Aias [Person's name]
A hero who fought alongside Achilles during the Trojan War. There is both an Aias the Great and an Aias the Lesser, but neither of them met a decent end. The shield of Aias the Great is the famous “Rho Aias: Seven Rings that Cover the Fiery Heavens”.

Boar of Divine Punishment [Noble Phantasm]
Agrius Metamorphosis. The pelt of the Calydonian Boar, a Monstrous Beast which the virgin Goddess Artemis let loose upon the earth. It looks like a wild boar, but that is merely because the lifeform that was used as its basis just happened to be a boar. Just as depicted in the novels, if the pelt is worn by a person, they will become a Monstrous Human rather than a Monstrous Beast.
It grants power equivalent to that of A rank Mad Enhancement and grants an A rank Transformation skill, bestowing various characteristics depending on the environment. In exchange, the wearer loses their reason and, depending on the situation, becomes unable to discern and identify even their Master. It is a Noble Phantasm whose use pretty much equals self-destruction, and its use has never been confirmed in any of the subspecies Holy Grail Wars.
However, even the author himself couldn’t help having doubts about how it transformed into bird wings for Atalanta, fused with her bow and shot arrows weaved out of prana. Was it supposed to be like the T virus or something? (TL Note: The last line is a Resident Evil reference.)

The Miniature World Enclosed by the Azure Sky [Noble Phantasm]
Akhilleus Kosmos. Achilles’ trump card which protects the wielder by deploying a miniature world. A divine armament created by the hands of the blacksmith god Hephaestus. It can event against nearly any attack, whether it be from an Anti-Unit, Anti-Army, Anti-Fortress or even Anti-Country Noble Phantasm. However, due to this Noble Phantasm’s nature, it is weak against Anti-World Noble Phantasms alone.
A description of this shield appears in a hundred lines of text in Book 18 of the “Illiad”. Hephaestus reproduced the world he lived in itself in miniature form in this shield.
In the light novel, Achilles doesn’t use it himself, gave it over to Astolfo for him to use. Naturally, transferring Noble Phantasms would normally never happen in a regular Holy Grail War. Even in the Great Holy Grail War, it would normally be unthinkable.
In the first place, most Noble Phantasms are tied to the legends of heroes. Even if you were to borrow Gae Bolg from the blue spearman, that doesn’t mean you would be able to activate Gae Bolg.
However, there are exceptions. In this case, in addition to the necessary conditions of “being where he is making a contract, instead of being in opposition, of his own volition” and the Noble Phantasm “not requiring considerable skill and power to invoke its true name”, it is believed that the transfer of the Noble Phantasm went smoothly because there is “an episode in the legend of the giver (Achilles) where he loans his Noble Phantasms” and “an episode in the legend of the receiver (Astolfo) where he borrows a Noble Phantasm”.
In addition, when Achilles alone wields it, this shield can be used to “attack” as well. After deploying the Noble Phantasm, he would aim to crush the enemy with that miniature world by continuously pushing forward. Most likely, Hephaestus never thought of such a method of using it.

Alma Petresia [Person's name]
A Christian sister who works at the church under the authority of the Holy Church in Trifas. She is completely unrelated to the Church’s Executors or the Assembly of the Eighth Sacrament, and was merely ordered, “For now, watch over the situation of this town”. She never investigated matters unnecessarily, simply ignoring the existence of the magi in town and passing several decades there in an unconcerned manner.
Naturally, she isn’t able to get excited and passionate at her age… Just when she thought that, she received a shock from the girl who appeared before her suddenly. When Alma first saw her, she realized with a glance that she was the esteemed saint Jeanne d’Arc and almost fainted.

Althea [Person's name]
The homunculus who aided in searching for Assassin of Black. After the war, she went with Caules to London. She actually appears stealthily in one of the illustrations of Volume 3, instead of Tool.
The homunculi created by Gordes have somewhat varied personalities and abilities, and Althea is a model that excels in magecraft. Her personality is exactly like that of a homunculus: reserved, yet wicked tongued. In London, she basically helps with household chores… She is also responsible for helping with Caules’ magecraft, but she has taken up a part-time job searching for familiars with magecraft.

Amaranth of the Brave [Noble Phantasm]
Andreias Amarantos. The Noble Phantasm that maintains Rider of Red’s immortality. It grants his entire body, excluding his heel, the blessing of immortality, and negates all attacks from those who don’t possess the “Divinity” skill. Also, if the skill’s rank isn’t equal or higher than Achilles’ own “Divinity” rank, the damage won’t go through completely, reduced to 75% of the damage for D rank “Divinity” and to 50% for E rank. Additionally, even without Divinity, damage will be dealt as long as the attacking Noble Phantasm is a divine armament. In that case, the damage calculation would depend on the rank of the divine armament.
As a certain person would say, “You need a hard boss that attacks with Level 30 Death in a pre-emptive strike to beat him.” That isn’t chivalrous or heroic at all…!

Scorpion Shot [Noble Phantasm]
Antares Snipe. Archer of Black’s trump card, a sniping Noble Phantasm that shoots a shining star. It is a conceptual materialization of the Sagittarius constellation, but it is not as if it cannot activate without the constellation present. It has a tracking ability, naturally, and it doesn’t even need for its true name to be released or for it to be filled with prana in order to activate. After all, as long as there is a night sky, “the star of the archer always aims at the scorpion”, and so it only requires for him to move his fingers away from the already drawn bow. It has a secondary effect, but, like in the novels, there is extremely little chance of it being spoken of even if the Noble Phantasm is used. However, it can only shoot once every night. Considering the average length of a normal Holy Grail War, he would be limited to using it about fourteen times.
Though its rank is high, it has the weakness of not having attack power worthy of special mention, so he has to try to achieve a one-shot kill as much as possible each time he uses it.
In his battle against Mordred, Archer could not see any weak points in her armor and feared that she might escape after he used it, so he withheld using the Noble Phantasm.

Archer of “Black” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp. His true name is Chiron. He is a centaur—a half-human-half-horse race, and he is a famous great sage in Greek myth.
 He has a calm and gentle personality, but though he treats his Master with respect, he won’t hold back on advice if it’s for the sake of his Master. He never scorns or despises others regardless of whether they are enemy or ally, and he is exceptionally calm among the intense and passionate heroes of Greek myth. He acted as the strategist of the Black camp and continued to support his camp day and night right until he took part in the final battle.
Usually, centaurs are considered both as great huntsmen who effortlessly use bows and arrows while running with their horse legs and as savage monsters who would steal anything and everything. It seems Chiron alone is regarded as a “sage” that stands out as an exception among them.
Chiron was born from Cronus, father of the head god Zeus, and Philyra, the goddess of a certain island. However, because Cronus had copulated with her while she was turned her into a horse, Chiron was born as a half-human-half-horse centaur. (There is also the theory that they were attacked by Cronus’ wife Rhea while they were in the middle of copulating and Philyra turned into a stallion in order to run away.) Balking at the idea of giving milk to a monster like Chiron, Philyra changed her form into that of a linden tree.
Though he was never loved by his mother and father, Chiron became a sage that excelled in all forms of knowledge as he grew up. This is not necessarily unrelated to the fact that his mother’s name “Philyra” means linden tree. The leaves of linden trees can be used as restoratives, and the tree bark can be used in divination or as written boards.
After becoming an adult, Chiron began to rear the “future heroes” who implored for his tutelage from all over Greece. Besides Heracles and Achilles, the heroes who received his teaching include those like Asclepius, who later became the god of medicine, and Castor, who was sublimated as the Gemini constellation. Jason, the leader of the Argonauts who enticed Medea, is also one of his students.
On a certain day, someone shot a poison arrow at him while trying to stop a dispute between centaurs, and the poison continued to endlessly make him suffer due to his immortality, until he became the Sagittarius constellation by returning his immortality to the gods and finally received salvation. His wish for the Holy Grail while participating in the Holy Grail War is to regain his immortality. To him, it is the only gift he received from his parents.
As a Servant, his stats have received a slight rank down due to giving up his immortality and transforming his legs into those of a human, but even then he boasts of specks high enough for him to be called a first-rate Servant—to an extremely abnormal extent in a certain sense. In the first place, it appears that he taught not only swordsmanship, archery and horse-riding, but also wrestling techniques, so he is relatively experienced in moving with human feet.
With the combined effects of his skills, he can even utilize a pseudo-form of future sight, making him truly all-purpose in his abilities. If he has a weakness, it is that he lacks a decisive trump card. Against the brute force approach that throws away all wisdom or intelligence, his strong points fade away.
He deeply loves how weak and insufficient humans struggle despite their insufficiency and still try to move forward, so even if he was summoned as part of the Red camp, he would have definitely rebelled against them with the resolve to die.
Though if he were to describe it himself, he would merely answer, “This is my arrogance as a teacher, as embarrassing as it is”.
In the novels, he was mainly focused on his fight with Achilles outside of his light skirmish with Mordred. After all, Chiron was the only one capable of harming Achilles. That battle was such a great joy to him that he even forgot his true nature as a Servant, but he stood back up as a Servant again at the moment of his death and accurately dealt a fatal wound to Achilles.

Archer of “Red” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Red camp. A huntress who wears beautiful green clothing. Her charm points consists of those things on her head that look like animal ears and that thing on her lower back that looks like a tail.
Her true name is Atalanta. She is a huntress who is famous for her swift feet in Ancient Greek legend. Just as told in the original myth, she has the tragic past of being born as the daughter of a king and yet being abandoned in the mountains by her father. After being raised by a female bear and later adopted by a hunter who treaded into the mountains, she has developed her skills conspicuously, perhaps due to her latent talent.
There are three tales that she is famous for. The first is how she was chosen as a member of the Argonauts led by Jason.
The second is the extermination of the Calydonian Boar. The third is the dispute over her marriage. None of these tales had a particularly happy ending for her, and her distrust of men became extremely strong due to the third one in particular as well.
After all, to Greek warriors at the time, battle was both an offering to the gods and a way of trampling over others. Atalanta liked none of them since these warriors acted more violent than necessary when they hunted. However, there was one man named Peleus who she was fond of, for he was the only one who approached her with a humble attitude.
The reason she is obsessed over children is due to her own origins. The despair she felt as a baby was just that strong. She would happily throw away her own life to become a stepping stone to realizing a world where all children are saved.
The reason she cooperated with Shirou is also because she clung to the idea that his wish would lead to her own wish. Since it is uncertain whether the Holy Grail would be able to grant her wish, his words which spoke of a clear form of salvation might have seemed just like the gospel to her.
She has two Noble Phantasms, but one of them would normally be impossible to use in a regular Holy Grail War, so practically speaking, her only Noble Phantasm is “Phoebus Catastrophe: Complaint Message on the Arrow”.
Her animal ears and tail seem to be the symbols and after-effects of a curse told of in her legend… or so they should have been, but she actually seems to like them.

Arjuna [Person's name]
Karna’s rival in Ancient Indian epic poem, the “Mahabharata”… Or rather, story-wise, Karna is the rival and Arjuna is the one who is in the position of protagonist. He is Karna’s younger brother from a different mother, but Arjuna continued to fight Karna without ever knowing that.
He has an honest and faithful personality that seems to embody justice itself. (At the very least, the people around him, including Karna, perceived him that way.)
Both in the present as a summoned Servant and in his lifetime, Karna lived without fussing over anything, but the only thing that the detached Karna ever felt an obsession towards was Arjuna.
Even when his mother Kunti begged him not to fight his five younger brothers, including Arjuna, Karna swore to not fight any of them except for Arjuna. Even for his mother’s request, Arjuna was something to Karna that he couldn’t turn over.
And it was the same for Arjuna as well. To him, Karna was—
…These two will probably be told of in another work someday. At least, it would be nice if that happened.

Blood Armor of the Evil Dragon [Noble Phantasm]
Armor of Fafnir. The continuously active Noble Phantasm of Saber of Black, Siegfried. Negates all attacks of B rank and below.
When receiving regular A rank attacks, the armor’s defensive rank of B will be subtracted from the attack’s offensive rank of A… in other words, it will be reduced to effectively an E rank attack, but in the case of an attack by a Noble Phantasm, the armor’s defensive value will rise to the rank of B+. However, this additional defensive value will not be included in the attack calculations should the enemy use a Noble Phantasm or skill that has the properties of an Anti-Dragon special attack. Furthermore, the B+ defensive value is only applicable when he is attacked while defenceless, and the armor’s defense will be further reduced should he take defensive action with “Balmung: Phantasmal Greatsword”. When he goes all out in a defensive battle, Siegfried is effectively a moving fortress.
However, since the effects of this armor do not apply to the single spot on Siegfried’s back that was covered by the leaf of a lime tree, it becomes extremely difficult for him to be healed with healing magecraft if he is wounded there even once.

Assassin of “Black” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp… or so they should have been, but she deserted and took action independently. Their true name is Jack the Ripper. The serial killer from London who is the most famous of their kind in the entire world.
Usually, serial killers fall into two general categories. The orderly type and the chaotic type; those who can commit murder while maintaining a certain amount of reason and order, and those who commit murder based on reasons that are completely illogical and no one besides themselves can understand. The first type is overwhelmingly harder to catch, since the second type does not even destroy the evidence of their crimes. And Jack the Ripper was the chaotic type.
Even though much evidence was discovered, Jack the Ripper was never caught. It has been cited to have been due to the limits of scientific investigation at the time and due to the initial investigation getting a late start because the victims were only prostitutes.
On the other hand, despite being a chaotic type serial killer, Jack the Ripper also displayed actions such as sending a letter to a newspaper and inciting a panic. Though there is a strong possibility that the letter was a fake, there was no evidence that could completely prove it was a forgery.
The reason that Jack the Ripper is, in a certain sense, so universally extolled throughout the world is due to the overwhelming number of mysteries surrounding this serial killer. Therefore, when Jack the Ripper is summoned as a Servant, he or she can undergo various changes depending on the class or location he or she is summoned in. These changes continue to occur, except in the case where the “true Jack the Ripper” was fixed and settled by the Holy Grail.
…The Jack the Ripper that was summoned this time is an amalgamation of the children who were aborted by the many prostitutes who lived in White Chapel, London. Having not even being allowed to be born, these boys and girls sought to return to their mothers’ wombs and repeatedly committed murder. To put it another way, this is the heretical Jack who was born from the “side of the victims”.
However, even they themselves do not know for certain whether or not they were “Jack the Ripper”. After all, they are an amalgamation of evil spirits, so their memories are always vague and, even if they remember having killed prostitutes, it’s uncertain who exactly they killed. What they kill as Assassin is not a specific individual, but rather the society that killed them, and the strong emotions they carry cannot be understood by any other hero, making them beyond salvation.
Perhaps due to their great fame, they stand out as an excellent Servant. Due to being a murderer, their efficiency as a “soul eater” is extremely high, and even with Rikudou Reika who was an ordinary person and virtually unable to provide any prana as a Master, they were able to continue maintaining their first-rate battle power by continuing to kill others for prana.
On the other hand, their difficulty in being handled by their Master is the highest among the Servants of this Great Holy Grail War. In the first place, it is dubious whether they even understand the fundamental duty of a Servant to “obey their Master”. To them, the present world isn’t somewhere to return to, but rather nothing more than a strange and unknown place… In other words, they hold no lingering affections for the world of the living.
Considering that, the compatibility between Jack and their former master Sagara Hyouma was pretty much the absolute worst possible—or rather, perhaps it is better to say that all magi have the worst compatibility with Jack. Rikudou Reika is the only Master that is compatible with the existence known as Jack.
After being sublimated by Jeanne’s hands and having their binding as an amalgamation of evil spirits collapse, they will never be summoned again. Even if the conditions are exactly the same next time, a different “Jack the Ripper” will merely be summoned.

Assassin of “Red” [Servant]
One of the Servants and masterminds of the Red camp. A peerless beauty who wears a black dress. She refers to herself quite haughtily, but she is actually a comparatively straightforward person.
Her true name is Semiramis. The legendary empress who is called the world’s oldest poisoner. Though her class is Assassin, she actually has the traits and abilities of the Caster class as well. She likes decadent luxury, but that does not mean that she hates the simple things in life. In this Greater Holy Grail War, she set out to bring about the realization of the Third Sorcery along with Shirou Kotomine.
The rank of her Agility and Presence Concealment is low for an Assassin, but, thanks to her Noble Phantasm “The Hanging Gardens of Babylon: Aerial Gardens of Vanity”, her magical attack boasts of enough power to make someone like Caster of Red run away barefooted. Also, just as its name suggests, the Hanging Gardens has the special ability to move while floating in mid-air and it can also attack while maintaining a strong defense.
However, in a normal Holy Grail War, Semiramis would be in an extremely disadvantageous position. Since her Noble Phantasm is so huge, it is practically impossible for her to conceal her presence. Also, some very difficult conditions must be met before her Noble Phantasm can be activated in the first place. Furthermore, even if she managed to activate the Hanging Gardens after much hard work, she would not be able to defend the Gardens by herself. No matter how much peerless power she boasts of, she will always be at a disadvantage when fighting alone. A Greater Holy Grail War like this might be precisely one of the few chances that allow her to fully demonstrate her specialties.
Like Atalanta, she was abandoned by her mother as a child. In her case, it is said that she was warmly embraced and raised by doves, perhaps due to her being a demi-god. Afterwards, she went on to marry the old general Onnes, but she was forcefully stolen away by King Ninus, who was enraptured by her beautiful face. A few days after Semiramis became empress, which she suggested to King Ninus in order to deepen her affection for him, she killed him with poison—or so it is said.
What lies at her core is an absolute rejection towards others. She doesn’t like solitude, but as someone who prefers being aloof and superior, all humans have to be “people who unquestionably serve her” in her eyes. The reason all the Servants who should nominally be her allies hate her is because they intuitively sensed her way of thinking.
…However, due to the man who is both a priest and a Servant and who, despite being “someone who walks alongside her” instead of “someone who serves her”, held not the slightest interest in Semiramis herself, her thoughts and feelings became disordered and fell to pieces.
This is because this was the first time for Semiramis that someone valued her not for her “beauty”, but rather for her “abilities”. At first, that attitude towards her made her feel good, then she felt a strange anger, and finally her chest was pained by a feeling that she tasted for the first time since she was born—a feeling that could be called heartache.
In the end, the kind of person she truly liked was someone who moved forward without looking back at her at all… It was already too late by the time she realized that, though.
“When the Third Sorcery is realized, you will become the queen who rules the entire world”… is what Shirou told her, but in truth, she wasn’t that obsessed with ruling the world. What she truly sought and wished—was something that she couldn’t understand even at the brink of death.
Perhaps what this poisonous woman sought was something like pure water.

