in Kabbalah. To manipulate electricity, utilizing numerological crests to discharge thunderbolts and other lightning based attacks. She is able to cast a ten-count incantation spell that unleashes bolts of lightning with 2 million volts.[11]

She is highly skilled in the use of Sacraments, having invented a spell known as Tower Ring: Tower of Imprisonment (幽閉塔(タワーリング), Yūhei-tō(Tawā Ringu)?) in order to contain Arcueid. It is a powerful Bounded Field, similar in nature to those used by Noel, that is strong enough to temporarily restrain a Dead Apostle Ancestor. It is conceptually based on the Holy Church's Strasbourg CathedralWP that stood for centuries as the tallest building in the world. It was insufficient to hold back Arcueid, however, forcing Ciel to instead try and use Chromclay's Cathedral Idea Blood instead.[4] During Dead Apostle Noel's Arcade Mode ending in Type Lumina, Ciel uses a Baptism Rite to finish her off.[24]

Ciel disguised as a different high school girl.

She can change her physical appearance, as seen when she takes the form of a different high school girl and can change back to her original appearance by melting away her current appearance.[7] Ciel is also capable of altering and erasing the memories of others, as seen when she takes away Shiki's memories of her.[25] Noel explains that Ciel used her suggestion magecraft to trick Shiki and everyone at school.[19] According to Noel, the amount of magical energy needed to constantly cast suggestion magecraft on as many people as she did at the school is so immense that only she could've done so.[4]

Idea Blood

During her fight with Arcueid, Ciel is revealed to be in possession of three Idea Bloods of the Dead Apostle Ancestors she has killed, Be'ze, Einnashe, and Chromclay Petastructure, located in her chest, abdomen, and right hand respectively. Just by activating one of the Idea Blood, Ciel is able to wash away attacks of inferior magical energy and curses, such as the Noel's Mystic Eyes of Roses which is just a replica of Rita Rozay-en's Idea Blood.[3]

She also acquired the Idea Blood of Vlov Arkhangel after killing him, but in order to replenish her magical energy she turned it into a magical energy reactor, at the cost of her humanity and strain upon her body. It only works for a short time; Vlov's Idea Blood is estimated to only last less than 3 minutes before it becomes exhausted. During that state, Ciel is able to reinforce herself to a level far beyond what's normally possible for her, pushing her body to its very limit. Her all out assault makes the performance she put up against Vlov look like a warm up, as she utilizes the Seventh Holy Scripture weapons while simultaneously casting powerful Numerology spells. While powered by the Idea Blood, Ciel is able to speed up her High Speed Incantation, allowing her to complete a ten-count incantation spell repeatedly within a single breath to constantly fire 2 million volt lightning blasts.[11]

Ciel is able to steal and utilize Prinicples through a technique developed by Roa who found out a way to detune and reconfigure the Principles of Dead Apostle Ancestors, their one-of-a-kind curse for one's own use. This was the goal with his fifteenth incarnation, Ciel.[2][4] Through this technique, Ciel is able to inherit the Idea Blood and Principle of the Ancestors she defeats, and develop greater magecraft derived from them.[1][11] The reason she is able to utilize Idea Blood as a magical energy reactor or as greater magecraft is because of her own inherent Principle, which manifests itself as the power to confront the world while retaining her humanity.[16]

She can use one of them, Chromclay's Cathedral, to create a variant of the original's Idea Blood usage,[9][11] though she cannot do the same with the other three; in the case of Vlov's, she believes it is because the foundation of his Idea Blood is not mature enough to create a greater magecraft from it, let alone weave a new one, instead using it as a magical energy reactor.[11] However, she is able to work around Be'ze and Einnashe's by using the Idea Bloods to initiate separate magecrafts that Ciel created.[8][11][10]

Calvaria Galgalim.

Calvaria Galgalim.

