Heroic Spirit Swordmasters (英霊剣豪, Eirei Kengō?) are modified Servants appearing in the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity.
Characteristics
Heroic Spirit Swordmasters are rare and exceptional Servants that have been infused with Amakusa Shirou Tokisada's sorcery and Ashiya Douman's Karma of the Absolute Massacre (一切鏖殺の宿業, Issai Ōsatsu no Shukugō?, localized as Curse of Annihilation).[1][2] The Curse initially tampers with their Spiritual Core,[1] shattering and rebuilding their Saint Graphs in the process.[1][3] For this reason, they are considered dead bodies, nothing but hollow vessels of the former Heroic Spirit animated by the evil Karma implanted on them.[4][5][3] Normally, this process causes the Saint Graphs of the Servant to go berserker. However, Douman and Saber of Empireo are exceptions. Being the Caster of the Spell and a Human without a Saint Graph respectively, these two Heroic Spirit Swordmasters are able to retain their egos without going mad.[6]
The Heroic Spirit Swordmasters are incredibly powerful. At the start of the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, all of them were individually stronger than Miyamoto Musashi.[1] It wasn't until Musashi received Senji Muramasa's Myoujingiri Muramasa, reached the Void, and kept training that she became able to match them and even defeat them.[6] For these reasons, it is considered that even a normal Heroic Spirit would have a hard time against a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster in combat.[7]
Heroic Spirit Swordmasters display the following signature abilities:
- Immortality: The Curse of Annihilation keeps the Spiritual Core of the Swordmasters separate from their bodies, granting them artificial immortality.[4][5][8] Normally, the Spiritual Core of a Servant is attached to vital organs like the heart or the brain,[5] however, in the Swordmasters' case, their core is left detached in the Ether.[4] While their organs still play important roles, making them susceptible to some attacks based on Curses like the Curse of the Orochi,[5] they cannot be hurt, killed, or defeated by anny conventional blade.[1] The only ways to permanently kill a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster are:
- Destroying their entire body without leaving a single speck behind. As long as an arm or even a finger remains, they will be able to regenerate.[4]
- A combination of Miyamoto Musashi's extraordinary skill and Senji Muramasa's finest katana, Myoujingiri Muramasa.[4][9]
- Fuuma Kotarou empowered by Katou Danzou's Magical Energy.[10]
- During the Heian-kyō Singularity, Doumain made multiple Shikigami immortal following the same principle as he had with the Heroic Spirit Swordmasters. Alive Sakata Kintoki empowered by Abe-no-Seimei's talismans and Medea Lily's enhancement Spells was able to kill them, however, seeing how he fights, Medea believes that he might have been fine even without her support.[9]
- Monstrous Strength: Heroic Spirit Swordmasters are implied numerous times to be stronger than normal. Miyamoyo Musashi mentions Lancer of Purgatorio displaying this skill.[4]
- Evil Spirit summoning[11][12]
- Unnamed Skill: Heroic Spirit Swordmasters possess a unique Skill that allows them to vanish from the battlefield instantly. Fuuma Kotarou can't figure out the particulars, but he claims that it's similar to Presence Concealment.[12]
- Unnamed Bounded Field: Heroic Spirit Swordmasters can use powerful Magecraft resembling a Reality Marble and what Lady Kannon uses. It creates a battlefield made out of corpses that consumes the Soul of the loser after a fight.[4] It is extremely similar to the Deathmatch Stage used by the Hasshoujin in the Heian-kyō Singularity.[8]