Phantasmal Greatsword, Felling of the Sky Demon [Noble Phantasm]
Balmung. The Noble Phantasm of Saber of Black, Siegfried. The Nibelungs, a tribe which lived in an underground country, requested that Siegfried fairly and impartially divide up and distribute their treasure, and he accepted the request. Balmung was planned to be given to him as payment for this. However, two kings felt that the allocation of treasure was done unfairly (both kings felt they were being treated unfairly, so it’s highly possible that it was actually divided up fairly without Siegfried favoring either one) and fought Siegfried, but he killed them in return.
The remaining treasure which no longer had an owner became Siegfried’s, and Balmung also became his weapon. He wielded Balmung in every battle after that. It is also said that he won in the battle against Fafnir thanks to Balmung.
It is a sword of twilight that has reached A rank and possesses the quality of both a holy and cursed sword. Perhaps because it was owned by a king, it specializes in fighting against armies, shooting off a semi-circular slash wave. The blue jewel attached to the handle stores True Ether to use as a boost when activating the Noble Phantasm.
Now then, it does have a fast activation rate for a so-called beam weapon, but in a comparison of speed, Siegfried when he was alive was the fastest in activating it, with Sieg being the next fastest and the Servant Siegfried being the slowest out of them.
Sieg possesses the “Galvanism” ability, which the Servant Siegfried does not have, and can draw out the needed prana all at once when activating the Noble Phantasm. The living Siegfried, on the other hand, had his inborn disposition combined with the transformation of his heart due to being bathed in and drinking a dragon’s blood, so he could draw forth prana and fire the slash wave even faster than Sieg. Unfortunately, the moment he was summoned as the Servant Saber, that special characteristic of his was highly degraded.

Bašmu [Summon Creature]
The giant poisonous snake summoned by Semiramis, Assassin of Red, with the power of “Sikera Ušum: Arrogant King’s Alcohol”. It is one of the eleven demons birthed by the monster of Babylonian legend, Tiamat. It is a species of Divine Beast, the top of all Phantasmal Species, but even Semiramis wouldn’t be able to summon something so powerful in that rushed situation, so she only summoned its top-half.
If Shishigou hadn’t used a Command Spell on Mordred, she would have immediately died the instant Bašmu opened its mouth and released its poisonous breath.

Berserker of “Red” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp. Her true name is Frankenstein. Her source, it goes without saying, is Mary Shelly’s novel “Frankenstein: or the Modern Prometheus”.
She is a girl clad in a wedding-dress-like outfit. I think it’s very natural for people to point out “But Frankenstein was male in the novel!”, but her true role is to give birth to Adam… a male artificial human.
She is an artificial human—a homunculus made by Victor Frankenstein, a genius scientist and alchemist, using the power of lightning.
Perhaps due to being summoned by Caules, whose abilities were inferior compared to the rest of the Black camp, she isn’t that powerful as a Servant even with the Mad Enhancement of a Berserker.
Due to her unique skill “Galvanism”, she has the big advantage of efficiently replenishing her prana supply at an abnormally high rate, but since her prana supply is being taken care of by the homunculi in this war, that advantage is made useless. Her Noble Phantasm also only reaches B rank by making a suicide attack, while the rest of the time its destructive power is at best C~D rank. Most likely, she would be incapable of winning in either a normal Holy Grail War or the Great Holy Grail War unless she had great luck and her Master had excellent judgement.
Excluding Siegfried, she is the first Servant to leave the stage. Even her last act of unleashing her Noble Phantasm with the remainder of her power mustered forth should have ended up being meaningless, but—
Those who have read the final volume will know what happened regarding her afterwards. The Noble Phantasm she used bounced over to a new owner, saved the world, and brought Caules and the others victory.
She gives off the image of a large-breed dog that, despite never wagging her tail and always making a bored expression, desperately approaches people. Like how she always kept close to Caules when she walked behind him.
Due to having been rebuked for her lack of emotion, she tries to be sensitive of people’s feelings. When she noticed that Caules was painfully forcing himself to speak coldly as he used his final Command Spell, Frankenstein realized the seemingly miraculous fact that “someone would feel sorrow over her death”. That was, without a doubt, the first precious and beautiful experience in her entire life.
There is an extremely low possibility of a second Frankenstein being born due to her Noble Phantasm “Blasted Tree: Lightning Branch of Crucifixion”.
She drew out that possibility with her strong will.
Thought this is a digression, I think Fran-chan in “Capsule Servant” looks super cute as her head rolls off when she is defeated, but what do you think?

Berserker of “Red” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Red camp. A Servant truly worthy of the title of mad warrior, who completely ignored the plans of the other Servants and Masters and disappeared like a star after merely rampaging around. His true name is Spartacus, the strongest gladiator who raised a large-scale rebellion of slaves in Ancient Rome.
Spartacus was the leader of a revolt and led the other slaves as a skilled leader, but he always fought at the head of the front lines, and even when the revolt was subjugated by the army, he fought until his death. Perhaps due to that, Spartacus’ corpse is said to have been torn to pieces and never found anywhere on the battlefield afterwards.
Having been summoned as a Berserker, Spartacus is always thinking of only “rebellion”. Because of that, it is widely said that he is a Servant who wouldn’t hesitate to kill his own Master and whose “defeat is certain from the moment he is summoned” among the regular subspecies Holy Grail Wars—However, in truth, Spartacus wouldn’t actively revolt against his Master. His Mad Enhancement is EX rank and it is virtually impossible to come to a mutual understanding with him, but he is capable of judging whether his Master is an “oppressor” or not.
…The problem is that pretty much all the Masters who participate in the subspecies Holy Grail Wars are magi in the first place, and they are categorized as oppressors in the eyes of Spartacus.
If his Master was someone who “accidently got involved in the war”, it would be fully possible for Spartacus to fight at their side right until their defeat. Though I will not give names, he is particularly compatible with a certain red-haired boy. His battle is always against those above him and against himself, after all. Of course, it’s another matter entirely whether or not they would be able to achieve victory in the Holy Grail War.
Though the chances of it are low, should Spartacus be summoned as a Saber, even more caution (in terms of rebellion) would be needed against him, demonstrating how troublesome a Servant he is. But he might still have a chance of winning if he was chosen by a child who doesn’t know anything.

Bram Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri [Person's name]
Sola-Ui’s younger brother, who existence is briefly referenced in “Fate/Zero”. He is an utterly spoiled son of a rich family who inherited the Magic Crest of the Sophia-Ri family. A rough drawing of him should be included somewhere in this section. I believe it’s a drawing that really gives off the image of a guy full of confidence and pride, yet who will be inevitably dragged into a tragedy at some point, but what do you think?
His abilities are first rate, but he has somewhat of a trauma due to how his (future) brother-in-law went out full of confidence and yet came back in a wretched state in the past. In this Great Holy Grail War, he had the duty of collecting the catalysts for summoning Heroic Spirits. The fact that he gathered that many catalysts in such a short time was largely because the Sophia-Ri had secretly concealed and stored many of them and because he made use of his family’s connections to get the rest. It goes without saying that the collection of so many catalysts at once is limited to “Apocrypha” alone.

A Maiden's Chastity [Noble Phantasm]
The Lightning Tree of Crucifixion [Noble Phantasm]
Bridal Chest.
Blasted Tree. The Noble Phantasm of Berserker of Black, Frankenstein. To be precise, “Bridal Chest” is the Noble Phantasm, and “Blasted Tree” is a derivative of it. “Bridal Chest” serves as Frankenstein’s heart. Viktor took out her heart and modified it into a sturdy mace. Through a remote link, “Bridal Chest” provides Frankenstein with enormous power by sucking in the residual prana in the environment. It is a pseudo-Type II Perpetual Motion Machine. “Blasted Tree” is an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm that uses the prana from “Bridal Chest” and converts it into lightning, before discharging it all at once.
Since she is a modern era Heroic Spirit, its output is low, but as you already know, this Noble Phantasm served an extremely crucial role in the novels.
This is a digression, but the lack of the skill “Galvanism” in Frankenstein’s Servant data in the third volume was a mistake. I’m very sorry for that.

Coupled Reinforcement Mystic Codes [Others]
Bronze-Link Manipulators. A Mystic Code that Fiore designed herself. It takes over the role of her paralyzed legs. It consists of four prosthetic arms equipped to her back. It was forged using a special alloy that easily conducts prana and is possessed by four animal (dog) spirits, so while Fiore can move them according to her will, the arms also move automatically to protect their master.
Unlike the Volumen Hydrargyrum that Kayneth El-Melloi designed, its movement pattern memories are kept to a minimum. When too many movement patterns are recorded into it, it exceeds the thought process limit of the animal spirits. In other words, it is slightly inferior to Volumen Hydrargyrum in terms of attack power. In exchange, its defense—its function to protect its master fully uses the reflex speed of the animals, so it can’t be broken through with a normal Mystic Code.
When she controls it herself, the prana burden is quite large, but when it’s switched to auto-mode, the prana burden is lessened. It is best described as a Mystic Code whose defensive aspect is more strongly ironed out than its offense.
Incidentally, this is a secret to everyone besides Caules, but Fiore gave each arm the pet names Aster, Blanca, Comet and Wolf respectively.

Declaration of Complete Destruction [Noble Phantasm]
Casa Di Logistilla. One of the cheat Noble Phantasm of Rider of Black, Astolfo. A witch specially gave it to Astolfo after being charmed by him. This book, containing written within it the means to destroy all spells, can grant A rank Magic Resistance just by possessing it.
Not only that, if its true name is invoked—in other words, if the book is read, one can drag out the possibility of destroying any spell. It could perhaps be called a form of “Eye of the Mind” limited to magecraft. It is the Noble Phantasm that represents the cheat-ness of Astolfo.
Because Astolfo irresponsibly called it by the name “Luna Break Manual”, its true power invoked by its true name didn’t appear until volume 5. Even leaving that aside, it is such an outrageous Noble Phantasm that, if someone like the Witch of Colchis knew about it, she would put him on her list of people to immediately kill at the earliest opportunity.

Caster of “Black” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp. His true name is Avicebron, but his official name is Solomon ben Judah ibn Gabirol. He was a philosopher, poet and Kabbalist, a magus who used the magecraft branch of Kabbalah, from the 11th century. He also has the nickname of “Plato of Judea”.
It doesn’t need to be said, but he’s completely unrelated to Solomon, the son of David who was served by 72 demons. Fearing that their names might get mixed up, I decided to use “Avicebron” instead.
As a Caster-class Servant, he is the type that’s a bit hard to handle. He is basically loyal to his Master, but great expense and time is needed in order for him to display his full abilities. Darnic had Roche summon Caster first because a large amount of time and a budget great enough to bankrupt a regular magus ten times over was needed just to construct his workshop for making golems. However, once he gets on track, he can create golems for making more golems, so perhaps not being too concerned about labor cost is a virtue for him.
He was weak and feeble due to suffering from many illnesses, and his skin disease was especially serious. As a result, it is said that he was pessimistic and gloomy, and in the novels he fully displays that personality. After all, even when he died, he kept wearing his mask and never revealed his face.
According to history, Avicebron is said to have imparted his philosophical ideas from Arabia to Europe. Also, he created the word “Kabbalah” from the Hebrew word for “receiving”.
According to legend, he made a female-type golem to take care of his daily household chores and necessities. In these novels, he tried to create the “first human Adam”, similar to Victor Frankenstein. However, unlike Victor, who simply acted out of ambition, Avicebron’s goal was to sweep away the suffering of his people and attain true Eden.
His personality is timid and cool-headed. While he understands his own weakness, his ardor in participating in the Holy Grail War was unusually great. However, his objective was mostly granted by creating and activating “Adam”. How “Adam” would act after that was something unrelated to him.
Even if he was destroyed, Avicebron would merely accept that result.
The reason he joined sides with the Red camp is, rather than for the sake of self-protection, because his objective wouldn’t be achieved if he remained with the Black camp, so he chose the better choice.
The reason he was pierced by Archer of Black’s arrow with practically no resistance is partly due to his weak physical strength, but also he had already resolved himself to become nourishment for “Adam”. Fighting alongside a Master who respected him didn’t feel bad to him at all, but even so, he couldn’t defy the temptation of to have his wish, which he had devoted his entire life to, finally within reach. And he simply thought that he should pay reparations for that choice. For Avicebron, his own life was worthless in his eyes. To put it more accurately, the moment his Noble Phantasm was completed, he logically concluded that his value had become zero.
According to legend, he was killed by a man jealous of his poetic talent and was buried beneath the roots of a fig tree. It is said that the nearby people who thought it was strange that the fig tree was producing such overly sweet fruit dig it up, thereby exposing the man’s crime—

Caster of “Red” [Servant]
One of the Servants and masterminds of the Red camp. He has the lowest position among the masterminds. After all, the way he betrayed his Master after saying “Hmm, this Master seems still and uninteresting. Eh? Saving the entire world? My, that seems fun. I’ll help, I’ll help!” is essentially the impulsive and unpredictable action of a young man.
His true identity is the famous ultra-literary master, William Shakespeare. There’s no need to talk about the details about his background at this point; he’s one of the most well-known writers in the world, after all. Writer-type Servants are pretty much all idiosyncratic and hard to deal with, and naturally he’s also one of them. He has no fighting power, but he’s the best when it comes to powering up his Master. The more of a character that his Master is, the more his writing excels, or so he says. In other words, strengthening his Master and having him fight as an Assassin is Shakespeare’s style of fighting in a Holy Grail War. Naturally, no matter how much he strengthens his Master, the chances of them beating a Servant is extremely low—but it’s said that he managed to bring about that unlikely possibility just once in one of the subspecies Holy Grail Wars.
He loves the stories he writes beyond anything else, and he spares no love for his characters. On the other hand, he finds mediocrity unpleasant. By the way, his definition of “mediocre” is not based on someone’s abilities or appearance. The ones he calls mediocre are the people who don’t decide, the people who don’t choose, the people who defer and put things on hold, and the people who aren’t deeply moved by the miracle of living every day.
Though it’s repetitive to say, he has absolutely no fighting power. However, his fame has spread across almost the entire world, and the illusions created by the “theatrical troupe” are a form of magecraft that, though incapable of dealing direct damage, is perfect for wreaking chaos and confusion. Well, he also sometimes sends his own allies into disorder as well, though.
The final words he said at the moment of his death are one of the few true and honest words said by this man who normally glosses everything over with beautiful lines of literary. Shakespeare actively worked as an actor alongside his career as a playwright. So he probably couldn’t help but burn with the desire to act as the leading actor on the grand stage of the Great Holy Grail War.
Incidentally, in the prototype version of “Fate/Apocrypha”, his Noble Phantasm’s name was the same, but its role was greatly different. During the initial plot when Shakespeare was supposed to be an ally, there was a scenario where “just as the protagonist is about to die, his Servant Shakespeare activates his Noble Phantasm and somehow manages to find a way to survive”, but the idea was quickly discarded.

Caules Forvedge Yggdmillennia [Person's name]
A Master of the Black camp, and a member of the Yggdmillennia clan. He comes from the Forvedge family. He specializes in summoning low-class spirits, insects and animals. Fiore was born with exceptional Magic Circuits that appear in someone only once in a hundred years, but since it was uncertain whether the paralysis of her legs could be cured, the present head of the Forvedge family had his wife give birth to Caules as both a spare successor and a caretaker for Fiore.
Unfortunately, a miracle didn’t occur a second time, and when he saw Caules’ mediocrity that embodied the decline of the Forvedge family, the family head decided that Fiore should be made the successor even if her legs didn’t function and ordered Caules to be her caretaker.
Caules himself studied magecraft while half-resigning himself to a carefree life. But as time went on, he began to feel a slight sense of impending crisis not only in Fiore, but the entire Forvedge family. It was fine for their parents to thoroughly drive the teachings of magecraft into Fiore by personally educating her, but as a result, Fiore ended up growing up as an unfortunate young lady who did not know a single thing outside of magecraft…!
Therefore, the only thing he could do was meddle in his older sister’s affairs as a helpful younger brother. Even during the Holy Grail War, he went with Fiore to Romania as her backup. There, Command Spells appeared on him and he ended up being made in charge of Berserker.
He essentially followed the creed that magecraft is an accessory to human life, and he had not the slightest intention to devote his entire life to magecraft. But, his slightly pessimistic way of thinking seems to have greatly changed over of the course of the Great Holy Grail War. His way of thinking is simple and dry, and if he were to have faced his sister in a regular Holy Grail War, Fiore would have forever despaired after killing him, but Caules would have resolved himself after having first despaired and unhesitatingly killed her. In other words, his consciousness as a magus is greater than Fiore in a certain sense.
At the same time, Caules also has abundant present-day knowledge, and he was the one to teach Fiore about cell phones. By daring to rely on technology, he gained some leeway and flexibility in that area, and he tried to expand his poor specs as a magus even slightly. Though he has much more leeway after having the family’s Magic Crest transplanted in him, he is still far from being a first-class magus.
After the Great Holy Grail War, he spent his days in shame while being watched by the Association of Magi in London… However, one day, Caules had his class changed with a single phrase by a certain long-haired and mean-eyed person with a very high position, who told him, “Why are you studying this kind of magecraft which doesn’t suit you? Your talent is much more suited to this, you know?”, and before he realized it, he was surrounded by classmates who were dangerous in terms of both talent and personality while he was still in a daze.
“No way, I want to live a normal and mediocre life. I don’t want to get involved with these people.” Dear Caules-kun thought this while sighing softly as he gave a sidelong glance at the optimistic and thoughtless genius who was making a ruckus in a nearby seat.
…It seems that person will be making an appearance in a different work soon, but don’t mind, don’t mind.