Calvaria Galgalim: Star of Calvaria (カルヴァリアの星(カルヴァリア・ガルガリン), Karuvaria no Hoshi(Karuvaria Garugarin)?): An angelic wheel deployed in the stratosphere, blazing with focused sunlight. A reflector created with magecraft. The 50km long, 10km wide blade of light beaming towards the surface can be compared to an aurora possessing mass, or a guillotine of light. It is greater magecraft that Ciel came up with after defeating the Ancestor who was her sword mentor; apparently she uses his Idea Blood to initiate it. After firing at full power against Arcueid the remaining magical energy was used to fire one last shot, and it was this move that turned the tables in the endgame.[8]It takes 3 minutes to deploy which is the Spell's main disadvantage, however once it's finished charging it's inescapable, falling down so fast Arcueid is unable to even react. It possesses enough power to pin down Arcueid and split the entire city in half. However while it lacked the power to kill Arcueid by itself, Ciel used it to split the city in half and have the two halves of the split city would crush Arcueid while she was pinned down, as Arcueid had elevated the entire city into a spiritual rank on her level.[11] In terms of Mystery it is on the same level as Excalibur, though its usage is very different.[26] As long as the Star of Calvaria remains visible to the target on the ground, evasion is impossible as it strikes with blinding speed.[16]

Cathedral.

Cathedral.

Gothic Fort: Cathedral (大聖堂(ゴチックフォート), Taiseidō(Gochikkufōto)?): A phase-transforming, isolation-type Bounded Field developed to contain Rank IX Dead Apostles. It originally belonged to the Ancestor signifying Kingdom, and was a wall with a 30km diameter that isolated everything it enclosed from the outside world. Compared to the original, Ciel's version is a conceptual barrier that can only contain a single instance or kind of object. On the other hand, it possesses a space distortion function that the original lacked, allowing the user to alter the size of the space within at will. Ciel states that depending on how you use it, it can become the greatest weapon. As this greater magecraft demands a special sort of magical energy to be used, it cannot easily be used repeatedly.[9][7][4] Ciel is able to use it twice before she needs to replenish the "restricted magical energy" from the Idea Blood, which isn't easily done.[19] While it's not alive, Ciel states that it would fall under the category of "large and heavy" in the "mass of life" grading in the world of magecraft. The second strongest category, and if she isolates something and condenses the barrier to its limits she is able to create an ultra dense prison that even Arcueid would take a long time to escape.[4]

« Emissary of Heaven, Crucifixion Reverb. Leaves of Steel, Waves of Iron. Idea Blood Number Seven, Forest of Einnashe. Blossom forth, Altar of the Grove! Strike not a fatal blow, but keep our foe alive in never-ending pain! »

(Ciel's incantation to activate Einnashe’s Idea Blood)

Ciel also has a greater magecraft spell derived from Einnashe's Idea Blood known as Bell Tower due to obtaining their Idea Blood after defeating them. The full functions of Bell Tower are unknown, but Ciel is able to use it to inflict never-ending pain upon an enemy.[10]

Forms and Alternate Versions

Roa-Ciel

Roa-Ciel (ロアシエル, Roashieru?) was Ciel's evil persona after awakening as Michael Roa Valdamjong after her twelfth birthday. She was eventually defeated and killed by Arcueid Brunestud, however, thanks to her inherent regeneration she revived herself after death and gained immortality.

Abilities

While Roa did not have full control of Elesia, she was still able to bring Arcueid helplessly to her knees,[4] and needed just a bit more time to completely "swallow her up" for the Sixth Ritual but an uninvited seventh person appeared, and easily tipped the scales which resulted in Arcueid killing Roa once again.[3]

Miss Ciel

Miss Ciel (知得留先生?, literally "Teacher Ciel") is the reliable instructor of the "Teach Me, Miss Ciel!" segments after the player reaches a bad end.

