Tenochtitlan (City)

Tenochtitlan^WP (テノチティトラン, Tenochititoran^?) was the capital of the Aztec Empire from the 14th to 16th centuries.^[1] Its ruins are now buried beneath Mexico City^WP, the capital of Mexico.^[1][2]

Characteristics

Tenochtitlan was a watery city which was home to some 300,000 souls, populated only by its king, priests, nobles, merchants, and slaves. Lacking even a single farmer, it was the latest and greatest model city of its time.^[1]

Location

Tenochtitlan was built in Metztliapan^WP: The Lake of the Moon (月の湖(メストリアパン)^?). It is a convergence point of the Human Order, bringing about humanity's rest and prosperity. It is essentially a place of power. While it exists on the planet's surface, it has the same leylines as the Inner Sea of the Planet.^[1] The cause has never been directly stated, however, it could have been the Divine Filament's underground network traveling underground through the cenotes.^{[citation needed]}

History

When the Aztec people lost their land, they were forced to wander around Central America for a considerable amount of time.^[3][4] Thanks to the guidance of the god Huitzilopochtli, they eventually reached the lake Metztliapan.^[3] There, they built their capital Tenochtitlan, a water-top city where they came to worship two gods: Tlaloc and Huitzilopochtli.^[1][3][2]

In the lake, there was an Elemental. Elementals typically avoid humans, however, she never left the lake. With time, she became not only the heart of the city,^[4] but a personification of it as well.^[1] Thanks to this, she can be summoned as a Servant.^[1]

It is said that when the conquistador Hernán Cortés and his expedition visited Tenochititlan, they were in awe of this city, the likes of which existed nowhere else in the world. All traces of its glory are now lost, buried beneath Mexico City, the capital of Mexico.^[1]