Celenike Icecolle Yggdmillennia [Person's name]
I’m sorry, Mr. Mashin. (TL Note: This is the author of the manga “Fate/school life”. This is most likely referencing how Mashin is known to be a fan of Celenike and apologizing for how she died.)
…One of the Masters of the Black Camp. She is a magus of cursing techniques who curses her enemies to death. She has great skill, but she fails in terms of personality. She also possesses abundant knowledge of the modern era and has even tried to curse people to death on the computer through the electronic network.
In the Icecolle family’s dark arts rituals, it is the one that kills the sacrifice rather than the sacrifices themselves that must fall into a trance state. They always watch and deal with the other person with ice-cold eyes. It is the same as taking a solemn attitude towards the lives of living creatures when cooking meat.
It is the correct way to act when facing those who will become sacrifices—at the very least, the Icecolle family teaches this doctrine.
But still, perhaps they sacrificed too many people. Gradually, the thread of curses binding the Icecolle family became too thick and strong, and the additional factor of them moving their territory caused them to suddenly decline. Though the other members of the Icecolle family noticed Celenike’s distortion, they chose to shut their eyes to her sadistic hobbies due to her rare talent.
That pampering became the underlying cause that led her to prioritize her personal desire in the midst of the Great Holy Grail War and meet a tragic end… Well, she serves as an example that shows how magi who mistake the objective of their training end up like this. Or perhaps the sacrifices that the Icecolle family had killed until then had aimed to balance accounts in this way.
There are two flaws to cursing someone. No matter how well you curse someone to death without exposing your actions—that curse will eventually rain down upon the curser on a whim. Celenike just happened to receive the backlash this time.

Radiant and Brilliant Royal Sword [Noble Phantasm]

Clarent Blood Arthur.
Together, they are Mordred’s Noble Phantasm. It was originally a sword stored in King Arthur’s treasury. But Mordred broke into the treasury when she caused her rebellion. Perhaps being interested in it as the “sword that symbolizes royalty”, she came to favor using it.
It was originally a B rank sword bestowed during the succession of kingship, used to amplify the king’s authority… the king’s royal aura. Concretely, it raises the owner’s physical stats by one rank, and grants and raises the skill “Charisma”. However, since Mordred was never acknowledged as king, the sword itself is lowered by one rank and she cannot acquire any bonuses while wielding it.
However, the ability of “amplification” itself has not been lost, so Mordred drives her excessive hatred into the sword in the form of prana, thereby amplifying it and allowing her to shoot it as an attack.
To make it easy to understand, “Clarent Blood Arthur” is an application of “Prana Burst”, and the red lightning that it manifests are her twisted feelings towards her father that have been amplified by the sword.
In the light novels, her discord with the King of Knights was (one-sidedly) resolved, but she can still shoot it regardless of her feelings towards her father. In that regard, she possesses the innate talent inherited from the blood of the King of Knights.

The Howl of the Wounded Beast [Noble Phantasm]
Crying Warmonger. The continuously active Noble Phantasm of Berserker of Red, Spartacus. It is the type where his legend itself was sublimated and turned into a Noble Phantasm. There is actually a huge difference in how this Noble Phantasm is used depending on whether he is summoned as a Berserker or a Saber. When he is summoned as a Berserker, it turns the wounds he receives from enemies into prana and accumulates it in his body to boost or heal himself.
However, during the Great Holy Grail War, perhaps due to his connection to the present world—his line being complex, the Noble Phantasm’s conversion rate went out of control and turned him into something unbelievable.
Incidentally, if he was summoned as a Saber, it would have stabilized into the more respectable ability of “restoring his vitality and prana when he successfully endures the enemy’s attacks and also invalidating or reflecting back any more of the same attacks thereafter”. Though this would have been threatening enough on its own.
Either way, the longer a battle is prolonged, the more advantageous it is for Spartacus. The only way to beat him is in a short decisive battle.

Darnic Prestone Yggdmillennia [Person's name]
A Master of the Black camp. The one who stands at the top of Yggdmillennia. He has the highest rank of Grand, but this is an unusual occurrence that only happened in the “Apocrypha” world. This is because the number of magi in the “Apo” world is sharply dropping due to so many subspecies Holy Grail Wars having occurred. As a consequence of this, almost all the magi who have survived them have slid up one rank higher than their original rank. Darnic, who is at Pride rank, didn’t let this chance slip away and used his skilled forked-tongue to reach “the Grand rank as an honorary position different from the proper Grand rank in commemoration of his achievements to the Association, even though ability-wise he is not at Grand rank.” What’s with this trend that’s like chilly oil which was popular for a certain time? …It’s only natural, though, since Old man Darnic’s Grand rank isn’t something that a true Grand-ranked magus would ever acknowledge.
Darnic himself wasn’t especially concerned with the honor or fame either. He only sought it out because he simply deemed that possessing the Grand rank would be more advantageous for him when acting independently.
However, that doesn’t make Darnic weak; rather, it’s the exact opposite. Fiore also possesses noticeable talent, but she can’t compare to Darnic in terms of tenacity, talent and experience together as a whole. In a normal Holy Grail War or a battle between magi, Darnic would definitely be the winner. The Master of the Red Camp might be able to beat him if they cooperated together, but even that is an uncertainty.
 He mainly researched human souls and even managed to succeed in fusing with the soul of a Heroic Spirit in the end. Of course, it was an emergency measure, and his true final goal with it was to raise the accuracy and precision as much as possible and create a “magus who possesses the power of a Heroic Spirit while maintaining the mind of Darnic”.
Also, he is first-class as a magus, but he is first-class as a politician as well. There is an American term used to mock lawyers called Ambulance Chasers, those who follow ambulances and try to get victims to make a lawsuit, but Yggdmillennia was similar to that as well. Apparently, Darnic immediately brought magi who had been crushed in the subspecies Holy Grail wars into his faction and steadily increased the clan’s power and influence behind closed doors.
He isn’t the type of person to extend great effort by choice, but you can glimpse his extraordinary vindictiveness in the way he worked to bring about his revenge for being belittled over the course of many decades. He also feels some slight sympathy for his clan as the head of Yggdmillennia, so the “tenacity of magi who have been driven away to the far corners of the world” may have accumulated within Darnic as a result.
If he never managed to get a hold of the Holy Grail and had simply lived as an ordinary magus, the personality of “Darnic Prestone” would have completely diluted away after living for two hundred years, until only a steel-like magus with the name “Yggdmillennia” was left.
…Even if that happened, Darnic wouldn’t have hesitated in following that path as long as he was able to get closer to the Root as a result. However, would the “personality of Darnic who was diluted away by a massive quantity of souls” have been alive or dead at that point, and would Darnic have been happy even if he managed to reach the Root after all that? That is something he never knew.
Incidentally, he apparently went through a quite a fierce battle against old man Matou during the Third Holy Grail War.

Dragon Revelation Command Spells [Others]
Dead Count Shapeshifter. The unique Command Spells engraved on Sieg. They can also be used as normal Command Spells, but there was absolutely no need for Sieg to force Astolfo to do anything with a Command Spell, so he used them all to turn himself into Siegfried. To explain it simply, they basically let Sieg summon Siegfried every time he uses one. The catalyst is Siegfried’s living heart. However, while Siegfried’s body could withstand the dragon blood within it, Sieg’s body can’t. That is reason that the spots on Sieg’s hand where the Command Spells disappeared from turned black. Even after he used them all up, power Sieg obtained from Frankenstein’s “Blasted Tree: Lightning Branch of Crucifixion” managed to barely maintain his human form, but that too was used up when Sieg used this Noble Phantasm at the end.

Spear-tip of the Star Traversing the Skies [Noble Phantasm]
Diatrekhōn Astēr Lonkhē. The Noble Phantasm of Rider of Red, Achilles. To describe it in a single phrase, it is a spear for fighting one-on-one. It creates an arena cut off from all of the surrounding environment and time, which isn’t released until one of the combatants is defeated. In terms of magical theory, it is virtually the same as “Aestus Domus Aurea: Golden Theater of the Flamboyant” that Red Saber-san from “Fate/EXTRA” creates.
It can be called the ultimate contest of pure strength and skill that negates even “flukes” caused by things like divine blessings or luck. Achilles used this when he fought Hector. Furthermore, while he fought barehanded in his fight against Chiron, nothing prevents either combatant from using weapons in this arena.
Also, since Achilles killed the Amazoness Queen Penthesilea with this spear, he cannot use it against women. In the first place, this spear can only be used against “those who Achilles wants to fight one-on-one against”. In other words, if Achilles doesn’t “wish to fight them” and the opponent doesn’t have enough courage and skill to respond to his challenge either, Achilles won’t use this spear. Furthermore, even if Achilles himself wants to fight them, he won’t try to forcefully bring his opponents into the one-on-one arena if they don’t want to. It is a Noble Phantasm with a narrow range of enemies it can be used against.
Also, if Achilles should be summoned as a Lancer, it will gain an additional ability separate from the arena creation ability; it is a power that resembles “Gáe Buidhe: Yellow Rose of Mortality”, which “makes healing impossible when one is wounded by this spear”. He doesn’t have his chariot in the Lancer class, but he can wield this spear with divine speed while dashing around the battlefield with equal swiftness, so he is an unmanageable threat in either class.

Double Summon [Skill]
Double Summon. The skill possessed by Assassin of Red, Semiramis. It is an underhanded skill that is only invoked when certain conditions are met during the summoning, like a “command input on the title screen”.
Of course, this kind of skill has some restrictions, with the three Knight classes (Saber, Archer and Lancer) and some of the extra classes (like Ruler, Shielder and Avenger) incapable of being applied to the Double Summon skill. In other words, only a combination of the Berserker, Caster, Assassin or Rider classes is possible. However, though rare, a modern day extra class like Gunner can apparently be combined with another class through this skill.

Dragon Tooth Soldiers [Others]
An army of small-fry who fight using pure numbers. Originally, making warriors using dragon teeth is a form of magecraft that comes from Greece, but a magus of Semiramis’ level is able to use it of her region of origin or personal style of magecraft. This time, they were used as rank-and-file soldiers to defend the Hanging Gardens, with even flying types appearing, but sadly, they are still small-fry… As such, they were easily blown apart with one blow of Astolfo’s magic flute.

Einzbern [Others]
One of the Three Families that established the Fuyuki Holy Grail War. The family that lies at the center of events in “Fate/stay night” and “Fate/Zero” (Writer: Urobuchi Gen).
In “Apocrypha”, they didn’t become discouraged by the fact that the Greater Grail was stolen in the Third Holy Grail War… rather, they don’t seem to have that kind of mentality in the first place (if they gave up, it would only be when even their greatest creation, Illyasviel, would fail to attain the Third Sorcery), and they are doing everything they can with the belief that they might be able to reproduce that miracle. Accordingly, they have come to reluctantly have relationships with other magi despite their insular and unsociable nature, and the Musik family took advantage of their confused state of affairs in order to receive a portion of their homunculi craft. However, what the Einzberns taught was merely the equivalent of giving a toy to a child, so it wasn’t much of a problem for them.
The Musik family concealed the fact that they were part of the Yggdmillennia clan, but naturally the Einzberns know about it. However, the Greater Grail was formed by taking apart the only successful Justeaze-model homunculus, so the Einzbern agreed to cooperate with them in case they should manage to activate one.

Enchant [Skill]
A skill belonging to Caster of Red, Shakespeare. It could also be called “Literary Masterpiece Endowment”. It consists of making a passionate poem that begins with the following preface: “I will now explain this person’s amazingness in minute detail, so please listen without thinking it tedious, everyone.” It can raise the sharpness of a blade by saying “it can cut all things” and increase the sturdiness of the blade by saying “it can receive all attacks”, but either way, it requires literary expression great enough to move the readers in order for it to take effect.
For writers who have left their names in history, there is a good chance that they will possess such a skill or Noble Phantasm.
For Shakespeare with his extraordinary fame, he can produce even Noble Phantasms of C~E rank. For making an E rank Noble Phantasm, it would be at the level of turning a pebble lying anywhere on the road into a Noble Phantasm. For D rank, it would be a mass-producible manufactured item like a modern weapon. To reach C rank, it needs to be weapon with sufficient spiritual status for a literary master like him to express.
In this war, he used Enchant on “Miike Tenta Mitsuyo”, a famous sword said to have been the favorite blade of a certain one-eyed great swordsman. Naturally, it is C rank.

When the Curtain Rises, the Applause Shall Be As Ten Thousand Thunders [Noble Phantasm]
First Folio. The theater Noble Phantasm of Caster of Red, Shakespeare. In the initial storyboarding, it had the power to rewind time, but since that didn’t have much meaning in terms of the story’s development, the idea was discarded. (The fact that a sorcerer might make an appearance in a work after the prototype “Fate/Apocrypha” also played a big part in the decision.) Instead, what emerged was a graded-up version of “The Globe: Seat of the King”.
It is a Noble Phantasm that doesn’t deal any physical damage, but it is the worst possible thing to face for certain Heroic Spirits. There basically aren’t any heroes who don’t have some kind of guilty conscience. Shakespeare can expose the traumas that everyone holds inside themselves, and by ridiculing or censuring them he can completely break their hearts.
The probability of being drowned and trapped within this Noble Phantasm is greater the more someone is confident of their physical strength. The only ones who can overcome this Noble Phantasm are those who can declare that they have not a single dirty stain on their lives. There are very few who can believe in something and have no regrets at all. If it’s someone who can directly confront the trauma they hold, they might be able to somehow manage to overturn Shakespeare’s piercing words, though—
When a Servant has had their heart broken by this Noble Phantasm, they receive the bad status of “absentmindedness”. In this state, they are completely defenseless, and as long as they don’t have a Noble Phantasm which automatically responds to malice, they can’t deal with any attack.
This Noble Phantasm originates from the “first” book that was published as a collection of Shakespeare’s plays after his death. Therefore, Shakespeare himself did not directly participate in making it.

Feend vor Sembren [Person's name]
A former Red Master. An elite magus sent by the Association of Magi—the Clock Tower. He possesses skill worthy of being chosen to participate in the grand stage of the Great Holy Grail War, but he was put into a trance after drinking the tea that was offered to him. Naturally, he was on his guard and had defensive spells deployed, but it was all rendered meaningless by poison compounded by a Servant.
Perhaps because he ended up shamefully retiring before he even got to fight, the Sembren family gradually began to fall into ruin after this. His only son is currently struggling hard and making strenuous efforts in a certain classroom, though…

Fiore Forvedge Yggdmillennia [Person's name]
A Master of the Black Camp. The current head of the Forvedge family. Due to the Magic Circuits in both her legs being deformed, she lost the ability to walk. Her latent skill as a magus luckily exceeds Darnic, and she would definitely rise from Frame (youngest child) to Cause (open rank) once she grows up. And her outstanding talent is so great that she was expected to rise even further.
However, she herself doesn’t know anything besides magecraft and is truly a researcher-type magus. She’s so ignorant of the rest of the world that she seriously asked in confusion, “The Net? You mean some kind of netting?” However, by contrast, she has great curiosity and badgered Caules over his cell phone and got him to buy one for her too.
Her skill as a magus is undoubtedly first rate, but because she was too exceptional, she never confronted the actual work of a magus at all. An obvious example is her memories of that stray dog. Fiore never forget her memory of it and continued to face it without ever shelving it away. She understood that it was something absolutely unneeded to a magus (especially for a magus in the Spiritual Evocation department), but she wasn’t able to throw it away, a sentiment that is far too much like that of a proper and decent human being.
She treats Caules as a cute little brother and in fact half-depends on him—but she isn’t self-aware of this at all and tries to act like a dependable older sister. Caules never boorishly points this out, which makes her all the more delightedly absorbed in being an older sister.
She uses Spiritual Evocation Magecraft, but she doesn’t communicate or have herself possessed by spirits directly, instead favoring Mystic Codes made of mechanical parts which have several animal spirits inserted into them.
After giving up the path of a magus in the novels, she tackles the struggle of rehabilitation for her legs. After that, her life will likely be quite stimulating for a girl who knew nothing but magecraft until then. Of course, her continued regret over giving up magecraft will also remain for her whole life, though.

Fuyuki [Place name]
A certain provincial city. In these novels, the Holy Grail War doesn’t occur there, of course, and as a result, the mayor of Fuyuki, Himuro-san, doesn’t get a pained stomach from that Great Fire Disaster.
And of course, that red-haired boy is living there with his original surname unchanged, but still having a honest and upright personality (as shown in his appearance in “Capsule Servant”), and likely going through days with a love comedy-like tone, along with a twin-tail magic-fist user and her cheerful little sister who laughs like a high-class young lady.

Gilles de Rais [Person's name]
The man who went on a rampage as a character in “Fate/Zero”, and whose unexpected reappearance shocked everyone, even myself. As everyone already knows, he is the man known as Blue Beard, Gilles de Rais.
In this work, he appears as a Servant… or rather, as a guest character to break Ruler’s heart.
However, since Shakespeare summoned the true Gilles, he changed sides after being persuaded by Ruler. Though Gilles de Rais is someone suited for breaking Ruler’s heart, he is the least suitable person to turn into Ruler’s enemy. Shakespeare knew that risk and yet still enthusiastically wrote the script that way “because it seemed interesting” to him. This is what you would call reaping what you sow.