Development

Conception and creation

Takashi Takeuchi states that while Ciel is the Tsukihime heroine with the biggest variety of outfits, she isn’t particularly fashionable, which fits with her unaffected and sincere personality. She doesn’t stop getting into battle after battle, to the point it feels like all of her CGs are fight scenes. He made her more sprites in cute poses to compensate that.[1]

Takeuchi states that Miss Ciel is mostly identical to the Ciel in the main story, but he drew her a bit older. He also made a military instructor outfit for the more rigorous lessons.[27]

    • Age: 18 (estimated)
    • Blood type: O
    • Height: 165cm
    • Weight: 52kg
    • Birthday: May 3rd
    • Alignment: Lawful Evil (Good from an objective perspective, but Ciel considers herself evil)
    • Likes: Spicy food, volunteer work, tinkering, puppies
    • Dislikes: Lazy lifestyles, vampires
    • Natural enemy: None in particular (she’s an all-rounder)

Comment from the illustrator: One of the main heroines in this game. Arc’s narrative foil. While she’s the Tsukihime heroine with the biggest variety of outfits, she isn’t particularly fashionable, which fits with her unaffected and sincere personality. She doesn’t stop getting into battle after battle, to the point it feels like all of her CGs are fight scenes. I made her more sprites in cute poses to compensate that.

Explanation: Birth name: Elesia. A girl born in the French countryside. Being chosen as Roa's new body caused her to awaken at age 12, become a vampire, take over her village, and eventually become a center figure of what would be called the French Incident. But after being defeated by Arcueid, Roa transferred to the next incarnation and the corpse taken to the Curia revived as Elesia. The girl, now immortal for as long as Roa is alive, discarded her name, was baptized as Ciel, and joined the Church as a vampire hunter. In order to one day die as a human.

Sensing Roa's reincarnation, Ciel assigned herself alone to Souya town to punish him. She lives a double life, steadily getting rid of the constantly proliferating vampires by night, and infiltrating a school by day to investigate and observe her Roa body candidate, Toono Shiki, eldest son of the Toono family. Despite her suspicions about the assignment of her pupil Noel, she tries to use Shiki to seal and/or destroy Roa, but things don't go as planned.

One of the story's heroines. She looks about 16-18. She's poses as upperclassman in Shiki's school but is actually a Holy Church Executor who came to Souya after Roa. The people of the Church call her by the pejorative name Quinze. Although she explains their secrets to Shiki as he gets involved in the situation, the mystery woman doesn't tell him a thing about herself. She's Lawful Good. Extroverted, timid, and active. Has a generally quiet and caring personality. However she's also nosy and curious, and can't leave lazy or depressed people alone.

The character whose personality best fits the big sister archetype. She takes cares of people and does anything they ask. She's satisfied with her class representative-like position... but, things get different if she grows affectionate to the person she's helping. Her teasing can get mean-spirited. Maybe she just likes troubling her loved ones.

However, that's all just the base Ciel. She uses a different persona as an Executor, so she can become a cold-blooded machine to fulfill her objectives if necessary.

    COMMENT from STAFF

    EXPLANATION

    Burial Agency
A secret division of the Holy Church, an organisation of Europe's prominent religion whose name means "universal".

It comprises seven militants called 'executors' after their intended role to "execute the Lord's teachings as His proxy". Its extraterritoriality within the Church precludes the attainment of power and in return affords it freedom from authority. A walking armoury; a security force consisting of a mere handful of people. They are in charge of exterminating the "inhuman things" that never show themselves, which the Church condemned as heresies — vampires.

Ciel holds the seventh seat in the Burial Agency, along with the codename "Bow".

  6. [v] Tsukihime Material I - GLOSSARY: The Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors, p.100

    The Twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors
The 27 individuals who are the apex of Dead Apostles. It is a title that represents their way of being. Though exceptions like the "League of the Age of Gods" of the five old-timers do exist, each is said to be fundamentally individualistic, while not all of them are enemies of man.

In their three thousand year long history some seats have emptied, and apart from those six that are Offenbaum's - Vlov's parent's - "idea" as well as the ideas of 「ripening」,「castle, therefore kingdom」,「sword」, and then the「melting」and「four limbs」 that are sealed by the Church, the remaining ones whose existence has been verified number twenty-one.

Though it takes the Holy Church a hundred years from preparation to execution in order to seal a single ancestor, they are thought to have succeeded only twice. Considering this, it's easy to see how irregular Tohno Shiki's defeat of Vlov was.

