ValkyrieWPs (ワルキューレWP, Warukyūre?) are a type of Divine Spirit from Norse mythology, created by Odin.[1][2][3]
History
In the twilight of the gods, the Valkyries were numerous beings created by the Great God Odin for Ragnarök.[1][2][3] Their creation in some way was related to Altera, Cerebral Corpus of Sefar, Odin possibly having used her to "shape the Valkyrie into a model like 'an automaton as a terminal.'" However, Altera's time as Attila was in the 7th Century, long after the Age of Gods and the Valkyries, suggesting that Odin made them millennia earlier either from Altera or Sefar itself. The Valkyrie are recognized by Altera as younger sisters.[3] They behave and operate as some kind of automated machine as they are Odin's automata, automatic beings who continued to conduct themselves according to the Great God's inclinations.[1][2][3] Brynhildr is the first of the Valkyries,[4] a daughter of Odin and JörðWP as well as a goddess of war,[1] and thus the closest to the gods; the ultimate valkyrie.[4] Dancing in the skies of the battlefield on a heavenly horse, only the valorous souls were chosen to be brought back from the dead to Valhalla. However, their turning point was the moment their eldest sister Brynhildr met with the hero Sigurd. They fell deeply in love with each other. And there, the number of Valkyries gradually declined.[2][3]
In the dawn of Ragnarök, the climactic war of the gods and the Jötnar, reports were already submitted to the Lord of the Clock Tower's Department of Curses in the mid-1980s, noting it was "half of its original". Although temporary, it became a hot topic in the World of Magecraft.[2][3]
Aslaug, the daughter of Brynhildr and Sigurd, was the last Valkyrie. She slept through Ragnarök and awoke in the 9th century, long after the Age of Gods had ended.[5]
Characteristics
Valkyries are the Daughters of the Great God (大神の娘たち, Ōgami no Musume-tachi?). Many of them were created by the highest existence in Nordic mythology, the Great God Odin. Dancing in the sky of countless battlefields, only those with courageous souls who lost their lives in battle were qualified to be taken to the golden Valhalla, the Palace of the Great God. They were tasked to provide the many souls for Ragnarök while carrying them into the noble hall, bestowing victory on them occasionally, whilst continuing to guide the souls of heroes as one of the Lord's Valkyries since ancient times. The end of the Nordic era─── In the twilight of the gods, they were added to the ranks of the Great God's army to slaughter the Jötnar.[1][2][3]
They all exist as maidens of the Great God Odin, but they are all individually Valkyries. As their existence is close to being a Divine Spirit (demigod), they possess a high ranking Divinity skill.[2][3] Though Brynhildr, Thrúd, Hildr and Ortlinde are all demigods, Brynhildr's Divine Core is much closer to that of a true goddess. This is because she was the first one and thus the closest to the gods; the ultimate Valkyrie.[4]
As per the 「Njals SagaWP」, the Valkyries are occasionally depicted weaving with terrifying looms. The girls determined the victory or defeat of the battlefield by ripping up weaved cloth.[2][3] Valkyries can fly at will[6] and understand the language of birds.[7] They are also known as skjaldmærWP, or shield-maidens. Even after the Age of Gods ended and the Valkyries disappeared, it was a source of pride for warrior women to be called skjaldmær like the Valkyries of old.[8]