Golem [Others]
Artificial soldiers made of earth, stone or wood, which Avicebron manufactures. The concept of golems traces back to Ancient Israel, and the basics of their manufacture are said to have arisen sometime between the 2nd to 9th centuries. However, if you trace it back further, golems originate from a passage in Genesis that says “The Lord molded man out of the dust of the ground and breathed life into him through his nostrils”.
In other words, golems were originally an attempt to make “humans”. Therefore, their quality is considered higher the closer they are to being human. However, that is only the ideal golem in Kabbalist thinking, and regular magi might simply devote themselves on “how to make a strong golem”.
Avicebron’s magecraft is fundamentally specialized solely for the sake of making golems, and his techniques have already reached a level that modern magi cannot catch up to, letting him spend his whole life playing around while living off just the sales from his golems. It’s only natural that Roche idolizes him.
To make something close to human is the concept of Avicebron’s golems, but he’s willing to make completely different kinds of golems to amuse himself as well. The steel horse he made to act as Vlad III’s steed was a simple yet prided product of his, and even just the gems used for its eyes were worth hundreds of millions.
 After the war, some of his golems actually managed to just barely survive, and though most of them were sold off, a few golems went to a new land with the homunculi.

Royal Crown, the Light of Wisdom [Noble Phantasm]
Golem Keter Malkuth. The Noble Phantasm of Caster of Black, Avicebron. It is not something that he created while he was alive; rather, it is his unfulfilled dream that was turned into a Noble Phantasm. It is an imitation of the “first human Adam”, a Reality Marble which has been given life of its own.
Just by stepping on the ground, it is endlessly supplied with prana, and at the same time it encroaches on the surrounding land and turns it into “Eden”.
Its full height was fifteen meters at the time of its birth, but this is only the measurement of “when it was born”. As the span of Eden expands, the giant’s size will change and multiple, until it finally exceeds a thousand meters. It is said that “a fifteen-meter-sized giant could be easily defeated by even a Servant with average C rank stats, but as expected, one at the size of a thousand meters would be impossible to kill without a group of first-rate Servants. And, incidentally, the stomachs of the people tasked with covering up it all up would die.
The reason Jeanne and the others were so frantic against the giant when it was still fifteen meters tall is because they could tell that the speed of its growth was extraordinary, and if their response had been even a bit slower, the giant would have grown to thirty meters and displayed even harsher resistance.

Gordes Musik Yggdmillennia [Person's name]
One of the Masters of the Black camp. He is a problematic middle-aged man who bears the nicknames King of Incompetents and King of Waster Command Spells. The magecraft he uses is a type of alchemy, and at one time his family even barely managed to reach a level where he could see the backs of the Einzberns, but they quickly fell into ruin and were absorbed into Yggdmillennia.
His abilities and talent aren’t low at all… though they aren’t amazingly high either. His rank is half-hearted, above Caules and Sagara Hyouma yet incapable of matching Darnic and Fiore. On the other hand, his pride as a magus is deeper than the sea and higher than the mountains.
He is the type that assumes a desktop theory is equal to reality. He’s like an old man who jeers “What terrible directions” while watching a baseball game.
However, having his Servant, who should have obeyed him, not only punching him but even going against his orders seems to have been quite a huge shock for him (after all, even though his familiar had fallen into ruin, they were still considered a powerful family within Yggdmillennia and almost no one ever defied him), and he also withdrew from the war without doing practically anything worthy of being a Master, so he continuously got drunk from the second volume on.
However, perhaps having despaired at having reached rock bottom or having become honest after having his pride smashed to pieces, he unexpectedly displays conspicuous and energetic efforts afterwards.
To be frank, he was a character who was supposed to have died from Siegfried’s punch in the first volume’s plot. I made him have a hand in quite few inhuman deeds, but due to portraying him as incompetent too much, his humorous characterization was strengthened and it actually became hard to kill him instead.
Since he survived, even though there was no reason to portray him, for some reason he regained his value in the third and fourth volumes, and in the end somehow became one of the characters who came back home alive.
Well, he’s surrounded by homunculi who witnessed him fall to rock bottom once, so if he turns back towards his family and magecraft without fearing shame, his family might actually make a comeback.
For the sake of that as well, he first intends to train his son who he raised to be just like him. “You seem to think you’re incredibly cool, but you’re actually just like me, so if anything, you’re like that…” “Really…?” “Really…”

Great Holy Grail War [Others]
To describe it in a single phrase, it is a distorted, exceptional version of the Fuyuki-style Holy Grail War. In the case where the battle between seven Servants doesn’t start for an overly long period of time, the Holy Grail will make preparations to summon seven new Servants. However, that is an action that once again sucks up the Grail’s stored prana that it gradually amassed over sixty years from the ley lines, and if done improperly, the ley lines will become completely dried up forever.
Due to the work of the only magus who managed to escape from Vlad III’s hands, the Greater Grail activated the Great Holy Grail War system and, though normally it would have made the Holy Grail War enter a standby waiting period, it was instead made to immediately recognize the summoning of seven additional Servants to fight in a great war.
However, the Great Holy Grail War was within the scope of Darnic’s predictions. Because even if he formed a new organization using the Greater Grail as a symbol, the Association of Magi would definitely seek to obstruct it. As such, he judged that it would be best if they had a showdown against the Association of Magi once with their full power—that is, their Servants. Darnic was also farsighted enough to include increasing reactionary forces within the Association by thoroughly beating them here and bringing them into his own faction.
If his plans had all gone well, the Association’s forces would have been diminished and brought about an era similar to the turbulent Sengoku Era in Japan.
…Well, it all came to nothing due to Shirou-san and Rider of Black, though.

Greater Grail [Others]
The Greater Holy Grail created by the Three Families of Fuyuki. It is a giant altar created using the woman known as the Saint of Winter, Justeaze Lizrich von Einzbern, as the core. It was stolen by Darnic in the Third Holy Grail War. After conducting all sorts of experiments on it, he established it in Trifas, in the country of Romania… I say this without hesitation, but this theft has already transformed beyond being a miracle and turned into a form of idle gossip to the magi who know just what kind of object the Greater Grail is. It’s true that Darnic managed to slip away with it amidst the confusion of the war, but you have to wonder whether Darnic had a few dozen screws loose in his head at the time to consider transporting it from Japan to Romania without letting anyone realize it.

Aerial Garden of Vanity [Noble Phantasm]
Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The strongest and largest-scale Noble Phantasm that Assassin of Red proudly owns. Rather than being Anti-World, perhaps it would be more accurate to call it a giant Boundary Field. Assassin? The Servant that specializes in hiding and killing Masters? This is a dumbfounding Noble Phantasm that throws away such common knowledge to the other side of the horizon.
It was already referenced in the novels, but Semiramis didn’t actually create the Hanging Gardens. However, this “falsehood” that was included into Semiramis’ legend at some point over time eventually became true.
However, since it brings something false into the real world, it has to use real materials for its construction. If this were the true Hanging Gardens, it would be able to activate—to manifest just by releasing its true name like a normal Noble Phantasm, though.
It basically requires enough money to buy a small country in order to obtain all the necessary materials. Rather, the more money used in its construction, the more its Mystery deepens and the Garden is strengthened, “so, if it’s for the sake of obtaining the Holy Grail, you should have the resolve to become bankrupt, my Master”—is Semiramis-sama’s way of putting it.
In a normal Holy Grail War, this Noble Phantasm wouldn’t be used in the first place. Though there’s also the material cost, the real problem is the three-days-three-nights ritual for it. This is a necessary ritual in order to hammer in the nails of “truth” into this falsehood, this three-days-three-nights duration has no special allegorical significance to it; Semiramis’ chant simply requires seventy-two hours to complete. The bigger the Gardens are made, the more nails are needed to be driven into it all over.
Therefore, in a normal Holy Grail War, as long as Semiramis doesn’t secure an excellently concealed location beforehand, the Hanging Gardens are useless as a Noble Phantasm. And most of all, Semiramis won’t willingly try to make the Hanging Gardens unless her Master is interesting enough.

Hector [Person's name]
The greatest rival of Rider of Red, Achilles, during his lifetime. He was the strongest hero on the side of Troy during the Trojan War. Also, his younger brother Paris is the perpetrator who caused the Trojan War to happen.
He is the exact opposite of Achilles as a hero, a bearded middle-age man who likes to play the fool. He refers to himself as “mister” (old man) in his speech, and always fights on the battlefield with an easygoing attitude.
He’s ruthless, but not cruel; skilled, yet not gifted. He faced other famous heroes besides Achilles, without retreating a single step… or not; rather, he would often retreat two or three steps and then strike the enemy when their guard’s down, before running away again, and just when they think he’s far away, he throws mud at them; a-anyway, he prided himself at being the strongest when it comes to siege battles.
He uses dual long-sword/throwing spear called Durindana, and by throwing it he managed to pierce through six of the barriers of “Rho Aias: Seven Rings that Cover the Fiery Heavens”, which boasts the greatest rank of toughness against projectiles.
In order to settle things once and for all with him, Achilles challenged him to a sink-or-swim duel, where he temporarily gave up his immortality. Unable to resist the temptation of getting the chance to take Achilles’ life, Hector accepted the one-on-one duel and was defeated by a paper-thin difference in skill.
To Achilles, Hector is one of the top three people he never wants to fight again, whether it is before or after his death. The remaining two are Penthesilea and Chiron.

Otherworldly Phantom Horse [Noble Phantasm]
Hippogriff. The third cheat Noble Phantasm used by Rider of Black, Astolfo. There are cases when a Griffin, a Monstrous Beast, reproduces with a mare, which would normally be its food. What’s born as a result from this is the Monstrous Beast known as a Hippogriff, which has the upper body of an eagle and the lower body of a horse.
However, it is an impossible creature which normally should not exist. This is because it should be impossible for a child to be born between a Griffon and a horse, which are predator and prey. The Hippogriff existed only as a hypothetical and philosophical symbol. A Hipppogriff appears in the story of “Orlando Furioso” (The Frenzy of Roland), where Astolfo and his comrades also appear. This story includes the theme of “The Hippogriff makes an appearance here, so no matter how strange it may seem, there is nothing that is truly impossible”. In “Orlando Furioso”, Astolfo even goes to the moon in order to save Roland.
The Hippogriff that Astolfo rides is a “Phantasmal Beast” in the true sense, since its very existence is uncertain. As a result, when it is released as a Noble Phantasm, the Hippogriff can jump over to a different dimension, though only for an instant.
That dimension is the home of the Phantasmal Species, where only beings that are purely non-physical souls can go to. It is the Reverse Side of the World, which the Hippogriff, when summoned as a Noble Phantasm, can never reach even if it can temporarily glimpse it.

Homunculus [Others]
An artificial life-form made with alchemy. The ones that Yggdmillennia created as part of their army and as sources of prana supply were made using the techniques of the Einzberns, one of the Three Families who held the ritual of the Holy Grail War in Fuyuki. Einzbern homunculi are made using Magic Circuits as their foundation; to put it another way, they are like deteriorated spirits which were spontaneously produced. As a result, they are extremely useful as prana supply batteries.
However, unlike those made by the Einzberns, which are like works of art, the ones made by Yggdmillennia are a mass-produced product made in large numbers. They are inconsistent in their respective quality, but on the other hand this aspect expresses itself in the homunculi who have some slight individuality. Sieg was a prana supply homunculus and at first couldn’t even walk properly. Prana supply homunculi were made with the concept that they just need to produce prana, so many of them very defective as living beings, such as not being able to breathe from the time they were born.
The one put in charge of making them was the most prominent alchemist within Yggdmillennia, Gordes Musik Yggdmillennia… He’s no good at fighting, but he’s actually quite capable when it comes to alchemy.

Hydra [Monstrous Beast]
Among Heracles’ Twelve Labors, the monster he exterminated at Lake Lerna was the Hydra, a giant swamp snake said to possess either nine or a hundred heads.
Possessing both a deadly poison said to instantly kill all humans it touches and an abnormally high regeneration capable of immediately regenerating two new heads every time one is cut off, the Hydra is a Monstrous Beast with top class fame even among the other Twelve Labors. Shishigou Kairi accepted a young-born Hydra as prepayment and processed it. At first, he processed it into a knife as a final weapon that could kill even a Servant, but later he used it to make an antidote serum out of wariness towards Semiramis.
Though Mordred blocked herself out from it with her armor, it still wasn’t enough to completely block the air itself which was contaminated with the poison. The rank of the Hydra’s poison is undoubtedly top A rank. It might even reach A+ rank against heroes of Greek myth.

Hyouma Sagara [Person's name]
A Master of the Black camp. He was in charge of Assassin. He had already died before the main story in the volumes had begun. Originally, he was a magus that appeared in the pre-story of “Fate/Apocrypha” recounting the story of Jack the Ripper and her Master. He tried to sacrifice Rikudou Reika in order to summon Jack, but he was betrayed by his Servant immediately after she was summoned and experienced the misery of being slaughtered as a Master.
Just like Atrum who appeared in the animated version of “Fate/stay night UBW”, he used magecraft that exchanges living sacrifices as compensation for his spells. In Sagara Hyouma’s case, he utilized a hybrid of Japanese and Western cursing techniques and made fortune by establishing security for buildings and protection for people in exchange for sacrificing human lives. His Western cursing techniques consists of techniques he obtained from the Icecolle family that the Black Master Celenike is a part of since their disciplines intersect. The way he combined the techniques of a completely different family into his magecraft demonstrates how he is a typical example of an Yggdmillennia magus in a certain sense.
He wouldn’t have had any problem summoning Hassan as Assassin, but he judged that doing so would be disadvantageous under the current conditions where a certain amount of countermeasures against all nineteen different Hassans have been created over the many repetitions of subspecies Holy Grail Wars. Based on the shallowness of his own history as well, he tried to secure victory with a modern Heroic Spirit. However, that turned out to be a fatal mistake, though he naturally could never have imagined that the woman he had approached merely to use as a sacrifice was in fact a far greater monster than him.
…This is a digression, but Sagara Hyouma is most famous for the misprint regarding him in Volume 2.
 No, I really wonder how I overlooked that. I’ll definitely correct it in the second edition.

Jean Rum [Person's name]
One of the people whose should have been a Master of the Red Camp. Female. Known as the Gale Wheel, she uses chakrams and possesses Wind-affinity magecraft just as her title implies. You really are exactly what you seem like, aren’t you? She’s a bibliomaniac, and according to rumor she searched for the library of Ivan the Thunder Emperor.
Her skill is definitely first-rate, but regretfully, she was easily subdued by Semiramis’ poison. The relatives of the Red Masters, excluding Shishigou and Shirou, make a stealthy appearance in “Fate/strange Fake” (Author: Ryohgo Narita, from Dengeki Bunko).
Well, things ended in massive failure for them in various ways, so even after being freed their positions have become precarious.

Kairi Sisigou [Person's name]
One of the Masters of the Red Camp. However, he chose to act independently with his Servant without joining Shirou Kotomine’s group. His Servant is Saber of Red, Mordred. His fiendish appearance is just like that of an American outlaw. He isn’t a magus, but rather a magecraft user. Though he can’t match magi in terms of knowledge, he ranks equally in terms of battle experience with Darnic who has survived for a hundred years.
He normally wanders from battlefield to battlefield recovering the corpses of magi and plundering their Magic Crests. Fundamentally, he intentionally acts so as not to increase the number of casualties. This is because causalities are always appearing somewhere in the world every day and night even without him doing anything.
He habitually uses a sawed-off (meaning with a shortened barrel) shotgun as a Mystic Code, but he only uses it as medium for the Gandr spell and doesn’t use it in its original purpose as a gun. Also, he fundamentally uses things like hand grenades made out of hearts, animal eyeballs and monkey hands as part of his necromancy, so the majority of his Mystic Codes are in extreme bad taste.
He chose to participate in the Great Holy Grail War after receiving a request from the Association of Magi. Originally, he had planned to fight alongside the other Red Servants, but he chose to take independent action due to not being able to trust Shirou Kotomine and his Servant Semiramis. He and Saber engaged in skirmishes with the Black Servants and won against Berserker of Black, but then they noticed the scheme of the Red Master Shirou Kotomine and decided to put the war on hold.
However, they still fought to obtain the Holy Grail right till the very end, but they dropped out of the Great Holy Grail War when Mordred and Semiramis dealt mutually fatal strikes against each other. The actions that Shishigou took to save Mordred also backfired on him and caused him to die.
The sole thing decided about the two of them from the initial plotting stages was that they would “rampage around as they like without regretting anything and fight and fight until they die while smiling” as “this story’s Bonnie and Clyde”. Well, Bonnie and Clyde didn’t die while smiling, though.
In the past, Shishigou’s talent as a magus was first-rate, but is now second-rate. As a magecraft user, he is first-rate. As a Master, well, I suppose he gets a passing mark for having well managed Mo-san, who is quite tricky and difficult to deal with, without once antagonizing her.
He seems to have poured a lot of affection towards his stepdaughter whose name was never revealed in the story, and if you search the back pockets of his jacket, you can fight an old photo of the two of them together there. However, his appearance became fiendish after he began going out to battlefields, so his face in the photo is very much that of a serious scholar.
If Mordred ever saw that photo, she would first laugh for a while, but then she would understand the unpleasant truth about it and turn silent. In other words, she would realize his unbelievable despair of having chosen a wound-filled life that made the man into that photo turn into the person in front of her.
The wish that Shishigou had for the Holy Grail was actually something truly acute. Somewhere in his heart, he thought that the wish that he publicly spoke of wasn’t true, but that his real wish was simply to undo the death of his stepdaughter.
The moment he realized and accepted that, everything about Shishigou’s life as a magus reached its end.
Furthermore, in the initial plot, Shishigou Kairi was descended from the family that Darnic chased out. However, it created a contradiction chronologically and the plot wasn’t that entwined with Yggdmillennia in the first place, so it was easily discarded.