    Calvaria's Star
A halo deployed in the stratosphere, blazing with focused sunlight.

A reflector created with magecraft. The 50km long, 10km wide blade of light beaming towards the surface can be compared to an aurora possessing mass, or a guillotine of light. It is High Thaumaturgy that Ciel came up with after defeating the Ancestor who was her sword mentor; apparently she uses his Idea Blood to initiate it.

After firing at full power against Arcueid the remaining magical energy was used to launch one last shot, and it was this move that turned the tables in the endgame.

[v] Tsukihime Material I - GLOSSARY: Cathedral (Bounded Field), p.98

    Cathedral (Bounded Field)
A phase-transforming, isolation-type bounded field developed to contain Rank Ⅸ Dead Apostles.

As this High Thaumaturgy demands a special sort of magical energy to be used, it cannot easily be used repeatedly.

4Gamer: By the way, it’s said that Ciel’s energy output is around 5000 units, while a typical mage would usually muster 20 units. Isn’t that a bit of a tall tale? Even if we’re talking about Rin, a bona fide prodigy, I remember she clocked in at roughly 500 units.

Nasu: It may come across as hyperbolic, but the numbers do hold water. Even someone like Roa, who reincarnates into bodies with progressively greater talents, considers Ciel his crown achievement. To put things into perspective, Trambelio—holder of the Clock Tower’s all-time high in energy output record—maxes out at a 2000 units, which is around Rin’s output.

4Gamer: ...Wouldn’t that elevate her to the status of Type-Moon’s undisputed prodigy?

Nasu: If raw MP were the only yardstick, then yes. However, there are many other factors and unique traits to take into account. For instance, Trambelio boasts the fastest MP recovery rate in the setting, while Zelretch draws upon a bottomless well via his Parallel Worlds Operation. Meanwhile Illya, despite having lower MP, has outstanding circuitry quality. She’s like the What-If Phone Booth from Doraemon or an all-purpose 3D printer.

The Heresy-Annihilating Executor who embodies the truth of the Burial Agency

In order to fight against Ancestor-class Dead Apostles, Ciel has split the heresy-annihilating Conceptual Weapon known as the 'Seventh Scripture' into its constituent Causes of Death and converted them into individual armaments. Wielding the millennium-class relic 'the Seventh Scripture' in a permanent state of excitation consumes an enormous amount of magical energy. As such, this fighting style is only possible for Ciel, since she has the magical energy capacity of several hundreds of normal mages put together. Since she uses a lot of armaments—her main firepower represented by Blaze, Blade and Break—she has reinforced her physical strength with magecraft to use all of her heavy equipment.

Perhaps as a results of specializing herself into a heresy-disposing headsman, her personality has become cold and merciless, much more so than the ordinary Executioner Ciel. Until the opponent's soul has been annihilated through the Seventh Scripture's high firepower and the Idea Bloods she harbors within herself, her offense will never yield.

The Revival of Shingetsutan – An Interview with the Creators Behind the Rebirth of Tsukihime R

Nasu: Ciel’s magical circuits aren’t particularly labyrinthine in structure, but their raw capacity is staggering, which allows her to wield her weaponry with exceptional precision. The Seventh Scripture, for example, has notoriously poor TSFC; any unskilled individual attempting to use it would likely die from emaciation. Simply having high MP is not a golden ticket to casting certain spells either, but Ciel compensates that by drawing on Roa’s encyclopaedic knowledge.

  21. The Revival of Shingetsutan – An Interview with the Creators Behind the Rebirth of Tsukihime R

Nasu: What has been shown of the the Seventh Scripture so far has just been a small part. It's actual purpose is as an Anti-Vampire Suppression Vehicle, in addition to being a factory that creates all types of weapons. The full details will have to wait... I was thinking of revealing things about it little by little.

Comment from the illustrator: Our reliable instructor from the hint segment. The bonus segments were produced all in one go after the main product was complete… True Type-Moon style right there. This makes this design my most recent work. She’s mostly identical to the Ciel in the main story, but I drew her a bit older. I also made a military instructor outfit for the more rigorous lessons.
