I wasn’t going to comment on this, but a few days ago, I saw a relatively respected YouTuber in my country’s *Fate* community making a power ranking of Nasuverse characters. One curious thing was that he placed Amaterasu above other gods/divine spirits, which doesn’t make much sense. His logic was that Amaterasu was on the same level as Sefar, which also doesn’t hold up, since Amaterasu is a divine spirit like any other. However, this idea is being spread as if it were true, both on the Wiki and on Reddit. Ironically, I thought about blaming the VSBattleWiki folks, as many power-scaling issues in various franchises come from there, but I was surprised to find out they aren’t spreading this lie this time. (Sometimes I feel like I’m too hard on them 😥)
Is Amaterasu special?
That’s the title of a thread I saw on Reddit about this topic. To answer directly: no, she’s not special, at least not compared to other divinities. *Fate/Extra* makes it clear that Amaterasu has stellar-level energy because she is the deification of the Sun itself. However, as we all know, she’s not the only solar deity in the Nasuverse. In *Fate/Grand Order*, for instance, we were introduced to several gods from the Aztec pantheon, who are also chief gods, just like Amaterasu. This is all pretty obvious and widely accepted, but I want to emphasize this point because of the next topic.
Sefar is far more powerful than Amaterasu
This is the argument people use to claim that Amaterasu is far superior to other divinities, saying that if she has the same raw power level as Sefar, she must be stronger than other gods. As I’ve already mentioned, solar gods have an existence on the scale of the Sun, but no one compares Quetzalcoatl or Tezcatlipoca to Sefar. Why? Because everyone knows they’d be easily defeated, just like Amaterasu was. We know Sefar has a *hax* that is effective against beings tied to the world, but since Amaterasu is linked to the Sun, this *hax* should theoretically be useless against her. Even so, she was utterly crushed, just like all the other solar gods and chief gods that Sefar faced.
This confusion comes from the “Crest of the Wandering Star,” which states that Sefar has 300 million in power, seemingly inferior to Amaterasu’s power. However, this isn’t entirely true. The ability causes Sefar’s parameters to increase by one digit with each stage of evolution. For example: in the first stage, it’s 300; in the second, 3,000; in the third, 30,000; up to the seventh stage, with 300 million. The issue is that people forget or ignore that the ability’s description only uses one of Sefar’s parameters as an example. The ability makes it clear that **all** parameters are enhanced. So, the levels would look something like this:
-Sefar (Full Power): ??? [Unknown, but superior to Amaterasu]
- Amaterasu (Full Power): 387,420,489
- Sefar (Strength Parameter): 300,000,000