The Lord of Execution [Noble Phantasm]
Kazikli Bey. Lancer of Black’s Noble Phantasm. It can unleash a maximum of twenty thousand stakes in the territory he has set up with his skill “Demonic Defender of the State”. It can be used to attack, defend or regulate the movements of the enemy. Due to the being set up in Romania, the territory created by “Demonic Defender of the State” here is the largest of any Holy Grail War. Not only does the damage from the stakes pile up, they attack one after another with overwhelming numbers reaching twenty thousand, living up to Vlad III’s nickname “Lord of Impalement”.
Though the power of each individual stake is low, they deal additional continuous damage through “penetration” for some time after even one of them is stabbed into the enemy. Furthermore, if his spear hits the enemy even once, it will cause stakes to be created from within the enemy’s body and pierce them from inside out. When this happens, nothing can be done, and the enemy will end up suffering in excruciating pain until they die.
…Well, the fact that there was an unbelievable Servant who would circulate fire through his own body in order to incinerate the stakes within him was probably a miscalculation for Vlad.

King of Knights [Title]
Her true name is Arturia Pendragon, otherwise known as King Arthur. The billboard character of “Fate/stay night”, the original Saber-san who boasts the highest popularity no matter how many times the Saber archetype has been ridiculed, and a cold father. There is no need to give an explanation on her at his point; rather, I think those who would need an explanation wouldn’t be reading this Material book, but what can I say?
Even though she is a character that definitely has to appear in the flashback of Mordred’s past, I was super tense just showing her backside in one of the third volume’s illustrations.

Kirei Kotomine [Person's name]
Without needing to be introduced, he is the man who appears as the villain in “Fate/stay night” and “Fate/Zero” (though his mentality is quite complex). He doesn’t appear at all in these novels, but hints of his existence are shown here and there, so he has an entry here.
Kotomine Kirei is living as an extremely respectable priest in Fuyuki even now. The Fourth Holy Grail War didn’t occur here, so he didn’t shift his focus to his own nature. It might be a different story if he participated in one of the subspecies Holy Grail Wars, but he’ll never have such a chance as long as he is in Fuyuki.
In other words, he is still in anguish over the meaning and karma of his existence even now.
He heard about who his older brother Shirou is from his father Risei, but they have rarely interacted with each other. This is not done on Kirei’s part, but rather because Shirou consciously avoids him.
This is because Shirou noticed the “distortion” within his stepbrother Kirei. Of course, he would very much like to free Kirei from his anguish, but no matter how he thought about it, it wouldn’t end well… Additionally, if the one-in-a-million chance occurred where an event caused him to affirm his own distortion, Shirou was greatly worried that the first person Kirei would target would be him.
It would be like pouring gasoline on a volcano that’s on the verge of erupting even now. Thus, Shirou kept his distance from Kirei as much as possible from the beginning to end of their relationship.

Knights of the Round Table [Organization]
The general term for the knights who left their names in King Arthur’s legend. They are called the Knight of the Round Table because they gathered around a round table along with King Arthur. The knights sitting around the table were all regarded as equal to one another, including the King himself, and they were admired throughout the country. Though the number of them varies according to each story, the standard pattern of thirteen knights is accepted in “Fate/stay night”.
In the “Apocrypha” world, the separate splinters from the Round Table serve as summoning catalysts for Heroic Spirits. From among eleven of the knights (with King Arthur and Galahad excluded), the one most compatible to the Master is summoned through it. Like an S-rare definite ticket. Whether it be someone like Lancelot, Gawain, Tristan or Percival, no matter who comes, you truly get the cream of the crop. During these current times where subspecies Holy Grail Wars are popular, they appear in the market at high prices. Naturally, there are many frauds and swindlers. It’d be nice if a certain oil magnate got swindled.

Magic Flute That Calls Panic [Noble Phantasm]
La Black Luna. The Noble Phantasm of Rider of Black, Astolfo. Among his abundant Noble Phantasms, it is the only average one that isn’t very cheat-like. It’s an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm, but its power isn’t that great, and while it’s effective against small-fry enemies such as Dragon Tooth Warriors, it’s a bit unreliable against other Servants.
However, just as the name magic flute implies, the true fearsomeness of this Noble Phantasm is the chaos and confusion caused by the shock of its overblown sound. If someone skilled with the flute blows this flute (though it’s much bigger than a normal one), it’s capable of even taking away all hearing from the target. Their ability to fight won’t necessarily be stopped just by cutting off one of their five senses or by being sent into disorder, but even so, lacking the ability to hear would disadvantage a Servant, at least a little.
It wouldn’t be much of a handicap for highly experienced Servants, but during clashes between first-rate Servants, there are times where the slight opening it creates can decide the battle.
In that sense, it truly is an auxiliary Noble Phantasm.

The Crimson Holy Virgin [Noble Phantasm]
La Pucelle. The suicide-type Noble Phantasm used by Ruler. It is a Conceptual Weapon that crystalizes one’s mental landscape. It uses the Sword of St-Catherine, which Ruler never swung once in her lifetime, as its catalyst, and manifests the flames which once burned her to death. By using this Noble Phantasm, Ruler loses her own life. But in exchange for her life, she can annihilate anything in existence.
Its designated rank of C refers only to its pre-activated state while the sword is still sheathed. The EX rank after activating is because its pure destructive power cannot be calculated. These flames only destroy that which she thinks must be destroyed. In other words, this Noble Phantasm cannot be used against simply a strong enemy or out of emotions like hate.
These flames exist in order to save something, and in the novels she decided to use this Noble Phantasm out of her sense of duty to save the future of humanity.

Laeticia [Person's name]
The French girl who Ruler chose as her possession vessel. She’s a decent and honest person who has no Magic Circuits, but her religious piety alone surpasses that of others. Though she has lived an extremely normal life, she loaned her body upon Jeanne d’Arc’s request. Her facial features and style is only partly similar to Ruler’s. Due the effects of the possession, her body was somewhat changed to match Ruler’s. After Ruler left her body, she returned to normal.
She served as the witness to Ruler and Sieg’s relationship, and she was, in a certain sense, the final stronghold for Jeanne, a sheep that allowed Jeanne not to notice her own feelings of love.
She is an ordinary person who got dragged into the Great Holy Grail War, but emotionally it was like watching a movie inside a dream for her, and after it ended her memories of it wore away in the blink of an eye. Even so, she doesn’t make vague prayers anymore, as she found a direction for her prayers in the form of wishing that “those two may find happiness together”, and she prays believing in such small miracles every day.

Lancer of “Black” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp and the man who leads them. His true name is Vlad III, the protector of Romania, but his other name of “Dracula” is more overwhelmingly famous in the rest of the world outside of Romania. Due to Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula”, he, who was formerly a local hero of Romania, instantly rose in fame worldwide as the classic example of vampires.
…Originally, Dracula meant “Son of the Dragon” and was far removed from a vampire. The reason why he became the classic example of vampires is due to none other than the fact that Vlad III’s deeds were too drenched in blood.
His overwhelming cruelty in skewering twenty thousand Turk soldiers caused Mehmet II, who vanquished the northern Roma Empire, to say “I fear no human. But the devil alone is a different matter”. In posterity, several of the episodes in his life were pointed out to be fabrications in order to pin crimes on him, but even so, his cruelty was so great it was forever carved into history.
And on the other hand, his heroic title as the “Shield of Christianity” who protected Romania from the hands of Mehmet II has been re-acknowledged.
Outside of the light novels, he also appears in “Fate/EXTRA”. This version of him is a fanatic knight whose appearance, weapons and words are different from the one in these novels, with his aspect as a man who loves his wife emphasized.
In the light novels, he was summoned with his aspect as a monarch emphasized. The fact that he was summoned in his homeland of Romania greatly contributes to this. Thanks to his fame bonus, his parameter ranks are higher compared to when he is summoned in other countries. In addition, he manifested as a Servant with extraordinary power due to his skill “Demonic Defender of the State”.
But even with that, he was gradually cornered by the collective attacks of the Red camp and stepped into a place where he couldn’t receive the benefits of his fame in order to retrieve the stolen Greater Grail.
Just as he was weakened and prepared to die, his Master Darnic appeared before him. He calmly made Vlad choose the most repugnant choice that Vlad wanted to avoid.
Though he is more terrifying than anyone else when enraged, he is fundamentally a military man of integrity who loves his country. Though the topic of vampires is no good with him, he could be called a Servant who is extremely easy to fight alongside if you exclude that point.
His misfortune laid in the fact that the cornerstone of their group, Saber of Black, disappeared before he could fight and, most of all, that his Master was an archetypal magus.
…Even so. His form as he led his troops and tried to protect his country and the Holy Grail was truly noble.
Furthermore, the other compatible class that he is capable of being summoned as is Berserker. In this case, perhaps due to the effects of Mad Enhancement, he would easily accept the fact that he is a vampire and fight as a monster instead of a king. His weapons are the stakes he shoots out from his body.

Lancer of “Red” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Red camp. One of the great heroes that appears in the Ancient Indian epic poem, the “Mahabharata”. His true name is Karna. Since details about him have already been revealed in “Fate/EXTRA CCC” and the material book “Fate/EXTRA material”, I will only write about Karna as concerned with his appearance in “Apocrypha”.
In the Great Holy Grail War, Karna is the Heroic Spirit who didn’t acknowledge Shirou Kotomine as his Master right till the very end. He continued to serve the Masters whose consciousness had been stolen until the end. He merely obeyed Shirou out of necessity in order to protect them; if it weren’t for that, he would have been an aloof Servant who would merely obey his Master’s desire to “obtain the Holy Grail”. He truly is a saint, although I get the feeling that, after having served with such an honest and faithful attitude, he said in the Moon Cell, “Then, this time I’m put together with a completely useless shut-in of a Master”, but who knows?
This time, he had an abundant prana supply, so he was able to utilize his full power at full throttle, unlike anything seen previously. Honestly, I feel regret over maybe having gone too far with him. He acts as if damage is nothing to him thanks to his golden armor, he sends the enemy flying with his “Prana Burst, he’s covered in flames like a burning phoenix, and his divine spear releases a humongous explosion—in contrast to his modest attitude, it gave the impression that he was rampaging violently.
He possesses power and skill that isn’t inferior to that of Achilles within the Red camp; truly a case of two star players in a single team. During the great battle in the second volume, Lancer of Black’s repeated attacks weren’t half-hearted at all, and any other Lancer besides Karna wouldn’t have been able to withstand it.
Karna saw in Siegfried in the face of a pure warrior trying to carry out his duty even while feeling anguished by something. It seems it was similar to what he saw in the legendary bowman who he fought in the past.
Also, originally in the Jumbo Jet Counter-Attack battle of volume 5, there were plans to have something like a ‘Massive Jumbo Jet Target Shooting scene where Karna readies himself and sticks his spear in the ground, and when Semiramis asks what he is doing, he says, “Weapons are unnecessary. A true hero kills with his eyes!”’, but it was too much of a ridiculous gag and it ended up being cut.

The Succession of Blood [Noble Phantasm]
Legend of Dracula. The forbidden Noble Phantasm of Lancer of Black, Vlad III. In Romania, Vlad is treated as a hero, but this Noble Phantasm releases his abilities as the “Vampire Dracula”, who possesses great fame worldwide except for Romania. In that sense, it resembles the “Hanging Gardens of Babylon: Aerial Gardens of Vanity” which is also a fictional legend.
This Noble Phantasm grants the power of vampires from fiction, making Vlad capable of turning even Servants into fellow vampires through the act of sucking their blood. He can also change form into mist or a flurry of bats, and all physical damage is negated when he is in those forms.
Besides his fangs and superhuman strength, his weapons include stakes which he can create from within his body to stab his enemies. Though his thought processes are weakened equivalent to the effect of Mad Enhancement, if you look at his overall abilities, his strength is greater in this form than Vlad III as a sovereign.

Right Arm - Wickedness Predation [Noble Phantasm]
Left Arm - Foundation of Heaven's Blessing [Noble Phantasm]
Right Hand - Evil Eater.
Left Hand - Xanadu Matrix.
The Noble Phantasms used by Shirou Kotomine since the time of the Third Holy Grail War. They are the legend materialization type. They are both Rank D. The right arm possesses the same function as the skill “Eye of the Mind (True)” and the left arm has the same function as the skill “Eye of the Mind (False)”, and they both strengthen the power of Baptism Rites.
By linking to the foundation of all forms of magecraft, these Noble Phantasms make it possible to use, to a certain degree, even magecraft that the user shouldn’t know of except as general knowledge. They are handy and convenient Noble Phantasms, but even if Shirou was summoned as a Caster, he still wouldn’t stand a chance against a first-rate magus like Medea.
However, this modest blessing of being able to use any magecraft without needing to master them is what allowed him to gain complete control of the Greater Grail.

Lord El-Melloi II [Person's name]
Waver Velvet, who appeared in “Fate/Zero”. This is him roughly ten years after those events. He was half-forced to inherit the title of El Melloi II by Reines and spend his days working hard to repay his debt and repair the family’s Magic Crest while teaching students as a professor.
To find out more about him, go check out “Character material”. Even in the “Fate/Apocrypha” world, he fought alongside Rider, Iskander, in a subspecies Holy Grail War against Kayneth—that’s the setting here, anyway.
After the end of the novels, Caules Forvedge Yggdmillennia also ends up joining El Melloi II’s class.

God is Here With Me [Noble Phantasm]
Luminosite Eternelle. By brandishing her holy flag, she can convert her EX rank Magic Resistance skill into an equally powerful defense that blocks all physical attacks. It is the crystallization of the legend of Jeanne d’Arc waving her flag on the battlefield and fighting to the very end with hardly any wounds.
However, each time she uses it, she accumulates damages, so naturally she can’t withstand an Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm multiple times in a row. Also, only Heroic Spirits who had witnessed Jeanne’s legend in life—in other words, only Gilles, in his past form as a Marshal of France, can use this Noble Phantasm besides Jeanne.
There are various theories about the flag’s design, with many popular suggestions featuring angels or flowers (specifically, the iris flower). Incidentally, Jeanne uses this flag mostly to attack in battle. “There’s a spear-point at the tip, so it’s a divine sign that this flag should be used to strike the enemy,” is what she says as an excuse each time one of the Servants she passes judgement on protests about it. Please stop.

The Holy Mother of Dismemberment [Noble Phantasm]
Maria the Ripper. The Noble Phantasm of Assassin of Black, Jack the Ripper. It is a Noble Phantasm that has sublimated the Jack the Ripper murders as a concept, of a somewhat different nature than normal assassination-type Noble Phantasms. By fulfilling three conditions when activating the Noble Phantasm, its power is doubled. First condition: the target is female (including female animals as well). Second condition: there is fog out. Third condition: it is night. In a Holy Grail War, it is relatively easy to fulfill all but the first of these conditions, so in that regard it can be considered an easy to use Noble Phantasm.
And when this is combined with Jack’s skill “Information Erasure”, she can act more than sufficiently as a member of the Assassin class.
However, though her Noble Phantasm’s power is great, its damage is determined by the target’s resistance to curses. It is difficult for “Maria the Ripper” to deal its full power just as planned against enemies, except for modern day Heroic Spirits. Only if she has a Master that is the best in terms of magecraft and all three conditions are fulfilled can this Noble Phantasm have power equal to the average “Zabaniya” used by the Hassans.

Fortress of Millennia [Place name]
The fortress where the Black Masters and Servants are gathered. It is a huge fortress that is big enough to take up half the area of Trifas. It is even bigger and more complex than most famous European castles, and it has been made unbelievably secure thanks to the combination of various Mystic Codes and defensive spells that Yggdmillennia has stored there over the past sixty years. Homunculi continue keeping guard day and night, and golems that move to intercept the moment they sense movement are hidden in some of the pillars, floors and ceilings.
The clan’s leader, who has barely aged at all, is a good example of what happens when you manically prepare beforehand. However, half of all those scrupulous preparations were blown away with a single punch from a certain mad warrior…

Necromancy magecraft [Others]
Necromancy magecraft. The style of magecraft that Shishigou Kairi uses.
Necromancy falls under the magecraft systems of both communicating with the dead and curses among the departments within the Association of Magi, and the term specifies all magecraft styles that primarily use and process corpses. Even after the soul has vanished, a magus’ body continues to have extremely potent magical properties, so the corpses of magi are more useful than regular corpses. Besides magi, corpses of things like beasts with magical properties are also highly valued by necromancers. For instance, a Phantasmal Species can be made into a suitably strong Mystic Code. Shishigou Kairi processes pieces of corpses such as these for every use he could. For example, he used things like monkey hands, owl eyes, and the hearts of magi.
Shishigou Kairi’s Mystic Codes were very high quality, and most of all were easy to use since the Mystic Codes that he made from corpses lacked negative factors such as “regret” and “malice” attached to them (while these increase a Mystic Code’s power, it proportionally raises the possibility of it going berserk). And those who should have fallen into ruin ended up becoming the subject of conversation among magi again—that includes the story of how Shishigou Kairi’s Magic Crest was turned poisonous, though.

Reverse Side of the World [Others]
The place where the evil dragon Fafnir finally arrived at the very end of the novels. The Phantasmal Races, having understood that the Age of the Gods was over, ceded the Earth’s surface to humans and moved to this place. The world where humans currently live (including the laws of physics) is like a fabric that thinly extends across the surface of the planet. Beneath that fabric exist the planet known as “Earth”. On the other hand, the Reverse Side of the World is the world as it was before humans lived there… that is, the fabric of the era where Phantasmal Races strode the land. In other words, the Earth is the bottommost layer of the planet, and it is covered by the “Reverse Side of the World”—the place where the laws of the “world” as it once was reigns, and covering that is the “Present World”.
In the Reverse Side of the World, the Holy Grail cannot activate its function of “using the Third Sorcery”. In the first place, that function was for the sake of granting Shirou Kotomine’s wish. In other words, it is programmed to target humans, and doesn’t count Phantasmal Races as valid targets.
Jeanne d’Arc is a Heroic Spirit who, from the start, lost her human body long ago. Because of that, the chances of her reaching the Reverse Side weren’t completely zero… However, that is merely the kind of “not zero” like, as a comparison, somehow managing to pass through a wall with the tunnel effect, but the Throne where Heroic Spirits Exist is cut off from the time axis, so she effectively had an infinite number of attempts to try.

