The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II[Note 1] (ロード・エルメロイⅡ世の冒険, Rōdo Erumeroi Nisei no Bōken)?) is a Fate light novel series acting as a sequel to Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files written by Makoto Sanda and illustrated by Mineji Sakamoto. It is set three years after both Case Files and Fate/stay night.
Story
Setting
Map of the travels in Adventures. Starting from London, it goes to Singapore, followed by Tokyo, then Egypt, Monaco, and finally India.
The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II is set in 2007, three years after both Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files and Fate/stay night. It does not follow a specific route of Fate/stay night, instead taking place after a theoretical fourth route that combines aspects of all three.[1] For example, Shirou Emiya followed Rin Tohsaka to London like in the Unlimited Blade Works route, but their relationship is left ambiguous with Rin claiming that they are not a thing,[2] similarly to the Fate route.
It is also set several years before Kara no Kyoukai: Future Gospel.[3]
While it is not directly related to the story, the events of The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II will lead into the Dismantling War (解体戦争?).[1]

Development
The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II was initially teased in the last pages of the 2019 Lord El-Melloi II Case Files material,[4] before being officially confirmed on the official Twitter of TYPE-MOON as well as its release date for winter 2020.[5]
With Case Files finished Sanda asked Nasu what his next story should be about, and Nasu suggested "how El-Melloi II earned Iskandar's respect". Sanda decided that El-Melloi II guiding Iskandar's son would be a good way to earn that respect,[6] and, to him, the basic way to describe the story of Adventures is "To guide the theophage son of Iskandar, El-Melloi II and Gray go on a journey to identify the gods he ate".[7] He initially wanted to make The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II about the Holy Church, but Nasu asked him to keep writing about mages because content about the Church was for the Tsukihime Remake series.[8]
Considering Adventures is written as a prequel to the Dismantling War, Sanda asked Nasu what he has in mind for it. Accounting for the not unlikely chance that he would be the one writing it, Sanda wrote a few plot drafts based on Nasu's outline, and one of them got approved. He is prepared to write it whenever Nasu tells him to.[6]
Shortly before the release of the fourth volume and the start of the third arc, The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II First material was released on August 10, 2022, to serve as a recap of the previous books and help familiarize new readers with the previous series.[9]
In the eighth volume, an illustration contained an error in depicting Shirou Emiya being in his boxer due to a miscommunication between Makoto Sanda and Mineji Sakamoto. The illustration was corrected in later reprints of the volume.[10]
In the afterword of the eighth volume, Sanda indicated that he believes the last arc of the series, Grand Roll, will take four volumes.[11] Later in interview, he would express that his initial estimate may have been inaccurate, as the script expanded so much that four volumes may not be enough and there's a chance there may even be a fifth volume to end the arc.[6]