Pankration [Others]
The martial arts used by Archer of Black, Chiron. Combining boxing and wrestling, it is most likely the first mixed martial arts in history. If you ask why the centaur Chiron-sensei knows something like this, it’s because ancient boxing originates from the god Apollo.
In Chiron’s case, this fighting style is included in “Wisdom of Divine Gift”, but he actually possesses skill in it equivalent to A rank. Eh, Plato-sensei? …His skill in it is EX Rank… probably…

Pentel Brothers [Person's name]
When I first started writing these characters, I came up with freelance magi under the theme of “joined”… in other words, conjoined twins… actually, characters like the resistance leader Kuato who appeared in “Total Recall” (the 1990 version), but the Red Masters basically didn’t need to be written in such detail, so I quickly moved it to the discarded ideas pile.
Just like Zugzwang (the magus clan that appeared in the short story that was published in Type Moon Ace), they are the type of magi who divided up their family’s Magic Crest between themselves and display greater power when near each other. “We are 1+1=200…!” Well, these types generally end up disputing with each other as siblings or leave themselves unguarded and die, though.

Complaint Message on the Arrow [Noble Phantasm]
Phoebus Catastrophe. The Anti-Army Noble Phantasm of Archer of Red, Atalanta. Since her other Noble Phantasm is an unmanageable Mad Enhancement-type Noble Phantasm, a Master would have to make Atalanta fight using this Noble Phantasm as the focal point in order to actually make proper use of her.
She makes a prayer to both Apollo and Artemis, which then causes countless arrows to shoot down from the sky. Its other name, “Soul-Chasing and Life-Stealing Sword”, is incorrect. Also, in [Complete Material], it was written that it could only attack either men or women at a single time, but that made it too hard to use so it was revised.
Like when she used it against Berserker of Red, Spartacus, in the second volume, it can be used to shoot a narrower area as well, making it a very convenient Noble Phantasm. Though the damage dealt by each individual arrow is small, they attack in great numbers, so the Noble Phantasm is strong against Servants who have low endurance and high agility. Just like she herself is.

Reines El-Melloi Archisorte [Person's name]

…But it would be too much to leave it at just that. She is the legitimate successor of the El Melloi clan. She is Lord El Melloi II’s younger stepsister. Her existence was hinted at in the El Melloi II entry of “Character material” which was published in 2006. In this series, she made a grand appearance along with her mercury maid Trimmau.
She only has a minor supporting role in this work, so her character was made a bit sweeter and childish than other works. Her hiding in a cardboard box and shouting “Boo!” with a hearty laugh is an excellent indication of this.
When her predecessor Kayneth went off in high spirits with his fiancée Sola-Ui to participate in the Holy Grail War and ended up magnificently having the table turned on him, Reines apparently had a dispute with the Sophia-Ri family, and she is still on bad terms with them even today.

Reika Rikudou [Person's name]
The female Master of Assassin of Black. She is the only Black Master who is not a member of the Yggdmillennia clan. When she was young, she was a highly cultivated young lady from a wealthy family, but after her parents died in an accident, she fell into a degraded lifestyle in the blink of an eye and, in the present, ended up supporting a certain man while working as a prostitute.
That man is Sagara Hyouma. By using hypnosis to control Reika and make her completely trust him, he used her as a sacrifice to summon Jack the Ripper. However, Jack was summoned before Reika died, and Reika formed a contract with Jack before Hyouma could. The original summoner Sagara Hyouma was killed immediately after, and Reika ended up becoming the Master of Assassin of Black.
After hearing about the Greater Holy Grail War from Jack and going to Romania, Reika gathered information and prana while taking advantage of the fact that she’s not a magus, which made it hard for the other competitors to find her. She planned to kill the other Black Masters, but—
She and Assassin of Black met their end in Volume 4.
In truth, she is a unique natural genius and natural monster, the only one of her kind in this work. Her comprehension and observing eye towards everything is abnormal, and she continued to calmly slaughter magi while always maintaining Assassin’s superiority in a situation where the two of them had few weapons and little prana. Even before she left Japan, she turned the tables on and killed a squad of Yggdmillennia assassins with Jack’s help. In addition, she’s extremely proficient with learning languages. She can even smoothly speak in Latin.
She has no hesitation towards murder and possesses no unnecessary emotional attachment to survival, so once she decided to “steal the Holy Grail”, she simply strived undaunted towards that goal. Yet, her wish is nothing special. She simply acts following the optimal strategy, like an AI, for the sake of Jack, who saved her life.
Jack is the only one who she showers with human-like affection. This is because, in her entire two decades of life, Jack was the only one who saved her without asking for compensation. In a sense, Reika is certainly similar to Jack’s victims, but she differed from them in a single aspect. Her life was spent being stolen from and trodden upon by others, but she never tried to steal anything from anyone herself. Even though she lived her life going with the flow—spending an empty life that involved just beating her heart, she still tightly grasped onto her own life, at least.
From an outsider’s point of view, her life was completely meaningless. A boring, worthless life of only walking aimlessly while zealously hanging onto her heart. But Assassin of Black, Jack the Ripper, saw that life as meaningful.
Even if Jack had a cruel innocence that saw her mother’s visage in every woman.
Even if Jack would have easily killed Reika if things had happened even a little bit differently.
Jack, who had chosen “not to take her life”, was a dazzlingly beloved child to Reika. That’s why, when Jack was targeted by Archer of Red, Atalanta, Reika was able to protect Jack with her own body without any regret.
No matter how foolish an act it was.
She ended her life by her own hands without an ounce of regret.

Discarded Servants [Other]
The Servants who experienced the bitterness of being discarded in the transition from the proto-version of “Apocrypha” featured in “Complete material IV” to the official light novels.
The one who disappeared first was Sakata Kintoki. As an enemy to the protagonist side, he’s a far too nice guy to fight, and as an ally, he’s very reliable. Furthermore, one aspect of the plot that was decided near the beginning was that “Frankenstein will use her Noble Phantasm and revive”, so Frankenstein had to take up the slot for the ally Berserker, causing Kintoki to be discarded. The next one to be cut was Musashibou Benkei. In his case, I briefly outlined him as a Servant who’s mentality was very complex which made him hard to act as a partner to a Master, but the Master-Servant pairs had already been decided and there was too little room for him to cut in. Most of all, there were three Lancers drafted in the first place, and the remaining two were Vlad III and Karna. The fact that he was a Japanese Servant also played a factor, so he was unfortunately retired from the running.
During this period of the plot creation, the following had already been basically decided: “Romanian stage. Vlad III’s big fame bonus. Central Servants are Jeanne and Astolfo, and the rival Servant is Amakusa Shirou Tokisada.” Therefore, the next one to be retired was Georgius. Since he would be the third saint in the story, he would have to be included in the ideological conflict between Jeanne and Amakusa, but I feared it would become too confusing. Also, considering the final outcome of the story, his value as a character dimmed further since his Noble Phantasm would cause the metamorphosis midway through the story, so he was discarded.
Now then, one of the two planned Riders has been discarded and left an empty Rider slot, so let’s think of possible choices. If possible, it should be someone really famous who wouldn’t be too intertwined with the main plot of the story… With that thinking, the candidate that came to mind was Achilles.
I want one more Servant suitable to act as a rival to Achilles on the opposing team from him. For example, how about his teacher Chiron? But in that case, one of the initially planned Archers would have to be discarded.
At this point, it was already decided that Atalanta would oppose Jeanne, so she had to be in the Red camp like Achilles. The remaining Archer was David. There was no problem with him as an ally character-wise, Vlad III was planned to be made the head of the Black camp. If there were another world-famous king on the same team as him, his relationship with Vlad would become complex… As such, David was the last one to be discarded.
This segment has already become very drawn-out, but, well, I have say to congratulations for them all getting to make a return in “Fate/Grand Order”…

Rider of “Black” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp. His true name is Astolfo, one of Charlemagne’s Twelve Paladins. He is the son of King Otto of England, and was destined to become king in the future.
He is one of the two major problem children in the light novels. Though he possessed a beautiful face and was beloved by all of the other Paladins, he is a “weak” knight whose abilities are inferior to the rest of them.
However, he himself didn’t care about his weakness at all and even when he felt depressed after losing a jousting match, he forget about it soon after. The easy-going Astolfo, whether due to possessing good luck or being loved for his attitude, ended up obtaining various Noble Phantasms.
He was given “Casa Di Logistilla: Declaration of Complete Destruction”, capable of destroying all spells, as a gift from a witch, borrowed the jousting lance “Trap of Argalia: Down with a Touch!” that Argalia had forgotten and left behind, and secured “Hippogriff: Otherworldly Phantasmal Horse” from the evil magus Atlante.
Astolfo fully used these Noble Phantasms and went on various adventures.
…Incidentally, since he happily loaned away most of his borrowed items when someone asked for them, he is the type that fundamentally feels no attachment to goods and objects. That might be precisely why various Noble Phantasms came into Astolfo’s possession during his life.
Astolfo’s clothes are based on his tastes—no, not his tastes; rather, he wore them in order to calm and appease Roland, who went mad after he was spurned by the woman he loved. The reason he had that appearance when he was summoned is probably because the Greater Grail decided that that was the point of “Astolfo’s heyday”. How cruel.
He is truly second-rate as a Servant. He lacks the ability to be first-rate, and even if his abundant Noble Phantasms give him a bit of an advantage, he would be overwhelmingly beaten by someone power like a Saber-class Servant due to the difference in pure strength.
However, if you consider him as a single chess piece among many in the Great Holy Grail War, his abundant Noble Phantasms can expand the breadth of his team’s tactics, and his Noble Phantasms which can make the enemy incapable of moving or fall into confusion are suited to keeping the enemy in place.
You could say he truly is a piece suited to the Great Holy Grail War, but… unfortunately, Astolfo’s sense of values is abnormal. For instance, if even a homunculus asked him for help, he would comply with all his power and do it even while knowing full well that it would be disadvantageous to his camp.
Due to his skill “Evaporation of Sanity”, he also possesses the special skill “Monstrous Strength” limited to magical beasts, though its rank is low, and his Magic Resistance is raised to A rank thanks to his Noble Phantasm. It makes him basically invincible and troublesome against an ordinary magus Master. If he were to aim to kill the other Masters, even winning the Holy Grail War might not be just a dream for him—but regrettably, that’s the type of strategy that Astolfo would definitely refuse, making it a dream within a dream.
In the light novels, his bottomless soft-heartedness, his optimism and, most of all, his dynamic attitude greatly affect the story. If Sieg is the shaft of the car wheel and Ruler is the car wheel, Astolfo is like the lubricating oil. Also, “Evaporation of Sanity” is, obviously, not a good skill. To lack reason means you can’t control your own desires. However, despite lacking reason, Astolfo eliminates the concept of “doing something bad” from his mind on an instinctive level in the first place, so it’s all good in the end…!
His feelings towards Sieg are passionate and frank. Incidentally, Astolfo doesn’t care about male and female gender differences at all. If he loves someone, whether they’re a man or woman is a trivial issue. If Sieg wished for it, he would have probably happily become his partner. However, Sieg himself is only aware of the “act of reproduction” as a phrase that means to bring into existence a life besides oneself.
He has a wish for the Holy Grail, but he still hasn’t thought about what it is. His principle was to think and actually find his wish after he reaches the point where his wish comes true. The reason that Astolfo can be summoned in a Holy Grail War despite this nature of his is because of his sense of duty to help if someone is so troubled that they call for him, similar to Karna. For some reason, it seems another class he is compatible with is the Saber class.
After the end of the light novels, Astolfo went on a wandering journey. Humanity is immature as a species, and Astolfo himself is also immature as a Servant. Even so, to make their lives as they live desperately meaningless was, as he thought, mistaken. Astolfo will continue to optimistically help those who want help without asking for any real compensation and live on until the day when he feels like he wants to live. His way of life, no matter how weak he is, truly is appropriate for a hero.

Rider of “Red” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Red camp. Though he was deceived by Shirou Kotomine, he understood the situation and reluctantly decided to serve him. A natural-born warrior who, rather than concerning himself over whether or not Shirou’s wish would be fulfilled, looked forward to his showdown with Archer of Black more than anything else.
His true name is Achilles. The fastest hero among all humanity, lauded for his great valor and prowess in the Trojan War. He definitely ranks equals with Heracles in terms of fame—after all, his name is attached to one of the vital points of the human body.
However, in contrast with his fame, the time during which Achilles accomplished great deeds was comparatively short. His deeds are also almost completely carved into the Trojan War alone. He had the turning point of his life thrust before him at a young age: he could run through his life like a transient gale in exchange for accomplishing magnificent deeds in the Trojan War, or he could become a person unknown to anyone in the world and live a long life.
Achilles gave his answer to his mother without hesitating. “—I will live a short yet brilliant life.”
Achilles was raised by Chiron and, after undergoing training as a hero, he threw himself into the Trojan War. Meeting his sword friend Patroclus, meeting his wife, battles and sworn rivals, meeting Hector—
Without a doubt, Achilles ran through his life while treating all of those things as a joy to have experienced.
He is without a doubt first rate as a Servant. Even among the Servants from Greek legend, he boasts of power that ranks next to Heracles. He also has an abnormally abundant number of Noble Phantasms. In the beginning, all these Noble Phantasms were written out, and when I consulted over how many of them should be used, Mr. NP said, “Isn’t a super-strong Servant with an abundance of Noble Phantasms fine?”, and easily permitted all of them to be adopted. I never thought I would end up using all of them…
Naturally, he is a Servant who would instantly run out of prana if he used them in a normal Holy Grail War. The prana consumption of Rider’s chariot is uncommonly harsh in particular, and only a first rate Master could fully utilize him.
Additionally, besides the Rider class, Achilles has aptitude as a Lancer, Berserker and, quite unusually, a Shielder. His complement of Noble Phantasms is slightly different in each of the other classes. For instance, as a Lancer, he would lose his chariot since it is his Noble Phantasm as a Rider, but his spear would gain the secondary effect of causing HP reduction.
His fatal weak point, his heel, serves as the linchpin for his Noble Phantasms “Andreis Amarantos: Amaranth of the Brave”, which maintains his immortality, and “Dromeus Cometes: Comet Form”, for which he is extolled as the fastest, and when his heel is pierced, these two Noble Phantasms disappear. After being pierced once, it is extremely difficult for his heel to be healed, and, without the use of some extraordinary means, there is no way for him to completely regain his running speed afterwards.
In this Great Holy Grail War, Achilles wished for a showdown with his teacher, Archer of Black, and gave his assent to Shirou Kotomine’s actions for the sake of accomplishing that. This might be because, leaving aside his animosity towards Semiramis, he does not really hold much ill feelings towards Shirou. Just as Archer of Black aptly pointed out, Achilles is naïve when it comes to his recognition of enemies and allies. This is a probably demonstration of the difference of experience between him and the older Cu Chulainn, who is able to decisively kill when he needs to kill even when split between enemies and allies in such a manner.
His connection to Atalanta actually begins from a story he heard from his father in life. His father, who was always somehow gentle and could never stand up against his mother, had spoken of his encounter with Atalanta embarrassingly, and because of that the young Achilles always remembered her. He never got the chance to meet her in life, though.
Achilles thinks that it is his fault for overlooking Atalanta’s transformation while engrossed in his own battle. He fought her in her rampage as a way of atonement. Achilles cried out of guilt for having crushed Atalanta’s dream.
But I’d like to think that it was that very naivety and tears of her that granted Atalanta a small measure of salvation at the very end.

Risei Kotomine [Person's name]
The person that the Holy Church dispatched to the Holy Grail War during the Third War in Fuyuki. He was assigned as the moderator of the war. However, the Greater Grail was stolen during the Third War, and despite being the moderator he reluctantly intervened into the situation and rescued the Master of the Tohsaka, who he was friends with. In the midst of that, the Einzbern Servant, Amakusa Shirou Tokisada, helped him with his rescue work.
As thanks, Riser prepared a family register for him after he gained a flesh body, registering him as his son “Kotomine Shirou”.
He entered the Assembly of the Eighth Sacrament as Kotomine Shirou, but naturally Risei couldn’t acknowledge him as his son there and approached him honestly as a friend. Around the time when Risei’s son Kirei was born, Shirou had deliberately diminished his contact with Risei.
Since there was no fear of a Fourth Holy Grail War, Riser appeared to have been able to live somewhat longer here, but he has already died from disease before the start of the “Apocrypha” novels. His funeral was the last time that his son Risei and Shirou met.

Rocco Belfaban [Person's name]
The dean of the Department of Summoning. The Department of Summoning is a subordinate organization to the Department of Spiritual Evocation, which ended up being regarded very highly only in the “Fate/Apocrypha” world. As you all already know, subspecies Holy Grail Wars are held all over the place in the “Apo” world, so the Association of Magi had to quickly form countermeasures. At first, every magecraft department even slightly linked to Servant summoning techniques were scrambling to reap the benefits before each other, causing ugly conflicts to continue even after a Holy Grail War ended, so it was decided to treat “everything related to Servants of the Holy Grail War” under the category of “summoning”, entrusting all responsibility to an assured conservative in the Association.
That conservative is this old man, Rocco Belfegan. Status-wise, he is effectively a “proxy Lord”. Of course, since there is a conservative faction, there is also a reformist faction, and they strongly recommended Lord El Melloi II, who survived the largest-scale subspecies Holy Grail War in history, for the position instead. (However, the El Melloi clan’s stance is conservative, and El Melloi II’s own position is neither conservative nor reformist, maintaining a complicatedly neutral stance.)
Fortunately, both of them are well aware of the threat of subspecies Holy Grail Wars, and their views match in that they prioritize resolving the situation over the gains for their respective factions.
Rocco is a collection maniac, and yet by contrast is quite sloppy with what he collects. He’s the type to be completely neglectful by using Mystic Codes that activate just by having them on hand. He has stated in quite a carefree manner, “It’s fine as long as I have just Mystic Codes that resist against curses”. No, it’s not fine. He doesn’t involve himself much with the students, so there are lots of rumors like “The old man’s private room is becoming more and more of an entirely different world every year” about him.

Roche Frain Yggdmillennia [Person's name]
One of the Black Masters. Thirteen years old, and the youngest skilled magus of the Black Masters excluding Caules. His character concept is something like “a pupil and his teacher who he doesn’t really disagree with, but fatally misunderstands”. His talent with golem-making techniques stood out above the rest from a young age and he made even further leaps and bounds after he received the transplant of his family’s Magic Crest.
When he summoned Avicebron, he privately thought that “he wasn’t anything great” at first, but he couldn’t help being moved by the overwhelming beauty and toughness of the golems that Avicebron made. After that, he became Avicebron loyal pupil—but he never expected that Avicebron would go as far as to take his life.
Even when he heard from Avicebron that exceptional Magic Circuits were needed as the core to “Golem Keter Malkuth: Royal Crown, the Light of Wisdom”, he didn’t pay it any mind, never thinking that “he himself” fit those conditions.
In that case, what should Roche have done in order for him and Caster of Black to have understood each other better? Unfortunately, there was no means of saving him from his fate besides ordering Caster to kill himself with a Command Spell. One of these two in this Master-Servant pair would have to die without exception.
Though it was a summoning done with a catalyst, this Master and Servant are extremely compatible in terms of mentality, but their respective trends and way of thinking were both too extreme.
Incidentally, if you were to ask why Roche is the only character that was made thirteen years old… my memories are fuzzy, but I think the “Giant Robo” OVA that I own was the cause. For good or ill, the idea of a remote control robot (as in, Testsujin) stuck to me.

Rods From God [Others]
An enchanted weapon… or not. It is actually a new weapon created by modern science. It is a simple yet deep space-born weapon that consists of dropping big, long and heavy metal rods from space and destroying targets with their kinetic energy.
Of course, it is considered a far off idea since there is the issue of the rods burning up in the atmosphere, and it is nothing more than idle gossip. Well, if Ruler threw her holy flag from space with all her might, it might create an approximately similar amount of kinetic energy, though.

Rottweil Berzinsky [Person's name]
A Red Master. His nickname is Silver Lizard. Just like the other Red Masters such as Gene Ram and the Pentel Brothers, he has fought both together and against Shishigou at various times in the past. He is obsessed with animals, particularly lizards, and the skin on almost all his vital spots besides his face are covered with silver scales.
He and the others were given such individualistic settings, but they were all completely defeated with Semi-sama’s attack of “Now, now, have a cup of tea”.

Saber of “Black” [Servant]
One of the Servants of the Black camp. His true name is Siegfried. He is an undisputed great hero and “dragon slayer” who appears in the “Nibelungenlied”. His tall stature, slender body and tanned-colored skin are proof of him having been soaked in the blood of a dragon. The reason the weak point on his back is exposed is because of a “curse” that forces him to do so. It conceptually prevents him from protecting his back. Even if Siegfried were to be protected by something like a spherical barrier, a hole in it would definitely open facing his back. However, there aren’t many heroes who possess the skill to pull off the tricky feat of aiming for Siegfried’s back while fighting him in the first place.
Just as the impression of his face gives off, he is reticent, but his bearing, which overflows with dignity, makes him seem well-bred. He is the type to talk with a simple, unsophisticated tone and hold back his words to the absolute minimum needed. That is the foundation of his personality, and it deepened the antagonism between him and his Master Gordes.
Siegfried’s legend came into existence around the 5~6th century and spread to many lands. At nearly the same time as the “Nibelungenlied”, the story of the hero Sigurd, the “Volsunga Saga”, came into existence. Wagner’s opera “Der Ring des Nibelungen” is a masterpiece work that compiles these legends together.
In the light novels, Siegfried as he was portrayed in the “Nibelungenlied” forms the basic essentials of his character, and he only knows about the Norse Valkyries from second-hand knowledge.
With him possessing the noble lineage of royalty, being known for various his adventures and heroic tales and having met a tragic end, there are few heroes who are as heroic as him.
But it is precisely because he is such a heroic hero that he was unconsciously burdened by binds. A hero acts out of the supplications of the people, and therefore should not act without being asked. This is because a hero is such a being. Because they possess overwhelmingly immense power, they must not act out of their own will and try to grant their own wish. A hero is a being that fulfills the wishes of others, and must not ever tread any further than that.
When his wife and the wife of his brother-in-law wounded each other’s honor and a collision between them became inevitable, he once more granted everyone’s wish. He thought that it would be resolved if he, the cause of it all, died. In the end, it called forth even more tragedy, so it seems the curse of the Rhine gold took effect perfectly.
As a Servant, he is basically hard, solid and tough. “Armor of Fafnir: Blood Armor of the Evil Dragon” blocks all regular attacks up to B rank and all Noble Phantasm attacks up to B+ rank and, in addition, “Balmung: Phantasmal Greatsword, Felling of the Sky Demon” unleashes a wide-range attack that displays its true worth against an army. The blue jewel encased in the hilt of the sword contains prana from the Age of Gods, and it is possible to pull out the sword’s power to the maximum with just small quantity of it. During his battle with Karna, Sieg managed to use the Noble Phantasm so many times consecutively only because he continued instantaneously pulling out the sword’s power while replenishing his prana with “Galvanism”. The Servant version of Siegfried cannot instantly replenish the prana he expends, so his sword’s accumulation of prana is overwhelmingly faster than that of an average Anti-Army Noble Phantasm, though still not as fast as Sieg.
In the initial plans of the Yggdmillennia team, Siegfried would go out to the front lines and receive the attacks of enemy Servants as Vlad III’s protector. Vlad would be positioned to control the battlefield with “Kaziklu Bey: Lord of Execution”. Jack the Ripper would kill the enemy Masters and cause chaos in the enemy’s rear guard along with Frankenstein. Astolfo would guide the golems and control the situation with Avicebron, while Chiron would act as support by shooting at areas where a hole in the enemy lines could be made.
It was truly a perfect formation as an academic theory, but they were forced to tearfully change tactics due to Siegfried unbelievably leaving the battlefield before the war actually began.

Saber of “Red” [Servant]
A Red Servant, but one that has actually gone over to the Black camp. In contrast to the way the Red camp was unified under Shirou Kotomine as the only Master, she alone formed a partnership with Shishigou Kairi as her Master, as done in a normal Holy Grail War.
Her true identity is Mordred, one of the Knights of the Round Table. She is the Knight of Rebellion who ended King Arthur’s legend. And she was also born as an inhuman being like King Arthur. After all, her father is King Arthur, and her mother is the mortal enemy of King Arthur, the witch Morgan.
Mordred’s true identity is that of an artificial life-form; in other words, a homunculus. Accordingly, her life-span was extremely short, and she was born expressly for the purpose of killing King Arthur.
Far from hating King Arthur, she came to feel only yearning and admiration for her father, but when she confessed to King Arthur that she was his legitimate child not knowing what else to do, the king declared that he wouldn’t acknowledge her as the next king, and this caused her longing to change completely into hatred.
And then, as if guided by a blood-stained destiny, Mordred fought against King Arthur on the Hill of Camlann. Though she was defeated, she managed to deal a fatal wound, and thus brought an end to King Arthur’s legend.
As a Servant, she is first-class. Though her overall specs are lower compared to her father Arthur, the King of Knights, she possesses power worthy of the Saber class. By combining her jet propulsion through “Prana Burst” and her sword “Clarent: Radiant Sword of the King”, her attacks can cut down most Servants in a single slash. Also, the defensive strength of her armor is also considerable aside from its abilities, so she was able to avoid a fatal blow despite being hit by a fully-powered attack from Berserker of Black that was strengthened by a Command Spell.
Her position in the story, rather than her actual character, is like that of Bonnie and Clyde, who lived by the motto “We have no tomorrow”. In the initial plot, it was decided that she would merely “rampage around and then exit the stage”.
Mordred’s story also progressed in the background of the main story. She thought over her past in the form of a dream, and the meetings she then had with various Servants—particularly the conversation she had with the homunculus like her and his Servant—served as a turning point for her.
As a result, Mordred finally understood what her father sought when he pulled the sword from the stone. In the end, it was because she didn’t understand that that Mordred continued to live in anguish. She did not feel fear towards the king like the other knights. After all, she herself was an inhuman being.
Even so, let’s suppose that she might happen to encounter her father in a Holy Grail War somewhere. She would immediately fight and try to slash her father apart. Believing she has managed to understand her father and passionately wanting to surpass her father are separate matters for her.
She hates being treated as a woman, but also feels dissatisfied with being treated as a man, making a very complicated, or rather bothersome, Servant. She chose her clothes herself, so she does not seem to have a problem with her appearance being seen as feminine by others.
Also, she is being supplied with plenty of prana, but she is the type to proactively eat food in order to enjoy the present age without caring about the necessity. Her food preferences lean somewhat towards junk food, and she loves carbonated drinks.
Perhaps due to being summoned with a vague catalyst like a splinter of the Round Table, she has miraculously good compatibility with her Master Shishigou. Though it was not mentioned in the story, she liked Shishigou from the start based on his clothing due to her overflowing rebellious spirit.

Helm of Hidden Infidelity [Noble Phantasm]
Secret of Pedigree. The Noble Phantasm of Saber of Red, Mordred. She hid her face with a helmet given to her as a set with a suit of armor by Morgan in order to prevent King Arthur and his subordinates from learning of her true identity.
It’s a little like a simplified version of “For Someone’s Glory: Not For One’s Own Glory” from “Fate/Zero”. The condition to negate the effects of this Noble Phantasm is solely the act of her removing her helmet on the battlefield, so it will continue to hide her stats even if she walks around normally with her face unhidden. I understand it seems like a bit of a lame excuse, but walking through the streets in a suit of armor only works in a Fantasy RPG world, so please bear with it.
Perhaps due to having being enchanted by Morgan, both the helmet and armor are quite sturdy in terms of defense as well. Furthermore, “Clarent Blood Arthur: Rebellion Against My Beautiful Father” cannot be used until the helmet is removed. As a result, Mordred keeps it almost always removed after she first takes it off the time.
This is a bit of a digression, but the helmet isn’t placed down anywhere when it’s off, but instead is inserted into the armor (the reverse is also possible). I found the scene where the protagonist of a certain Sci-Fi Horror TPS Game equipped their helmet to be really cool, so I fervently requested it of Konoe-san (TL note: the illustrator). Even if the author was satisfied with it, it was probably a huge annoyance to him. Sorry.

Shirou Kotomine [Servant]
The Servant summoned by the Einzberns in the Third Holy Grail War. His class is Ruler. His true name is Amakusa Shirou Tokisada. He is one of the masterminds in the story, and the true Last Boss. If ever the Third Holy Grail War were made into a Visual Novel, the ending would greatly differ depending on the choice of the Einzberns. Just as said until now, if they chose Avenger, events would follow the official history—that is, the “Fate/stay night” route, but if they chose Ruler, the story would follow this “Apocrypha” route.
After incarnating into a physical body in the Third Holy Grail War, he spent the next sixty years investigating all feasible documents and ley lines available and waiting for the day when the next Fuyuki Holy Grail War—that is, the “Fourth” Holy Grail war would occur.
Having already hypothesized the possibility of a Great Holy Grail War—a situation with seven Servants VS seven Servants occurring instead of a normal Holy Grail War, Shirou promptly joined the Red Camp as the dual mediator and Master sent by the Holy Church and quickly summoned Semiramis without delay. In such an abnormal situation with seven Servants VS seven Servants and where even the previous Ruler had summoned his own Servant, the Greater Grail automatically summoned the Ruler for this war, Jeanne d’Arc, but Shirou had included even that into his calculations as an event within his expectations.
There was only one thing that Shirou couldn’t predict. That was the event of a homunculus without even a name merely trying to fulfill his meager wish.
In truth, the facts concerning Amakusa Shirou Tokisada’s birth and life aren’t very clear. What’s certain is that he attained the position of being the person with the greatest responsibility and authority in the Shimabara Rebellion. Even if that is merely a palanquin—merely window dressing, this young boy was definitely the ringleader of the Shimabara Rebellion, the greatest uprising in the Edo Period.
In this work, he is the biggest and strongest problem child. The next one after him is Rider of Black. At first, Semiramis was the mastermind in the initial stages of the plot. However, all the characters including her who had already been released in “Complete Material” along with the original setting were deemed to have too weak of an impact as a mastermind. The idea of “doing something that would have been impossible in the original game setting” was one of the concepts of “Apocrypha” (I also came up with the idea of seven Servants VS seven Servants following that line of thought), and then “Makai Tenshou” (TL Note: Famous Japanese novel with several adaptations) served as an even further impetus that made me think, “How about bringing out Amakusa Shirou?”, from which everything started.
A young boy and a young girl. Both of their battles were heavily connected to flags. One who never became a saint, and one who did. Their points of commonality and difference were so clear and contrastive that I selected him as the last boss—it would have been fine if my thought process stopped there.
At that point, a demon whispered to me, “…Speaking of which, the name of the protagonist of the original Visual Novel is… and their age is almost the same too…”, and thus Shirou Kotomine was born. Not only readers, but even my friends often retorted, “Really?”, to me. Sorry, sorry. But this coincidence felt so much like destiny…!
His white hair and dark skin is compensation for his magecraft… or not. In truth, there were complex causes; his hair became white as compensation for when he forcefully incarnated and after that his skin changed color because he needed to conceal himself in the Middle East for nearly twenty years in order to search for catalysts for Semiramis. By the way, he received a catalyst for the empress from the Sophia-Ri family the moment it was decided that he would participate in the Great Holy Grail War, but it seems he secured three other catalysts on his own after searching for nearly twenty years as a precaution.
He hates humans, but he deeply loves humanity. In the Shimabara Rebellion, he witnessed just how strongly low, vulgar and cruel humans could become. They can become like this even towards those of the same race as them. If they encountered others who have a different skin color or different culture, just how much further would human cruelty increase?
These thoughts of Shirou hardened even further in the Third Holy Grail War and the Second World War which happened immediately after. In the end, he concluded that humanity could only be saved with the miracle of the Greater Grail—the Third Sorcery. He attached himself to the Assembly of the Eighth Sacrament and sometimes served as the mediator in some of the subspecies Holy Grail Wars. He had almost no interaction with the other members of the Assembly, and was viewed as a curiosity by his compatriots who wondered, “How long has this guy been here?”
As a Servant, he would be third-rate if he weren’t Ruler, just as he himself declares. It is actually quite novel for a Heroic Spirit and his Noble Phantasms to be of so little use, and he would have a very hard time winning a Holy Grail War. But on the other hand, as long as he is of the Ruler class, he can amass overwhelming advantages with the skills “True Name Discernment” and “Divine Judgement”.
He is the mastermind, but is a good and virtuous being. In the first place, it is a matter of argument whether or not Shirou’s actions are truly evil. Because you could say that he guided people through a slight shortcut to the place they would eventually reach someday. However, on the other hand, he is unmistakably evil. Because he tried to save not individual people, but only the human race itself.
 Having no hobbies or anything he likes, he lived sixty years for the sake of humanity’s salvation. Even if his plans were overturned in the end, the instant when he saw the rising sun as he lay on Semiramis’ lap—was a moment of supreme bliss for Shirou.

Sieg [Person's name]
The protagonist of the light novel “Fate/Apocrypha”. He was originally a homunculus made by Gordes to supply prana, created not to think anything and fated to die after having his prana wrung out by the Servants, but… Almost all details about him were depicted in the novels through the entire course of his life. After all, he has virtually no past to speak of.
Not only that, his life was set to be limited from the beginning as the premise of his birth. Even if he had thought of living a respectable life, he would only have live three years at the most. It’s precisely because of this that he continued to choose absurd, unreasonable and reckless choices for the sake of “what he thought he should do”.
Even after he acquired greater longevity, that aspect of him didn’t change. The reason Sieg acted for the sake of humanity at the end naturally wasn’t for humanity’s sake in and of itself. In the first place, Sieg hadn’t experienced enough to completely believe in humanity.
However, Jeanne d’Arc waged her life to win the future. It is because he saw that and wished to “become her strength” that he acted, a greatly personal desire.
Additionally, his Magic Circuits alone were of such high quality that Avicebron had an eye on him and were in no way inferior to those of Darnic, Yggdmillennia’s head. However, he can only use them to destroy things through Structural Analysis. Even if he had survived, he wouldn’t have had any intention of studying magecraft since he doesn’t have a very positive image of it.
Having transformed into one of the Dragon Kind at the end, Sieg has already lost his physical body. His final state is the form of Sieg’s soul after he transformed by making a wish upon the Holy Grail.
Incidentally, the words Jeanne spoke at the end of the novel made Sieg finally understand the reason why he continued waiting for her all that time. The two of them take being thick-headed to a new extreme!

Sighisoara [Place name]
The name of a real place. It is a Romanian provincial city to the northwest of the capital Bucharest, and it is where Vlad Tepes…Vlad III’s parental home is preserved. It has a long and old history, having been formed primarily as part of colonization from Germany in the 12th century. The old town district in particular is a precious place where buildings from the Middle Ages still remain as they were in the past.
Trifas was conceived using this city as a model, while also made so as not to be eye-catching as a tourist attraction in comparison.

Arrogant King's Alcohol [Noble Phantasm]
Sikera Ušum. The second Noble Phantasm of Assassin of Red, Semiramis. Its effect turns the surrounding environment into poison. Not only does it give a poison attribute to all attacks, it can also add poison to even the air and prana itself. It is her certain-kill Noble Phantasm as an Assassin. If a Servant has an anecdote in their legend where they withstood poison, they will receive a bonus to their resistance against this Noble Phantasm, but on the other hand, those who have anecdotes of having been killed by poison have their resistance to it go down.
 Furthermore, when Semiramis is within the “Hanging Gardens of Babylon: Aerial Gardens of Vanity”, she can even summon creatures of the Phantasmal Races if they have an anecdote related to poison.
 If she were summoned as a normal Assassin without the skill “Double Summon”, Semiramis wouldn’t be able to use the “Hanging Gardens of Babylon”, so she would use this Noble Phantasm as her main weapon instead.

Subspecies Holy Grail Wars [Others]
The small Holy Grail Wars that have been recklessly happening everywhere since several decades ago in the “Apocrypha” world. Varying from those with only two Servants to wars with five Servants which, though inferior in scale to Fuyuki, are still considerably large conflicts, all kinds of Holy Grails Wars are brightly, happily and violently taken place throughout the world.
This is because, after the Third Holy Grail War, Darnic disseminated information on the structure of the Holy Grail War, which normally should have been concealed at all costs, to other magi in order to forestall them from searching for the Holy Grail that he had stolen.
Even for magi who lament over how the Root is just a distant fairy tale, once they learned that they could take a step… or perhaps even just half a step towards reaching it through this ritual, they ended up desperately creating Holy Grails of their own.
Broadly speaking, out of a hundred Holy Grails made, ninety-five of them get stalled due to setbacks in the midst of constructing them, and out of the remaining finished five Grails, four end up incomplete and explode while prana is poured into them. The last remaining Grail out of them all manages to work properly, but the ritual is degraded in quality and cannot be compared to the one in Fuyuki.
However, with the prana accumulated in the Grail, it still becomes possible to bring about miracles of varying scale. Being summoned by such a shoddy Holy Grail is a real nuisance to the Servants, though. There are many Servants who refuse the summoning or rebel and kill their Masters.
Amongst young magi, something like a “Holy Grail War Walkthrough Wiki” has been secretly created and is used to outwit obstinate old magi by mustering their intelligence… maybe. The early period right after the subspecies Holy Grails began was called the “golden era of Assassins”, where Assassins (Hassan-i-Sabbah) were a great menace (because, on top of their prana consumption being low, killing Masters was far easier than battles between Servants, so it might have seemed like easier work in its own way), but by the middle period, countermeasures against them were naturally taken and the Hassan boom fell into decline. It’s apparently a common sight for Masters who enjoy having their Servants fight each other to easily team up just as Assassin is confirmed to be summoned.
It is quite common in the subspecies Holy Grail Wars for the Servants to be unable to display their full power as much as in Fuyuki depending on the quality of the leylines, and, since the advantages and disadvantages of each Servant also becomes clear according to their level of fame in the land where a war takes place, it often turns into a competition to obtain the catalysts of local Servants.
For instance, a subspecies Holy Grail War in Greece would create a struggle for a “catalyst of Heracles”, and the magi who managed to get it would win… In other words, the whole thing seems to go full circle and turn into a simple battle of magecraft between magi in the end. As a cute one-time divorcee magus said, “Rather, the whole idea of fighting that macho guy in his homeland is seriously ridiculous in the first place.”
After the use of Heracles was forbidden as a result of that, the next war turned into a competition over the catalyst of Achilles, and so there has never been a proper Holy Grail War held in Greece. There exist terrible tales of Holy Grail Wars like this.

Dark Misty Capital [Noble Phantasm]
The Mist. Jack, a problem, filled up with too many abilities. One of them is this Boundary Field Noble Phantasm. A sort of phenomenon turned into a Noble Phantasm. It scatters a mist of sulfuric acid over a radius of dozens of meters. It deals damage over time to ordinary people, and it also makes it difficult for magi to use magecraft if they don’t take countermeasures. Servants only drop a rank in agility, but it is extremely difficult for them to see and track Jack within the mist.
 It originally stems from the smog problem that used to occur in London. The soot and smoke that increased rapidly due to the Industrial Revolution mixed in with London’s cold fog, giving it acidic qualities that caused an enormous outbreak of victims.
 Even in 19th Century London, the problem was already becoming quite serious, and the serial killer Jack took advantage of the fog to attack prostitutes.
 Thanks to this Noble Phantasm, Jack can almost unconditionally fulfill one of the three criteria of her other Noble Phantasm—that it must be deployed in a “place enshrouded by fog”.

Third Holy Grail War [Others]
The third occurrence of the Holy Grail War held in Fuyuki. It was the war where, capitalizing on the history of shared failure during the First and Second Wars, a mediator was sent from the Holy Church, forming the current Fuyuki-style Holy Grail War format.
The timelines of this light novel series “Fate/Apocrypha” and the original visual novel “Fate/stay night” diverge at this point. In other words, history changes according to whether the Einzberns choose Avenger or Ruler as their Servant. In the former case, the Greater Grail ends up being contaminated, causing a great disaster in the Fourth War and the Holy Grail being destroyed or shut down in the Fifth War, while in the latter case, the Greater Grail isn’t contaminated, but in exchange, it is stolen away by Darnic.
Oh dear, the Einzberns really are checkmated at all sides.

Third Magic [Others]
Heaven’s Feel, the Cup of Heaven. For further details about it, you should either play the Heaven’s Feel route in the game “Fate/stay night” or, if you’re patient, wait for the animated film version of it.
…Well, I’ll touch upon it lightly at least. It is a mystery that exists in a different dimension from magecraft, one of the final goals that magi seek. Impossible feats that cannot be accomplished in the current era no matter how much time or budget you devote are called sorcery.
There are currently five sorceries in total. The third amongst them—that which the Einzberns have sought for two thousand years is the Third Sorcery, “Heaven’s Feel”. It is true, unquestionable immortality accomplished by materializing the soul. It is definitely a miracle that would undoubtedly result in the salvation of humanity should it be implemented. Sieg is unmistakably evil for having stolen away the possibility of making it a reality.

The Three Families [Others]
In “Apocrypha”, the Three Families are the magi who constructed the Fuyuki Holy Grail War… in other words, the Einzberns, Tohsaka and Makiri.
Just as alluded in the light novels, Makiri (Matou) Zouken fought fiercely against Darnic during the Third Holy Grail War, but became practically crippled due to the shock of the Greater Grail being stolen. The family wasn’t blessed with a successor either, so their future as magi has been completely shut.
The Tohsaka gave up on the Greater Grail, and now seek a new path in becoming one with the universe with Chinese Kenpou while learning magecraft. The twin-tail daughter of the family might also end up becoming the founder of a “completely new martial arts that combines magecraft and Chinese Kenpou” by the time she becomes a high school student. However, she never imagined that her younger sister who was adopted by distant relatives would come visit her in Japan after becoming a pro-wrestler with unimaginably nice proportions and forming a tag team with a drill-roll-haired girl…!
The Einzberns are in the midst of struggling to make a new Greater Grail under the excuse “It was stolen, so we’ll just make a new Holy Grail”. Fortunately, in the “Apocrypha” world, a certain dead fish-eyed mercenary won’t end up becoming involved with the Einzberns, so their greatest work Illyasviel will never be born—therefore, as long as she isn’t born, the Einzberns will never despair… Is that really fortunate?

Tool [Person's name]
One of the homunculi created by Gordes. Though her Magic Circuits are meager, she excels in fighting ability and inspiration, so she was selected as a commander. Just as told in the novels, battle-type homunculi have extremely short lifespans, with a limit of two to three months of life.
For a homunculus, she has a neat and lively personality. If we were describing her using visual novel or light novel terminology, then she would be the “female teacher-type who has sex appeal, but is unfortunately coarse and ill-mannered”.
At Gordes’ request, she has taken charge of thoroughly beating up his son. Naturally, his wife protested when their son was beat up, so Tool beat her up and beat up Gordes too while she was at it, winning supremacy over their family. It is said that, for three months, this homunculus stood at the top of the Musik family.

Down with a Touch! [Noble Phantasm]
Trap of Argalia. The second cheat Noble Phantasms of Rider of Black. It is a golden lance that originally belonged to Argalia, a knight of Cathay. With this magic lance that knocks down all those that it touches, Argalia was victorious against all the knights who challenged him in jousting matches, including Astolfo.
However, one knight didn’t surrender after being knocked off his horse and drew his sword. Reluctantly, Argalia fought him with his own sword without using his lance, but he couldn’t match the knight and ran away in the end. Argalia had trusted in the power of his magic lance too much, and so he had promised that the one who beat him would be presented his older sister Angelica (the beautiful woman who was the cause of Roland going mad later on).
Angelica also understood how bad the situation was once she learned of her younger brother’s defeat and so disappeared into hiding, and while the entire jousting contest was in total chaos, Astolfo, who had broken his own lance, noticed Argalia’s lance, remarking “Ah, so there was a lance lying around here”, and he sto… silently borrowed the lance.
Naturally, Astolfo won match after match in jousting contests afterwards.
The Noble Phantasm “Trap of Argalia” is a lance, but its actual power is very low. However, when an opponent is touched by the front tip of the lance, they will be forced into a state of falling down—in other words, their legs are forcibly changed into spiritual form. Of course, this is only temporary (after all, they are only forced into a state of “having fallen down”), and they can recover in a short period of time, but just as demonstrated in the third volume, it possesses extremely strong compelling force that can “even topple a giant”.
Incidentally, after Astolfo managed to survive through several battles with this lance, he entrusted this lance to the female knight Bradamante, the cousin of Roland. Naturally, Astolfo freely gave away such a precious lance because he didn’t know about its ability at all. As for how he kept winning in jousting matches, he apparently thought, “I ‘awakened’ the power unconsciously sealed inside me!” How awful.

Träumerei [Song Title]
A music composition by Robert Schumann. It is the seventh piece from the set of thirteen collectively called “Kinderszenen” (English: “Scenes from Childhood”). Träumerei means “to see a dream” in German, and in this case it might be most accurate to translate it as a “dream state of mind”.
It is the tune that Rikudou Reika played after being badgered by Assassin of Black, Jack the Ripper. However, Schumann didn’t actually compose this set of music pieces for children, but rather for adults to reminisce and yearn for their childhood—hence the allusion of a tune for the sake of seeing a dream. If Reika knew this, then perhaps she didn’t choose this tune just for Jack, but also to reveal the way she felt as if she were in a dream right now.

Trifas [Place name]
Sighișoara is where Vlad III’s family home is. The town next to it is the land managed by Yggdmillennia, Trifas. It was originally the landed overseen by the Prestone family… Darnic’s family. The town resembles Sighișoara, but it has virtually no sightseeing landmarks, so Trifas is rarely considered as a destination in Romania’s sightseeing tours.
Naturally, this is a result of measures taken by Yggdmillennia so as to divert attention away from this land, and members of Yggdmillennia who have secretly infiltrated the country’s travel agencies will immediately take action if someone even brings up Trifas’ name for a sightseeing tour. They do allow a few tourists to visit so as not to make the town too insular and unsociable.
The town’s current population is twenty thousand, and concealed among them are many people connected to Yggdmillennia, who, while not being magi, do know of the existence of magecraft. When tourists go out to bars and the like, the native people all look at them with transparent eyes. Well, an insular town in the countryside is the perfect setting for horror. Horror, you know?

Trimmau [Others]
The advanced version of the “Volumen Hydrargyrum: Marrow of the Moon Spirit” Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald used for battles of magecraft in “Fate/Zero”. Currently, the legitimate El-Melloi successor, Reines, is using it as a mercury maid. She (the maid) specializes not only in acting as a bodyguard, but also in using her body to clean and invade places.
People think that she was made by Lord El-Melloi II, but he actually only gave advice to Reines. There are still many secrets regarding the full details of her abilities. These details should be brought to light in “Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files” (Author: Sanda Makoto), so please look forward to it. (It’s my style to throw difficult subjects at Mr. Sanda.)

Tempestuous Immortal Chariot [Noble Phantasm]
Troias Tragōidia. The Noble Phantasm of Rider of Red, Achilles. An A rank chariot driven by three steeds. The horses consist of the two divine horses which the sea god Poseidon gave to Achilles’ father Peleus as a wedding gift, Xanthus and Balius, and the famous horse which Achilles stole from a city he attacked using his divine horses, Pedasos. According to legend, Achilles’ chariot is thought to been driven by three or four horses. Xanthus and Balius apparently served as the central pivot while Pedasos had a supporting role.
As divine horses received from Poseidon, Xanthus and Balius were clearly stated to have both been immortal in the original texts. After being summoned as a Servant’s Noble Phantasm, they aren’t quite immortal, but at the very least, they can be considered as tough as Servants themselves.
When Achilles is summoned as a Rider, his most harshly prana-consuming Noble Phantasm is this chariot. In the worst case, it is estimated that it can consume enough prana to summon another Servant besides Achilles.
Xanthus is a truly unpleasant horse who has fun telling Achilles when he falls into a dangerous situation.

Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne [Organization]
The knights of Charlemagne (Charles the Great) who Astolfo served under, for which only the most excellent people were selected to join. They are similar to the Knights of the Round Table in King Arthur’s legend, and the number and members of the Paladins differ depending on the documents which reference them. Among these uncertainties, Astolfo is also definitely confirmed to be one of the Paladins, and other members such as Roland, famed for being the wielder of Durandal, and Oliver, who wielded Hauteclaire, boast of great popularity and renown.
Roland felt in love with a beautiful queen known as Angelica, but due to being a proud woman, she rejected the idea of falling in love with a mere soldier and eloping with him, and so Roland went mad, throwing off all his clothes as he began rampaging around while completely naked. Concerned for him, Astolfo and the other Paladins worked hard to capture him and gave him a bottle of reason brought from the moon, thereby restoring his sanity. Astolfo’s current appearance is connected to how he dressed up as a girl during this episode.

O Sun, Abide to Death [Noble Phantasm]
Vasavi Shakti. The Anti-Divine Noble Phantasm of Lancer of Red, Karna. A god-killing spear given to him by the thunder god Indra in the “Mahabharata”. The secret weapons among secret weapons, which doesn’t exist even in the treasure vault of the King of Heroes. Just as shown in the illustrations within “Complete Material IV”, his spear transforms and officially becomes this Noble Phantasm after he sheds his golden armor.
It’s not like the spear he usually uses is a fake, but it can’t activate its name of “Vasavi Shakti: O Sun, Abide to Death” in this state.

Victor Frankenstein [Person's name]
The creator, or perhaps parent, of Berserker of Black, Frankenstein. In the light novel, he appears as a real historical person. He was a scientist and alchemist. Like Caster of Black, he aimed to create Adam and Eve. He differs from Caster in that he didn’t see the creation of Adam and Eve as the gateway to Eden, but rather simply wanted to create a being as close to God as possible.
Eve was born defective—at the very least, that was how Frankenstein saw her. An artificial life-form that does not have emotions was, to him, equivalent to a badly made living creature.
He doesn’t get it, he really doesn’t get it, this guy.

Wisdom of Divine Gift [Skill]
The Cheat of Cheats skill of our Professor Chiron. It bundles together the various skills and abilities that he received from the Greek Gods. It covers various skills, from artistic categories like music, to battle techniques like archery and spearmanship, and even to ranger skills such as outdoor pursuit and medicinal harvesting.
However, these skills are based on the techniques of Greece’s mythic era, and as such Chiron cannot acquire skills developed in another time and place. Unique skills limited to specific individual such as “Imperial Priviledge” and “Pioneer of the Stars” all fall outside the scope of “Wisdom of Divine Gift”.
Thanks to this skill, Chiron can also bestow generic skills to other Servants… but almost all Servants can be summoned precisely because they are complete as heroes, so there exist very few laudable Servants who would ask to be taught by him.
The only possible person who might be taught by him in this work is Sieg, but Chiron perceived that he could not bestow skills upon (teach) him unless he transforms into Siegfried in the first place, and he couldn’t teach him anything he could learn within a three-minute time limit.
Professor Chiron seemed a bit lonely after he realized that.

Yggdmillenia [Others]
Otherwise known as the “Tree of a Thousand Realms”. It is a clan of magi that originates from Northern Europe. The clan’s notable characteristic is that its Magic Crest is extremely diluted. Or, rather than diluted, it’s more like it hardly exists at all. Generally, a Crest is proof of a magus being the successor of their family and is passed down from generation to generation. There are also cases where the Crest is divided up, but it is fundamentally limited to close relatives.
However, just as its name implies, Yggdmillennia has thinly spread out its roots over a long time—in other words, the clan has lost most of the functions of its Crest and has chosen the method of increasing its members with families who are “Yggdmillennia” in name only. The important point is that the clan’s Crest is capable of being simply transplanted like a seal pasted onto an arm, even if the person is a complete stranger or they already have another Crest.
This Crest’s functions only allow for some slight sympathy between their spells and for determining whether or not someone is connected to “Yggdmillennia”. It is has lost any special characteristics it once had, but it is precisely this last remaining universal function that aid the abnormal increase in Yggdmillennia clan members.
Yggdmillennia swelled up in size by gathering up families who have been forced out of the world of magi, such as families whose Magic Circuits are gradually deteriorating away, families who have lost their Magic Crests in accidents or families who lost in political conflicts.
Of course, even if any of them attain Sorcery or reach the Root, it will never turn into praise for Yggdmillennia itself, but—just having their desire to “have their name remembered in history” investigated by others may be the proof of this diluted clan known as Yggdmillennia having existed.
In truth, quite a number of magi are included in Yggdmillennia under the table in the world of “Fate/Apocrypha”. Many of the magi who cause subspecies Holy Grail Wars are connected to Yggdmillennia. It goes without saying that it was for the sake of collecting data on the Holy Grail War.
The current leader is Darnic Prestone Yggdmillennia. The leader after the end of the novels is Caules Forvedge Yggdmillennia.

And, within this fortress, all of Semiramis' parameters are increased in rank.
On top of that, her fame level is also boosted to the highest class, and attacks are revised in her favor.

Heroes who posses legends that say "Poison had no effect" are granted a debuff bonus, on the other hand, if they have an episode where they died to poison, damage is doubled. Different types of poison can be selected as well.
In regards to the image, the poison's appearance manifests as chains.
